[Gwyneth]
They say the Moon Goddess will grant you the things you desire most, as long as the moon and time are aligned. I’ve believed in her for as long as I can remember. That’s why I’ve always been certain that Soren and I are mates, from the very moment I first understood what love was.

“What?” I asked in disbelief, the word slipping out as I stared at Alpha Conrad, my father, still unable to absorb what he had just said.
He had summoned me to his private den before I departed for Lycan Academy, where I was supposed to continue my studies. I had assumed it would be a brief, formal send-off. It was anything but.
“I said you are going to marry the first son of the Blackwood Pack in three months,” he repeated firmly.
“No… how can you do this to me?” My voice trembled as the reality began to sink in.
“Because you are my daughter!” he snapped.
“But why me? You’re doing this because I’m your illegitimate child!” I blurted, unable to stop myself. It was the painful truth that had always lingered between us.
He clenched his fists, barely holding himself back.
I am his second daughter, but not by his Luna, the mother of my older sister and the one after me. I am something else entirely: the product of a secret, a reminder of a mistake, a shadow in a house that had never quite made room for me. And now, it seemed, he wanted me gone.
A tight pressure gripped my chest, and tears welled up, spilling before I could stop them.
His jaw hardened, and when he spoke again, his voice echoed through the room. “The Blackwood Pack is one of the strongest. We need this alliance because I don’t have a fvcking son to protect our pack!”
He drew a long breath and pressed his eyes shut, steadying himself. “You’re aware your sister Lynn married into the Ravencrest Pack to secure our strength and resources. So don’t you dare assume I’m doing this just because you’re different!”
His words stung, and I couldn’t stop crying.
He exhaled sharply and dropped into his chair, exhaustion finally seeping through his rigid posture.
“What do you want me to do? Marry off Zaya instead? Your fifteen-year-old sister?”
Guilt twisted in my chest. I knew how I must have sounded: stubborn, ungrateful, selfish. But I wasn’t refusing without reason.
“But Soren is my mate, Dad,” I whispered.
He paused, eyes narrowing slightly as he turned the words over in his mind.
“Soren Michaels of the Ravencrest?” he asked.
“Yes, he’s my mate. We agreed to make our relationship known once I entered university.”
A silence settled over the room. My father leaned back, his expression unreadable, though I could almost see the calculations behind his eyes.
I understood exactly what he was weighing. Soren’s cousin had married my elder sister, Lynn, that was how Soren and I met. Over time, he became more than just family-adjacent; he became my confidant, my protector, the one person who made me feel I belonged.
Two years ago, we made a promise to each other.
Now, if my mate truly belonged to the Ravencrest Pack while my father was trying to bind me to the Blackwood Pack, it would set two alliances on a collision course and leave our pack caught in the middle.
After a moment, my father spoke again. “Since I’ve never heard of your claim, I’m giving you one week to prove that Soren is your mate.”
He didn’t believe me. But my faith was unshaken, and so was my love for Soren.
“Prove it, Gwen.” His final order ended the discussion before he dismissed me from the pack grounds, sending me to Lycan Academy, five hundred miles away from the Hollow Pack…
To a place where I would be forced to face the truth.
That afternoon, I arrived at the academy, excitement building in my chest. It was located far up north, outside our territory.
Rumi was the first person I saw when she opened the car door for me. She was the daughter of Beta Rowan and had arrived here a year earlier than I did.
We hugged, and for a moment, the weight of my father’s ultimatum lifted.
“Where is Soren?” I asked, already reaching for my phone to pull up the campus map.
“He’s in Obsidian Hall,” she replied.
I was already moving, eyes on the screen, my heart a step ahead of my feet. I was so eager, so certain that seeing him would make everything fall into place, that I didn’t notice the change in her expression.
“Come on, he must be excited to see me too! I have something important to tell him!”
I followed the map, weaving toward the building just a short distance ahead. Behind me, I heard Rumi’s voice…
“But Gwen…”
But before I could even reach the entrance, I already saw the person I was looking for, and it felt like reality slapped me in the face. Shame immediately followed, washing over me for the words I had spoken to my father.
He was standing at the entrance to Obsidian Hall, but nothing about the scene matched the reunion I had been replaying in my mind the entire five-hundred-mile drive here.
A woman stood beside him, his arm firmly around her waist, as though he had no intention of letting her go.
Everything we had talked about after I confessed my feelings to him two years ago came rushing back.
He had promised me.
