The morning after the wedding announcement felt like a bad dream Ashley couldn’t wake up from. She stood in front of the mirror in her small bedroom, brushing her hair with shaky hands. Her simple black sweater and jeans suddenly felt too plain, everything had changed overnight and Ryder Knight was her stepfather now and she tried to accept it.

Downstairs, her mother was already buzzing with excitement, packing bags and talking nonstop about the new life waiting for them. Ryder had left early, but his scent still lingered faintly in the house—dark pine that made Ashley’s stomach tighten every time she breathed it in. Well, school was waiting.

When they pulled up to Stoneridge Academy, heads turned immediately, Ryder’s sleek black car drew attention on its own, but today was different, Ashley stepped out on the passenger side, feeling eyes on her like needles.

Ryder climbed out of the driver’s seat like he owned the parking lot. Tall, broad-shouldered, dressed in his hockey team jacket and dark jeans that hugged his powerful thighs.

His dark hair was still slightly messy from the morning, and that same unreadable expression sat on his handsome face.

The news had already spread like wildfire and by the time they reached the main doors, whispers rippled through the crowded hallways.

“Did you hear? Ryder Knight married Ashley Carter’s mom.”

“No way. Her? The ghost girl?”

“Stepfather? That’s messed up.”

Ashley kept her head down, clutching her books to her chest but she could feel Ryder’s presence behind her, he didn’t walk with her exactly, just stayed close enough that his shadow seemed to cover her.

His teammates clapped him on the back as he passed, laughing and joking like nothing was different, agroup of girls shot jealous glances her way, their eyes narrowing like this was somehow her fault.

In first period, the stares burned hotter, glares from even the teachers.

She was at her locker when he walked by with two of his teammates, his cold eyes locked on her for a long second, her skin prickled with heat as she slammed her locker shut and hurried away.

Lunch was worse…the cafeteria buzzed with energy. Ashley sat alone at the edge of a table, picking at her food trying to disappear like she always did but Ryder commanded the center of the room, his usual spot, surrounded by his hockey crew and a flock of pretty girls hanging on his every word.

One of them, a cheerleader with long blonde hair leaned against his shoulder, laughing too loudly acting all cute, not that it mattered to her anyway.

She looked away focusing way too seriously on her food hoping he'd stop stealing glances at her. Instead he stood up suddenly, the place quieted a little as he moved… walked past her table with that easy, lazy stride and when he was right beside her, he leaned down just enough, his voice low and rough so only she could hear.

“Try not to embarrass me, princess.”

His breath brushed her ear, her hairs stood on end as shivers trickled down her spine, his eyes lingered on her then dropped for half a second to the curve of her neck, then lower, before he straightened and kept walking like nothing happened.

Ashley sat frozen, her food now totally forgotten, she hated him so much, hated how he looked down on her and how her body reacted to the deep timbre of his voice, hated that he was now family.

The rest of the school day dragged in a haze of whispers and stolen glances, by the final bell, Ashley felt exhausted when her mother picked her up, chattering happily the whole drive to Ryder’s mansion. “You’re going to love it, honey. Just you wait.”

The mansion rose up at the end of a long private road like something from a movie, tall gates that opened automatically, the house was massive—modern lines mixed with old money elegance, surrounded by manicured lawns and tall trees.

Inside, everything screamed wealth. Marble floors, high ceilings, huge windows that let in golden afternoon light, expensive art on the walls and a sweeping staircase that looked like it belonged in a palace.

Ashley stood in the grand foyer, bags at her feet, feeling completely out of place, this was nothing like their old house, much too grand to even be compared with it

“Ryder’s out training, but he’ll be back soon,” her mother said, already exploring like she owned the place. “Your room is upstairs, third door on the left, now go settle in.”

Ashley carried her bags up the wide stairs, the hallway smelled like him; that rich, commanding Alpha scent of pine, leather, something wild underneath, it wrapped around her, stirring her wolf again.

She pushed open the door to her new room and stopped, it was breathtaking… big bed, soft gray linens, a desk by the window overlooking the backyard, a private bathroom attached but it still felt cold, like it wasn't really her home.

