LOGIN“It’s either that or you are kicked out.” With that, she stood up and practically danced her way out of the room in excitement.
“It’s going to be okay.” Philip reassured me as I sniffled, trying to stop the tears from streaming down my face. “No it’s not. Why would he force a marriage on me?” I asked. “Maybe you should go and see him.” He answered. “Who?” “August Wolfe.” I was about to protest when he cut me off. “He might be able to give the answers you are looking for.” He replied. I did have a lot of questions. My dad wasn’t here and the only person who would be able to answer was the other person who signed the contract — August Wolfe. “Okay. I will.” I mumbled through the tears. He laughed, wiping the tears from my face and giving me a quick hug. “Whatever happens, just know that I am the only one who is going to be here, and I will always support you in whatever you decide.” Phillip smiled reassuringly, making me smile instinctively. The churning in my stomach had reduced thanks to Philip’s reassurance. I no longer felt as nervous as I was. “Okay, I have to go to work. You’ll be okay, right?” He asked, getting up. “I’ll try to be.” Maybe I actually needed to see him. No one in my house seemed to be honest, and I desperately needed answers from someone. Especially someone who knew my father. My Father. I barely thought about him as much as I should’ve. The years we spent together were the best years of my life. It was like…having someone you knew you could always fall back on. Someone who was always there to support and protect you. He did not have any relatives and I was an only child. *FLASHBACK* “Dad.” I sobbed, clutching my injured knee. “Drewdrop! What happened?” He exclaimed, running towards me and looking at me. His brown eyes that resembled mine held so much worry as he gazed down at my bloody knee caused by those kids. I was a pretty quiet child. Quiet children were always a bully’s perfect target. “I fell.” I lied, avoiding eye contact. If I had told my dad, I would just be bullied harder. I remembered thinking that. His eyes studied my face for a minute before he sighed, sitting on the grass like I was. His knee was propped up to his shoulders as he looked around before finally settling his eyes on my small 6-year-old figure. “Drew.” He called out. I looked up at him to see his eyes staring directly at mine. “You fell?” He asked slowly without breaking eye contact. He always knew how to get the truth out of me. If I avoided eye contact, he knew it was a lie. Without having a choice, I shook my head no and broke eye contact. He sighed, pulling me close with his arm. “What did I tell you about lies?” He asked. “Lies break trust and make people feel sad” I repeated the same words he preached for years. He nodded, standing up and picking me up with him. He sat me down on one of the park’s benches. “I’ll be right back, okay drew?” He stated, bending down to my level to examine my face. I nodded, and watched him walk into the pharmacy situated in front of the park. He came out with a bag in his hand and sat on the same bench with me. He slowly took my injured knee and placed it on his lap, pulling out a cream and cotton buds from the bag. He applied ointment on the bud, and slowly applied it on my wound. “Daddy!” I hissed, the pain becoming increasingly worse. He chuckled, smiling down at me. “Sorry, I’ll be gentle.” he laughed. After that, he took out a hello kitty bandage and placed it over the wound. “All done.” He smiled. “It’s pretty.” I grinned as he kissed my forehead. There was a comfortable silence around us until he spoke up. “Who pushed you?” I looked down at my hands, debating on telling him or not. Lies were not good. I told myself. “Bianca and her friends.” I told him truthfully. “I thought Bianca was your friend” He asked curiously. “She said we were not friends anymore.” That was partly true. But not the whole truth. She said she could not be friends with girls who did not have mothers. I couldn’t tell dad that because mom was a sensitive topic for him. “Okay Drewdrop. Let’s go home.” He sighed, getting up. He bent down and looked back at me with a smile. “Piggyback ride?” He asked, and I squealed with excitement. I later found out that he confronted Bianca’s parents and got them punished for what they did to me. Bianca and her friends never bullied me again. *END OF FLASHBACK• Drewdrop. I missed hearing that name so much. When he died, I wasn’t able to comprehend the situation. I always looked at it as him taking a short trip. He would come back. I reassured my twelve-year-old self every night. But he didn’t. I was left alone in this world. He was a very private person. No friends either. So to find out that he signed a contract giving me away to someone, there had to be a connection between them. Lying down in my bed with a sigh, I couldn’t help but think over the entire situation. Was this actually happening? I was to be married to a billionaire. What was his name again? I sat up, picking my phone up to G****e him. August Wolfe. I wanted to see the guy I was supposed to wed. No pictures of him came up but the company and its achievements were displayed all over my screen. Wolfe systems. Established in 2015. Founded by August Wolfe, son of Ethan Wolfe of Wolfe holdings, a real estate and investment company. Started as a small accounting firm but grew into cybersecurity and data systems for banks. Wow. They were actually billionaires. He seemed to be a private person as I could only find images of his father. What kind of man hides his face from the world…but binds himself to a stranger for life? Was this a lifeline or a death sentence?DREA“28 isn’t old.” He defended.“Yes sir.” I mocked and he glared at me playfully. “Where’s your phone?” I asked. He dug his hand into his pocket and pulled it out.He handed me the phone and I opened it.“Wow. No wallpaper? You really do not have a personality.” I stated, staring at the black wallpaper.Who has just a black wallpaper?I entered the App Store and downloaded TikTok.“What are you doing?” He asked and I shushed him.“I’m going to be sending you funny videos to watch over here. You must watch them and tell me if you find them funny or not okay?” I explained, creating a TikTok account for him and following myself.“Okay.” No objections? Okay.“What else?” I said, thinking to myself.“What about books?”“Nah. I hate novels.” I gasped, my eyes widening. “But I’ve read one.”“Only one?” I asked and he nodded.“What’s the title?”“Deep in the valley.” I was definitely going to check that out.“If you hate novels so much, then why do you have such a big ass library in your h
