LOGINDAVE’S POV
I wrapped up the meeting as quickly as I could. Glancing at the time, I knew I could still make it to mine and Neah’s anniversary celebration. I was about to leave when Monica, my secretary, suddenly blocked my way.
“Sir, you can’t leave yet. Your car tire blew out.”
“What?” I asked in disbelief. I ran a hand down my face in frustration. Why now? Why did this have to happen when I was in such a hurry?
“How did that even happen? I just had my car checked last week. The tires were replaced too,” I asked, confused, even though I knew Monica couldn’t possibly have the answer when we had both been inside the conference room the entire time.
“I don’t know either, sir.” I let out a deep sigh.
“Book a car,” I ordered. I reached into my suit and pants pockets for my phone, but it wasn’t there. “Where’s my phone?” I asked, turning to Monica. She immediately pulled my phone out of her bag and handed it to me. I checked to see if Neah had sent a message or called, but there was nothing. She was probably still waiting for me at the restaurant.
I knew the restaurant closed at 10:00 PM, so I could still make it. There was still an hour left before closing. I was about to call Neah when my phone suddenly died. I frowned immediately because I was certain it had battery before we left the house.
“Why is my phone dead? What happened?” I asked Monica. She usually handled my phone whenever I was in meetings.
“I don’t know, sir. Maybe you forgot to charge it?”
“No. That’s impossible because I charged it before my wife and I left the house.” I shook my head. There was no way my phone could have died that quickly. “Give me your phone. I’ll call my wife.”
“I’m sorry, sir, but my phone’s dead too.”
“What?” I snapped, my brows furrowing. I couldn’t stop the irritation building inside me anymore. Why did everything have to go wrong tonight of all nights?
“How are you supposed to book me a car then?” The annoyance in my voice was obvious now.
“Please stay here, sir. I’ll try to find one outside. Don’t leave, okay?” I sighed heavily again. There was barely anyone left in the company building since the employees had gone home hours ago. And finding transportation around this area was difficult because most rides needed to be booked beforehand.
I wanted to call Neah. I promised her I would come back, and I knew she would wait for me. But I had no phone to use. Why did bad luck keep hitting me one after another tonight?
I waited for Monica to return, but several minutes had already passed and she still wasn’t back. Eventually, I walked outside the building myself to wait for a taxi along the highway.
“Sir, why did you follow me out here?” Monica asked when she saw me approach her. “I was already looking for a taxi for you.”
Cars kept passing by, but none of them were available.
“Still nothing?” I asked.
“None yet, sir.”
Why were there no available taxis when so many were driving past us? A few seconds later, a taxi finally pulled over in front of us. I quickly climbed inside, only to frown when Monica got into the front passenger seat as well.
“What are you doing?”
“I’ll take you there myself, sir. It’s hard to find a ride around here, so I’ll just take this taxi later as well.” I decided to let her do what she wanted. Right now, the only thing that mattered to me was getting back to the restaurant and making it back to Neah.
I didn’t want to break the trust she had finally given me again. I was exhausted from the entire day. Sleepiness was starting to creep in too because I’d only gotten two hours of sleep since last night. I stared out the window, feeling like the taxi was moving unbearably slow. Why was it taking us so long to get there?
“Sir, are you still going to the restaurant?” Monica suddenly asked. “Ma’am Neah already left. Someone I know who works there said she left a while ago.” I turned toward Monica at what she said. She left? She told me she would wait for me. I checked the time. 9:15 PM. More than an hour had already passed since I left. Was it possible she left shortly after I did? Did she really not trust me anymore when I said I’d come back? I tried to finish the meeting as quickly as possible just to return to her. But I couldn’t blame her for not believing me anymore. Because of me. Because of my greed. Because of my ambitions. I neglected both her and our unborn child.
If I hadn’t been so consumed by work, maybe our baby would still be with us right now. I was only doing all of this for our future. To give them a good life. To buy Neah anything she wanted without even needing to look at the price tag because I could afford it for her.