She unpacked slowly, trying to make the space feel like hers, an hour or so passed then she heard the front door open downstairs and the familiar lazy confident steps, he was back.

Curiosity pulled her out of her room, she walked quietly down the hall and paused at the top of the stairs peeking carefully, below he moved through the open living area like he owned every inch of it—which he did.

He had just come back from training and his shirt was gone, tossed over one shoulder, he wore only black athletic shorts that hung low on his hips, showing the sharp V-lines dipping toward the dangerous territory, the one she was supposed to have no business with.

His body was breathtaking, sculpted muscle from years of brutal hockey and wolf training, broad shoulders tapering to a narrow waist, hard abs that flexed with every movement and dark tattoos covered his left shoulder and part of his chest intricate patterns that looked ancient, and faint scars from training. Sweat still glistened on his skin, making him shine under the lights.

He walked to the kitchen, grabbed a bottle of water from the fridge, Ashley couldn’t look away, the way his muscles moved, the raw power in his arms and back… it did things to her she didn’t want to admit.

Ryder lowered the bottle and turned, like he sensed her there, his dark eyes lifted and found her instantly on the staircase and for a moment, neither of them spoke, the air between them thickened, his gaze dragged slowly over her, down her sweater, over her hips, then back up.

“Settling in?” he asked, voice low and rough from training. It carried easily up the stairs.

Ashley nodded, gripping the railing. “It’s… big.”

He smirked faintly. “You’ll get used to it.” He set the water down and stretched his arms overhead, muscles rippling, the movement making his shorts ride even lower, Ashley’s mouth went dry, eyes still glued to that part of his waist that disappeared beneath the waistband.

“Ryder, darling! How was training?” It was her mother, breaking the moment.

He turned to her, but his eyes flicked back to Ashley for one last second before he answered, Ashley slipped away to her room, heart racing as she closed the door and leaned against it, breathing hard.

This house was huge, but it already felt too small, everywhere carried his scent, every corner reminded her of who he was.

Dinner swept by like some death sentence…. Ashley munched on each food like they were rules to it. Like making any sounds would attract any severe punishment. It was torture!

Maybe wandering around the mansion would help ease the growing knot in her belly. So, she roamed. She found the indoor pool area, the massive gym, the library full of dark wood and leather chairs, she ran her fingers over the luxury feel of the leather chairs… Gosh! They felt like they could buy her entire existence!

“Hmm,” Ryder cleared his throat. Ashley shook, her heart gave a slight jolt, she pulled her fingers off the seat at once. “Ruin anything, and you'll work in this house till you repay every dime.”

The words hit her like ice, or worse still, fire. She spun to look at him fully, he looked like he had just walked out of another session. Shirtless, towel slung around his neck.

“You look worse when you're this grumpy!” She snarled.

The bottle of water in his hand paused right at his lips. He pulled it back slowly. “What did you just say?” He barked.

“Good night, stepfather!” She cajoled.

Ryder took one calculated step, like he was out to get her, but Ashley was quick, and her legs moved like they were floating on air as she hurried down the hallway to her bedroom.

That night, Ashley lay in her new bed, staring at the ceiling trying to piece together the scattered fragments that are now her life.

ASHLEY; I shouldn’t have come. Mom would be there, I had watched her as she slipped into the passenger seat of the car holding up his helmet, while Ryder took the driver's seat. Vanessa surprises me every darn time. How does she do it? Tugging on a boy that young? Ryder looked a lot bigger, more muscular, and broader for his age. He could easily pass for a man in his mid-thirties, but it didn't change his age. “Run.” My mind said. I was battling it, for years I had always hidden away, run from everyone and everything, but what had it gotten me, maybe just mean words from Ryder and the likes of him. The words repeated in my head like a warning I refused to heed as I sat high in the stands, hood pulled low over my face. The arena was loud, electric, packed with screaming students and proud parents. But all I could focus on was him, even when I knew Mom was a few feet away from me. Ryder Knight tore across the ice like he owned it. Every stride was powerful, every check brutal,

