Celeste’s Pov

"You signed it already."

My father didn't look up from his desk. That told me everything.

"Celeste…."

"Don't." I pressed my hands flat against the wood between us because I needed something solid. "Tell me you didn't sign a contract handing me to a man I don't know."

He looked up then. His expression was the one I had seen my whole life, the one that meant he had already decided and was now waiting for me to accept it. "The Ferraro deal is dead. Someone had to fix it."

"Someone." I laughed. It didn't sound like me. "You mean me. I had to fix it."

"You were already seen with him. The story is already out."

"I was drugged, Papa."

"I know that."

"And you signed the contract anyway."

He folded his hands. "The Voss family is more powerful than Ferraro ever was. This is not a punishment. This is an upgrade."

I stared at him for a long time. Long enough to understand that there was no version of this conversation where he heard me. There never had been. I was twenty six years old and I had spent every one of those years keeping this family above water and my father had just sold me to settle a scandal my sister created.

"When." My voice came out flat.

"Two weeks."

I walked out before he could say anything else.

Sera was waiting in the hallway. She knew from my face. She reached for my arm and I stepped around her without stopping.

"Celeste, please…."

"Not right now."

"I didn't think it would go this far. I just needed one night, I needed Dante to think the engagement was already broken, I didn't think—"

I stopped walking. I turned around slowly. She looked the way she always looked when she wanted forgiveness before she had earned it. Young. Sorry. Already halfway into the story she would tell herself later to make this easier to carry.

"You drugged me," I said. "You put something in my drink and sent me out and didn't check where I ended up. And now I'm getting married in two weeks to a man whose face I didn't even see."

Her eyes filled. "I'm sorry."

"I know you are." I turned back around. "It doesn't help."

******************

I didn't sleep that night. I sat on the edge of my bed and thought about the morning I woke up in that hotel room. The sheets were expensive. The room was quiet. The man beside me was already half dressed with his back to me and I left before he turned around because something about the stillness of him frightened me more than the situation did.

I had told myself it was manageable. One night. No name. No trace.

I was wrong about all of it.

The Voss estate was two hours outside the city. I had heard the name my whole life the way you hear about weather in a country you've never visited, present, consequential, distant. Nico Voss didn't attend events. He didn't sit at tables. People came to him or they waited. The fact that my father had gotten a meeting at all told me how badly he had needed to fix things.

I did my own research in those two weeks. What I found didn't comfort me.

Nico Voss had taken over the empire at twenty eight after his father's death and restructured it so completely that the allied families had spent three years trying to understand the new map. He didn't make threats. He made decisions and let the outcomes speak. There were no verified photographs of him that were less than four years old. He had no public profile, no known relationships, nothing that could be used as leverage.

He was, by every measure, untouchable.

And I was about to live in his house.

******************

The morning of the transfer — I refused to call it a wedding — I dressed without help and came downstairs to find my father in the foyer with two men I didn't recognize. Dark suits. No expression. The kind of still that meant they were always watching.

My father kissed my cheek. "You'll be well taken care of."

"Goodbye, Papa."

He flinched slightly. Good.

The drive was quiet. I watched the city thin out into open roads and then into something greener and more isolated and I kept my hands in my lap and my face neutral. One of the men tried to make small conversation once and I looked at him until he stopped.

When the gates opened I understood for the first time what the word compound actually meant. The estate was not a house. It was a statement. Stone and iron and a long driveway that seemed designed to give you enough time to feel the weight of where you were going before you arrived.

The car stopped. A woman came out to meet me — fifties, immaculate, with the kind of posture that had been trained into her rather than grown. She introduced herself as Iris and said she managed the household and would show me to my rooms.

Rooms. Plural. That was something.

I followed her inside and through corridors that were impressive in a way that felt deliberate, like everything here, until she stopped outside a set of double doors and opened them.

The room was large and quiet and had a window that looked out over the grounds. It was also not empty.

He was standing at that window with his back to me. Tall. Still. Exactly the kind of still I remembered from a hotel room two weeks ago.

My heart did something I didn't have a name for.

He turned around and looked at me and said nothing for a moment that stretched long enough to be uncomfortable.

Then — "You're shorter than I expected."

I met his eyes. "You're exactly what I expected."

Something shifted in his expression. Not quite anamusement. Not quite its opposite.

"We'll see how long that lasts," he said.