DREAI screamed, clutching the sheets tighter to my body just as my bedside lamp was flicked on.“It’s me.” I froze when I heard his voice.I breathed out, trying to calm my racing heart.“What are you doing here?!!!” I whisper-yelled, moving to the other side of my bed and turning on the other lamp.“I—”“And why were you standing in the shadows like a creep?!” August sighed, running a hand through his hair.“I check every corner of this house before going to bed. I was passing by your wing when I heard something shatter on the floor. I knocked a couple of times but you didn’t answer so I just—”“So you just walk in here?!” I hissed.“I thought someone was in here!” He yelled. My voice went quiet.“I thought someone was in here so I came in to check and saw that you had broken a glass cup next to your bed.” I looked down to see the broken glass cup on the floor.Ohh.“I wanted to clean it up and then you just jolted awake.” He explained, bending down to pick up the glass shards that
DREAHe was this huge bulky guy who stood stiffly by the door.“Who are you?” I asked, clutching my heart.“My name is Vance, Mrs Wolfe.” His deep voice boomed out.“What are you doing here?” I asked with my brow raised.“I’m your new personal bodyguard as of today.” He stated, staring ahead and not looking at me.Personal bodyguard?I walked towards the stairwell and saw that there were now security guards placed inside the house. No!Not inside the house.I can’t breathe with guards around me like this.I made my way towards August’s office and knocked on it.“Come—” I was already in before he could complete his statement.“Drea. Aren’t you supposed to be resting?” He asked, scanning through a pile of documents on his table.“Why are they security guards inside the house?” I asked, crossing my arms over my chest.“At least sit down.” He said, taking off his glasses.“I could barely deal with the guards outside, now they’ve doubled and are placed inside the house??!” I questioned, my
DREA“For the millionth time, I can walk on my own,” I told August who had his arm around me as we exited the car.I got discharged today and I was back at the Wolfe mansion. My eyes scanned the building as I gasped. If I thought the guards before were too much, I don’t know what I’d use to describe their numbers now.August had doubled the number of security guards that were placed outside. No inch of this house didn’t have someone standing next to it.“What is this?” I asked, gesturing to the guards.“Security guards.” He replied simply, brushing it off.“I know what they are.” I shot him a look. “Why have their numbers doubled?”“The last batch didn’t do their jobs properly so they got replaced.” He answered. My eyes widened. This was a completely new set of guards? The others got fired?I opened my mouth to speak but was cut off by Mrs Carrington.“It’s so nice to see you again, Mrs Wolfe. I’m glad you’re okay.” Mrs Carrington exclaimed, reaching out and collecting my hospital ba
DREA“Dude, just go home. You look terrible.” I heard someone say.“I’m not leaving her side. I did that for a few minutes and look at what happened to her.” I heard August say. What happened was not his fault.I was the one who decided to leave.“You haven’t gotten any sleep. Go home and rest.” I heard the other guy say.“I’ll call someone to stay with her.” The guy continued.“Ian, I will be the only one staying with her.” August declared.Hadn’t he slept? So why wasn’t he here when I woke up?“Has the guy been identified?” I heard August ask.“Not yet.” The other guy muttered. What guy?I slowly opened my eyes and stretched my arms to show them that I was awake.I was hungry.I slowly sat up, ignoring the stares from the two guys in the room.“Hi Ian.” I smiled, waving at him as he smiled.“Hey, Drea. How are you feeling?” He asked.I liked Ian.He was the only one in that crazy house who called me by my name and treated me like a friend and not a boss.“I’m okay,” I responded.“Th
DREAI slowly peeled my eyes open, but closed them immediately because the room was so bright. Can someone turn down the sun? My head hurts so much.I tried to figure out my surroundings with closed eyes. The first thing I noticed was the smell of antiseptic. The second was the hand wrapped tightly around mine.My eyes opened slowly again and squinted at the person who was sleeping with their head placed at the edge of the bed and their hand wrapped around mine.August?I slowly made a move to stand up and this person moved in their sleep before slowly sitting up.I sighed, relieved at who it was.“Drea! Are you okay?” Philip asked, his voice rising.I felt a sharp pain hit my head as I raised my hand to clutch my skull.“Please, don’t shout,” I whispered with my eyes closing once again. The door burst open and I heard someone come in.“Drea.”My eyes immediately shot open to see August standing there, a guilty expression written all over his face.He looked terrible. His eyes were b
DREA.My heart sank.“Really?” I asked, my voice low and my smile long gone.He nodded. The air was thick with tension, an uncomfortable silence settling.I opened my mouth to say something when he cut me off.“Well, it’s late. So
DREA Philip avoided my gaze completely and glanced at his mother. “I never agreed to this.” I thought out loud. I can’t get married to a stranger. I will not. Yeah, my life here was bad, but who knew what it would be like if I married a stranger? I’m not willing to take that risk. “Drea. Don’t
DREA“Miss Drea Hart?” He asked, looking at me with an unreadable expression on his face. The familiar churning I felt in my stomach settled in. Somehow, this man’s presence made me nervous.“Yes. That’s me.” I said slowly, my eyes staring at his with caution. He cleared his throat once more, exten
DREA“We can’t keep hiding this from her anymore,” He whispered harshly. My eyes gazed up to the door, my ears perched at the hushed voices coming from behind it.“Yes, we can. That is the only reason I kept her here. She would’ve been kicked out years ago if not for the agreement.” Another voice a
