Though clearly shocked, the hotel manager, Clifton Payne's professionalism kicked in. He immediately replied, "Of course, Ms. Drew. I'll initiate the cancellation process for you right away."

After hanging up, I reached up to remove the crystal tiara from my head and toss the custom haute couture veil, worth over 300,000 dollars, carelessly onto the couch.

Suddenly, a flurry of hurried footsteps came from outside the door. It was violently shoved open with a loud bang.

Everett Green's mom, Susanne Grant, walked in wearing a dark red dress meant for the wedding. Her facial features were twisted with displeasure, and her brows were tightly furrowed.

She immediately slipped into her usual lecturing tone. "What are you throwing a fit about now, Madeline Drew? Even if Everett is running a little late picking up Della, so what?

"Della has had it tough ever since she was a kid. She's upset today, so Everett stopped by to comfort her. She was like a sister to Everett, how could you be so inconsiderate?"

I ignored her and quietly removed my pearl earrings as I announced, "If he's not coming, the wedding's off."

Susanne was briefly stunned before she let out a mocking laugh. "Who are you trying to scare, Madeline? Do you honestly think this trick will work on me? Do you think you're still an eighteen-year-old girl?"

She marched up to me in high heels, jabbed a finger in my face, and sneered. "The invitations were sent out, and all our relatives and friends are waiting downstairs. If you're calling it off, you're one who'll end up looking ridiculous."

After finishing her rant, she whipped out her phone and opened the family group chat named "The Loving Green Family".

Holding down the voice message button, she raised her voice by an octave, as if to make sure everyone in the hallway could hear her. "Everyone, have some tea while you wait. The bride's throwing a tantrum!

"She's upset because Everett went to pick Della up, and now she's throwing a fit, saying the wedding's off.

"Young people these days are just so petty. Imagine keeping score over something like this with family."

The moment the voice note was sent, several replies popped up in the chat.

"Young ladies these days are so spoiled. Everett has such a great temper; I don't know how he puts up with this."

"Calm down, Susanne. You can teach her how to behave and follow the rules once they're married."

A knock sounded at the door once again.

Clifton walked in carrying a stack of paperwork. He was so respectful that no one could find a single flaw in his attitude.

"Your cancellation request has been processed, Ms. Drew. This is the cancellation receipt for the two-million-dollar wedding.

"A breach of contract fee of 400,000 dollars has been deducted, and the remaining 1.6 million dollars will be refunded to your original account within three business days.

"Please sign here to confirm."

The smug look on Susanne's face immediately froze. Her eyes locked onto the string of zeros in the "2,000,000" figure on the receipt. Her eyes widened so much that she seemed to have stopped breathing for a full second.

"D-Did you actually cancel it?"

I took the pen from Clifton and signed my name in one smooth stroke.

"Clear out the ballroom. Tear down all the tables, chairs, flower arrangements, and decorations. No one except hotel staff is permitted inside."

Clifton accepted the paperwork and nodded. "Understood. I will arrange for security personnel to clear the venue at once."

Susanne finally panicked. She rushed forward in her high heels. Her finger trembled as she pointed at me. "Have you lost your mind?

"All the guests are nearly here! If you tear everything down, you'll completely humiliate us!

"Call the manager back right now and tell him to stop this second! Do you hear me?"

She was still putting on her elder airs, assuming that if she yelled loud enough, I would give in the way I always did for the past five years.

I didn't even spare her a passing glance.

Lifting the heavy train of my wedding gown, I picked up the room key card from the table and walked toward the door.

"Humiliate you? What does the Green family's reputation have to do with me?"

At the door, I paused in my tracks and never turned back.

"As for the Green family relatives downstairs, tell them to head to Soumoton and pound sand."

