Mag-log inMaya's POV:
“This can't be real.” I said, pinching the skin on my forearm, hard enough to leave a red mark, desperate for the sharp sting to pull me out of this dream. Pain bloomed instantly, which told me that this wasn’t a nightmare. Declan had truly gone this far, crossing every line, and stooping to kidnapping just to bend me to his will. Realizing this, my knees buckled and I grabbed the doorframe to keep from collapsing, fingers digging into the wood until my knuckles turned white. “Declan, please ” I begged, voice cracking as tears burned behind my eyes. “If anything happens to Ethan, it will destroy my mother. Her heart is already so weak. You know that. You’ve seen how fragile she is since the cancer came back.” “Her weak heart is exactly why you should say yes, Maya. She’s probably already breaking down from the news that Ethan went missing. If something happens to him, she’ll die. And if your parents’ bond is as strong as you always claimed, then your father might follow right after her or lose his mind completely.” Silence swallowed me and tears slipped down my cheeks, as I stood there with nothing to say. My mind spun in useless circles, searching for words that wouldn’t come. Finally, Declan spoke again. “Think of a solution before the end of the day and get back to me.” Then the line went dead while I stayed rooted in place for several minutes, phone limp in my hand, confusion and fear twisting together until I could barely breathe. After everything my parents had learned about the last five years, they made me promise never to shoulder burdens alone again, and never to keep them in the dark but telling them about this was impossible. They would rush to report Declan to the Elders, convinced justice would prevail but I knew those Elders too well from my time as Luna. They were selfish, so they would focus only on avoiding war and protecting their own power. They would insist I comply, pushing me straight into the very thing Declan demanded. If the Elders failed them, my parents would turn to the people, gathering support from those who once cheered for me as their Luna. The pack might rally behind them at first, but when the Alpha and council had already decided, no one would dare challenge Declan openly. In the end, I would still be forced into the same corner. And Declan was clever enough, manipulative enough, to spin the story later, to win the people back with smooth words so matter which path I took, the result looked the same. Without hesitation, I called him back with shaking fingers. He answered on the second ring, surprise coloring his voice. “I wasn’t expecting you to call back so soon.” I ignored the jab, swallowing the anger that rose like bile. “Send Ethan home, andI’ll do what you want.” I said, voice trembling but determined. “ Declan chuckled. “I’m not a fool, Maya. If I send him back now, you’ll find some way to slip yourself and your family out of my reach.” “I’m smart enough to know that I can’t leave this pack without you getting alerted.” I replied, forcing steadiness into my words. “I’m willing to marry him. But you have to send Ethan back to school or home first, so my plan looks believable.” “I'm listening.” He said, and I explained. “If Ethan is returned safely, in two or three days I’ll tell my parents that I’m leaving the pack for a while to start fresh somewhere new. Instead, I’ll go to the Night Reaper’s territory. Hopefully I can stay safe enough to keep in touch with them until I’m ready to tell them the truth.” He was quiet for a moment. “Fine. I’m in on the plan. But I’m sending Ethan back to boarding school. It’s easier for me to reach him again if you try anything.” “Agreed.” I nodded. “I also want to talk to Ethan.” I added. “He needs to know not to tell our parents he was kidnapped because our mother just got out of the hospital and her heart can’t take the stress.” “Done.” Declan ended the call, then sent a number which I dialed immediately and Ethan’s voice came through, small and scared. “Maya?” “It’s May.” I began, holding back my tears. “I’ve handled the ransom so you will be sent back to school. But please, don’t tell Mom and Dad you were kidnapped. Mom’s heart is still weak after everything. Just say you went somewhere but everything’s fine now.” He hesitated, then whispered in a shaky voice. “Do you trust that they will let me go? If they do then I won't say anything.” “Nothing will happen to you.” I promised, throat tight. “I swear it.” I ended the call before my voice could break completely. I returned to the living room, forcing a calm expression. “I think I’ll wait a little before heading to the school.” I told my parents, keeping my tone light. “Let’s see if the situation resolves itself first.” Barely two hours later, the phone rang again and the principal’s relieved voice filled the line. “Ethan’s back. He admitted he sneaked out to meet some friends. The school has already scolded him, and he’ll face punishment, but he’s safe.” My parents scolded him over the speaker, relief mixing with stern lectures about responsibility. To me, the punishment sounded like mercy compared to what Declan could have done. With that crisis behind us, I spent the next two days dropping subtle hints about wanting to move on, talking about new prospects, starting fresh, leaving behind everything that reminded me of my old life. My parents were incredibly supportive, nodding along and offering quiet encouragement. On the third day, I sat them down and told them plainly. “I’ve decided to leave Bloodhound for a while. I need space to start over somewhere new then I’ll hire a caretaker to help with Mom while I’m gone. Just a few weeks away from all the memories of Declan.” They were surprised by how sudden it seemed, but they didn’t fight me and although part of me ached to take them all with me, I had no idea what the Night Reaper was truly like. So as long as I married him, Declan wouldn’t touch my family. On the third day, I packed my bags carefully, and drove to the Packhouse. Declan met me in the foyer, and the first words out of his mouth were cold and clear. “As long as you keep your end of the bargain, your family will be taken care of. But if you try to escape the Night Reaper and he declares war because of it, I will make sure your entire family dies alongside mine.”Maya's POVDinner went great.Everyone enjoyed and ate to their fill as we talked and caught up with my family. At first, I thought that Cassian wasn't going to join us, but when I asked him if he was going to, he didn't hesitate to say yes.Laughter, stories, jokes and even a little banter here and there, and all of us were having a blast. You'd think that Cassian was just anyone, with the way that he was engaging with my parents, and Ethan as well.During the dinner, Ethan didn't hesitate to ask Cassian what it would take for him to join one of his troops.Mum was obviously not happy about it, and Cassian was quick to pick up the idea. However, he found a compromise for both.He offered to have one of the head warriors train Ethan, so that he could be able to handle himself if he were to find himself in a life-threatening situation.I guess he remembered that Ethan was already kidnapped once, and needed to ensure that if anything as close to that would try to happen, my brother woul