“Sir? Sir!” I snapped back to reality when Monica called me repeatedly. “Are we still going to the restaurant, or are we heading home?” she asked.
What was the point of going to the restaurant if Neah wasn’t there anymore?
“Let’s go home,” I answered tiredly. I already knew this was my fault again. I gave her hope again. I broke another simple promise I made to her—that I would come back. I leaned my head against the window, wondering how I was supposed to explain myself to her this time.
When I arrived home, my heart was pounding hard against my chest. I scanned the living room, but she wasn’t there. Was she already in our room? Was she asleep? How was I supposed to make it up to her again? I dragged a hand down my face in frustration.
I headed straight to our bedroom and slowly opened the door, but the moment I stepped inside, my brows knitted together. Neah wasn’t there.
“Neah? Where are you?” I called out. I knocked on the bathroom door and opened it, but it was empty too. I searched the entire house, but I couldn’t find her anywhere.
Had she still not come home? Monica said Neah had already left the restaurant. Was it possible she got stuck in traffic? I searched for my phone so I could charge it, but I couldn’t find it anywhere.
“Fuck,” I muttered under my breath as I realized I had probably left it with Monica again. I rubbed my forehead tiredly. With so many things on my mind, I’d started forgetting things easily. I often left my phone with Monica. I trusted my secretary, so I was never really worried whenever my things ended up with her. Most of the time, it was my own fault anyway.
And now, when I desperately needed my phone…That was exactly when I forgot to take it back.
I waited for Neah in the living room. I kept telling myself she would arrive any minute now. But the entire night passed—
And she never came home.
DAVE'S POVI kept sneezing after changing into dry clothes. It was too cold earlier when I got wet in the rain. I was forcing myself not to shiver so Neah wouldn't notice. After getting dressed, I stepped out of the bathroom. Neah had already changed as well. She was sitting on the single sofa, hugging her knees to her chest. She looked like a frightened child. She may have changed, but the things she was afraid of never did. She still seemed terrified of the dark, especially when there was loud thunder and sharp lightning."Stay here, I'm going to check the kitchen and see what I can cook," I told her, but she immediately stood up."I'm coming with you." Just like I thought, she was afraid of being left alone. I walked out of the room first while she followed closely behind me. When I suddenly stopped walking, she bumped into my back because she was standing too close."I'm sorry," she muttered. I turned around and took one of her hands. "What are you doing?" she asked irritably. Why
NEAH'S POVWhen we reached the bridge, a man wearing a raincoat suddenly blocked our path. Dave rolled down his window."Sir, you can't pass through anymore because the water is already too high. The road has also been damaged because of the sudden storm. It's better if you turn back," the man shouted over the deafening sound of the rain and thunder, making him difficult to hear."We can't go home?" I asked Dave anxiously."You heard what he said," Dave replied grumpily.I tightly closed my eyes. I needed to go home because my son would surely be waiting for me, but if I insisted on getting my way, something might happen to both Dave and me.Dave reversed the car and headed back toward the hotel. As time passed, the rain only became heavier. The sky had turned so dark that it looked like nighttime even though it was barely four o'clock in the afternoon. We continued down the road, Dave unable to drive any faster because the rain was so heavy that he could barely see the road ahead. I
NEAH’S POVI was silently arranging my things. Is there really no other way for me not to be with Dave? I have been wishing for him to have an emergency in another project so someone else could go with me, but nothing is happening. Two hours from now we will leave, but I still haven’t heard any news of an emergency. I let out a deep sigh. It feels like this will be the longest day of my life.“Mommy, are you okay?” I looked at my child when he spoke. “You’ve been holding your things so tightly.” he added. I looked at the folder in my hand, it was already wrinkled because of how tightly I was holding it.“Be good to Auntie Claire, okay?” I reminded my child even though I tell him that every day.“Yes mommy, don’t worry.” he answered with a smile.I said goodbye to my child and left to go to Sy Elite because that is where I will meet Dave. When I arrived at the lobby, I met Cassandra. I just hope she is not suspicious of me and Dave because I don’t want trouble.“Good morning, Neah,” sh
