Mag-log inEMILY'S POV
As I was pulled into a dark room, I felt the men move me forward to where Dante stood. He faced the window that overlooked the dark surrounding with a hand in his pockets. As I tried steadying myself from being pulled around, I heard the door close. I was now alone with Dante. There was silence. An eerie one that filled the room. And when he turned, I almost had my heart in my mouth. He gazed at me for a while, then took two strides to where I stood. I saw it as an opportunity to approach him. After all, I was here for my job apart from the mission I had already. I trailed my hand on his shirt, toying with the buttons. I was not sure if he liked it, but that was not my concern, he had ordered for me. “Who sent you?” the man asked. My heart skipped a beat. The question was too direct and not what I had been expecting. “Sent me?” I chuckled lightly. “I am just a worker whose job is to appease men.” Dante's face hardened. “I know a lie when I hear one.” he said as he caught my hands before I could undo one of his buttons. I flinched and stared at him. “What is your name?” “Emily.” I blurted out. “You are not like the rest.” he told me as he ran his fingers through my hair. “And what are the rest?.” I dared to ask. Dante smirked. An evil one. “Fearful. They possessed fear. You don't.” I felt relieved. He had not noticed a thing. Just then, his hand left my hair and went down to my boobs area. I smirked, but his hands did not stop there as expected. He ran it down to my tight short almost close to the holster. My eyes shone widely. The dagger. Suddenly, I perceived a waft of his cologne which I had not noticed earlier and I abruptly recalled the nightmare I was used to having. It all came back to me: father lying on the ground, with blood gushing out of his system and a knife piercing directly into his heart. My mother lay beside him, her mouth filled with foam as she was rendered dead. I had been there, a young girl of twelve, filled with pain of experiencing my parents’ death before me. It had been tragic. When I was brought back to reality, I fought the tears that threatened to fall out. I clenched my jaws tightly, fighting back the anger that was now engulfing my body. No, I thought to myself, I cannot let my anger overtake me and make me lose this chance. Salvatore had warned me against letting it control me. But now I couldn't do anything except take a deep breath. As I took a breath, I felt Dante's hand approaching the dagger. I held my breath and immediately spun away from him, releasing the dagger from where it hid and attacking his neck area. Dante stood unmoved. He only watched as he blade swiped past his neck. When I plunged the dagger towards him again, he held my hand and twisted it round, making me unable to render any more harm. I gasped from my failure. I have been caught and now it means something worse. “I face death threats everyday.” he told me in a nonchalant tone. “But none came from a lady.” I responded with a smirk. “You have nerves,” he said, then paused before continuing, “but you acted out of emotion.” How had he noticed that? Was that why he didn't flinch? Because he knew I would miss? “I am different.” I blurted out. I could not see his face since I backed him, but I knew he was amused at my action. Just then, I felt a hit on my neck. My body shook and I felt my eyes close. Dante let go of me and my body approached the floor in an instant. However before my eyes closed, I caught sight of the cut on his neck, a straight, but not deep mark. Then I fell unconscious. One thing was certain as my mind blacked out; I had never missed before, but this time, I had failed. *** SALVATORE’S POV The door opened at my answer. A man walked in, one of my right hand man and trusted fellow, Marco. “Was it successful?” I asked him. “I have no idea, boss. Except she was taken by Dante.” Marco told me. I shifted uneasily in my seat. The news did not go well with me, even though that was what I really wanted. “What if Dante kills her? You know what that man is capable of doing.” I took a deep sigh. “He would not lay a hand on her,” I said with confidence. Marco scoffed silently. “The man does not care about anything and anyone. Also Emily is in his trap which poses more anger to us if she dares to spill a word about us.” I smiled. I could see Marco was trying to think outside the box. “I have seen all shades of Emily. There is a reason why I took her in my possession, why I trained her to be who she is, and that's why she is the only dear one to me.” I paused, then added, “she is different.” Marco said nothing. He had figured it was very unusual for me to put hope in a lady since lots of betrayal came from them. But I had insisted on keeping her close to him. “What do we do now, boss?” Marco asked. “We wait,” I told him. “We wait for the slightest chance to make a move. Dante has her now and that means we need to prepare for anything.” Marco nodded and turned to go. Now Dante had Emily, I knew something worse was lurking around, but I could not tell what. Not until Dante makes the first step. Marco had some knowledge on what I was up to. He had been with me so long to decipher my ways and he knew I had always been in control of my actions. Though, ever since Emily entered the picture, things had changed. I was becoming too lenient, especially to her. And now we have trampled upon Dante, the worse was inevitable. Will we survive or not? I took another deep sigh and watched as Marco walked out, closing the door behind him.EMILY'S POV When I heard the door closed, I felt hot tears slip out of my eyes. I opened them slowly, the tears obstructing my sight. The only glimpse of him I could catch was the sight of his back disappearing through the closing door. I felt pained over all that had happened, even the thought of Salvatore still pierced my heart. My whole life had been a lie. I had been living on lies. That was worse than I could ever expect. Now Salvatore was dead. My parents were no more. But I was not dead. So I had to fend for myself, to build myself again. From scratch. The doctor came later and proclaimed it a miracle that I was awake. He said he had never seen such a thing before. Then I was kept on supervision until I recovered fully. A few weeks later, I was discharged. My bills had been paid and everything had been settled by Dante. The doctor did not say specifically that he was the one, but somehow I had a feeling it was him. Whenever I recalled his story, I came to the conclus
