Elyra

"I'm pregnant," I announced as we all sat around the table yet the reaction I was hoping for wasn't exactly the one I got.

Silence fell on the entire dining room for an instant before my mother in law immediately burst out in a terrible laughing that left me not only surprised but confused.

"That's a terrible joke, Elyra. I'd advise you to shut up while we talk about real, normal, and possible things here," My mother in law dismissed turning to Stàr who was practically the centre of attraction this evening.

My husband's child hood bestfriend and lover if I would add.

"Stàr, how's your modelling coming through?" Everyone's attention was already diverted from me as they stared at her with pure reverence in their eyes.

I watched as my husband used his face wipe to dab her face and his fingers slightly grazed her skin making her giggle and he smiled brightly at her.

They really didn't believe that I was pregnant? Well, that should be understandable since it was already acknowledged that I couldn't give the Reigns an Heir after being proclaimed infertile.

"Can I get milk instead of wine, please?" I finally said to the maid who was standing at the corner and she was about to go get that when she was stopped by Nick, My husband.

"Elyra, stop being so problematic. You drink wine so have that instead of having to disturb anyone for your stupid demands." I bit my lips trying to stop the rage fueling in my veins from spilling over.

"It's fine, I'll take wine." I said smiling at the maid and she nodded going back to stand at the corner while I blinked my eyes repeatedly to stop tears from rolling out.

"I recently got nominated for a fashion show in Seattle." Stàr announced as they discussed and everyone at the table squealed in excitement while I stabbed my steak with a fork repeatedly.

"You know," I started in low tones, and their mood all turned sour as they turned to stare at me with discomfort etched on their faces.

By 'everyone' I mean, Nick's entire family. His mum, dad, 4 siblings and of course, the daughter in law his mother would rather have, Stàr.

"I also got nominated for the fashion show in Seattle." I said slightly shrugging my shoulders because I knew they wouldn't appreciate it more.

"Whatever." My mother in law rolled her eyes and turned to continue gushing all over Stàr and at this point, I was practically fed up.

I stood up and stretched over the table, grabbed the bottle of wine that was in front of Nick and poured it directly into my cup.

"Wow, how impressive." I muttered loud enough for everyone seated at the table to hear as I set down the glass violently.

"What was that?" My mother shot me a disdaining glance and I took a deep breath in hoping to find closure and self control but right now? It was far from.

"There's nothing I'm ever going to do for this family that is going to be enough right? No, really. I just want to hear it from y'all directly." I said pointing my fingers to each of them as they gazed at me in shock.

"Elyra, stop it right now." Nick muttered under his breath while chuckling nervously.

"She's joking." He laughed it off and I banged my hand on the table.

"No, I'm not. I just said that I was nominated for the fashion show Stàr was invited to and while I'm not in a competition with her, I expected more of a reaction." This would be the second time in three years that I've tried to stand up for myself and unlike the first time, I wasn't going to back down now.

The first time, I had called Stàr out for disrespecting me but it was then that I realized how much the family valued and respected her more than I, their son's wife.

"Kind of hard to say that you're not in a competition with her." Nick's sister whispered and I gulped down another glass of strong wine before turning to smile at her.

"Well then, I was hoping it doesn't come to this but it's clear that this marriage is a waste of my time." I furrowed through my bag and heaved a sigh when my fingers grazed the file.

I pulled it out and placed it at the center of the table leaning backwards on my chair, biting on my lips as I hoped that my facial expression wasn't betraying the nervousness I was feeling.

"She's joking," Nick repeated grabbing a hold of the file as he glared at me, "You're being silly. What even is this?" He whispered, opening it up to stare at the contents of the file when his mouth fell open probably from shock.

"What is this?" He pivoted to stare at me and I shrugged.

"It is exactly what it is." I smiled, swallowing.

"You're divorcing me?" He half yelled and every one seated at the table turned to stare at us in shock.

