LOGINChapter 5
Eliana's P.O.V
“Is your daughter in this hospital?” the old lady asked, and I shook my head.
I explained everything to her, but obviously, she couldn't understand a word I was saying, because I was crying and speaking at the same time.
“It's okay,” she patted my back. “Just calm down and talk slowly, okay?” she said and handed me a handkerchief.
I nodded and wiped my tears, but they kept rolling down.
Minutes later, I had calmed down, and was finally able to speak coherently. “I'm worried about my daughter,” I started.
“The last time I saw her was before I left for work in the morning. On my way home, I caused an accident, and that was how I came to the hospital. I've been trying to call her but she's not picking up, and she hasn't even responded to the texts I sent her during the day.”
“How old is your daughter?” She asked.
“She's almost eighteen,” I responded.
“Oh dearie, just stay calm and take a deep breath. I'm sure your daughter is alright. You've been through a lot today, and it's understandable you're worried sick.
You couldn't have prevented the accident, and it's not your fault. Accidents happen, and you're lucky to be okay yourself.
Why don't you try to relax a bit? It's too late for you to go back home right now, so I'd advise you to stay till tomorrow. It's not safe for a young lady like you to be on the street by this time of the night. Besides, your daughter is old enough to take care of herself. You know kids — maybe her phone is on silent, and she didn't hear it ring. When she sees your calls, she'll definitely return the call.”
My tears kept rolling as she spoke, and I wiped them. The old lady made sense — Leah had a knack for putting her phone on silent at night.
“Okay,” I nodded.
“There now. I'll leave you to it—my daughter is in this hospital too. I'm spending the night with her,” she said.
I was surprised. She was too calm for someone whose daughter was in the hospital. “Is she alright?” I asked in concern.
Surprisingly, she chuckled. I lifted a brow in confusion, then she finally cleared the air, “She's fine, and very healthy. She put to bed a pair of pretty girls, and will be discharged tomorrow morning.”
“Oh, congratulations!” I smiled.
Just then, the doctor emerged from the ER.
I subconsciously stood up and rushed to the doctor, and the old lady followed behind.
“How is he?” I asked anxiously.
“He had a concussion, and is still unconscious, but overall, your husband is fine, ma'am,” he said and left.
“He's not my—” I wanted to explain, but didn't see the need to. “Forget it,” I muttered.
“I told you he'd be fine,” the woman said from behind me.
I turned to her with a smile. “Thank you ma'am, for your kind words,” I bowed respectfully.
“It's nothing, really. You must be exhausted, go get some rest,” she said and turned around, leaving.
I watched her retreating figure untill she was out of sight. I can't remember the last time I spoke to my mother, and this old lady made me feel like I was with my mother.
By the time the man was transferred to a regular ward, I was very sleepy, and ended up sleeping by the bedside.
When I woke up the next day, it was already 7:25 a.m. Oh no! I woke up late!
Well, my workplace isn't very far from the hospital, so I could leave for work immediately. Since I had a few clothes at my boss's place, I can change when I get there. I glanced at the man sleeping on the bed — I have to call his family.
“But first, I have to make sure Leah is alright,” I mumbled as I entered my call log.
The last call was from me to Leah the previous night. I was surprised at first that she didn't return my calls —she should've woken up by this time of the morning, and definitely she would've known that I didn't sleep at home last night. Though I'd sent her a text that I wouldn't be at home last night, she should've called this morning.
I dialed her number a couple of times, but she didn't respond…
What is going on? Definitely, she couldn't be asleep by this time of the morning. She was supposed to prepare for school early. Even at times when I would've woken up late, she'd be the one to wake me up.
I called repeatedly, my hand shaking frantically. Then suddenly, “the number you've dialed is switched off”.
My mind went blank, and I rushed to the door, walking as fast as I could, while dialing her number, but the only response I got was the automatic voice-over, “the number you've dialed is switched off.”
I quickly boarded a cab and went home. Throughout the ride, I couldn't sit still. I knew I could be fired for this, but nothing else mattered more than my daughter.
Getting home, I opened the door with my spare key, and entered.
“Leah? Are you home?” It was almost past nine by now, and she shouldn't be at home, but the fact that everything remained the way it was when we left home the previous morning puzzled me.
I ran upstairs to her room, calling out with my voice laced with fear and anxiety, “Leah? Leah?!”
I pushed her room door open, scanned the room, and to my surprise, Leah lay on the bed motionlessly.
I calmed down a bit, but the fact that she was still asleep by this time of a school day scared me.
“Leah…” I pulled back the covers, but was shocked that she was wearing her uniform which was meant for the previous day.
“You're still wearing your…” I paused when I touched her arm and felt her temperature. Even with the layer of her long sleeve clothing, I was able to feel her high temperature.
“Leah!” I yelled, panicking again.
She didn’t stir.
And for the first time since becoming a mother, I was afraid to touch her..
