I couldn't move. The headline stayed on my phone screen while notifications kept pouring in. Someone had leaked our marriage contract, and every news page was calling me a gold digger. My hands trembled. Outside, reporters shouted Caelan's name, demanding answers. Evelyn closed the blinds and asked me to stay away from the windows. I wanted to leave, but stepping outside would only make things worse.

Caelan returned a few minutes later after speaking with security. His jaw was tight. 'This wasn't an accident,' he said. 'Someone planned this.' I looked at him. 'Your enemies?' He nodded once. 'And now they've dragged you into it.' I wanted to ask more questions, but another notification appeared. My company shares had started falling because investors believed the marriage was fake. My stomach twisted. Everything I wanted to protect was being destroyed before the wedding even happened.

Caelan took my phone and placed it face down. 'Stop reading the comments.' I frowned. 'Easy for you to say.' 'No,' he answered quietly. 'I've lived with this kind of attention for years. It never gets easier.' His words surprised me. For the first time I saw how tired he looked.

He told me he would hold a press conference that afternoon. 'I'll deal with this publicly.' 'What if they ask why you're marrying me?' I asked. He looked at me for a second. 'I'll tell them the truth they need to hear. The rest stays between us.' I didn't know whether to trust him, but I had no better choice.

The conference hall was packed. Cameras flashed the moment Caelan walked in. I stayed backstage, watching through a monitor. Questions came from every direction. 'Is this marriage a business deal?' 'Did Miss Vale force you?' 'Is the contract real?' Caelan waited until the room became quiet.

'Yes,' he said. 'Miss Neria Vale is the woman I have chosen to marry. I will not discuss private agreements. But I will say this. Anyone attacking her is attacking me.' Silence filled the room before reporters shouted even louder. My heart pounded. He could have denied everything or blamed me. Instead, he protected me.

After the conference, we left through a private exit. As the car pulled away, I looked at him. 'Why did you do that?' He kept his eyes on the road ahead. 'Because you don't deserve what they're saying about you.' Those simple words stayed with me the entire drive.

When we reached the mansion that would become my home after the wedding, I realized this fake marriage had already become far more complicated than either of us expected. And somewhere, someone was still watching us, waiting for the next move.

The headline spread across every news channel within minutes. I stood frozen as my phone kept vibrating. Messages from unknown numbers flooded my screen. Some called me a gold digger. Others accused Caelan of buying a wife to secure his company.

Caelan gently took my phone and switched it off.

"Don't read any more of them," he said.

"I can't pretend this isn't happening."

"You don't have to face it alone."

His words stayed with me as Evelyn rushed back into the office.

"The rear exit is secure, sir."

Caelan nodded. "Let's go."

Security surrounded us as we left through a private elevator. Even from inside the building, I could hear reporters shouting outside. Camera flashes lit the entrance as our convoy drove away.

Inside the car, neither of us spoke for several minutes.

Finally, I broke the silence.

"Someone is trying to destroy both of us."

"Yes."

"You knew something like this would happen?"

"I knew my enemies wouldn't stay quiet."

I looked at him carefully.

"Who are they?"

His expression remained unreadable.

"I'll answer that when I have proof. Until then, I need you to trust me enough to stay careful."

I sighed and looked out the window.

This fake marriage was already becoming more dangerous than I had imagined.

Nearly forty minutes later, the car stopped before a massive black gate. Beyond it stood Ashford Mansion.

I stared at the building.

"This is where you'll live?" I asked.

"For the next year," he replied.

As the gates slowly opened, I couldn't shake the feeling that someone was already watching us from the shadows.

