My heart involuntarily started beating faster as I drew closer to where I had found my ma– the strange wolf.

“I hope he's still there. His naked incredible physique…” I muttered shamelessly, feeling my face burn up.

I had covered him with what I could find, else any other  female wolf in the area would lose their mind, although I was certain that there was no other wolf around.

I had left him alone to go find father. I didn’t know how he was going to feel about me taking a wolf home. I knew nothing about him and taking him back home could still be dangerous.

I hadn’t taken more than three steps before my sensitive ears picked up the sounds of his slow but steady heartbeat.

I turned around and  saw his unconscious figure lying faced up, just the way I had left him.

I got to work immediately. pounding, squeezing, and mixing different leaves and roots masterfully to produce a potion that could temporarily neutralize the effect of whatever poison he had come in contact with.

“There is only so much the piece of cloth I tied above your wounds would do. It was a matter of time before the poison got to your heart.” I muttered, fast and careful with the process.

“Ngh…” I heard a weak moan. My eyes suddenly diverted back to him as alarm bells rang in my head.

‘What is he thinking trying to get up? How could he even be awake right now!’ I screamed in my head as I rushed towards him, gently pushing his back to his lying position.

“Hey, listen to me, sir,” I said, almost in a whisper, my voice quivering. “Relax and don't try to get up, okay? You can hurt yourself if you decide to move some more…”

I wasn't sure if it was because he heard me but his body became still.

Too still, I had to check for his pulse again.

‘He’s still in danger…’ I muttered deeply, my chest heaving.

The clock was against me, so I rushed back to continue with his drugs. It took me everything to maintain my composure as I prepared.

As a little clear liquid started to appear in the mixture, I smiled, grinding the herbs more vigorously this time.

It was a sign that the medicine would be ready soon.

‘Done!’ I let out a breath I didn't realize I was holding, as my shoulders relaxed.

Looking at the jelly-like texture of it, anyone would be unimpressed, but I knew this nine-herb recipe of mine would have this man ready to help himself to my home in no time.

“Hey, I'll just…” I loosened the bandage as my nose twitched at the sight and stench. Burning the poison at the surface after I took his pain clearly did little about the damage.

The black veins running up his wounds were a testament that the deadly infection and rot still lived rent-free in his body.

“Well, not for long…” I thought aloud and began applying. I was generous with the remedy for each injury.

His veins bulged, I could hear the grinding of his teeth from where I stood. Objectively I could say…

“It looks painful enough for him. It should be working…”

Seconds turned to minutes and minutes. He had stopped wriggling in pain, and I knew it was time to get home.

“Hey, can you hear me?” I called out to him, observing cold fumes escape my lips.

‘Yeah, we definitely need to go…’

The temperature in the forest was dropping fast as it approached nighttime. I could hear a distant howl which only made me work faster in trying to get him up.

“Rya?”

Finally! Father!

I turned to him and saw that  his eyes had moved to the almost naked man on the ground.

“Uhm,” I didn’t want to tell him that it was my mate. “That’s…” I didn’t even know his name. “He’s injured. We have to help him.”

“I told you. No wolves!”

I let out a deep sigh. He never told me the reason for such rules.

“Please…”

We both turned to see that it was the wolf. He was standing now, but he still looked so weak and I felt even worse, knowing that he was my mate.

“Father, please. Let’s just..I can’t just leave him.”

It took a while before he finally agreed and helped carry him home.

As soon as we got home, I went to work immediately. For the antidote to work, he had to eat.

I thought about him while I cooked and as soon as I was done, I went to my father's room where he was. Father wanted to know more about him and why he was in the woods.

I was about to knock when I heard something that made me stop.

“…..renowned for her healing abilities. Dr. Rya Velas.”

He was talking about me! I heard my father speak, but I couldn’t hear what he said.

I pressed my ear to the door.

“….need to save my father. Only she can do that.”

He sounded like he was sad. He must really want to meet me and he must’ve come from far away.

“But you wouldn’t tell me who you really are! I’m sorry. I can’t help you.” Father blurted out.

My heart raced. My mate needed me. And for some reason, his voice was familiar!

I burst into the room  and gasped. My skin prickled with goosebumps and not for the right reasons.

My father was speaking, but my attention had switched.  It was now on those eyes. Those same shades of blue I had seen on that day.

“W-what Pack do you belong to and why are you here? How did you end up so injured?” My questions came in quick succession, much to my own surprise as well.

I took a measured step backward, though it was close to impossible for the strange man to miraculously launch at me.

I felt him spare me a glance through the ghostly moonlight that escaped the cracks in my house.

His breathing was still labored, and he was visibly struggling to answer...

Turning his head as the moonlight catches his face. I froze.

"Silverfang!" Arthur whispered in the dark. His voice was cold.

I felt my whole world coming apart.

I staggered back, my back pressed against the wall as memories flooded my mind.

My eyes met his cold ones that had looked down on me from his throne on the day I was unjustly sentenced to death.

My insides overturned as I mumbled beneath my breath…

“Frost? The Crowned Prince?!”

The same person I had been accused of poisoning, the same person I swore to the goddess to kill for taking my position as the Duskborn heir.

