My eyes lit up upon seeing it. I had searched for this plant for years.

“What’s it called?” My father asked and I grinned. How would I begin to explain to him that this was the ultimate.

“Come on Rya,” he urged, handing a peach to me.

He had begun to call me Rya after I told him that I didn’t remember my name. It was for the best. I wanted to forget everything about my past life and I wanted him to be my father and so, I stuck to calling him father.

“Fairywand.”

He furrowed his brows. “That’s the actual name?”

I nodded. I had only ever heard of it. The last time I had seen one was when Zora had used it to heal the Alpha’s son. She had told me that it was the last one in the territory. She was wrong.

“I’ve never heard of such.”

I chuckled. “You don’t know anything other than wild animals, father.’

He made a mock sound of pain and I laughed.

It was already sundown and from how cloudy it was, I knew it was going to begin raining soon.

“We should go back home.”

He glanced at the sky as thunder rumbled. “It’s not fair that you found something, but I didn’t.”

I shrugged. “I’m always lucky.”

I placed my hand on my hair and smoothed down my wig. It’s been years since the incident that night and no matter what I did, the silver in my hair didn’t darken.  For some reason, I thought it was better to hide it from everyone.

My father had sent me to a human school to study medicine and I earned a scholarship and a name. Dr. Rya…

“Rya!”

My father’s voice startled me and I turned around.

He raised his hand and placed it on his lips. “Shh. Did you hear that?”

I stayed quiet and then I heard it. Faint at first and then clearly. It sounded as though it was going to be a huge animal.

I grinned and gave him a thumbs up. “Go for it,” I mouthed.

He aimed his shotgun and moved towards the sound, signaling to me to wait behind.

As soon as he was away from sight, I couldn’t hear anything and I furrowed my brows. It was unusual for the forest to be this quiet. Something was definitely wrong.

But my father was a good hunter. I had no cause for alarm.

Then I heard something. It was faint and almost as though I hadn’t heard anything. I heard it again, even more faint this time, but I was certain about what I heard.

It was a wolf. A wood howling out in pain…a sign that it needed help.

My father was going to kill it!

I stopped speaking as a very familiar smell enveloped my nose.

‘Blood?’ My thoughts came to an abrupt pause.

It was always a worry for me having my senses heightened.

The smell got stronger the closer I approached the animal.

I heard a low growl from its throat.

It weakly bared carnivorous teeth at me but it was in no condition to move, let alone run or come after me.

I got closer with measured steps and gasped not only at the size of the wolf but its fierce appearance. It was huge and magnificent. Its black fur contested with its own shadow.

A male, I noted.

He was barely holding onto life, with gruesome gashes covering his body from his head to his tail. The slashes oozed with green smoke, whatever he was cut with was smeared with poison. And silver to prevent self healing.

It was strange enough to find a wolf in this part of the forest; it was the first one I had seen in months. And it was strange to find it fatally wounded, hardly hanging on.

My eyes darted around and my father’s warning rang in my ears again.

‘Don’t treat just anybody.’

But I couldn’t just leave him here. He was going to die.

I heightened my scent, ensuring the space was safe and the perpetrator wasn't still lurking around. Assured that I could safely give it first aid, I located the worst-looking wound.

It looked like a ghastly puncture from a bullet, and just like the rest of the slashes, it was poisoned. It was located on his chest meaning that in no time, the poison would get to his heart.

I accessed the poison. I figured that it was a very rare species of wolfsbane… one that could only be healed by burning it out. I opened my bag and got to work.

“Can you hear me?” I whispered and when he didn’t make a sound, I lifted up the bag and as I brought it closer to the wound, I noticed his breath became more labored…

“Who did this to you?”  I asked as though he was going to answer me.

I couldn't burn him. Not when he was this weak. There was only one other way... even if it meant I would suffer his pain.

When I got my voice, something else came with it. A kind of healing power that made me able to heal people by placing my hands on them. The catch was that I was going to feel their pain.

“Who are you?” I asked no one in particular. I didn’t understand why the thought of him never waking up terrified me.

I placed my hands above its body and closed my eyes. This was the only way.

I felt my palm grow warmer under his fur and soon, I felt searing pain through my hands. It was low at first, but it intensified so much, I had to bite down on my lips. I didn't take my hands away and shut my eyes tighter to concentrate.

My head got lighter but once his breathing stabilized, I withdrew my arm.

His eyes glowed a fierce red as they suddenly stared at me, his soft eyes betraying affection.

It wasn't just a werewolf, it was an alpha! No wonder it was so huge.

But what was an Alpha doing in human land? This wasn’t a pack’s territory.

I retreated, still on my knees. He drew closer with a limp and placed his face close to mine ever so gently.

My heart, which threatened to break off my ribcage, calmed down, and as if it could tell, I felt his tongue slide over my face. He got on its hind limbs and like a faulty lamp, the glow in his eyes faded as he slumped, unconscious.

The words left my mouth before I realized what was happening.

“Mate…” I said in a low growl.

As I reached out to him, he reverted back to his human form.