The first snow of the season dusted the estate like powdered sugar as Celeste stood at the kitchen window, watching the soft flakes fall. The house smelled of fresh pine from the holiday decorations and cinnamon from the cookies baking in the oven. Sofia arrived with the children, her face showing the exhaustion of the long custody battle. "Mom, the final hearing is next month and I'm so scared. My ex is using every old story about our family to try to take more time with the kids. The youngest keeps having nightmares about being separated from me."Celeste wiped her hands on her apron and pulled her daughter into a tight hug, feeling the tension in Sofia's shoulders. "Come sit by the fire. I've made your favorite hot chocolate with extra marshmallows. The kids can help decorate the tree while we talk." Sofia managed a tired smile as the children ran to the big Christmas tree in the living room. "Thank you, Mom. These visits keep me going."Nico joined them in the living room, moving

The autumn leaves had turned deep red and orange across the estate, creating a beautiful backdrop as Celeste walked the garden paths with a light sweater wrapped around her shoulders. The crisp air carried the scent of falling leaves and distant woodsmoke. Sofia arrived with the children for a weekend stay, looking worn from the ongoing custody battles. "Mom, the next hearing is in two weeks and my ex is bringing up every old story about our family. The kids are asking so many questions. The youngest had another nightmare last night about being taken away."Celeste pulled her daughter into a warm embrace near the rose bushes, feeling Sofia's tired body relax slightly. "Come inside, darling. I've prepared your favorite roast chicken with all the sides. The kids can play in the leaves while we talk." Sofia managed a small, grateful smile as the children ran off to jump in the colorful piles. "Thank you, Mom. I feel like I can't breathe sometimes with all of this."Nico joined them on th

The late summer sun cast a golden glow over the estate as Celeste walked through the rose garden, the petals soft under her fingers. The sweet scent mixed with the warm breeze. Sofia arrived with the children for a weekend visit, her shoulders tense from another difficult week. "Mom, the court is considering his request for more time. He keeps bringing up our family arrangement like it's something bad. The kids are so confused. The youngest asked me yesterday if we were a broken family."Celeste pulled her daughter into a warm hug, feeling the exhaustion in Sofia's body. "Come sit on the patio. I've made fresh iced tea and sandwiches. The kids can play while we talk." Sofia managed a tired smile as the children ran toward the fountain. "Thank you. I feel like I'm drowning sometimes. The lawyer says we have a good case, but the process is killing me."Nico joined them, moving slowly with his cane, the lines on his face showing his own struggles. "Sofia, you're an incredible mother. We'

  • Claimed By The Voss Twins    CHAPTER SIXTY

The golden light of early summer bathed the estate gardens as Celeste walked slowly among the blooming roses, their sweet scent filling the warm air. She paused to touch a soft petal, thinking about how far they had come and how new conflicts still found ways to challenge them. Sofia arrived for lunch with two of the children, her face showing the strain of months of legal battles. "Mom, the latest court filing is brutal. He's claiming our lifestyle is unstable for the kids. I stayed up all night preparing my response with the lawyers. I just want this to end so we can have peace."Celeste hugged her daughter tightly, feeling the tension in Sofia's shoulders. "Come inside. I've made your favorite lemonade. The kids can play in the garden while we talk." Sofia managed a small smile as the children ran toward the flowers. "Thank you. I don't know what I'd do without you three." Nico joined them on the patio, moving carefully with his cane. "Sofia, you're doing everything right. We're pr

  • Claimed By The Voss Twins    CHAPTER FIFTY-NINE

The first warm days of spring brought new flowers to the estate gardens, but inside the house new conflicts tested the family once again. Celeste stood at the kitchen counter chopping fresh vegetables for dinner, the knife making steady sounds against the cutting board. The smell of garlic and herbs filled the air. Sofia walked in carrying a stack of legal papers, her face pale and tired. "Mom, the ex just filed again. He wants the kids for the entire summer and is bringing up the whole twin thing in court. I don't know how to explain this to them without breaking their hearts."Celeste wiped her hands on a towel and pulled her daughter into a hug. "Come sit down. You've been carrying so much. How are the little ones handling it?" Sofia sank into a chair and rubbed her temples. "The middle one had another meltdown at school today. She asked me why Daddy doesn't love us anymore. It broke me, Mom. I feel like I'm failing them."Nico entered the kitchen slowly, his steps careful after hi

The winter wind howled outside the estate windows as Celeste stood in the warm kitchen, chopping vegetables for a large pot of stew. The smell of onions and herbs filled the air. Sofia walked in carrying her youngest child, looking exhausted with dark circles under her eyes. "Mom, the court date is next week and I'm terrified. He’s bringing up everything again — the twins, the contract, our whole history. The kids keep asking why Daddy is so angry with us."Celeste set down the knife and hugged her daughter tightly. "I know, sweetheart. It feels endless. But remember what we went through in the beginning. We chose each other every single day. You can do this too." Nico entered the room slowly, leaning on his cane a little more than usual. "Sofia, we're all behind you. The lawyers are good. We'll get through this." Eli followed, his face tired from long days at the office. "And the company is falling apart at the seams. Two more executives quit yesterday. They said the constant media n

Celeste's Pov There were exactly two options. Lie or tell the truth. Lying to Nico Voss in his own house on a matter he could verify in under an hour seemed like a fast way to lose the small ground I had gained. So I told the truth."He's someone I knew before all of this," I said. "We were involv