"I think its better for us that way. I'll never be enough for this family so its better I leave." I stood, straightening my blouse while I handed him a pen.

"Little bitch is finally coming to her senses. I wondered how long it would take for you to realize that you're not welcome here in this family. It's just about—" His mum was saying when Nick suddenly banged his hand on the table gaining every one attention.

"You're not divorcing me, Elyra. You're my wife and that's it." He warned, throwing the paper on my face.

Why can't he just accept it and sign it? I thought they never liked me so this wasn't supposed to be a hard choice anyway.

"Nick dear, just sign it. She's no use to this family." He looked appalled as he turned to stare at his mother and then Stàr.

Honestly, if I knew that he was the kind of man who waited for his mom's approval to even make a choice, I would have never agreed to this marriage in the first place.

"Listen to your mum, Nick. Do as—"

"What do you want, Elyra? More money? I'll give it to you but hell no, I'm not divorcing. I can't let you get away with half of my assets in the name of divorce. Never." His face was red with anger and I just stared at him in realization like a scale had suddenly fallen off my eyes.

He didn't want to divorce me because he wanted to keep me, he just didn't want to loose his money.

"If you think I want your money even one bit, then you're more fucked up than I can ever think Nick! I don't want your money, I even stated it right there on the divorce agreement. Just let me go." His face slowly curled up into a little smile as he shrugged, skimmed through the divorce agreement and then signed it.

"There you are. You may leave now." Stàr gave me a triumphant smirk and I returned it by smiling maniacally till she felt weirded out.

"Goodbye Radriels." I muttered, picking up my bag and walked towards the door when a soft knock came on the door.

"I'll get it." Stàr offered, hastening her steps and walked past me, slightly nudging me before opening the door.

"Hello." She greeted with her fake ass smile.

"Is Young Miss Elyra here?”

RADIELI discharged myself the following morning. The doctor clearly hated the decision.“Mr. Radiel, this is a terrible idea,” he said for what felt like the fifth time, standing in front of me with his clipboard tucked under his arm. “You still need proper rest. Your body has not fully recovered.”I adjusted the sleeve of my jacket slowly, careful not to move too suddenly because every sharp motion reminded me that my body was still far from fine.“I appreciate your concern, doctor,” I said calmly. He frowned harder, clearly hearing the finality in my tone.“I’m serious,” he continued. “You should stay for at least a few more days.”I nodded once.“I understand.”But I had already made up my mind. At this point, I was only standing there out of courtesy. The doctor seemed to realize that too, because he then sighed heavily, rubbing the bridge of his nose as if I was personally responsible for ruining his morning.“At the very least,” he said, sounding defeated now, “stay for a day o

ELYRAThe moment I saw the photograph, my stomach dropped.I recognized it instantly. Not because it was familiar in a vague way, or because it looked like something I had seen before, but because I remembered that exact day.Every detail of it.The clothes I had been wearing. The sunlight coming through the window. Even the strange feeling that had settled in my chest while I stood in that room and saw what I had seen.I slowly lowered myself onto the couch, my fingers tightening around the edge of the envelope.Three years ago.Three whole years. The picture showed me standing inside Nick’s study, leaning slightly over his desk with a stack of papers in my hand. My expression looked tense, almost cautious, like I had been caught in the middle of something I knew I should not be doing.Because I had been.I remembered it clearly now. That day had started so normally.Nick had gone out for the day as usual, and I had spent hours cleaning around the house simply because I wanted someth

ELYRAI stared at my phone for several long seconds, my fingers frozen around it while my chest felt unbearably tight. The article was everywhere.Everywhere.No matter how many times I refreshed, there it was again, spreading faster than I could even process. Headlines twisted into something ugly. Comments piling up faster than anyone could read them. People who knew absolutely nothing about my life suddenly spoke like they had been standing beside me all along. The worst part was not even the lies. It was how quickly people believed them.I shut my eyes for a second and forced myself to breathe.Panicking would not help, not now. I immediately searched for my lawyer’s contact and pressed call. The line barely rang twice before he picked up.“Elyra,” he said before I could speak. His voice already sounded tired. “I’ve seen it.”Of course he had.I swallowed.“So?”There was a pause on the line.“I’m already working on a takedown protocol,” he said carefully, sounding professional as

