Bright sky. The sounds of children playing around the pack house.
I smiled, the gentle breeze fluttering through my hair. Today was going to be perfect. “Luna, the chefs have made the sample for today's dinner,” Diana, the head chef, informed me. I stood from my balcony seat. “Alright. Let us go.” From the top of the stairs, I could hear the bustling downstairs. “Good morning, Luna,” the maids and chefs chorused as I entered the kitchen. “Good morning. These look wonderful,” I said, gesturing to the two long tables filled with dessert. “You made sure the cookies were–” “Vanilla flavoured. As little sugar as possible,” Diana and two other chefs chorused. “Just like Alpha likes.” I flushed, trying to figure out the number of times I had said those words that they would know them by heart. “G-Good to know.” Reaching for the nearest cupcake, I took a bite, moaning as it melted in my mouth. “This is amazing.” “Would Alpha like it?” one of the maids asked. Another one slapped her arm. “Of course he would. No one knows him better than Luna Elara.” “I hope so,” I muttered. Maybe I would finally tell him how I feel after all these years. “I trust your judgment on the rest,” I said, setting down the rest of the cupcake. “I have other things to attend to.” I was barely out of the kitchen before the decorators were whisking me away to the ballroom. It was hours later that I was able to get away. I hid behind the pack house to catch my breath. “What are you doing?” My feet rooted to the ground. Oh no. I looked like a hot mess. I turned my head, a nervous smile on my lips. “Asher, I did not see you there.” He was leaning against the wall with an amused smirk on his face. “Why do you look like you just ran a marathon?” My head slacked against the wall. “If someone helped me with the last-minute checks, I would not look like this.” “Oh, come on. You know I was busy. I was looking for you so we could go put on our outfits.” Yeah, he was an alpha. He did not have the time for small errands. “Sorry. I should not have said that,” I apologized. Asher stepped closer to me and grabbed my hand, leading me inside the house. Instantly, my heart started to pound. Sure, we were married, but for most of our years together, we had just been friends who slept together. “Asher, our fifth anniversary is coming up in a few weeks,” I said. He glanced down at me. “Yeah. Why?” “I was wondering if you had anywhere in mind to go.” Asher hummed, brushing the back of my hand with his thumb. “Not really. I'm fine with anywhere you pick.” My eyes fell. “Oh. Did you get me something already?” His face lit up with a beautiful grin. “That is a secret, Elara.” My meeting Asher was a stroke of luck. His proposing to me was a full-blown miracle. What Alpha in his right mind would think that an orphan juggling jobs just to stay alive would be a good match for him? “I do not know if I have said this before but I'm glad my college scholarship was revoked.” Asher had a weird look on his face. “Why in goddess’ name would you be glad about that?” “Because if I had that scholarship, I would not have applied for the cleaning job at the company and we would not have met.” He chuckled. “That is one way to think about things…but I guess that is true.” Asher was from a long line of strong Alphas and I was a wandering wolf, trying to fit in amongst humans. We were from two different worlds. At the doors to the twin dressing rooms, Asher let go of my hand. “Try to be down before the food gets cold,” he teased. I sighed dramatically. “I'll try.” Asher entered his dressing room first. I swung open my door. “You little eavesdropping rats.” Tracy sat on the floor, rubbing her forehead. “You two are just so cute together. When do you plan on telling him?” I started to strip for a quick shower. “At the party…I think. I don't want it to be weird between us after.” Her nose scrunched up. “Why would it be weird?” “What if he does not return my feelings?” “What is the worst that could happen? You are married,” she stressed. “But forget all that now. We do not have time.” She all but shoved me in the shower. “Let's make you so beautiful that he cannot resist you tonight.” *Two hours later* “This is not the dress I remember trying on,” I said, twirling in front of the mirror. What I had decided on was a green dress. This was gold. Tracy adjusted the flowers on the hem of my dress. “It does not matter, does it? You barely care about what you wear.” “But Asher's tie–” “It is gold as well, Luna.” She stood and held my shoulders. “Luna, we got you. Go get your man.” I trailed my fingers down the corset, feeling how firm the fabric hugged my waist. It was a really beautiful dress. I wondered if Asher would think the same. There was a knock on the door. “Luna, it is almost time for the first dance,” a guard said from outside. I took in a deep breath and walked to the door, heading straight for the double doors at the end of the hall. Asher must be down there already. “Now announcing, Luna Elara Blackwood,” the guard outside the door said before opening the doors to the ballroom. I stepped into the room, scanning the crowd until my eyes found Asher's. There was a small smile on his face as he watched me come down the stairs. Right on the last one, I tripped and fell into his arms. This is it. I should tell him now. “Asher, I want to tell you–” The main doors burst open, interrupting what I was about to say. All eyes turned to the woman who stepped through the doors. All eyes, including Asher's.Elara’s POVEleven months laterWe gathered around the coffee table, singing happy birthday to Leo's triplets as they turned one. Before the song was even over, Ronan was reaching to put his fist into the cake.Lenora removed his hand and he accidentally fell to his butt and burst into tears. Lenora did not care, continuing to scold him in baby gibberish.Richard, the other boy was asleep on the couch, letting out little snores. Yes, asleep as were singing the happy birthday song for him.He could never stay awake for longer than he needs to.“Blow out your candles,” Rosalyn said, showing them the motion they needed to do. Ronan got to his feet and jumped on Leo instead, crying Papa.Lenora blew out the candles by herself before putting her hand inside the cake and carrying it to her mouth.Leo was beside me on the ground, weeping into my leg. “They are so grown now, walking and everything. I cannot believe they are one already.”I spotted his head, trying to catch some sleep. Lucas k
