Chapter 2

Lilith’s pov

“Fuck!” I cursed loudly as I wandered down the street, swallowing the dreadful feeling that stuck to my throat.

I was a mess!

My life was falling apart right before my eyes and there was a little I could do.

I tried. I've been a good girl all my life, but it seemed the forces of the universe ganged up to make my life miserable.

Even the moon goddess deserted me.

“I didn’t do anything wrong! I just couldn’t do what he said and yet you silly moon goddess didn’t touch his heart. What the hell do you think I am praying to you for? Or have you forgotten your job?!” I yelled angrily, my eyes were in the direction of the sky, hoping the Moon goddess would hear my cries.

Tears blinded my vision as I continued to drag my feet across the road.

A sharp ache throbbed in my head and my stomach rumbled in hunger.

As if it wasn't enough, the rain intensified, soaking my dress.

“Stupid rain!” I said again, I seriously needed to transfer my aggression on something or someone.

I was frustrated. I hated my life, I hated the Moon goddess!

As I stepped off the curb to close the road, I heard a loud voice that jerked me back to reality.

“Watch out!”

My eyes grew wide, almost popping out of their sockets as a loud gasp tore off my lips.

I clutched my hand on my chest before letting out a deafening scream.

It happened so fast that I froze. It was like some invisible forces glued my legs to the floor.

My head went blank and it was as if time stood still.

The last thing I heard were loud screeching tyres before I fell on the wet tarred road, shielding my face with my palms.

My body trembled greatly and my heart would stop racing.

Was I dead?

“Oh my goodness, are you okay?” A strange man’s baritone voice filled my ears.

“We are so sorry ma’am, are you alright?” he spoke out again, jumping out of his car. I could feel his heavy boots thumping against the ground.

Was I right to cross at that particular time? Or am I in a dream?

I couldn't stop the questions that streamed down in my head.

Then someone touched me with his cold hands which made me shiver. He lifted me up carefully, worry written all over his face.

“Hi, please pardon my friend’s driving. He was carried away. He didn't see you coming.” The man who had brown hair said softly but the driver didn’t say anything to me.

Sadness was written all over his face.

Strangely, I couldn't take my eyes off the driver. There was an unusual feeling that enveloped me. My heart raced and my palm turned cold.

The top of my eyes, twitching non stop.

It was something I had never felt before, especially after an accident.

What was happening to me?

I struggled to know what it was but it was rather distinct rather than familiar.

“I’m fine.” My voice came out barely above a whisper as I examined my body for any scratch.

Luckily, I wasn't hurt.

"Wait, hold on. In case you have any medical complications, call me!” He suggested looking around for something but unfortunately he couldn’t find it.

“No, thank you.” I shook my head, looking to the ground in shame. The strange guy was nice.

It was my fault.

If I wasn't drowning in self-pity, this wouldn't have happened.

“You must have it. I insist." His voice was stern this time. He shoved the small card to my direction, staring deeply into my eyes as he watched me debate whether to take it or not.

“Raphael, she said she is fine!” The driver finally spoke and his voice worsened my condition.

His voice sent shivers down my spine and I felt my body shudder.

I nearly forgot how to breathe.

“Do you have your card with you? If you do please don’t hesitate to give it to her,” he ordered, looking at the driver with his side eye.

Wearing an obvious frown on his face, he slid his hand into his pockets and brought out a card, walked towards me and placed it on my hand.

There was something about him that screamed authority and power.

He didn't need to debate with me to take the card like his friend did, he simply shoved it in my hand with an air of finality.

As soon as his fingers touched me, I felt my blood run cold.

My heart hammered against my chest and a strange spark ignited all over my body.

Maybe I was overthinking.

While he turned to leave with his friend, I yelled, “ If you really want to help me then you could offer me a job!” My words spilled out in a rush before I could control myself.

"I badly need a job right now." I swallowed the tears that threatened to spill down my eyes as I watched them with hope rising in my heart.

“Take, my number,” I added, moving quickly to them.

Rapheal turned around hurriedly, smiled weakly and replied, “ I’ll think about it. But don't get your hopes high.”

"Thank you," I mouthed before watching them disappear into the car.

The next I heard was a horn from Rapheal friend which meant that I should leave immediately.

While they drove off, everything I was feeling suddenly stopped and I was back to my normal self.

Maybe this was a sign from the Moon goddess.

After a few steps I reached my house and collapsed on my bed tiredly.

********

I jerked up as raindrops pattered against my forehead, covering my nose with my hand. I could not endure the awful stench that lingered in my room.

It must be from the kitchen.

I yawned tiredly before rolling to the other side of the bed. As I turned, my gaze met the two empty beds beside mine. Tears, swelling in my eyes while I thought of who they belonged to.

I wished I could just close my eyes and everything would just disappear. The flies that won’t stop roaming about, my leaking ceiling, my worn out curtains, my torn table and chairs. Every fucking thing!

I missed my old life where I was the daughter of a wealthy millionaire.

I was about to get lost in thoughts when a loud ring of my phone pierced my ears.

My heart sank into a bottomless abyss when I read the text message.

'You are fired!'

Great!

My boss fired me for refusing to sleep with him. How shameless!

As if it wasn't enough he withheld my payment.

He derived pleasure in frustrating me, thinking I would give in to his advances.

I was done pleading. To hell with him.

But how was I expected to pay for my mother and sister's chemotherapy?

I had barely dropped my phone when it rang again.

My face dropped in sadness as I let out a worried sigh.

The doctor's call meant something bad was about to happen.

"Hello." My voice shook in fear as I gulped down the lump in my throat.

"Why are you not here yet?"

"I..." I stammered, unable to think of an excuse and anxiety ate me up.

"Is everything..." I tried to ask but he interrupted.

"Get to the hospital now. Your mother is having some complications right now and we notice one of her kidneys is failing. Also, you haven't sent a deposit for the chemotherapy of your mother and sister. You are wasting time," he complained. I could feel his frustrations.

"I am trying, doctor, I..." I broke down in tears.

"You need to be in the hospital within 30 minutes or I'm afraid your mother won't make it," he dropped the bombshell.

I left his room and walked downstairs, and relief coursed through me when I saw him playing with Liam and my sister while Anna prepared lunch. A smile formed on my face as I saw him fully in his fatherly role. Walking to disrupt their conversation, I hugged him from behind, kissing his cheeks before dropping on his lap. “I didn't want to wake you after what happened last night.” He said, hugging me. “I'm fine. I'm trying to forget about it,” I responded before walking over to Rose and Liam, who sat opposite us. “How are you guys doing?” “Dad was just telling us how he killed 10 men at once when you got attacked, although he got stabbed when you distracted him,” Liam said while I exchanged looks with Alpha Casper, shaking my head. “You are making them more traumatized.”“We wanted to hear it,” Rise chipped in.”It was too good to be true.
