LOGINOn the day fate gave Gemma everything she'd ever wanted, it took it all away. Chosen as mates to Elias: the man she'd loved for years, Gemma thought her life was finally beginning. Instead, he rejected her before the entire pack, shattering her bond and her heart in a single breath. Certain she has nothing left to live for, Gemma disappears into the Darkwood Forest, ready to end it all. But death never comes. Instead, she is saved by the last man she ever wanted to see. The Alpha King. The ruthless ruler whose family destroyed hers. The enemy she has spent her whole life hating. Then he says the one thing that changes everything. "You're my mate." Impossible. A wolf only has one true mate. So why is the most feared Alpha in the territory claiming the woman another man rejected? As old blood debts, deadly secrets, and a forbidden mate bond threaten to ignite a war between packs, Gemma must choose between the man who broke her heart... and the enemy who was destined to claim it. Some rejections are the beginning of a love story. Others start a war.

"No matter what happens, do not give them a reason to think you are weak. You are not weak baby. You are my strong little girl."
I remember every word Mother said the night before her death. The night before the cold hands-off death came knocking on the door and taking along with it my family. Those words were plastered in my head, but guess what? I never did as she wished. Instead, I am nothing but a doormat being stepped on all my life.
A weak, poor psycho who's only living by a privilege. That's all they call me. Never has anything good ever happened to me. I am like a bit of bad luck to everyone who comes close to me and because of that, I am being treated like a plague.
A plague that should be avoided at all costs.
Who am I to blame or judge them? That's the truth about my life anyway.
"Gemma, madam is looking for you everywhere. Guess you have done something stupid again." The head servant pushed me out of my thoughts, warning me of the impending danger if I went to meet the boss.
Her eyes were filled with concern for me, which got me thinking about what I might have done to be sent to Luna's chamber again.
It would be the fifth time I would be called upon by the Luna of the White Wales wolf pack that day. That woman hates me for no reason. She said I was disgusting and I irritated her. Well, that's what everyone tells me.
I knocked on the door and after being told to go in, I opened it gently and entered the massive room with my boss sitting on the bed and her arms folded.
I swallowed hard knowing what was coming for me anytime she sat that way. She lifted her eyes and her gaze fell on me. My heart seized to beat for a moment and it almost seemed as if my chest would burst open in no time.
"You called for me, ma'am."
"You daughter of evil!" Her voice echoed in the walls of the room causing a gasp to fall out of my lips but I quickly maintained myself and faced her again.
"You are only here cause of a privilege and you will do everything I tell you to do."
I clenched the hem of my gown and moved back a bit.
"I know ma'am."
"Good," She stood up and walked to where I stood. With every step she took, my heart threatened to fall out of my chest, leaving me empty.
The heels clicking to the ground warned about the danger she was carrying along with her, igniting fear in me that soon engulfed my body.
I know who she is. A woman who rules alongside her husband, the alpha of the pack. A woman who gets whatever she wants. A woman who can never be appeased by anyone.
That is who she is.
She stopped before me with a malicious smile plastered on her face. "You just had to be blessed with such a pretty face, right?"
I lowered my head, not daring to look at her face but she wrapped her fingers around my chin and forced me to look at her.
"Look at me when I am talking to you." She ordered, but on other days, I would receive a beating or a slap for daring to look at the queen of queens.
I swallowed hard and nodded, taking my gaze to her face but trying my best to avoid her gaze. "Now is the time you would make use of your beauty my darling. It would be a waste since no one wants you anyway. Your mate would reject you at first sight, trust me."
What does my face have to do with the assignment she wants for me?
I arched my brows and asked, "What do you want me to do for you, ma'am?"
She nodded in appreciation that I asked and, she stepped back. "Nice question. What I want is pretty easy. We would be receiving a visitor from the royal werewolf headquarters. He is the nephew of the werewolf king."
"I will go and arrange the visitor's room for him madam." I quickly said, getting ahead of myself. If only I knew what was going on in her mind, I would have found a way out before she even spoke about it.
"I am the boss and I do the talking." Her stern voice forced me to keep shut. It wouldn't be a good idea to annoy the woman.
"I apologize ma'am." My voice was low and almost inaudible. I shouldn't have spoken.
"Anyway, he would be here for the first moon "
The first moon, every young werewolf's dream. A night when mate gets chosen. A time when true love is found. A time when soulmates are joined together.
As for me, it would be a night to escape from my chains and shackles. A night to be free from being a slave. It is a law for all werewolves that when they find a mate as a slave, they would be freed from slavery. This is my only chance and I need to get involved.
She drew nearer and took the few strands of hair that fell across my forehead to my ear. "You will entertain my guess tonight and give him all he wants, especially your body." She finally let the cat out of the bag causing my heart to throb faster than normal.
Now I am doing this? Please, people? Not what I expected.
