MAX

I wasn't planning on sneaking off and running away.

I actually had to use the toilet.

Though the more I thought about it, the stronger the urge to find my way back to the family home got.

But would it even make any sense? If letting Marcus follow us down to Rebecca's hideout was a stupid move, then finding a way back home to my mother despite the thousand and one warnings to the opposite, was an even more stupid decision.

Honestly, I'd had just about enough of those tonight.

But if I want to focus, you can't keep texting me every second.][Me: Fine. I won't text]I waited. One second. Two. [Tiffany: Don't do that]I brought a napkin to my mouth, barely shielding the chuckle that made its way out.I'd been so deep into our little texting frenzy, I'd completely forgotten where I was.Well, actually. No. I knew exactly where I was, I just didn't care enough to keep the act up for much longer. Unsurprisingly, that behaviour was much to Bertrand's distaste.“We got here thirty minutes ago and you've been on your phone throughout. Do you plan on charming your way into the family like this?” He whispered beside me. “They can wait” I almost waved him off. “Not my priority right now.”“Hmm. Is that so?”Just before my thumb hit another key, he dragged my phone out of my hands and stashed it into his pants. “Hey. I was in t

If letting Marcus follow us down to Rebecca's hideout was a stupid move, then finding a way back home to my mother despite the thousand and one warnings to the opposite, was an even more stupid decision. Honestly, I'd had just about enough of those tonight.I walked further down the hallway, passed the familiar paintings and priceless vases, then made my easy to the visitor's restroom a slingshot away.Eight seconds. It didn't take long to get done with my business, yet I was in the toilet for nearly ten minutes. Cry? Curse? Shout? It didn't matter what I wanted to do. I could barely even do it. I just felt… numb. Stupid and numb. If anything happened to Rebecca because of me. Because of that bastard that doesn't even remember my name……I wasn't sure wha

  • Roommates With My Best Friend's Boyfriend    Spend The Night With Me

BIANCAThe resemblance was uncanny.I hadn’t noticed it back at the Lang Dinner — I’d been too creeped out to pay close attention. But now, sitting in the car with the memory still fresh, I couldn’t unsee it.Those dark, piercing eyes clouded with exhaustion. The hulking frame wrapped in a heavy leather coat. The sharp scar just above his brow and those tightly pursed lips that seemed to cage a deep, resonant voice.Marcus looked exactly like Max.I glanced sideways at Max in the passenger seat. Twenty minutes had passed since we left Rebecca’s, and he still hadn’t said a word. The silence in the car was suffocating… broken only by the low hum of the engine and the rush of cool midnight wind through the cracked windows.Vanessa kept glancing at us in the rearview mirror, her expression a mix of worry and hesitation. Her knuckles were white on the steering wheel.“She’s going to be fine,” I finally said, trying to cut through the heavy tension. “Rebecca sounded like someone who knew e

  • Roommates With My Best Friend's Boyfriend    Where Is My Son

REBECCA I couldn't breathe. The air around me suddenly felt thick enough to choke. How did he find me?How did he get here? Why were my hands shaking so violently? He noticed the last after a simple glance, then raised his head to meet my eyes once more and said with the straightest of faces. “It seems so little has changed since we last met, Lalka.”That name. After all these years, that damned name still managed to haunt me as deeply as the first victim he'd used it on.“Marcus” I said, voice breaking. “You’re—”“I'd like to talk to you. Alone” he said. He didn't look around, but I was sure he was referring to the trio still completely stunned by his presence. I didn't have to think too much about it before makinf a decision. “Guys, I think you should leave.”“Rebecca—”“Leave” I countered before Max could chirp audibly enough for Marcus to notice and pinpoint the familiar tone. Luckily, Bianca followed my instructions faster than anyone else. “Let's go. We'll come back lat

  • Roommates With My Best Friend's Boyfriend    I Never Invited Brian

REBECCA“Did something happen between you three?” I asked.Neither of them answered, but I definitely sure something had transpired between the group.Vanessa sat so far away from Max, you would've thought he had some sort of life-threatening disease. Weird, especially aftrerr they seemed virtually inseperable the last time I saw them. Bianca was the exact opposite. Her presence seemed to be only thing standing between Max and a violent explosion. This was my first time meeting each other, and honestly, I could see why both brothers were so hung up on her. She was incredibly beautiful, and had those kind of tender eyes that could melt you in seconds. And then, there was Max. He looked like shit.I set out three small shot glasses and poured a generous amount of tequila in each before serving them up. “Sorry I'm late. Had a couple things to attend to on the way here.”“That's fine—”“Can we get to the point, Rebecca?” Max cut in.The desperation in his eyes barely outweighed the fa

  • Roommates With My Best Friend's Boyfriend    Marcus's Protégé

REBECCAI thought he was dead. With everything else on my plate, keeping tabs on the Lang family was the only way I stayed one step ahead. I’d heard about their little “family picnic.” Cute. I wasn’t fooled for a second. Those annual events were never innocent… just another chance to flaunt power or rope in fresh meat for the machine. But Marcus? That was the last thing I expected. The thought of him sent ice crawling down my spine. I shifted in my seat, staring out the train window at nothing, pretending the darkness outside held my attention. It didn’t help. The weight in my chest refused to ease. That man terrified me. Worst part? As fucked as my life had become, Marcus Callaghan was the closest thing I’d ever had to a father figure. He was the reason I even knew Brian… back when Liam and I still trained together under his watch. I could still hear Marcus’s snide jokes and dry remarks cutting through the tension whenever Liam and I sparred.Weird to admit, but if I was Prince Zuko