Elara’s POV“If you can stay over for the night, find a room and make yourself comfortable,” I said. “We will continue the hearing of the council tomorrow.”Someone raised their hands. “For those of us who cannot stay…I really want to hear till the end.”“Official correspondence will be delivered to every Alpha in the country, stating everyone that has been mentioned and will be mentioned.”“This is less of a hearing and more of a gist session,” Cain said to me as we walked deeper into the council building. It was a massive structure on way too much land. When they were gone, I would have to repurpose it and have an academy here instead. The least they could do after all they had done was to contribute to the lives of the next generation with their substance.“If they had not been so stupid earlier, I would not have thought of handling it this radically.”How dare they look me in the eyes and tell me to be their slave?“Sis, in all of these there is one matter that you have failed to
Elara’s POVKaden and I were chatting when the room started to fill with Alphas from all over the country who had dropped everything to be here.On the summon of the Elder Council, signed and stamped by Altman under Kaden’s very gentle compulsion. When they arrived and met us sitting on the table where the Elder Council should have been, a wave of murmurs swept through the crowd. But no one came forward to ask yet and neither did we give them any remarks until the room was as full as it needed to be.Cain walked in a while later. When he saw us, he threw his head back and groaned. “I just knew it was the two of you up to something again.”I jumped down from the table to go hug my brother. When was the last time I saw him?Since he moved back to start rebuilding Moon flame, he had been coming to visit less and less.“I missed you,” I muttered against his chest, my grip tightening around his body.Cain ran his fingers through my hair, his lips pressing to my forehead. “Sorry, everything
Elara’s POVTo my utmost surprise, the council brought the fight to us.Kaden laid in bed with me on his body as he read through the letter. Harry stood to the side, looking like this was the last place he would rather be.“So what do they expect from us?” Kaden asked, tossing the letter to the side.Harry’s face was a mix of discomfort and annoyance. “They want us to come for a roundtable negotiation so that Caelthorn and the Elder Council can reach a peaceful agreement.”“Inform that I have nothing to agree with them about and if they like, they can bring an army to our borders.”Kaden spoke about war so casually that it should have frightened me. I looked up at his face.He had gotten the piercings that I had happened to mention one time. “You’re so hot,” I whispered, pressing my lips to his.Kaden could not hide his smirk, his hands slipping underneath the bedsheet to cup my ass. “You think so?”A few words from me and he was already stiffening beneath me. Perhaps, it was the new
Elara's POV“Councilman,” Kaden hissed as we arrived at the border. He was carrying me on his back.I gave Donatello a nod, my head flopping back as I tried to fall back asleep. It was barely dawn and after all night of sex, Kaden had finally let me sleep.Only for us to be woken up that Donatello was at the border.“Is there a reason that this could not wait until a more godly hour of the day?” Kaden asked, his voice tight.Donatello looked at me on Kaden's back. “Is that any way to talk to a member of the Elder Council?”“The only reason I brought my mate out of bed is because you are who you say you are.” Donatello was already fuming then Kaden added. “Do not push your luck.”However, because the three of us were not alone, accompanied by warriors on both sides, Donatello could not lose his cool and embarrass himself.“What a show of disrespect,” Donatello scolded, waiting for an apology. When it did not come, his jaw tightened. “However, I did come for a more important reason.”“W
Elara's POV“This is your grand plan?” Kaden hissed behind the thicket of bushes we hid behind.I sent him a glare. “Do you have a better idea?”Kaden gestured to his dozens of warriors lying in wait behind us, waiting for his signal. If I gave the word, they would storm Dominic’s place and the Elder Council and have them dismantled before the sun was up.A hundred meters away, there was a rustle in the trees before Donatello came into view.“Sera,” he whispered.I half-expected him not to heed the note I sent him.I cleared my throat, hoping I sounded a bit more like Seraphina. “Don, I have missed you so much.”Donatello did not notice the difference in our voices as he whirled around, searching for me where I was speaking.“What is wrong, love? Why are you hiding?” His voice was frantic. “I never got back your word after the Blood Moon. I saw Elara a few days ago. She looked fine.”“The ritual went haywire,” I said. “I am on the run at the moment because Caelthorn has its warriors l
Ronan's POV“My apologies, sir, but we have not received any instructions to welcome you into the pack,” the guard at the Blackwood border repeated. One of my eyes twitched. I kept my voice level. It would not look very good if I grabbed him through the window and slammed his head into my car.“I h
Asher’s POV“You stupid child!” Father yelled as he threw a binder at my face.I dodged at the last second and it hit the coat rack behind me and clattered to the floor.“How could you be so useless to handle our affairs?!” he continued to yell as he had been for the past forty minutes.Mother stay
Kaden’s POV“Cain, where are the review documents from the orphanage?” I asked.Cain did not respond for a moment. I raised my head to see him with a look of discomfort on his face.“Those documents are not actually due for a week, Alpha,” he said. There was a brief pause. “Luna always brought her
Elara’s POVMy words settled heavily in the room.Seconds passed in silence, the hum of the air conditioner almost echoing off the mostly bare walls.Hilda pressed her palms flat on her knees. “Yes, Luna. We are mates.”Harry let out an irritated sigh. That was the first time I had seen his face no