Mr Voss’ POVThe maid made a few calls and finally told us that she knew where the Alpha was.“Will we have to wait so that we can talk to him?" I asked as she was taking us to where he was.“For most people, yes, but not for you.The Voss family will get the highest priority in anything that you ask for, and that includes even seeing Alpha Cassian himself," she answered almost immediately. With Declan, it would have been a matter of whether he was in the mood to see us or not.But hearing that talking to Cassian was going to be that easy, just have me more reason to believe how much he cared about Maya that he prioritized us.I still wasn't convinced that marrying him was the right decision for Maya. Not after everything that she had gone through.“What are we going to talk to him about?" Ethan asked in a hushed whisper as we walked."Your sister. I still don't think that he's the right man for her. Especially not with everything that she has been going through lately," I answered hi
Mr Voss’ POV“Should we stay here or take the offer for the bungalow that's still close to the pack house?" My wife asked, as she was undressing to go and take a shower. We had been shown our rooms, and Ethan had his room right next to us, while Maya was somewhere off in the compound. She walked like she owned the place, and I could tell that those few months that she had been in Moonclaw without our knowledge, a lot had changed. She wasn't the same girl that walked out of the marriage from Declan.“Honey?" My wife called to me, as she was wrapping her towel around her waist.“Are you okay? You seem deep in thought," she added.“I think we should take the house. I don't think it makes sense for us to live under the same roof as our daughter, and soon to be husband," I finally answered her. However, I could tell that the answer wasn't enough for her, making me think hard and deep to see whether I might have said anything out of line. There was nothing."How are you feeling about all of
Maya's POV“Is that why you didn't come back with Jasper?" I asked him, waiting to see if that was the reason, or if there was more trouble brewing for Declan.“You're quick, I like that. And yes, that's exactly why he didn't come back with me.He'll probably be back after a day or so, and by the time he comes back, either some of the packs will already have made their decision, while the others will be contemplating either annihilation or surrender," he answered. With everything that Cassian did for me, he was just proving to me time and time again that not a single soul on the planet would ever dare cross me and not feel his wrath.“You should have been around when I was getting bullied in preschool,” I said with a chuckle. And for a brief second, his face hardened and he became serious."It doesn't matter how long it has been, I'll hunt down your bullies till I find them,” he declared and I felt a chill run down my spine. For a fact, I had absolutely no reason to doubt that he was
Maya's POVCassian's warm and solid hands crept up my back, pulling me tighter and holding me like the world was threatening to take me away.He held me close, his breath blowing down on my back, and his presence instantly calming me down. From someone who never loved me, to someone that was willing to move mountains for me, I couldn't believe how lucky I had been.I prayed to the Moon Goddess, complaining and ranting about how she was taking me from one nightmare and throwing me into another.Little did I know that she was literally placing me in the best position that I could have ever dreamt about.Whenever I was with Cassian, my nervous system was the calmest it had been in ages, and that's how I knew that spending the rest of my life with him was going to be the best decision that I was going to make.“I didn't expect you to leave their side so quickly," he said as I was finally pulling away from the hug.My face literally turned red as I said, “I had to let them get settled and
Maya's POVI had to tell them everything. This wasn't like when I was questioning whether I should have told them through the phone, and spent the next few days worried about what they would have been thinking about. This was different.I had them right there with me.I didn't have to worry about them anymore.“Oh my Goddess!" My mom said in horror as she was seated and literally almost fell off her chair from shock.“My dear Maya," my dad added, as he held mum and tried not to cry himself.Ethan was silent, as all three of them were processing what I just told them. For months, I carried the burden of being mated to a man that every single wolf in existence was terrified of.And that was just after coming from a marriage where my ex husband cheated on me, and took back his longtime crush. So yeah, I was nowhere in the right headspace for the first few weeks, especially when Cassian had told me that it wasn't our first time meeting, and wouldn't tell me where I had met him before.“Wh
Declan's POVPacing up and down my room, I couldn't help but think about the news that had been brought back by some of my scouts."What's wrong dear?" Samantha asked, bringing my mind back to reality, and realizing that she was still in the room with me."What are you still doing here? I thought y

Maya's POVI believe that two days had passed without me seeing Cassian around. From the night that I couldn't sleep, when Mirabelle told me that the Alpha had summoned a special troop of his warriors whose sole purpose was permanent annihilation of whatever and whoever they went after, I couldn't
