True to Lindsay’s word, she waited until the very end. And eventually, we walked together toward the campus hall. I had already handed my “masterpiece” to the exhibition committee. The event was about to begin in two minutes. Everything was already lined up neatly—organizers wearing their dark blue almamater uniforms, standing in formation like it was some kind of formal ceremony. I stood beside my painting, ready in case anyone asked about it.

My work. A realistic portrait. A European-nosed man, dark curly hair, dressed in an old military uniform. Napoleon Bonaparte. That was my piece.

I'm a realist painter. I’ve loved drawing since I was a kid. Back then it was manga, sketches in notebooks… and now I’m here—an art student trying to survive by selling paintings. A few people stopped in front of my canvas. Two of them asked what it was and what medium I used.

I explained calmly. “That’s Napoleon Bonaparte. A historical military commander.” I even added a short explanation about his real history. When I finished— they just nodded politely… and walked away. Just like that.

“…Huh?” Did I say something wrong? What kind of reaction was that? Five minutes before the event ended, reality hit me hard. No buyers. None. I stood there beside my canvas, suddenly feeling very small. Was I going to starve again next week?

Then— “Rose.” The head committee, Felix, walked toward me. His expression was neutral. “There’s a call. Someone wants to buy your painting.”

I blinked. “…Huh?” My brain try to process what was said. “What? How?”

He checked his notes. “Yeah. Maybe he already saw it earlier and called after leaving. He’s offering 2000 dollars. Your price was 1500, right? So it’s accepted.”

My breath caught. “Oh—yes! Yes, of course! I’ll sell it to him!” Relief hit me so fast I almost laughed. I did it. It actually sold. I walked quickly toward Lindsay, who was sitting at the edge of the garden, sipping iced coffee.

She looked effortlessly rich as always—black sunglasses, leather jacket half-off her shoulder, like she belonged in a magazine instead of a campus.

“MY PAINTING SOLD!” I shouted happily. “I think I can survive this week!”

"Yay! Great!” Lindsay stood up immediately, grabbing my hand. “I told you you’re talented, Rose!”

We walked toward the parking lot together. A sleek black car was already waiting. Of course it was expensive.Of course it was. “I’ll take you both to the cake tasting venue,” Lindsay said cheerfully. “We’re going straight to the city center.” I slowed down slightly. Something felt off. Very off. And I was right. The driver door opened. And there he was.

David Robinson.

“Finally,” he snapped. “What took you so long?”

I froze. “…Oh no.” My brain immediately went into survival mode.

*Namaste…* please calm my nerves.

*Namaste…* please calm my brain. Just like my yoga friend taught me. Ignore him. Don’t react. Don’t exist.

“I was waiting for Rose! She was selling her painting!” Lindsay argued back, dragging me into the car. “Let’s go already. You’re acting like Nana—so annoying!”

David scoffed and started driving. The city outside was strangely quiet for a weekend afternoon. Too quiet. The car moved smoothly through the streets of Las Vegas until it stopped in front of a luxury wedding cake boutique. Huge. Bright. Expensive. Of course.

Lindsay and I stepped out together. David followed behind, already complaining under his breath. Inside, everything was polished—staff dressed elegantly, interiors soft and chic like a magazine spread. Meanwhile me? Jeans. Faded blouse. Budget survival mode. Lindsay tried to give me her clothes before. They wouldn’t fit anyway.

“Here are the samples,” the manager said politely, placing three plates in front of us. “Vanilla, chocolate, and red velvet. You may choose the base flavor.”

I took a small bite of each.

Aww… Wow. They were all good. But vanilla… Vanilla felt lighter. Softer. More comforting. “I like vanilla better,” I said.

Lindsay nodded. “Me too. But Rick prefers chocolate. What should I do?”

I lowered my voice slightly. “Honestly… you’ve been handling everything since the beginning. He just shows up and agrees, right? Maybe stop overthinking his preferences if he doesn’t even help.”

Silence. David suddenly spoke.

“For the first time, I didn’t know you could think,” he said with a smirk. “I thought your brain was just fat storage.”

I exhaled sharply. Namaste.... namaste... namaste.

“And I agree with the fat girl,” he added lazily. “That guy seems shady.”

My eye twitched. There it is. Back to normal. Peace never lasts.

“I love him, Dave! Shut up!” Lindsay snapped.

“Love is blind,” David muttered.

I said nothing. I refused to. Let them fight. I just stared at my cake plate, pretending I didn’t exist. David stood up and walked toward the window. Maybe to calm down. Maybe to breathe. I watched him from the corner of my eye and thought—

*Why can’t you just disappear from this planet for five minutes so I can have peace?*

And for some reason… that thought didn’t make me feel as satisfied as it should have. What's wrong with me! ugh.