I shook my head trying to tell her not to go ahead with the plan but a scowl immediately covered her face.
"I am not seeking your permission. I am ordering you. This is an order. You wanted to go out but guess what, you don't have the chance."
There was nothing I could do. The Luna was serious about what she said and that meant I was in for a lot of trouble.
I couldn't believe what I heard. How could she say something like that? Satisfy her guest? Is she planning on using me as her sex slave now? With a lot of questions running through my mind, I quickly went to my knees with my palms joined together to try to stop the rising matter.
"Ma'am please, I can't do it. Please have mercy." I pleaded but it all fell on deaf ears.
"Get out of my room and go prepare." She ordered.
Tonight would be the night of the first moon. The night was mates would be chosen and now, Madam Margaret want to ruin my only chance of being freed from slavery.
Once I get a mate who accepts me, I will be gone from this house. I swallowed hard and stood up. I will have to come up with something.
I bowed and rushed out of the room but bumped into someone by the door. He held me from falling and a smile was plastered on his face.
"Careful Gemma. Where are you rushing off to?"
Elias. The son of Margaret and the alpha. He is my only chance of escaping.
"Please I need your help."
"What is wrong?" He asked with his voice filled with concern.
"I need to....."
"What are you still doing here?"
I gasped and jumped in fright seeing Madam Margaret behind me. I am in trouble this time.
"What were you trying to do?" she questioned with anger lacing her features.
GEMMAI watched her. She looked so genuine. But, I couldn't trust her anymore. I could hear the conflict in her voice though. It was the way she was trying to convince herself that she was doing the right thing but her mind was conflicted. She was struggling between duty and doubt. I needed to seize this moment.“There’s still time to make things right,” I said. “You don’t have to go down this path, Astra. You can still choose a different way. You can make this work.”She shook her head, a small smile on her lips. “It’s not that simple, Gemma,” she replied. “There are too many lives at stake. There are too many things already set in motion.”“But you’re the one in control,” I insisted. “You’re the one who can stop this before it goes too far. Think about your people. Think about what they need. Is this what they would want?”She looked away. I saw her jaw tighten. I could see the way her thoughts were turning over and over. For a moment, I dared to hope that maybe I could get through
GEMMAI came to talk,” he said, glancing back at the door as he took a few steps towards me, “And I don't have much time.”I took a deep breath, choosing my words carefully. “Did you know? Did you know about Astra’s plans? Right from the very beginning.” I said quietly. He hesitated. “Gemma, it’s complicated,” he began, but I cut him off right there.“Don’t give me that, Matteo. It's complicated?” I snapped. “I trusted you, Matteo, I believed in you. It wasn't supposed to be complicated until you and Astra stabbed everyone in the back. Did you know what she was planning?”He sighed, running a hand through his hair. “I suspected,” he admitted. “But I didn’t know for sure. It came as a bit of a shock to me too. I had my doubts. I thought that Astra was finally starting to leave her brother's shadow but, I was wrong.”I listened to him intently as he spoke. “Astra, she’s been keeping things from me too.” he continued.I don't know why, but I was suddenly angry. “So, you still had an idea
GEMMAI couldn't get my mind off the fact that I needed to speak to Matteo. My wolf, Nala, was also insisting. I felt that I could get my answers from her.The room was colder now. I was sitting on the ground and it was causing my bones to ache. I shifted slightly, wincing as the cuffs around my wrists tugged against my skin. The chains rattled. I needed to focus.Matteo. I had to talk to Matteo. The idea kept eating at me. He was Astra’s right hand, he was the one person who could’ve seen this coming. If anyone knew what she was planning, it had to be him. But could I trust him to tell me the truth? Was he in on it too?I shifted again, pulling against the chains. I needed to see if they could break. They were solid, I couldn't break them. It was no use. I had to be smart about this. If I could get Matteo to come to me and confront him directly, maybe I could get some answers from him.The door creaked open and I turned in that direction. I was expecting Astra to return, but it wasn’
NATEI asked everyone to meet in the council room. It felt colder than usual. The walls seemed to close in on me.I sat at the head of the long table, tapping my fingers against the armrest of my chair. George sat across from me, his brow furrowed. Leonard tried his best to remain still, keeping his face calm and his lips pressed into a tight line. Each of us was waiting for someone to speak. I had done a brief of the meeting with Ragnarok. We were waiting for someone to suggest the next move. The Luna Queen stood by the fireplace. Her back was straight and she had her hands folded behind her back. Her golden hair was pinned back tightly, and her eyes held that determined look.I've noticed that look since I was a child. She always had it when she was thinking. Even so, I caught a flicker of doubt in her eyes. She turned and scanned the room.Ragnarok had made it public that Gemma, the White Wolf, my mate and the strongest wolf of our kind, was now on his side. He had claimed so and t