Chapter SixNeria’s POVI couldn’t stop staring at Caelan after he ended the call. His expression remained calm, but I could tell something was wrong. He slipped his phone back into his pocket and looked at me. “We have to leave now.”I frowned. “What about my father’s office? The police haven’t finished searching.”“They’ll secure the building. Right now, I don’t want you here any longer.”His voice was firm enough to end the argument before it even started. I looked around the office one last time. Seeing my father’s desk turned upside down and his belongings scattered across the floor made my chest ache. Whoever had broken in wasn’t after money. They had been looking for something important, and the worst part was that they probably knew exactly where to look.We walked back outside together. The night air felt colder than before. As soon as we got into the car, the convoy pulled away from the building. Neither of us spoke for several minutes. I kept replaying everything that had h

Chapter Five:Neria’s POVI had imagined what a billionaire’s home would look like, but nothing prepared me for Ashford Mansion. The gates slowly opened, and the car drove through a long driveway lined with perfectly trimmed hedges and fountains. The mansion stood proudly in the distance, surrounded by beautiful gardens. It looked less like a house and more like a palace.I suddenly felt underdressed.“This is your home?” I asked quietly.Caelan looked out of the window.“Yes.”That was all he said. The car stopped in front of the entrance. Before I could reach for the door, one of the security guards opened it for me.I stepped out, looking around carefully.Several housekeepers stood in two neat lines. A middle-aged man in a black suit walked forward with a warm smile.“Welcome home, Mr. Ashford.”His eyes moved to me.“And welcome home, Mrs. Ashford.”The title made me uncomfortable.“I’m not really—”“You are,” Caelan interrupted calmly. “From today onward.”The butler gave a poli

I couldn't sleep. The pen rested on my table like it was waiting for me... I kept staring at my father's photograph, asking myself what he would do. Pride wouldn't save Vale Industries. My employees needed salaries, not promises. Before sunrise I made my decision.I returned to Ashford Group with the signed contract tucked inside my bag. My hands were cold, but my steps were steady. This wasn't love. It was survival.Caelan was already waiting when I entered his office. He looked at me for a long moment before his eyes dropped to the contract in my hands. 'You've decided,' he said.'I have.' My voice barely shook. 'I'll marry you.'He didn't smile. He simply nodded, as though he had expected that answer all along. Somehow that annoyed me. 'You're not even surprised?' I asked.'I was hoping you would choose your company,' he replied calmly. 'You did.'I placed the signed contract on his desk. 'Don't make me regret this.''I'll keep every promise in that agreement, Mrs... Miss Vale.' He correc

  • Claimed by the Ruthless CEO   The Offer I never expected

Chapter TwoI barely slept after receiving the invitation from Ashford Group. Every time I closed my eyes, I saw my father's face and the pile of unpaid bills on his desk. By morning I had convinced myself the meeting would lead nowhere, but I still went because I had run out of choices. The Ashford headquarters was larger than any building I had entered before. Marble floors, quiet halls, and employees who moved with confidence made me feel completely out of place. I reminded myself that I was not there to admire the building. I was there to fight for my company.A woman introduced herself as Evelyn and led me to the top floor. She asked if I wanted coffee. I politely refused because my stomach was too tight for anything. When the elevator doors opened, the silence became even heavier. She stopped outside a pair of dark wooden doors and smiled. 'Mr. Ashford will see you now.' I walked in alone. The office was simple, not flashy. Floor-to-ceiling windows overlooked the city. Behind a la

Chapter OneI used to believe that hard work could fix anything. That belief began to break on the morning I stood beside my father's coffin.Rain fell without stopping. The cold wind pushed against my black dress as people offered quiet words that I barely heard. I smiled when I had to. I thanked everyone who came. But inside, I felt empty. My father had always been my safe place. He built Vale Industries with nothing except determination and honesty. He often told me, “Money comes and goes, Neria. Your name is what stays.”Now he was gone. When the last guest left, I remained alone beside his grave.“I'll protect everything you built,” I whispered. “I promise.”I believed those words.I had no idea how impossible that promise would become....The next morning, I walked into my father's office for the first time without him waiting behind the desk.Everything looked the same. His coffee cup was still there. His reading glasses rested on a stack of papers. Our lawyer, Mr. Harris, stood near the