And I had believed every word…
My chest tightened, and no matter how desperately I tried to bury the pain, it clawed its way to the surface.I turned my gaze to Diana, whose tears continued to fall.“Now do you understand why setting foot in this manor is an insult to the Alpha’s bloodline? If you believe you’re making a noble sacrifice for Zev, then you’ve misunderstood everything.”She lowered her eyes, unable to meet mine.Zev didn’t understand a single word I meant. How could he? His mind had already made its choice; all he saw was Diana in tears and me standing before her, as if bullying an omega.“I said that’s enough!” His voice thundered across the garden. Before I could respond, a burning sting exploded across my cheek. The slap held more than anger. It came from frustration and a darkness in his eyes I’d never seen before. For a heartbeat, the entir
[Kira]One evening, a few days after my birthday, I was surprised when someone came to the manor looking for me.“Lady Kira, Diana is waiting outside. She says she’d like to speak with you,” my personal servant informed me.“Please escort her to the garden,” I said.I zipped up the travel bag I was bringing to Thornfell. Everything I needed for the journey had already been packed.Even so, I couldn’t help wondering what Diana wanted from me. I left my room and headed toward the garden, the very same place where I had learned the truth about Zev’s nature, his infidelity.I spotted her almost immediately. The moment our eyes met, she slowly rose to her feet.“What do you need from me?” I asked, stopping a few paces away. She didn’t bother exchanging greetings. “Zev and I slept t
The two servants immediately dropped to their knees, trembling.“LadyGwyneth, please forgive us! We spoke without thinking!”The Queen’s expression hardened. “Guards!” Within seconds, the guards outside burst through the doors. “Take them away! They will be punished for their reckless tongues!” she commanded coldly.Ignoring the servants’ desperate cries, they seized both women and dragged them from the room.“My Queen! Please!”Their screams faded farther down the corridor until silence settled over the chamber once more.An inexplicable chill crept beneath my skin.“To be clear,” the priestess continued, “the presence I sensed wasn’t Virel’s blood or essence within the pups.”She hesita
[Gwyneth] Pups... babies... It had only been a month since I regained consciousness in this place, yet I already had countless questions that no one could answer. Everything felt like a puzzle with missing pieces; my identity, my past… The door to the room opened, and my mother stepped inside. She found me standing by the tall arched window, gazing over the palace grounds. “I was told by the servants that you skipped lunch, so I brought you something to eat.” I forced a faint smile. “My Queen Mother, this pregnancy has left me with little appetite. Forgive me for causing you concern.” She set the tray aside before taking my hands into hers. “A Lycan pregnancy has never been an easy burden to bear.” Her gaze drifted to my swollen belly, and a mixture of wonder and concern softened her features. “Since our pups develop much faster than human babies, it will take a couple of months before they’re born. It’s been a very long time since a female Lycan has carried twins,” she expl
[Lucian] “She’s dead!” my father declared, his voice echoing through the room. “Hasn’t more than a month of her disappearance been enough for you to face reality? You’re to marry Alpha Conrad’s second daughter, whoever she may be. There’s no difference!” “How can you say that, Derrick?” the Luna snapped. She had already gotten to know Gwen during the betrothal period, and I knew she had grown fond of my wife, not just as a political obligation, but as a person. “I’m just trying to make sense of all this!” my father replied, his gaze hardening as it landed on me. “And you, of all the wolves, know what happened that day. You were the last one with Gwen before she vanished.” “But it’s different because I love Gwen!” I shot back. “I didn’t just marry one of Alpha Conrad’s daughters to seal a treaty. I married the woman I cherish!” The woman I loved... and the woman I failed to protect. The thought tore through my chest. “I’m still fucking grieving,” I said, my voice breaking despit
The king frowned. “And what does bringing her here mean for our territory?” The queen met his gaze without flinching. “She can heal me, Leon!” the queen cried, her voice sharp as breaking glass. “After everything you put me through, our daughter is the only one who can mend what’s left of me.” “You said we should let go of the past!” he retorted, desperation creeping into his voice. “Why? Because facing the truth is inconvenient for you? Finding our daughter doesn’t erase the betrayal, the pain, or the years I lost! Some wounds don’t fade, even for us lycans.” Silence settled between them before the queen finally steadied herself. “Gwyneth is carrying pups,” she said more calmly. “Those children will continue my bloodline and strengthen the future of this territory. I no longer care about the secrets buried in her past. What matters now is that no one discovers where she is! You will help me keep her hidden and protect her at all costs.” *** [Kira] “What? She’s missing?” I ask
Tears streamed down Zaya’s face, and a knot of anxiety tightened in my chest as I waited for what she would say next.“I saw it…” she whispered, her voice trembling. “I saw Mom force something into Lynn’s mouth.”Kira and I exch
“You mean Lynn still hasn’t regained consciousness?”My father’s voice cut through the room like a blade.I couldn’t meet his eyes. We were gathered in one of the manor’s study rooms, and the silence that followed his question fe
Kira still hadn’t calmed down by the time we returned to the manor. The atmosphere throughout the territory felt heavy, as though the tension from earlier had seeped into the very air around us.“Was I wrong for crashing out like that?” she asked quietl
“Lucian, are you defending the actions of the Hollow Pack’s daughter?” the man retorted, clearly displeased with the situation.“Perhaps you’re forgetting that my mate is a member of the Hollow Pack, and she’s sitting right next to me! Or are you deliberately trying to humiliate me?”