  • Crowned In Vengeance   Chapter 283: Together

Rya's POVKael's words landed like a second blow, quieter than Aldric's fists had been but somehow worse.I watched him stand there, Aldric's beta, refusing the outcome the Grove itself had already recognized. Around him, Lycan warriors who had watched their king yield began shifting, some uncertain, some already siding with Kael's defiance. I understood, watching his face, that this wasn't ambition. He genuinely believed an Alpha beaten by anything other than raw strength wasn't fit to be followed, and that loyalty meant stepping in where his king had failed.Frost, still bleeding from the fight, straightened beside me anyway. "The terms were binding," he said. "Your king agreed to them before witnesses.""My king is no longer fit to set terms," Kael answered. "I act in his name."I felt the crowd's mood shift, felt how close we were to watching everything we'd just survived collapse into a second war within minutes of the first one ending. Kael had brought enough warriors with him

  • Crowned In Vengeance   Chapter 282: The Vision Broken

Rya's POVEver since Frost told the council he meant to challenge Aldric himself, the vision had been creeping back into my sleep, a little sharper each night. At first I told myself it was only the fear talking, the ordinary kind, the kind any mate would feel watching the person they loved walk toward something that could kill him. But fear didn't usually come with this much detail. It didn't usually show me the exact angle Aldric's final blow would land, or the exact moment Frost stopped getting back up. By the third night, I stopped pretending it was nothing. The vision came back the night before the fight, sharper than it had ever been.I was standing in the Sacred Grove again, watching Frost go down under Aldric's weight, watching the moment his strength finally ran out. I woke sweating, gasping, my left hand pressed against m chest while my hand already reaching for him before I was fully conscious, needing to feel that he was still there, still breathing, still warm beside m

  • Crowned In Vengeance   Chapter 281: The Gathering Storm

Frost's POVFor six nights now, since Rya started coming back to herself, I'd been having the same dream, the same handful of fears on repeat---losing my place as Alpha, losing her again, in some new way I hadn't prepared for, standing in front of the pack with nothing left to offer them. I never told her about any of it those first mornings. Old habit, maybe, or just not wanting to put weight on her while she was still finding her footing again. But six days of waking up with my heart pounding and saying nothing started to feel like exactly the kind of hiding we'd promised each other we were done with.So that morning, I told her about the dream first. We were lying in bed, early morning light just starting to come through the window, and I almost let the moment pass the way I used to. The old instinct was still there—keep it small, don't burden her. But we had promised each other something different now, so I made myself say it out loud."I dreamed I lost the Alpha position," I tol

  • Crowned In Vengeance   Chapter 280: The Harder Choice

Rya's POVThe first thing I noticed was the smell. Smoke, spilled wine, and underneath both, blood that hadn't happened yet but somehow already filled the air.I knew where I was before I opened my eyes. I didn't want to look. But the trial didn't care what I wanted, so I opened them anyway. The court. The well lit torches on the walls, the long table, faces I'd known for years — people I'd trusted, people I'd suspected, people I'd never really looked at closely because I'd been too busy surviving. None of them knew yet what was about to happen. Then I saw myself. Younger, colder, wearing the look I remembered from the inside—that sealed-off fury that I had felt, back then, like the most honest thing I had left. I watched her move through the room and I already knew every step, every outcome. I couldn't stop any of it.The trial made me watch closely. I saw a woman who seemed to have a foresight of what was goin to happen before anyone else and tried to run. She didn't make it.I had

  • Crowned In Vengeance   Chapter 279: The Anchor

Frost's POVWhat manner of monolith!I had heard stories of the Shadowmaw, the accounts of it being a primordial and eldritch presence that had a very pivotal influence on the balance of this earth. Yet none of them had adequately prepared me for the reality of standing in its presence—in the sheer ancientness of it. It occupied space in a way humans could not. Even the very air in the space felt limited, as though the entity itself was my sustenance. It regarded the both of us with something that was not quite an interest or indifference. "And you are not alone..." It spoke out of the shadows, referring to me. I was still searching for it—desperately, scanning the sky just to catch the tiniest glimpse of what it looked like. "But your reason for your sudden arrival concerns only you... not another""No!" I retorted, my voice sharper and fiercer than how it should have been. For a moment, I felt as though I must have angered it. But I had grown to expect the unexpected. "Whatever it

  • Crowned In Vengeance   Chapter 278: At the mouth of the abyss

Frost's POVNever had I depended and hoped on the severity of the mate bond the way I did at that moment. I was desperate, eager to find her. Whatever thing she thought she was doing, i had the strongest feel within me that it wouldn't end good. And it was high time I stopped relenting, and pushed for what I really wanted. I stood at the window of my study long after Lia had gone quiet behind me, and I closed my eyes and reached for the mate bond. I was deliberate, intentional, calm, all to reach her. In a moment, I felt her. I found her. She was there, distant, but feeling her made me feel lightened. Without hesitation, I moved out from the SilverFang with Lia, Oscar, and Sera. I simply followed the thread of her through the bond the way I had always followed my instincts. She was at the Ashen wastes, the very place she had gone a few weeks back to confront the Shadowmaw. Did she intend to do it for the second time? Oh Rya!The land here had a particular quality of exhaustion, as

  • Crowned In Vengeance   Chapter 54: Whispers of Treachery

Rya POV I always knew Frost to be somebody who was always free with me and sometimes tried to always make me laugh. I could recount all the times he went out of his way to make me happy. But now, the way he spoke to me, the way he said these warnings, I could tell he was being so damn serious. I

  • Crowned In Vengeance   Chapter 33 : Trouble in red

"What do you mean by that?" I asked with half sleepy eyes, half clear eyes. The last I remembered, my team members reported to me after their periodic check ups that the patients were doing fine and healing just fine.So the sudden ill news caught me unaware. When my eyes cleared up enough to see

Just as Lia was leaving, Frost entered with the same pace she had used to come in.His unsteady breath was proof that he was running from where he was coming from."Rya, we need your help. The pack is under attack by a deadly illness!" He announced. Panic etched in his voice."I don't understand...

  • Crowned In Vengeance   Chapter 26 : Ultimatum

I felt a warm liquid that had a metallic taste in my mouth. I was bleeding."Nice slap. Your hand is quite sturdy than I expected." I remarked with a smile and her forehead creased with confusion at my reaction."You fucking bitch! What are you up to huh? What game are you playing?" Her eyes darted