DANTE'S POV As I sat by the hospital bed, I could not help but stare at what used to be a daring face now filled with innocence. It had been months since she was shot, months since everything happened, and months since she fell into a coma. The doctor had told me she was between life and death with the highest probability being death. When I heard the news, I felt something breaking inside me. Not that I was feeling any weird feelings towards her, but because she had been through a lot. She did not deserve all of that, but she had experienced it all. So with pity, an emotion I should never exhibit, I paid her a visit and resorted to telling her how it all came to this, unsure of if she was conscious or not. *** (FLASHBACK) I had just turned eighteen when my father, as usual, ordered me and Salvatore, my step brother, to raid the house of his debtor. It was said that the debtor's wife had borrowed a loan from Luciano Moretti, my father, to help settle her husband's medical bi
EMILY'S POV FLASHBACK (Thirteen years ago) I was just twelve when it all happened. I was naive with no knowledge of what was going on except the fact that everyone was running helter-skelter. My mom carried me in her arms, I could feel her heart beating fast, in fact her whole body shivered. When I began to hear gunshots, I knew something had happened. Just then, my mom stopped, she began to move backwards, her head shaking in refusal as she held my head from turning to see. We ended up getting thrown out by a group of strange men to where my father was with a pistol in hand. The look on his face was terrifying, but when he saw me, I noticed a hint of fear. Whatever they were saying made no sense to me, I could not understand anything, however, it was clear that they had a heated argument going on. Then I heard my mother saying she would not go anywhere without her husband. At that minute, she let go of me and pulled out a nylon hidden beneath her clothes. Then I saw her do
SALVATORE'S POV When Marco told me Dante and his men had barged into the building killing anyone that obstructed their path, I was furious. I was not expecting him to come in the middle of the night. Now I was certain he really wanted a fight. I turned to Emily whose hand rested briefly atop my shoulder. I told her Dante was around and observed the worried expression on her face. Where was the fierce Emily I was used to? Was she scared that I would be killed? I scoffed in my mind. Dante should know better than to kill me. “Stay here and don't come out. I wouldn't want Dante to set his eyes on you.” I told her. Emily shook her head in refusal. She did not want me to go all by myself. “Look, here is the thing. You are the only vulnerable person to me. If Dante gets hold of you, I'll be forced to surrender.” I explained to her. This time I think she got the message because I noticed a slight nod as she faced the ground. With a smile, I took my gun, uncocked it and went
DANTE'S POV When my men assembled in the room, I mapped out a strategy to get Salvatore. It was not going to be an easy one seeing that my rival must have been preparing too, but I know my men's experience would make it far easier. When the instructions had been dished out, I let out a smirk and puffed some smoke from the mouth. My duel with Salvatore goes way back, but soon, I was certain he would be a thing of the past. After the whole meeting, my men began to file out of the room. Everywhere became quiet, silent enough to let my thoughts rummage in my mind.Emily.She must have loved Salvatore so much to want to keep him safe. But there was something she did not know and I was sure it would wreck her if she eventually found out.Should I let her know it let her find out herself?Suddenly, there was a knock.“Come in.” I grunted.Martino walked in, bearing a hardened expression.“Speak!” I commanded.Martiono bowed his head, facing the floor directly.“Emily has escaped.”I paused,
EMILY'S POV I was scared. My heart was thudding within my chest. I could not control it or even stop this feeling if I wanted to.In a few days, Dante would attack Salvatore and I am pretty sure my boss knows nothing about the impending danger. Worst still, his spy has been held captive and the idiot has revealed the name of his boss.I say on the edge of my bed, replaying the scene in Dante's room. The tense atmosphere when I entered, the heavy air, the stern gaze from Dante, the shiver from Fabien as he sat on the cold marbled floor. When Dante threw the question at me, I recalled gulping hard enough to choke. His voice was thick and the tone behind it was ruthless. But I was trained to remain loyal especially to the man I had feelings for.Proudly enough, I had denied knowing the spy so Salvatore would be safe. But I had concluded too early because when Fabien was questioned, he spilled the secret.Salvatore. He had said that name shamelessly because a gun was pointed to his head
EMILY'S POV A few weeks had passed since I began working for Dante. His sight disgusts me but I had to answer his calls, unless I wanted my head separated from my body.Dante made sure I was always with him, serving him or the sexy ladies who appeased him sexually. I would watch them rub his body
EMILY'S POVI opened my eyes and looked around the dusty room. The air choked me as the coldness seeped slowly into my almost bare skin. It was a dark and strange place with chains protruding out of the black walls. The same type of heavy chain that closed around my wrists, holding me in place. Th
EMILY'S POV The clubhouse was blaring with music, its bass vibrating through the marble floor. I slid down from the pole, my eyes scanning the audience who cheered me on. I let out a faint smile and bowed to demonstrate an end to my show.Still, I searched for him. Not until my eyes landed on the
I stood with widened eyes at the shocking sight before me. My body was shaking and my lips quivered as I stared at the body laying on the ground. Blood dripped from my fingers where the dagger was still lightly within my grasp. Drops of blood fell to the ground, landing on the lifeless body that se