  • Crowned In Vengeance   Chapter 283: Together

Rya's POVKael's words landed like a second blow, quieter than Aldric's fists had been but somehow worse.I watched him stand there, Aldric's beta, refusing the outcome the Grove itself had already recognized. Around him, Lycan warriors who had watched their king yield began shifting, some uncertain, some already siding with Kael's defiance. I understood, watching his face, that this wasn't ambition. He genuinely believed an Alpha beaten by anything other than raw strength wasn't fit to be followed, and that loyalty meant stepping in where his king had failed.Frost, still bleeding from the fight, straightened beside me anyway. "The terms were binding," he said. "Your king agreed to them before witnesses.""My king is no longer fit to set terms," Kael answered. "I act in his name."I felt the crowd's mood shift, felt how close we were to watching everything we'd just survived collapse into a second war within minutes of the first one ending. Kael had brought enough warriors with him

  • Crowned In Vengeance   Chapter 282: The Vision Broken

Rya's POVEver since Frost told the council he meant to challenge Aldric himself, the vision had been creeping back into my sleep, a little sharper each night. At first I told myself it was only the fear talking, the ordinary kind, the kind any mate would feel watching the person they loved walk toward something that could kill him. But fear didn't usually come with this much detail. It didn't usually show me the exact angle Aldric's final blow would land, or the exact moment Frost stopped getting back up. By the third night, I stopped pretending it was nothing. The vision came back the night before the fight, sharper than it had ever been.I was standing in the Sacred Grove again, watching Frost go down under Aldric's weight, watching the moment his strength finally ran out. I woke sweating, gasping, my left hand pressed against m chest while my hand already reaching for him before I was fully conscious, needing to feel that he was still there, still breathing, still warm beside m

  • Crowned In Vengeance   Chapter 281: The Gathering Storm

Frost's POVFor six nights now, since Rya started coming back to herself, I'd been having the same dream, the same handful of fears on repeat---losing my place as Alpha, losing her again, in some new way I hadn't prepared for, standing in front of the pack with nothing left to offer them. I never told her about any of it those first mornings. Old habit, maybe, or just not wanting to put weight on her while she was still finding her footing again. But six days of waking up with my heart pounding and saying nothing started to feel like exactly the kind of hiding we'd promised each other we were done with.So that morning, I told her about the dream first. We were lying in bed, early morning light just starting to come through the window, and I almost let the moment pass the way I used to. The old instinct was still there—keep it small, don't burden her. But we had promised each other something different now, so I made myself say it out loud."I dreamed I lost the Alpha position," I tol

  • Crowned In Vengeance   Chapter 280: The Harder Choice

Rya's POVThe first thing I noticed was the smell. Smoke, spilled wine, and underneath both, blood that hadn't happened yet but somehow already filled the air.I knew where I was before I opened my eyes. I didn't want to look. But the trial didn't care what I wanted, so I opened them anyway. The court. The well lit torches on the walls, the long table, faces I'd known for years — people I'd trusted, people I'd suspected, people I'd never really looked at closely because I'd been too busy surviving. None of them knew yet what was about to happen. Then I saw myself. Younger, colder, wearing the look I remembered from the inside—that sealed-off fury that I had felt, back then, like the most honest thing I had left. I watched her move through the room and I already knew every step, every outcome. I couldn't stop any of it.The trial made me watch closely. I saw a woman who seemed to have a foresight of what was goin to happen before anyone else and tried to run. She didn't make it.I had

  • Crowned In Vengeance   Chapter 279: The Anchor

Frost's POVWhat manner of monolith!I had heard stories of the Shadowmaw, the accounts of it being a primordial and eldritch presence that had a very pivotal influence on the balance of this earth. Yet none of them had adequately prepared me for the reality of standing in its presence—in the sheer ancientness of it. It occupied space in a way humans could not. Even the very air in the space felt limited, as though the entity itself was my sustenance. It regarded the both of us with something that was not quite an interest or indifference. "And you are not alone..." It spoke out of the shadows, referring to me. I was still searching for it—desperately, scanning the sky just to catch the tiniest glimpse of what it looked like. "But your reason for your sudden arrival concerns only you... not another""No!" I retorted, my voice sharper and fiercer than how it should have been. For a moment, I felt as though I must have angered it. But I had grown to expect the unexpected. "Whatever it

  • Crowned In Vengeance   Chapter 278: At the mouth of the abyss

Frost's POVNever had I depended and hoped on the severity of the mate bond the way I did at that moment. I was desperate, eager to find her. Whatever thing she thought she was doing, i had the strongest feel within me that it wouldn't end good. And it was high time I stopped relenting, and pushed for what I really wanted. I stood at the window of my study long after Lia had gone quiet behind me, and I closed my eyes and reached for the mate bond. I was deliberate, intentional, calm, all to reach her. In a moment, I felt her. I found her. She was there, distant, but feeling her made me feel lightened. Without hesitation, I moved out from the SilverFang with Lia, Oscar, and Sera. I simply followed the thread of her through the bond the way I had always followed my instincts. She was at the Ashen wastes, the very place she had gone a few weeks back to confront the Shadowmaw. Did she intend to do it for the second time? Oh Rya!The land here had a particular quality of exhaustion, as

  • Crowned In Vengeance   Chapter 105: The Lies we tell

Rya's POV For very good reasons, I had my ways of knowing things before they happened. It wasn't based on luck, or what others might tag as a supernatural gift. I was careful... always studying moves, taking notice of the slightest things which were off balance. I had kept good tabs on everyone w