Lindsay's PovI couldn’t sleep all night. A strange uneasiness kept me awake, and I thought I could hear footsteps outside my room. I was terrified that someone might be trying to hurt me.I had locked the door, so I should have been safe, right? But I could still hear the footsteps. Finally, I grabbed my phone and quickly typed a message to the number I had just saved under the name **Lucas—Bodyguard**.**I’m scared.**I didn’t care if he made fun of me anymore. It was better than spending the entire night awake, imagining myself dying horribly at the hands of a burglar… or Mario, who was practically a maniac.**Why?** he replied almost immediately. Apparently, he was still awake, even though it was already one in the morning.**I heard footsteps. I’m scared there’s a maniac trying to break into my room.****Open the door.**I stood up and cautiously walked toward the door. I pressed my ear against it and whispered, “Lucas… is that you?”I had become such a coward lately. Thanks to M

He didn’t actually lock me up. We slept in the same bed, but nothing happened between us. He simply told me to enjoy the vacation.“So this isn’t a photo shoot?” I asked after we went downstairs for breakfast. My parents were probably leaving around this time, just as they had told me earlier, and I had already said goodbye to them. One of Dave’s employees would be driving them back to our home in Texas.“Nope.” He smiled widely and kissed my fingers. “This is our engagement party.”I immediately pulled my hand away and lightly smacked his shoulder.“You! This is so unfair! Never do something like this again!”He raised both hands in surrender. “Okay, okay.”“And what about the photo shoot?”“There is no photo shoot.” He shrugged casually. “I terminated my contract with that underwear brand. I paid a ridiculous amount of money to do it, but I was thinking about your feelings.”I stared at him.“I was afraid you’d get jealous because another woman might enjoy looking at my body.”“I do

Dave and all his doing! Ck...We all returned to the room, myself included. My mother had told me that she and my siblings would be staying until tomorrow before returning to Texas. Apparently, we would be flying back on Dave’s private jet again.I was holding hands with the man who was now officially my fiancé. Michael Robinson. Oh, there were so many things I wanted to discuss with this man, including the fact that he had shamelessly arranged this entire event without even asking me.Later. We would talk about it later. I tried to be patient as the man beside me smiled all the way to our room.We parted ways with some of the others, and apparently, my parents were staying on the floor below us. Dave was still holding my hand when we reached our floor, and the moment the elevator doors opened, our room was right in front of us.Dave opened the door for me with an unexpectedly sweet gesture. Like a knight opening the door for his queen. I stepped inside, and the moment the door closed

  • Fat Girl's Nemesis   37. I Don't Wanna Sleep Alone

Lindsay's Pov“I don’t want to sleep alone!” I whined, half-heartedly. Whatever. I was still scared.I turned to look at him, but he only stood there silently, staring at me as if he were lost in thought. His expression was unreadable. What was wrong with him?“If you think I’m trying to seduce you... relax, because I’m not,” I said quickly. “That time has been over for a very long time.” I was afraid he would misunderstand me.I was only scared, and still a little traumatized by what had happened earlier. Besides, this place was huge. The thought of sleeping alone after what had happened was enough to make my skin crawl.Lately, Lucas had often seemed lost in thought while staring at my face. Was something wrong with him? Or was he remembering someone because I reminded him of her?Ieww... don’t tell me his ex-girlfriend looked like me!“Can I ask you something?” Lucas asked softly.“Huh? Ask me something? Yeah... sure,” I replied, confused.“Back then... in the hallway of your house

  • Fat Girl's Nemesis   36. Lucas And Lindsay

Lindsay 's PovWhen Lucas stepped out of the bathroom, the lights came back on.I let out a startled shriek when I saw his face clearly under the perfect lighting.“What happened?” I asked, my voice catching in my throat. There was a deep-looking scratch on his right cheek, stretching from the side of his eye all the way down to his jaw.I stepped forward, my eyes widening.“What happened? How did you end up like that?” I asked, still unable to believe what I was seeing. He didn’t answer. His dark green eyes stared at me as if he were lost in thought.“Lucas!” I called, half-shouting.I grabbed his hand and led him toward my bed, making him sit down. Then I turned around and hurried toward the door, peeking outside to make sure there was no one else lurking in the hallway.“There’s no one else in the apartment,” Lucas said, clearly understanding what I was doing. “I already checked.”I quickly closed the door and locked it.For a moment, I leaned against it and tried to calm my poundi

My family? What were they doing here? They looked so neat and formal, completely out of place with the questions racing through my mind. What the heck… was happening here?!I turned back toward Dave, and by the time I reached him, he was already extending a hand for me to take.“Dave… why is my family here? My mom and dad. What’s going on? What is this? What kind of event is this?” I asked one question after another. He didn’t answer. Instead, he led me toward an opening with a beautiful white carpet beneath our feet, while the ceiling above the gazebo was covered in fresh, living flowers.I grew even more confused when I glanced at Dave, only to find him wearing nothing but a knowing little smile.“Dave… what is this?” I whispered again. There weren’t many people in the room, perhaps around twenty of them in total. But I didn’t recognize some of their faces. Were they the models? Then why did all of them look middle-aged?Questions continued to swirl inside my head until I failed to
