Friday arrived too fast.

Today was important—final quiz before the semester exam. I didn’t really feel fit, but I had no choice. I already slept the whole of yesterday anyway. So I forced myself to go. I grabbed a loose black blouse, soft fabric pants, and pulled on my thickest hoodie jacket. At least my body and neck felt warm.

I walked to campus through the shortcut—ten minutes through narrow alleys. Simple. Fast. Familiar.

“Hem! Where were you yesterday? Why didn’t you pick up your phone!” A sharp voice hit me the moment I entered the campus gate.

Lindsay. Dressed in something entirely pink again. Designer, obviously.

“I was sick,” I replied flatly. “My phone got stolen. Pickpocketed when I went downtown to buy painting supplies.”

“Don’t tell me you’re mad at me! It’s David’s fault, not mine! And if your phone got stolen, why didn’t you just buy a new one?” she protested immediately. I kept walking toward my faculty building.

“Linds, I’m sick. I don’t have energy to argue,” I said lazily. Please Linds... Just please.

Then I added without looking back, “And I’m poor, remember? That’s why I didn’t buy a new phone right away.”

She groaned behind me. “Then who am I supposed to bring to the cake tasting appointment later?!”

Ah. Right. Cake tasting. She had mentioned it before—some important pre-wedding preparation thing. Fun for her… stressful for me.

"Still got Lili, Rowena, and Gracia,” I replied. “They’re your friends too. They’ve been complaining anyway that you don’t include them enough.”

Lindsay sighed dramatically.

“Huft… all because of David! I’m going to beat him up later!”

I smirked without turning around. That is a very genius idea my bestie.

“Make sure you castrate him too. For my satisfaction.”

“ROSE!” she yelled.

---

The quiz went fine. Not great. Not terrible. Just… survivable. After that, I sat through the rest of class like a zombie. One more subject left, then semester break, then exams. After that… home. Texas. Hot, dry air. Endless sky. Freedom, relief, and best of all... none percentage existence of HIM.

I let out a sarcastic laugh. Yeah right. As if I could afford going back home. During the exam, something weird happened. My methodology lecturer stood behind me the entire time. Not once leaving. And only later did I realize my blouse had a slightly low neckline.

Perfect. Just perfect. Pervert.

---

“Rose, you’re done with exams, right?” Lindsay asked later at the cafeteria. We were sitting during break. She had insisted I meet her there.

"Still one subject left,” I answered, sipping cold lemon juice she bought for me.

“Why?” I asked.

“Cake tasting!” she said immediately.

I sighed deeply.

“I already told you, Linds. Ask someone else.” But I knew why she insisted.

David. He would be there. Of course he would be there.

“I want you there, Rose,” she said seriously.

They’re boring. You’re the only one who actually helps me decide things.” I froze mid-sip.

“…Wait.” I put the glass down slowly.

“You’re forcing me to go because of cake?” My voice cracked slightly.

“Do you think I’m your best option for cake tasting?” That hurt more than I expected. Lindsay panicked instantly.

“No—hell no! That’s not what I meant! It’s because of David! Not you!” I stared at her.

Silent. Then sighed.

“The answer is still no. I’ve got a street painting exhibition. I need to display my work… maybe sell one. That’s my food money for next week.” Lindsay went quiet. She knew I wouldn’t accept her help.

“So… how many paintings?” she asked softly.

“One,” I said. “I couldn’t afford more canvases and paint. It’s expensive.”

A small pause.

“After that… are you free?” she asked again.

I nodded slightly.

“Then I’ll wait,” she said quickly. “We go cake tasting together after your painting sells. Please. I’ll even pray it sells for the highest price.”

I gave a small shrug.

“We’ll see.” But inside my head, I added: *I hope it doesn’t sell at all.* Just so I had an excuse not to go. Then I sighed again, staring out the window.

Why does Lindsay have to be so kind…

…and still have a brother like David Robinson? That man. Human absence of body fat. Walking billboard for underwear brands. Speaking of which— His face flashed again in my memory. Half-naked commercials. Slow motion. Water. Muscles. I groaned.

