“What the fuck. What the fuck! What the actual fuck!” I keep repeating like a mantra. I don’t know whether I should be more confused at what I just saw or at the fact that the werewolf who just killed two other men is staring right behind me and for some reason I’m not afraid of him hurting me. Hell, I'm more afraid of the fact that he’s not looking at me. I feel someone’s breath on my neck and I already know that I’m about to die but just before I start to pray to God and embrace death, a knife flies swiftly past my ear and right into whoever the hell was behind me. I feel a warm liquid drip down my shoulder and I slowly look back and see another man in black. His eye ball was struck With the knife and it’s bleeding profusely. The man starts to scream and I immediately look back at the direction that the knife came from. There’s a lady in black but different from the men and her face is open unlike the men whose faces were conveyed in masks. She’s breathing heavily and starts saying something but I can’t hear her because my minds a jumbled mess. She’s sitting by the window, she probably had to climb up a tree or ladder to get there but I have a feeling it’s the former. I look back at the werewolf and see him look at the lady by the window. He starts to shake again and his hairs start to shrink back. I blink again and my fathers staring at me butt naked. I don’t know whether it’s my dead mother on the floor or my dads penis dangling in front of me that brings me back to life but it’s enough to make me understand what the lady by the window is saying. “We have to go now!” She yells before her eyes land on my dad and his dangling penis. He quickly grabs clothes from the closet and puts them on. “Peter?” The lady by the window says. How does she know my dad? “Melissa?” He asks after putting on his shirt. I ignore them and whatever they say to each other and run to my dead mother. I don’t even realize that I’ve been crying this whole time till I bring her limp hands to my cheek. Dad walks towards me from behind and tries to touch me but I flinch so he sighs. “I’m so sorry that you had to find out about me like this but we seriously need to go.” He says as calmly as he can but I can still hear how shaky his voice is. He loved his wife as much as I loved her. “The police are on their way, why should we follow that other woman? If she really wants to help she should wait with us.” I say even though I’m grateful that she saved my life. I start to hear the police sirens and stand. “The police will ask too many questions… questions we cannot answer. If you're worried about who you can trust then that answer is easy, you can always trust me. You know me.” “Do I? You just became the same beast from twilight and I’m supposed to trust you!?” I snort. “You will come with me now Christina or so help me God-” The lady my dad called Melissa says. My dad places a hand up to let her know that it’s enough. “It’s not safe for us to stay here anymore.. what we’re up against…they're not humans..uh…they’re a lot worse. I can’t protect you if we stay here and anyone else that knows you will be in danger if they find out they are connected to you in some way so it’s better to let them go and leave.” He says. I sigh and reluctantly leave. I don’t really understand what the hell is going on but I do know that Whatever the hell is going on is more than a robbery or an assasinatoon because who the hell does such a thing in broad daylight. In the morning for that matter. We run as fast as we can downstairs till we make it outside. “The cars at the back of the house.” She says and leads the way. I have so much on my mind that when we reach the car I don’t even look at it enough to know what type of car it is. I just get in and wonder how confused Elsa will be when she doesn’t find me there. I look up and see another lady in the driver's seat. “Took you long enough.” She says to Melissa. “Oh please.” Melissa responds. “Dad.. we’re going to come back right?” I ask sheepishly. “No my love. We’re never coming back.” He sighs. “Long time no see Peter. Or should I say beta Peter?” The lady in the driver's seat says and smirks. “I’m rogue now, please don’t.” Dad says and looks behind us as if he’s expecting someone to be following us. I look at the lady again and we take off. She notices me staring through the rear view mirror and winks at me like something’s funny. What the hell is a beta and what does he mean by he's a rogue now. “My mother is dead.” I say to let her know that there’s nothing to joke about. “Don’t worry she’s not your real mother.” The lady says. “Becca!” Dad yells and Melissa laughs. I decided to ignore her statement. My brain is presently overloaded with too many questions. “And who are you two?” I ask, raising a brow. “We’re your sisters.” Melissa says whilst staring at the side mirror. “Well.. half sisters actually.” Becca says and winks at me again. She’s annoying but what she says has my eyes widening. I’m an only child… there’s just no way that’s possible. I’m about to say something but I don’t get the chance to because our car gets hit from behind. I turn around and see a bunch of cars following us. “Well shit.” Melissa says. “It’s going to be fine Christina.” Dad says and holds my hand. “Who are those people and why do they want to kill you? And why’d they kill mom!” I yell whilst Becca increases the speed of the car. “You got it all wrong Christina.” Becca says. “They're trying to kill you. Not peter.” Melissa says before bringing out a gun and rolling down her window. She leans her head out of the window and starts to shoot. I act like this isn’t the first time seeing a gun. “Why the hell would they want to kill me! I’m literally just a highschool student!” I all but scream. “It’s kinda a long story.” Becca says. “A story for another day!” Dad yells just as another car hits us from the back again. Melissa shoots the car's tires and they slow down behind us. The cars behind us are now down to four, wonderful. We enter the main road and Becca increases the speed of the car. The cars behind us seem to be getting closer and I hold my breath till another car hits us. “We’re going to die!” I all but scream whilst squeezing my eyes shut. “Just hold on!” Becca shouts. I open my eyes and see her make a sharp turn but my soul is about to leave my body because there’s a truck right in front of us. It starts to blow its horn when it notices we’re entering its lane to make the turn, instead of waiting for it to pass first. I don’t know how but we managed to make the