View MoreI stood with widened eyes at the shocking sight before me. My body was shaking and my lips quivered as I stared at the body laying on the ground. Blood dripped from my fingers where the dagger was still lightly within my grasp. Drops of blood fell to the ground, landing on the lifeless body that sent continuous shivers through my spine.
I had killed him. The man lying before me was dead. I shuddered at the realization of it. I was a murderer. There was definitely no difference now between me and the person who had killed my father. Suddenly, I felt a sharp pain pierce through my arm. I froze, then I coughed, spilling out blood from my mouth. I looked up to the person in front of me, his face expressing a plain reaction. Then I looked at my arm where the pain was coming from. It was bleeding profusely. My heart raced. I had been shot. Was this how my life was going to end? I asked myself. Before I could answer, I began to feel dizzy. My eyes were turning and my feet were no longer steady on the ground. When I took a step back, I found myself approaching the ground. My body hit the floor, and I found myself lying next to the man I had just killed. My eyes closed slowly. I could not keep them open as my body grew weak. This was the end. The end of it all. As they were about to finally shut close, I noticed a pair of red shoes walk towards me. I could recognize that pair from anywhere, but I could not do anything because at that moment, I became unconscious and my heart stopped racing. *** EMILY'S POV I woke up with a start. I had just experienced another nightmare. The same one I was used to ever since the tragic death of my parents. As I sat up from the bed and stared blankly at the wall, trying to figure out a clue from the dream, one that could reveal the real cause of my parent's death. For years, I had searched for this person, but to no avail. Not until, the man I referred to as my boss and lover– There was a knock. I averted my gaze to the door. “Come in.” I said as I quickly shook my head to relieve myself from another thought. A lady almost around my age walked in. “Salvatore requires your presence.” she told me. “I'll be there.” I told her as she walked out. Then with a smile, I got out of bed and entered the bathroom. A few minutes later, I knocked on the boss’ door. When I entered, I walked straight to where he was seated on the couch situated in the broad living room. He gestured for me to sit on his lap and when I did, his hands wrapped around my waist and he buried his face in my neck. I smiled as I felt his breath on my neck. “You smell like roses.” he complimented, “I can stay all day like this.” he added. When he finally sat back alright, I turned to look at him, noting his chiseled jaws, his sculptured face and dark eyes. Then my eyes went to his neck where the tattoo was, it was nothing much, just an imprint of a skull, the symbol of him being a Mafia Boss. I could recall seeing that tattoo when I was young, that had scared the hell out of me. But after coming to know him and getting closer to him, I felt more at ease at seeing it. “You sent for me.” I said as I ran my fingers through his face and down to his neck. “Dante Moretti would be visiting the clubhouse tonight.” I paused and removed my hands from his neck. “I know how much you want to avenge your parents, and I tell you, this is the best time to do it. When he least expects it.” My boss pressed on when he noticed my expression. “Why me? There are other men, or ladies, if that is what you prefer. Why do I have to be the one to walk this path?” I asked him. Salvatore sighed. He does that whenever someone finds it hard to understand? “You are in the best spot for this. I have trained you well, and best still, you have the nerve to attract any kind of person, including him.” I scoffed. “He will kill me before I get to him.” I said. That was obviously true. The feared Dante, leader of the Mafia and a popularly known Mafia Lord was bound to shatter me into pieces and have me killed. I had heard about him, and what he did to people. There had been nothing nice from those stories. “Have you forgotten he is the one behind your parents death?” the man asked me. I clenched her jaws. Of course, I knew. However, I could not bring myself to confront this man. “I am just scared. What if he kills me? What if he decapitates my arms and legs and throws me out into the street? I have heard stories even worse than that.” I complained. “He will do no such thing to you. I have my place in the Mafia society and Dante will not dare to raise a hand on you.” he assured me. I sighed. My boss seemed so certain, but his response did not sit well with me. “This is your chance. You have nothing else to do than seduce him. And after he falls for it, things become easier.” he explained. I could not believe that my boss was actually urging me to seduce a dangerous man. He had been the only man I had ever loved, so how was I going to carry this mission out? I had been training my whole life for this moment, but now it has presented itself, I was nervous. Salvatore snuck his nostrils in my hair as he ran his hand around my body. “You are stronger than I think, Emily. I have trained you and watched you grow. Since you want this revenge, I'll make sure to help you out.” he assured me. I nodded slowly. I knew what I was capable of doing. I had accomplished missions of sorts, but no one was near to what I