AYLIN'S POV

"My feet were still throbbing when the knock came."

I stared at the heavy wooden panels of the door, dreading the thought of getting up.

I dragged myself off the bed, half expecting the person at the door to be Kaelen.

I pulled the door open without thinking.

The words died in my throat the moment the wood swung inward. The warmth I had associated with Kaelen's wits vanished, replaced instantly by a suffocating spike of dread.

It wasn't Kaelen.

Instead, a shadow fell across the thr

AYLIN'S POV The walls felt like they were closing in around me, the surfaces drawing inward with every breath I forced into my throat. Air scraped against my windpipe refusing to settle the burning ache deep within my chest. I slammed the heel of my palm hard against my chest, pressing down as though physical force might manually jump-start my lungs. He's lying. He has to be lying. He just has to.....The denial tasted desperate, sour on the back of my tongue, but a deeper part of my consciousness refused to let the thought rest in peace. Is he, though? How long will you live in denial? The voice came all of a sudden.I dropped heavily onto the edge of the mattress, my fingers clawing into the woven fabric of the sheets until my knuckles turned stark white. Roderick's parting words played in an endless, agonizing loop inside my mind, each repetition sharper and more venomous than the last. Humans and werewolves have always been enemies. You forgot why you were truly here. You forg

He wore that same infuriating smile fixed firmly on his face. "Hello." I finally replied I forced my spine to straighten, digging my fingernails into my palms as I fought to keep my voice steady. I tried to sound polite, projecting an artificial calm instead of revealing how entirely caught off guard I

  • Bound To The Lycan King    CHAPTER 60: The Games Are About to Begin

LUCIEN'S POV The knock came sharp against my study door, and I already knew who stood on the other side before I gave the order to enter.Only one person in this palace announced himself with that particular arrogance."Come in."The door opened, and there he was. Golden hair. That same insufferable smile he'd worn since childhood, like the world owed him an audience."Cousin." Roderick spread his arms as he stepped inside. "It's been a while. How are you faring? And the kingdom, is it faring well under your rule?"I gave him a long look before answering. "The kingdom is doing fine. How are you, cousin?""Doing absolutely well." He dropped into the chair across from my desk without waiting to be offered it. "Well let's cross straight to the chase. You know far too well what I'm here for. I've come to help prepare for the ball. Consider me your trusted guide, should you need anything.""How thoughtful of you." I deadpanned. He either missed the edge in my voice or chose to ignore it.

The man stepped into the ballroom like he owned it.Golden hair, combed back without a strand out of place. Tall, broad-shouldered, moving with the kind of ease that only came from never once doubting a room would make space for him. Everything about him said royalty, from the tilt of his chin to the way his boots barely made a sound against the marble.Kaelen's hand tightened around mine."Why is he here this early," Kaelen muttered, not really asking me."You know him?" I asked."Sadly." Seraphine's voice had gone flat. "Yes. We do.""Who is he?"She exhaled through her nose. "My cousin."The man reached us before I could ask anything else, spreading his arms like he was greeting old friends at a homecoming. "Hello, dear cousin.""Roderick." Seraphine didn't smile.Roderick turned next to Kaelen, and something in his expression sharpened, polite on the surface and razor-edged underneath. "The royal Gamma of Lupercal. How are you doing?""Doing well." Kaelen's jaw was tight. "I hope

Nothing could have prepared me for the ballroom.I stood frozen in the doorway, and for a moment I forgot how to breathe. It was the most beautiful thing I had ever laid my eyes on.The ceiling arched high above us, painted with constellations that seemed to shift when I wasn't looking directly at them. Silver pillars lined the walls, wrapped in ivy that glittered like it had been dipped in frost. And the chandeliers....three of them, massive, hanging like fallen moons....were made of crystal so pale and luminous it looked like they'd been carved from moonlight itself."Beautiful, isn't it?" Seraphine came up beside me, her voice soft with something like nostalgia. "Just as beautiful as the last time I was here.""How could anyone get used to this?" I asked in astonishment. "You'd be surprised." She smiled, but there was a shadow behind it, gone before I could ask."Come on. Sad thoughts don't belong in a room this bright."Kaelen was already sprawled against one of the pillars, look

The door burst open before I could reach it.Kaelen stood in the frame, hand still raised mid-knock, grinning like he'd won something. "Hello, ladies."I stared at him. "Kaelen? What are you doing here?""Am I not allowed to visit?" He stepped inside, glancing between us. "I heard there's a ball to prepare for."“ You should have at least waited for me to answer the door” I said glaring at him" And Yes, and I'm handling that," Seraphine said, arms crossing. "What are you doing here? Aren't you supposed to be making preparations too?""I am making preparations." He dropped into the chair by my desk like he owned it. "This counts."I looked from him to Seraphine, then back again. "What is going on?"Seraphine opened her mouth to explain, but Kaelen got there first, squinting at her face. "Wait. What is that on your face?""What?""Why are you wearing glasses? Since when do you wear something humans wear?""How is that any of your business?" Seraphine shot back."Kaelen, leave her be."