turn before the truck crashes into us but unfortunately the four other cars connect with the truck but a few of them managed to escape the crash but since the truck is very long it restricts the other cars movements meaning they can no longer see us. “We did it!” Melissa yells and claps. “Where the hell are we going?” I ask. “You’ll see.” Becca says.CHAPTER NINETY-FIVE - EPILOGUE 2CHRISTINAI had always wanted a night wedding.Something about the idea of saying the most important words of my life under a sky full of stars felt right in a way I couldn't fully explain. So the whole morning was given over to getting ready, and the room was full of women, laughing and talking over each other, passing things back and forth, someone always doing something to someone else's hair.I hadn't seen Marcel since the night before, that was the rule we'd agreed on, no contact until I walked down the aisle, and I had underestimated how strange it would feel to wake up without him in the same building. One of the younger omegas was suggesting we make a run for it, disappear somewhere in the pack grounds and make Marcel come searching, and the whole room was laughing at this when the door burst open.A girl stood in the frame, chest heaving with eyes wide."You have to come see this," she said. "Right now, everyone"Nobody asked questions, we we
CHAPTER NINETY-FOUR — EPILOGUECHRISTINA⋆。°✩ ⋆⁺。˚⋆ five months later ⋆˚⁺⋆。°✩⋆After Pierce died, everything became smooth. That's the only way I know how to say it, it was not perfect, and not without grief, but smooth, just like the way a road becomes after the worst of the storm had passed and you can finally see where you're going again.Becca and Melissa took their mother's death hard at first, that was expected and it was right. Whatever Pierce had done, she was still their mother and they were allowed to mourn her. Marcel gave them the space to do that without judgment and slowly, over weeks that turned into months, they came around. They started showing up for dinners, started talking without the guardedness that grief puts around people, It helped that they'd been also given time to grieve their father too.We couldn't make it to Davina's son's naming ceremony and she understood without needing much explanation. Those early months were hectic in ways that were hard to des
CHAPTER NINETY-THREECHRISTINAI felt her move through me, this huge deep power coursing from the inside out. I felt Patricia before I even saw her.My name, called out in a voice I hadn't heard since Maxwell took me, warm and bright and familiar in the way only she had ever been.I turned.Patricia was standing a few feet away, and she was glowing, not the soft shimmer I remembered but something stronger, her white hair lit from within like moonlight concentrated into a single point. She looked more real than anything around me, more solid, more present.I couldn't speak for a second. She crossed to me and wrapped her arms around me and I held on."You're back," I said."I never left," she said simply. "I've been with you the whole time, you just couldn't reach me."I pulled back and looked at her face."I tried so many times," I said."I know." She smiled. "But you're ready now, that's the difference."“Am I?” I asked and she nodded.“You're ready Christina” she said softly but I
CHAPTER NINETY-TWOCHRISTINA"Dad."He didn't respond."Dad, please."I pressed my hands against the sides of his face, tilting it toward me, his eyes were half open and unfocused, there was so much blood, too much, spreading fast beneath his head across the floor."Someone help me!" I screamed. "Please, someone help!"And then he coughed.A wet, broken sound that sent relief crashing through me so hard I started crying before I could stop it."Okay," I said, my voice shaking badly. "Okay, you're okay, I'm going to get the doctor, just stay right there…."His hand found my wrist.Weak and barely any grip at all but it was enough to stop me."Don't," he said."Dad….""Christina." His voice was barely there. Just breath carrying sound. "Just stay." He said "You need help, you're bleeding, I have to….""Stay," he said again.I couldn't move, I couldn't leave him and I couldn't stop crying, I pressed his hand between both of mine and held on.He looked at me, the way he had when I firs
CHAPTER NINETY-ONECHRISTINAMy father stood up from his chair slowly and walked to the window. He stood there with his back to me, his hands loose at his sides, looking out at whatever was beyond the glass. "We had to leave again," he said. "After the massacre we went into hiding, found a remote part of the pack and stayed" He was quiet for a moment. "A few days passed, we thought maybe the worst of it was over.” He paused again."And then Damien called for Titiana again."I stayed very still. My father turned his head slightly but didn't fully turn around."I made mistakes," he said. "Ones I've had a long time to think about, I should have reported what Damien did to the hall of gods immediately, I should have sent that letter to Titiana after Veronica died, I should have done a hundred things differently." He exhaled slowly. "But I was unfocused and scattered, I kept thinking there was more time than there was."He stopped again."Dad," I said softly. "What happened to her?"H
CHAPTER NINETYCHRISTINA"If you knew you were spelled," I said carefully, "why didn't you do something about it?"My father was quiet for a moment, looking down at his hands."Two reasons," he said finally. "The first is that the spell, whatever it was, made it nearly impossible to act against it, the awareness of it would come and go, when I was with Titiana I could feel it clearly, like suddenly being able to see the walls of a room you'd been locked in but the moment I was away from her it would close back over me and I'd lose the thread of it." He shook his head slowly. "You can't fight something you can only see half the time.""And the second reason?"He exhaled. "Pierce was pregnant, my child was coming into the world and I couldn't walk away from that, whatever else was happening, whatever had been done to me, there was a baby who hadn't asked for any of it." He looked at me steadily. "I couldn't disappear on my own child.""So we kept seeing each other," he continued. "I
CHAPTER EIGHTY-SIXCHRISTINAThe shower shut off, and a few moments later Marcel stepped out, towel low on his hips, water still sliding down the hard ridges of his chest. His hair was wet, dark strands sticking to his forehead, he stopped dead when he saw me.I was sitting right on the edge of th
