Chapter 5

The notification bell of my phone rings making my heart raised with a mix of fear

and hope, I blinked twice, trying to stop my tears, with the bright light peeping into the glow of my phone screen. 1:15 pm. My heart raced as I read the message I've been waiting for, the words set my pulse racing

” I'll be waiting for you “

Everything else got blurred after reading through the message and for a moment the crowded terminal fades. It was just me, the message and the question in my chest. Am I doing the right thing? I pressed the phone towards my chest, knowing tonight would change everything.

In a few hours time I'll be in the embrace of the only person who I knew still want me, my best friend, who won't dare betray me. I smiled not at my vulnerability, but to the silly things she'll have to say to me after seeing her.

My lips curved, slightly faint but it was real, easing the pain I've been holding on to since Kade and my dad betrayed me. Looking at the bright faces of the people surrounding me, maybe with the same reason I had to flee, gave me reassurance.

I dragged the tiny suitcase clumsily heading to where the plane is ready to take off, the shadows of a Strong built man walking behind me walk pass me and a card gently dropped behind his, I picked the card and told him to he left it behind him, he smiled weirdly and offered to help me with my luggage and I said yes.

He turned his direction from the main road facing the direction of the car he parked in a stone thrown from where he stood, he stopped then politely asked me to follow him and claimed he wanted to give me his business card which I followed him.

He handed it over to me and I thanked him. A few hours before my plane to take off, I branched at a restaurant, quietly eating at the table. Handing over your bag a voice whispered behind me and I panicked, he brought a pistol and I froze instantly. I quietly followed him as he ordered.

The rest went blank as he covered my face with a napkin , blanking out. I woke up very dizzy and tasty. I looked around scamming each room for a glimpse of what's happening around me but everywhere was just bland.

I glanced at the watch on my hands luckily for me it is still there. I tried recalling the memories of the card, I thought of who to call but I realized I didn't tell anyone about my whereabouts, the only person that can save me is my mum Linda but definitely dada would be involved. I thought Kade but I'd rather die here than to set my eyes on him.

Sending a message to Lilian, my best friend, won't be easy thinking about the things she'd help me with. I remember the guy from earlier who gave me his card from earlier. I tried recalling his details and boom I remembered. Texting him is definitely impossible since my eyes and my body are tied to the chair.

The cover on my face was gently opened by a man who stood strong but innocent, he stroke his hair as if being forced into something. He brought our a gun from his pocket and pointed it to my face. The courage I have within me melted away that instant.

You don't want to do this I whispered , my voice cracking.

He raised the tip of the pistol towards the ear, he laughed darkly. Why not? He pressed. I swallowed the weight of my throat, shutting my eyes with tears while thinking about the last hope of living because of my baby is about to vanish with the wind

Because you can't afford to hurt the innocent baby in my womb, won't you?

I fired while crying more.

He laughed more loudly. The fetus in your womb made this killing more interesting, I was paid to kill you because of this fetus.

Someone who shouldn't know about this little secret of yours and is willing to go to any length just to ensure you're both dead.

And I'll just do my job and get out of here.

What do you want, I can double the money for you, just please save this innocent baby. I demanded.

You won't dare, I fired back. This little baby growing up doesn't have anything to do with this, just kill me or name anything you want my I'll give you please. I beg you

one of the men laughed loudly. She told us if Kade found out about this baby, he'll want you back at that's a loss for us too.

I froze, the memory of where I kept the pregnancy test strips flowed in. One man pulled off a knife and used the second one to guide my hands, swiftly moving beside me. My heart race while calculating the distance between life and death

Move away! a deep commanding voice said.

Within seconds, one attacker went flying another moved back confused. My chest moved up and down. Then i saw his chest. Sharp familiar features, deep childhood mark.

My breath stopped. Carl? I whispered, mouth opened. Childhood memories rushed back, flashy summers, laughter, smiling faces, Carl, my first crush now a strong man saved my life. I touched my stomach, relief mixed with fear.

You’re safe now, he said, calm yet sharp. I barely managed to nod, still shivering.

how…how did you know? I stammered, my voice trembling.

I had a feeling, and I followed you. Carl replied, affirmative. Come with me, now. He added.

We moved quickly through dark clumsy streets. Lisa’s betrayal rushed in, the hidden pregnancy, Kade, the past. Fear and confusion invaded. I couldn’t deny it. Seeing Carl again so strong and healthy, so protective, made me feel less alone.

I can’t believe you’re back,I said, with my voice cracking. I’ve always been around, he replied with a smile. Even when you couldn’t see me. And now I won’t let anything happen to you.

A shiver of calmness and nostalgia

ran through me and somehow I managed to smile back, deep.

They led away from the house...Then it suddenly ended. As if whoever

Chapter 6 The touch of my stomach felt cold beneath my palm. My body shifted slightly, then stilled, calm like someone suddenly exposed to the open air. My hand pressed against it, shaking yet I smiled faintly.Even the touch of the doorknob Carl was holding seemed to affect me indirectly, like I was picturing the touch of the knob on my skin.Suddenly a dog barked loudly. Every step made me squeezed and I nearly dropped to the floor.Carl’s deep voice held me still, calming my tense nerves. He moved beside me, releasing the doorknob. “Fear not, Avia it’s just my dog’s way of greeting you.” I bit my lip, awkwardly trying not to show my fear not to Carl, nor to his dog nor its greeting. His hand tapped my shoulder and a shout got trapped in my throat. He glanced at me, his eyes searching for something any sign. I swallowed, lowering my head shyly. My eyes drifted to the card Carl had given me earlier, lying lazily on the table where I had dropped my things almost forgotten. I stretc

She hugged me with warmth and assurance. “oh, Avia, come here.”I sat down beside her, gently wiping my tears and wearing a fake smile, trying not to show my pain.“What happened?” is it a fight between you and Kade? I nodded, with my face facing down, hiding the disappointment and shame.“Why did you come here?” My father asked me while walking up to me, and I looked up meeting his gaze.I've prayed for comfort, not fire but what I'm sensing is the exact opposite. My father, Aaron, face sparkling with fury the moment he saw my face swollen with tears. He scanned me thoroughly looking for possible hints.“You fought with who? Kade?” Aaron