The relatives who had tagged along with the Greens just to snag a free meal and were now forced to stand beyond the doors. They gasped upon hearing the new development."So, Everett's a criminal!""800,000 dollars! That's enough to send him to prison!""Quick! Get away from him! We don't want to get dragged into this mess!"The same people who had fanned the flames in the group chat and urged me to be magnanimous were now cutting ties faster than anyone.A sharp wail of sirens pierced the night sky. Two police cars with flashing red and blue lights pulled into the hotel plaza before several police officers rushed in and headed straight for Everett.I looked coldly toward the ballroom door and pointed at the trembling figure hiding in the shadows."Officers, he isn't the only suspect. Della, hiding right over there, isn't just his accomplice. The necklace she's wearing around her neck is my stolen property."The police officers unclasped my Bulgari necklace from Della's neck on

Ashton didn't get mad. All he did was take out his phone, dial a number, and tap on the speakerphone button. The call was answered after two rings, and a deeply respectful voice came through. "How can I help you, Mr. Hathaway?"Ashton indifferently said, "Mr. Wade, a manager under you named Everett Green has not only offended my fiancee, but he's also suspected of embezzling corporate funds. Handle it."The other end of the line fell silent for a full second before a deafening roar exploded from the speaker."Everett Green, you absolute moron! Mr. Hathaway is our company's largest investor. Are you out of your goddamn mind?"Get the hell out of there right now! Hand your access card and laptop back to the administrative team!"As for those fraudulent accounts you kept at the company, just wait for the legal team to settle scores with you!"With a sharp click, the person hung up.All the color drained from Everett's face. His knees buckled, and he collapsed onto the steps right

After the audio file ended, the entire Internet went into an absolute frenzy.Della, who had been hiding off-camera, let out a piercing shriek. She rushed into the frame, covering her face with both hands, and her hair was a complete mess."No! I never said that!"It's fake! Madeline used AI to make the audio file!"However, her panicked movements and deathly pale face completely gave her away. The bullet comments in the livestream went completely feral."He lives off her wife yet still acts entitled! This guy's the ultimate scumbag!""This is absolutely sickening! Did he just target the bride's assets just to fund his mistress' dance studio? I can hear his parasitic scheming from outer space!""Get off the internet, you worthless scumbag! Call the police and lock him up!""Where did that homewrecker go, the one who was acting all innocent a second ago? Come out and take your beating!"Just as Everett frantically scrambled to shut down the livestream, the elevator doors opene

The bullet comments in the livestream were filled with voices of sympathy for Everett while cursing me out for being inhumane.Everett wiped away tears from the corners of his eyes. He fished a worn key out of his pocket and inserted it into the manual keyhole of the smart lock, then turned it with force. It didn't budge. He froze for a second, then tried again with more force. This time, the key became completely jammed inside, but the door remained completely motionless."What's going on?"Frowning, he forced a smile at the camera and said, "The lock might be broken. I'll get the management staff to come take a look."The elevator doors slid open with a chime before the property manager, Thomas Hanks, emerged with a cold expression, accompanied by a locksmith wearing work overalls."Mr. Green."He held up a receipt and cut off Everett's words without a shred of courtesy. "Don't bother trying. We've just replaced the lock."The true owner of the apartment notified us to chang

Della misplaced her foot on the stairs in the middle of the jostling, and her high heels gave out beneath her."Ah!"With a sharp shriek, she pathetically tumbled onto the ground, dragging her pure white tulle dress through muddy water and tire tracks on the pavement. It was instantly filthy and ruined."Everett! Everett, help me!"She sat on the ground, crying pitifully. All traces of her arrogant, manipulative innocence were gone.Arm in arm with Ashton, I turned and entered the grand hotel ballroom.Everett's frantic roars came from behind us. "Just you wait, Madeline! The penthouse is under my name, and if you dare swap grooms today, don't even think about coming home tonight!"…Under Ashton's lawless arrangements, the wedding proceeded incredibly smoothly.I was sitting in the VIP dressing room, having just changed out of my reception dress, when my phone suddenly buzzed with over a dozen push notifications.Everett had published a 2,000-word article on the local city

The flattering smile on Everett's face instantly froze. He locked his deadly stare on my arm, which was linked with Ashton's, and shrieked like he was looking at a monster, "What did you just say? Are you making him the groom instead?"Before he could lash out, eight hotel security guards stepped in. Their expressions were cold as they formed a solid wall right in front of him to block his path."Have you lost your mind, Madeline?"Held back beneath the steps by the imposing guards, Everett was hopping mad. He pointed in my face, and his voice turned shrill from sheer anger."Where did you hire this guy? How'd you get him to put on a show with you? Do you honestly think hiring some random guy to play a billionaire is going to scare me?"I'm telling you—the Green family booked this hotel! I'm the main event here today!"He desperately clung to his fragile, fake respectability and attempted to keep up his "rich and powerful" persona in front of his relatives.Clifton's expression
