The shopping bags in my hand weighed down heavily even though they only contained three simple gifts. Today is my third anniversary. To be honest, I never imagined I would find a boyfriend. Or even celebrate three love filled years with him. My condition made it near impossible to function as a human being. But my Liam was a miracle. We met three years ago at a bakery after I’d accidentally dumped my cake and matcha on him. I remember that day like yesterday, I remember how spell bound I was held by his good looks. And even more by how graceful he’d handled his pristine shirt stained with matcha and whipping cream. Since then, it’s been bliss. I walked up the stairs to my apartment, a bright smile on my face as I imagined how tonight was going to go. Spectacularly, of course. I’m not letting anything ruin tonight. Not even the fact that I lost my job. Yeah yeah, not like it paid well anyway. My phone dinged with a message the moment I stepped into the warmth of my apartment. Seeing Liam’s name on my screen, with the ten red heart emojis, made butterflies fill my stomach. The message was simple. “Hi baby girl. I’m so sorry I’m late, turns out planning a surprise takes more time than I imagined. Come to this address okay? Love, L.” I squealed, reading the message three times before I decided to get dressed and go meet him. I quickly showered, using the expensive body wash I’d been saving for months. I styled my hair, did my makeup, and wore the red silk gown that cost me three months salary. Three. My very lucky number. Oh, and I didn’t forget gift number one. A pair of black and gold lingerie. Both of them are Liam's favorite colors. The other two gifts were for him, to thank him for being the best boyfriend I can ever imagine. Oh, and one special gift I can’t wait to give him. Once I was ready, I headed to the hotel. As if they were waiting for me, the staff showed me to the room. “Are you having a party?” The receptionist asked, a smile on her red lips as she handed the keycard over to me. I frowned. “A party? I’m here to meet my boyfriend. Well, my soon to be fiance anyway,” I added the last part with a shy smile, touching the gift bag. The receptionist blinked slowly, her brows furrowed. A look of suspicion appeared on her face but quickly vanished, replaced by a professional smile. “I…I see. Have a lovely evening then.” Why’s she acting weird? A party? Did Liam invite some people? He did say he was planning a surprise. But who’s he going to invite? My best friend is out of the country and my family— No. I won’t think about them. Not on my happy day. I pushed all the unpleasant thoughts aside and headed up to the room. I scanned the keycard, my hand trembling from excitement so much that I almost dropped the gift. But the moment the door swung open, I froze. “Oh fuck baby! Right there! Fuck yes!” A scene from a porno. Except, I knew the actors. There was my boyfriend of three years on the bed, a woman bouncing on him, her lithe and slender body twisting in ways I didn’t think was possible. “You like that huh?” Liam grunted, grabbing her waist and slamming her down on him. “August?” My voice came out barely above a whisper. The bag slipped, clattering to the ground. The sound shocked them out of their activity, and they turned to me. August. My step sister. Her blue eyes filled with fire as they settled on me. “Oh hi sis,” she breathed, a smile stretching on her face. Like I had just caught her with my boyfriend. “You came so fast. Did you fly?” Why..what the hell is going on? “Babe?” I turned to Liam. He made no move to cover up, or get August off him. He stared at me, his dark brown eyes filled with annoyance. “I…I don’t understand. You said…you messaged me and…” “Oh goodness, listen to her ramble!” August groaned. Then she lifted herself off Liam, grabbed a phone and held it up. A message dinged in my phone. I fished it out, my movements not mine. “Sike.” The message read. From Liam. But August was the one that… My ears rang. “Sorry,” Liam said, his voice anything but apologetic. I looked up at them, my heart racing, my hand trembling as I gripped my phone. Yeah, there’s no way this is real. No. I must have fallen asleep and this is a dream. I can’t believe this. My mouth opened and closed but no words could come out. This day, i’d been planning it all year. I saved every penny I made. For goodness sake I lost my job today but that didn’t stop me from buying the gifts. Because I… Tera’s pricked my eyes. “How could you?” I whispered, my voice shaky. “Liam…August…how? Why did you—“ August pouted. And right under my eyes, she straddled Liam again. “What’s the matter sis? Are you gonna cry? Darling, I think she’s gonna cry.” She said, laughing. Liam scoffed. “As if she can feel anything. Don’t let her crocodile tears fool you, okay?”he kissed her, on the lips. My breath vanished. I grabbed into the door for support No. No no no. This isn’t real. But Liam turned to me. A smug look painted all over his face. “You…you said you