Chapter 39 Leah's P.O.V "Are you sick?" I heard him ask even before the door had fully opened."Leah?” It seemed he was expecting to see someone else, because surprise flashed across his face.“Why were you ringing the bell like that?" he asked, making way for me to come in."If I hadn't, would you have opened the door?" I asked, but not moving an inch. It was obvious I had no intention to go in. I was angry for no reason in particular… perhaps at everything? I wasn't sure."What? You came to my house just to talk at the door?" he asked.I reluctantly stepped in, and he closed the door behind him."This is the first time you're visiting, and you didn't inform me beforehand, so I didn't prepare anything. Is there anything you want? I'll go get it for you.""No need," I said a little too fast, and he paused."What's wrong?" he asked."I came here to talk," I said.He sat on the couch and casually draped an arm around my shoulders."About what?" he asked.I removed his hand from my sh
Chapter 38 Leah's P.O.V “Ouch!” Nora winced.“Are you okay?” I asked, instinctively taking her hand in mine. She looked at me with tearful eyes, not saying a word.Standing up straight, I said coldly, “You shouldn’t be here.”"I know, Leah," she said softly. "But... you have to help me. If our friendship meant anything to you, then please help me… just this once."I stared at her for a while, my heart slowly softening. This was Nora. We'd eaten together, slept in the same room, and gone to class side by side for months. She was literally my only friend in school. I wasn't that heartless to ignore her completely.“What do you want me to do?" I asked.“Are we going to talk over the door?” she asked, and that was when I realized that I didn't even invite her in.I hesitated slightly before stepping aside to let her in.Nora's P.O.VI was glad that Leah was finally willing to help.Once we sat down, she said flatly — “Go on.”She got straight to the point, not even offering me a glass o
Chapter 37 Nathan's P.O.VI raised my hand before I could stop myself, but was able to control myself from hitting her.Nora stared at me without blinking, as if she knew I couldn't hit her. I groaned in frustration, clenching my fist and getting up angrily.“Why are you so stupid?!” I shouted before storming out.I really needed some fresh air right now.— — —Sky's P.O.V I noticed that Leah didn't like this outing plan. No one could recognize that displeased look on her face better than me. I saw it almost every day during high school.I knew she wouldn't want me to speak on her behalf to Nora, so I said what I had to say and left.Nathan followed me out, and I paused in my tracks, looking at him in irritation."What's your problem?" I asked with a frown. No matter the situation, a guy should not be running after me like some prince pursuing a runaway princess."Sky, Nora didn't do anything wrong. I had planned all this, and I shouldn't have brought you here without telling you the
Chapter 36 Leah's P.O.V I hated how she always decided things for everyone else. It made me feel a sudden irritation, and I felt like storming out instantly."You think you can just set up an outing on your own? Did you even care if I was interested?" Sky said."I didn't mean to," Nora said, fixing her gaze on the floor."You guys have fun," Sky said and left. Nathan went after him."Alright, I'll get going too," I said.“Leah,” she said quickly, stepping forward, but not getting too close. So she also knew she overstepped her bounds.I stared at her blankly. Her eyes were misty, and I felt anything but sympathy."You're not mad at me, too… right?” she asked."You—""I had a reason!" she interrupted before I could make a complete sentence.Every time something happened, she somehow turned out to be the mastermind behind it.First it was Fiona and Yaya at the café, then shopping. I'm sure she had asked Nathan to bring me along to the pre-exam party, then the other day when I was avoid
Chapter 35Leah's P.O.VHis hand trailed down from my waist, down to my clit.“Already so wet for me, baby,” he said between the kiss.He bit my lip and I moaned, opening up and giving him more access in the process.Breaking the kiss, he moved on to place soft bites on my neck, while two of his fingers found their way inside me. He wasn't inside me yet, and I was already a moaning mess.“Please,” I begged.I wanted more, and it felt evil of him to tease me like this.“Tell me what you want,” he whispered by my ear, his fingers thrusting deeper and faster.“I want you,” I moaned.“Where?” he asked, his seductive voice igniting the fire in me even more.“With me… around me… in me…” I stuttered, unable to make a meaningful sentence. “...ahh!” my walls clenched around his fingers as I came undone.“Your body is so obedient,” he said and went between my legs, devouring every single drop of my juices.“You taste so good,” he said and kissed me once more, making me taste myself in his mouth
Chapter 34Leah's P.O.V If I had known Sky would be here, I never would have agreed to come.“Sky's here too?” I asked.“Yes. He's also sleeping over,” she replied.“You didn't mention it before now,” I folded my arms.“Since we're two couples, let's make it a movie night,” she announced, ignoring what I had just said.“On a Tuesday night?” Sky asked, raising an eyebrow.“Then we won't stay up late,” she said.I was speechless. Didn't she call me over to study together? What was this now?She deceived me. Since I've lied to her before, we're even. I'll let it slide. As much as I wanted to storm out and go back home, I didn't want to be the bad person here.“I'll go have a quick shower. Don't worry, I won't take long. It's Nathan who usually spends a long time in the shower.“No I don't,” he argued.“Yes, you do,” she said and ran to her room. Nathan also got up and went to his room.I tried my best to push the anger behind me and find how they always argued like children, funny.I su