ELYRAI didn’t sleep properly that night. The night had dragged on in long, restless hours, and instead of lying in bed staring at the ceiling while my thoughts slowly drove me insane, I had buried myself in work—designs, sketches and unfinished projects I had abandoned for days.If my mind refused to rest, then at least my hands could stay busy. The glow of my laptop had become my company sometime after midnight, and I had barely realized how much time had gone as I sat there in front of the laptop.I remembered glancing at the clock at some point.Three-thirty.After that, exhaustion finally won.I barely managed four hours of sleep before my alarm exploded through the room like an angry warning. I jolted awake with a sharp inhale as the sound drilled into my skull.Groaning, I reached for my phone with heavy hands and shut it off.For a moment, I stayed there, face pressed into the pillow, eyes closed.Everything hurt.My shoulders felt stiff, my head heavy, and my body felt like I

ELYRAI didn’t leave the studio until past midnight.By the time I finally shut my laptop and walked out of my office, the building had gone completely quiet. Everyone else had left hours ago. The hallway lights had dimmed automatically, casting long shadows against the walls as though the place itself had decided it was time to rest. But my mind had refused to rest. The entire evening had been swallowed by work, designs, and the heavy thoughts I kept trying to outrun.Unfortunately, none of it worked, because no matter how much I distracted myself, the memory of the man who had walked into my office earlier refused to leave my head. His face, his calm voice, the warning… they all stayed there like a stain I couldn’t scrub away.Outside, the night air hit me immediately as I stepped into the parking lot. The city had quieted down, though not completely. Somewhere in the distance, I could still hear the faint sound of moving traffic.I unlocked my car and slid inside, and I started the

ELYRA.I woke up to the dull, miserable ache of someone who had fallen asleep in the worst possible position and somehow stayed there for a long period. My neck hurt, my shoulder hurt and my cheek…I slowly lifted my face from my laptop keyboard and winced. My cheek hurt too.I blinked several times, trying to clear the heaviness in my eyes while my brain slowly remembered where I was.I had dozed off while working on the desk after I had locked the bedroom last night. Wonderful.I squinted at my laptop screen and frowned. The letter G stretched endlessly across the document. Rows and rows of it.A horrifying amount of Gs.I stared at it for several seconds, then sighed.I rubbed my face and pressed my fingers on the backspace button, deleting what looked like several hundred accidental letters. The screen returned to normal.I leaned back slowly and rolled my neck.Crack.A painful but deeply satisfying sound.“Oh, that’s concerning,” I whispered.I closed my eyes for a second. This

RADIELThe moment I heard the urgency in my employee's voice, I knew something had gone terribly wrong. He hadn’t even explained properly. All I had gotten was a rushed, tensed “Sir, you need to come down to the warehouse. Right now,” before the call ended. That alone was enough.I didn’t waste a s

NICKI leaned back in my chair, slowly twirling a pen between my fingers, watching it spin while I smiled in satisfaction. Some things never changed. Even after all these months, getting under Elyra’s skin was still far too easy.I let out a quiet chuckle, shaking my head slightly. The office was

ELYRAI could see the shock on Radiel’s face the moment the words left my lips. His expression froze completely, like someone had suddenly pressed pause on him. His brows drew together slowly, and his eyes searched my face as if he wasn’t sure he had heard me correctly. But honestly, I didn’t care.

ELYRABy the time Radiel finished explaining everything, the café had grown louder. The restaurant he chose sat near the river, a calm place with wide windows and soft music playing in the background. Normally, it would have been the kind of place I enjoyed sitting in for hours. But right now, the