loved me,” I choked out. “Tonight was supposed to be for us, Liam. For us. We’ve spent three years together and—“ He gently pushed August aside and rose to his feet, crossing the distance between us. He was still naked. Still hard. Shameless. He doesn’t even…he didn’t even try. At least try to be remorseful. “Don’t bullshit me, Andy,” he hissed. “We both know you can’t feel shit. How long did you plan on hiding it from me, huh?” My world spun around. I felt dizzy, unable to breathe. I couldn’t even think. I glanced at August, who was reclined in the bed like a queen, staring at me with haughty eyes. Betrayal sliced through my heart. He knew. Liam knew. The secret to my condition that I’d hidden for three years, that I’d also planned to tell him tonight. “You told him?” I asked August. She rolled her eyes. “As if I’d keep any secrets from the love of my life.” She giggled. “Oh, but there’s one secret I kept. Are you gonna tell her, babe?” Liam nodded. “Yeah right. August is my girlfriend. My real girlfriend. And we’re getting married in three months.”Andy’s POV“I want the sex clause.”Dante stared at me. Abruptly, he got to his feet and headed right for the door. I sat there, tears slicking my face, the words I'd spoken hanging in the air.Shit.“Dante!” I scrambled to my feet and ran to the door just as it was slipping shut. “Dante, wait! Come back! I didn't mean it, I swear! It was just a stupid joke!”He didn't stop. He didnt open the door. He didn't even glance over his shoulder at me. He just kept walking, the sight of his broad back getting smaller and smaller till he turned down a corner and vanished.Great, Andy. Now you’ve scared him and he’s going to chuck you into the sea for damn sure!I dragged myself back to the table, tears brimming my eyes all over again. Why did I have to open my big mouth and vomit that rubbish?!Barely five minutes later, the door opened and Dante walked in with a short middle aged man dressed in a white suit.“The lawyer.” my soon to be husband said simply. The lawyer stepped forward, a jerky
Andy’s POVHe wants me. I’m not imagining things. This man wants me. In every sense of the word. Will he still want me if he knows the truth? That question slammed into me like a ton of bricks. I pulled my hand back and turned my head away. His hand hung in the space between us before his fist clenched and he pulled back. “You should rest,” he said, his voice flat. A stark contrast to how hoarse and tensed he’d sounded mere seconds ago. “I’ll have the chef prepare something for you. The cruise stops at Bermuda today, we’ll go shopping. Then—“I turned to him, my eyes burning with tears. “You’re a fucking asshole, you know that right?”“Andy, I believe we can communicate without you cursing me every two seconds.”I rose to my feet, glaring him down even though he was two solid heads taller than me. “You spun on me out of nowhere, asked me to marry you, and now you’re giving me all this shit about how you know everyone on your ship when you haven’t even…I don’t even know your fucking
Andy’s POVI woke up with a violent sneeze. And another. And another. My nose was clogged. My head hurt like someone was inside banging pots and pans. Everything was so freaking bright it hurt my eyeballs just to see. “Urghhhhh,” “You’re up.” A cool, deep voice spoke beside me. I turned slowly. There he was. The psychopath that pushed me off the ship. In the morning sun filtering through the glass windows, he was so handsome it physically hurt to look at him. That jawline…Urgh. The shape of his nose, just like the men I used to fawn all over on the internet. He looks like he just stepped out of a fashion magazine with the title “dangerous and sexy”No. I shouldn’t be here admiring this psycho! He tried to kill me! “You!” I screamed, lunging at him, ready to claw his eyes out. He stepped to the side. I fell to the ground, groaning as my knees banged against the floor. Not even a second wasted, I jumped to my feet and spun around to face him. “What are you doing here?!”He sighe
Andy’s POVA scream burst out of me as my body lurched forward. Before I could fall in, a strong grip circled around my upper arm and held me. My eyes widened and I turned to see my savior. Oh my goodness he’s hot! The first thing I noticed was his eyes. They were dark, I couldn’t tell the color yet but the way he looked at me was so intense. Like he was picking apart my face and inspecting my skull. He held me, right over the edge of the rail, effortlessly like I weighed nothing. “H-hi mister,” I tried, smiling too widely, my body trembling from all the alcohol in my system. “Can you um…maybe pull me up? I’m kinda dangling over here.”The handsome stranger turned his head to the side, glancing at where I was flailing helplessly over the railing. “And why would I do that?” He asked. “Because I could fall?!”“Didn’t you want to jump in the first place?”Ah. An asshole. I sucked my teeth. “That was a mistake. I was only…I was only admiring the fish.”He cocked a perfectly groome