RYDER; “Fuck,” I growled. I paced the wide bedroom like a caged animal trying to break free, my long legs covering the space in three angry steps before I spun around again. The floor creaked under my weight. My blood was still hot from dinner. I had forced myself to sit there the whole time, acting calm, acting like I wasn’t losing my fucking mind. But I was, and sitting right across from her was worsening it all. Ashley was changing right in front of me. She used to flinch when I looked at her. Tonight she held my stare longer than she ever had. Mason was a bad influence, all thanks to her my little Ashley was starting to learn her worth. Her chin lifted just a little. Her soft green eyes carried a new spark, the type that clearly states she was done cowering, and that both pissed me off and turned me on in ways I hated. But the necklace was what really fucked me up. It had no business being in her hands, or around her neck. I stopped pacing and dragged my hand rough

ASHLEY;I stood there, stunned, my hand still hovering near the pendant on my neck. The words stuck in my throat as I tried to explain. “I… I,” I stuttered, pointing backward toward the hallway that led to my bedroom. But before I could say something else, Ryder moved. He almost pushed down a porcelain bowl on the long wooden dining table, his broad body brushing against it roughly. In three quick steps, he stood right in front of me, his thick hand circling my tinier one as he pulled me up the staircase. Each step he took made me practically run after him, my feet stumbling to keep up.“You’re… hurting me,” I cried low, my voice barely above a whisper. I didn’t know why I kept my voice that low, but I had made a mental note since he whispered his words too. His grip was firm, warm, but tight enough that I could feel my pulse beating against his fingers. He paused right beside my bedroom door, the hallway light shining above us like a spotlight. He yanked me free, letting go of my w

ASHLEY;I stood before the tall mirror in my bedroom, turning slowly from side to side. The cream dress hugged just under my breasts, showing off some curvy features I wondered where they came from. It flared gently down, stopping right before my knees. It felt soft against my skin, the fabric swishing lightly with every small movement. I wasn’t sure if I looked overdressed for dinner or too good to be sitting across from the devil himself. But after those strict rules he barked at me this afternoon, I had spent hours in my room drawing maps and plans in my head on how to break every single one of them.“Dinner is at seven!” His voice had been sharp and commanding, echoing down the hallway like he owned every corner of this house. Unfortunately, he did.I remembered the way my hands had tightened into fists at my sides when he said it. Now here I was, trying to look calm while my mind raced with ways to push back.I ran my fingers over the dress again. Irene had given it to me as a

“You called,” Ashley answered, pushing the door to the study open, her fist tightening hard against the thick frame of the door, steadying herself with it. Ryder sat still, eyes hooded, a pen flickering in his palm. The look in his eyes was fierce, not entirely new, but Ashley knew there was more to this stern look. Just last night, she had disobeyed him. Mason had offered a half-filled bottle of amber drink to her, and she lifted the bottle at intervals, gulping down the contents till she no longer felt her head. Ryder had found her where Mason was almost pressing against her, and quite unlike him, he carried her up to her bedroom. Now that she stood before him in the study, trying to act like she knew nothing about what this impromptu meeting between just the two of them was about, she knew it all. The silence lingered, just the cracking sound of a pen hitting his turgid palm. Ashley moved her eyes around, the last time she sneaked in here, she wasn't lucky enough to take

  • FALLING FOR MR. FORBIDDEN: MY MOTHER’S HOT HUSBAND   CHAPTER 004: JEALOUSY

The days in the mansion had started to blur together, but school remained its own kind of battlefield. Ashley sat on the bleachers during her free period, pretending to read a book while her eyes kept drifting to the training below, Ryder dominated the practice like he dominated everything else in his life. He moved with grace, powerful thighs pushing him across the ice in explosive bursts, his hockey jersey clung to his broad shoulders and back, damp with sweat, every time he slammed into an opponent during drills, the sound echoed through the arena. His body was pure power, muscles flexing, jaw tight with focus and she couldn’t look away, the way his strong hands gripped the stick, the way his hips shifted as he turned sharply He was her stepfather now, she kept reminding herself of that but her wolf didn’t care it watched him with hungry interest, drawn to the raw Alpha energy he gave off even from a distance. It was best to leave the area, to stay away from the temptation