NEAH’S POVAfter we had dinner with Liam, he also dropped us off at home. I carried Kaiden and turned to face Liam.“Thank you for the dinner, Liam. Are you going home now or heading straight to the hospital?”“I’ll go home first to rest. My duty is tomorrow anyway.” I nodded.“Alright then, drive safely. Go to sleep as soon as you get home so you can rest your body. I know your job is really exhausting.” He smiled and then kissed my forehead, the same way he did to Kaiden.“Good night, Neah. Good night, son.” He said to Kaiden.“Drive safely, daddy. I love you.” My son said sweetly. Liam smiled warmly.“Of course, don’t be naughty with your mom so she can also rest, okay?”“Yes daddy, I promise.”“Bye, Neah.” I nodded and smiled at Liam. He then turned around and got into his car. When he was no longer in sight, I was about to go inside the house when I noticed a car parked not far from us.I noticed the driver was looking at us, but then he closed the passenger window. Maybe I’m jus
DAVE’S POVI was just about to leave my office when Cassandra entered.“Are you ready?” she asked. I grabbed my coat and wore it before walking toward her.“Let’s go,” I walked ahead first to open the door. She stepped out first before I followed after her.“Oh, hi Neah.” Every time I run into Neah and see her, it feels like electricity runs through my body. After I closed the door, I looked at Neah who had just come out of her office too.“Hi,” she answered before giving a small smile.“Are you heading home too? Let’s go down together.” Neah smiled again. Cassandra and Neah walked side by side while I stayed ahead of them. They were talking again about the things they planned to do for their business.I couldn’t help but think, does Neah not think about me anymore? Did she really forget me that quickly? As for me, I’m still stuck in the past. Almost every day, I regret always choosing work first. I didn’t even realize that little by little, I was already losing the woman I loved.Whe
DAVE’S POVI couldn’t stop thinking about Neah’s child. I didn’t clearly see his face because his back was facing me. I don’t know if I just can’t accept the fact that she already has a child with someone else or if her child and I are actually blood related. I know Neah, we spent a long time together so I know she wouldn’t easily find someone else right away.I leaned back against my chair and tightly shut my eyes. Whenever I remember her cold and blank eyes, it feels like she wasn’t lying. As if she was certain that I really wasn’t the father of her child. Then again, she’s the one who truly knows the truth, who the real father of her child is.I want to win her back. If it’s true that the child is from another man, how am I supposed to continue my plan of courting her again?A deep sigh escaped my lips.“Why do you have pictures of Neah?” I quickly opened my eyes and got shocked when I saw Cassandra. She was already holding the pictures and magazines about Neah.“What are you doing
NEAH’S POVWhen I returned to our table, I immediately noticed the tension in Dave’s expression. A strange sense of dread slowly crawled into my chest. I didn’t know why, but suddenly, I was terrified of what he was about to say.His attention was fixed entirely on his phone. He didn’t even notice
DAVE’S POV“Sir, the investors are waiting.”I didn’t answer Monica immediately. I simply stared at the time on my watch.6:12 PM.Before, time never mattered to me. I didn’t care if meetings ended at dawn as long as the work got done. But now… Someone was waiting for me at home again. And this tim
NEAH’S POVThree weeks had passed, yet every single day, Dave still came to my parents’ house to win me back. Ever since we buried our child, I had never returned to the home we once shared. I wanted to heal. Somehow, the thought of stepping back into that house terrified me because all I would rem
NEAH’S POVThree days after we lost our child, I sat silently in front of a tiny white coffin. It was so small. Far too small to hold the reality that a life had once existed there. I clutched the ultrasound photo tightly in my hands while tears streamed endlessly down my face. I no longer knew how