was about to do. When I recalled my parents' death and how they had laid lifeless before me, I took a deep breath and clenched my fists. I needed to do this. I had to do this. “I'll do it. I will kill Dante.” I told him. Maybe killing him will stop the frequent nightmares. My boss smirked. “Now, that is my girl.”EMILY'S POV When I heard the door closed, I felt hot tears slip out of my eyes. I opened them slowly, the tears obstructing my sight. The only glimpse of him I could catch was the sight of his back disappearing through the closing door. I felt pained over all that had happened, even the thought of Salvatore still pierced my heart. My whole life had been a lie. I had been living on lies. That was worse than I could ever expect. Now Salvatore was dead. My parents were no more. But I was not dead. So I had to fend for myself, to build myself again. From scratch. The doctor came later and proclaimed it a miracle that I was awake. He said he had never seen such a thing before. Then I was kept on supervision until I recovered fully. A few weeks later, I was discharged. My bills had been paid and everything had been settled by Dante. The doctor did not say specifically that he was the one, but somehow I had a feeling it was him. Whenever I recalled his story, I came to the conclus
DANTE'S POV As I sat by the hospital bed, I could not help but stare at what used to be a daring face now filled with innocence. It had been months since she was shot, months since everything happened, and months since she fell into a coma. The doctor had told me she was between life and death with the highest probability being death. When I heard the news, I felt something breaking inside me. Not that I was feeling any weird feelings towards her, but because she had been through a lot. She did not deserve all of that, but she had experienced it all. So with pity, an emotion I should never exhibit, I paid her a visit and resorted to telling her how it all came to this, unsure of if she was conscious or not. *** (FLASHBACK) I had just turned eighteen when my father, as usual, ordered me and Salvatore, my step brother, to raid the house of his debtor. It was said that the debtor's wife had borrowed a loan from Luciano Moretti, my father, to help settle her husband's medical bi
EMILY'S POV FLASHBACK (Thirteen years ago) I was just twelve when it all happened. I was naive with no knowledge of what was going on except the fact that everyone was running helter-skelter. My mom carried me in her arms, I could feel her heart beating fast, in fact her whole body shivered. When I began to hear gunshots, I knew something had happened. Just then, my mom stopped, she began to move backwards, her head shaking in refusal as she held my head from turning to see. We ended up getting thrown out by a group of strange men to where my father was with a pistol in hand. The look on his face was terrifying, but when he saw me, I noticed a hint of fear. Whatever they were saying made no sense to me, I could not understand anything, however, it was clear that they had a heated argument going on. Then I heard my mother saying she would not go anywhere without her husband. At that minute, she let go of me and pulled out a nylon hidden beneath her clothes. Then I saw her do
SALVATORE'S POV When Marco told me Dante and his men had barged into the building killing anyone that obstructed their path, I was furious. I was not expecting him to come in the middle of the night. Now I was certain he really wanted a fight. I turned to Emily whose hand rested briefly atop my shoulder. I told her Dante was around and observed the worried expression on her face. Where was the fierce Emily I was used to? Was she scared that I would be killed? I scoffed in my mind. Dante should know better than to kill me. “Stay here and don't come out. I wouldn't want Dante to set his eyes on you.” I told her. Emily shook her head in refusal. She did not want me to go all by myself. “Look, here is the thing. You are the only vulnerable person to me. If Dante gets hold of you, I'll be forced to surrender.” I explained to her. This time I think she got the message because I noticed a slight nod as she faced the ground. With a smile, I took my gun, uncocked it and went
EMILY'S POV A few weeks had passed since I began working for Dante. His sight disgusts me but I had to answer his calls, unless I wanted my head separated from my body.Dante made sure I was always with him, serving him or the sexy ladies who appeased him sexually. I would watch them rub his body
DANTE'S POV When my men assembled in the room, I mapped out a strategy to get Salvatore. It was not going to be an easy one seeing that my rival must have been preparing too, but I know my men's experience would make it far easier. When the instructions had been dished out, I let out a smirk and p
EMILY'S POV I was scared. My heart was thudding within my chest. I could not control it or even stop this feeling if I wanted to.In a few days, Dante would attack Salvatore and I am pretty sure my boss knows nothing about the impending danger. Worst still, his spy has been held captive and the id
EMILY'S POVI opened my eyes and looked around the dusty room. The air choked me as the coldness seeped slowly into my almost bare skin. It was a dark and strange place with chains protruding out of the black walls. The same type of heavy chain that closed around my wrists, holding me in place. Th