“Disgusting,” I muttered. And somehow… my day wasn’t even over yet.

  • Fat Girl's Nemesis   20. Butterfly Era of Lindsay

“Why do I feel like Lindsay is so different now?” I asked Dave, who was reading his morning paper. Lindsay would be coming by... at two in the afternoon…bringing Dave’s clean clothes and taking his dirty ones home. But what surprised me was that the clean clothes she brought…had tags from a laundromat nearby, and she seemed to wear almost the same clothes every day. I knew Lindsay, and I knew her, she would probably wear an outfit more than once or twice, but today I saw her wearing a pale yellow mini dress, and this was the fourth time. I’d been hospitalized for two weeks…and Lindsay had already worn it four times? Isn’t that quite strange?“She brought me new clothes…or the clothes I wore yesterday. I have a feeling she didn’t take any new clothes from my apartment…”“You have a CCTV system that you can access through your phone, check it out!” I suggested, to which Dave immediately nodded. If there are no problems, I'll be back today... my body is much fresher and healthier... the

Lindsay's Pov"Marioo...ngghh..." I groaned, going crazy...this man was really making me explode again and again. Mario, the sexy doctor who turned out to be from Brazil...he blew my mind and my anatomy right there. He had an amazing tongue...it was like magic...that tongue...Agh.... Nggh...My brain couldn't even process what was happening, I just felt pleasure over and over again...even though the man was still in his work uniform, we were in his examination room.I know...very sexy, right! When I was about to go home earlier, I met him. He had his bag ready and seemed ready to go home too. He offered to go home with me, and I said yes. Of course...why should I refuse, right? This sexy creature of God was too precious to waste. We entered the empty elevator, and suddenly I went crazy. I accidentally touched the front of his pants. I know...how silly right? At that moment, I wondered if he had a large amount of ammunition, then you pretended to trip and touch it. And… Oh… My… Lord!

  • Fat Girl's Nemesis   18. Confession

Here I am lying on the hospital bed...hugh...Lindsay had already gone home to change her clothes, promising she'd come back to my hospital room afterward. I'd told her not to bother, but my stubborn best friend insisted on returning anyway. She blamed herself for buying me spicy food, convinced my condition was entirely her fault. Of course, her own brother, David, had shamelessly agreed with her.My stomach still felt bloated, and swallowing hurt a little. Other than that, I didn't feel too terrible anymore. The doctor insisted I stay on the IV, even though I found it incredibly uncomfortable. Honestly, I wanted the needle out of my arm already. For the past several minutes, Dave had been forcing spoonful after spoonful of flavorless porridge into my mouth. He held the bowl with one hand while wearing the deepest frown I'd seen all day. Why was he glaring at me like that? Was this really all my fault?...Actually, yes. It was completely my own stupidity. I hadn't taken proper care o

  • Fat Girl's Nemesis   17. A Muscular Hand With a Hint of Cleverness

Lindsay's POVI'd already called Dave, and he said he was on his way to the hospital where Rose had been admitted. How could I have forgotten that Rose suffered from GERD? after all this time...and I am her best besty?! Ugh... Dave was definitely going to kill me for this. The thought alone made my stomach twist with guilt.I sat outside the emergency room while Rose was still being treated. The doctor who had examined her earlier suspected it was her stomach acting up, and after the initial treatment, they decided to admit her for a few days. There was nothing I could do except wait. Every passing minute felt painfully slow."Linds... what happened?" Dave asked the moment he arrived. His forehead was covered in sweat. Had he actually run all the way here? He looked genuinely panicked, and for some reason, that made me feel even worse."Rose was in pain... she ate something spicy, and then she suddenly collapsed," I explained nervously. The expression on Dave's face was terrifying. I

  • Fat Girl's Nemesis   16. Ramen - Tragedy

LLindsay's POVI was genuinely shocked by what I had discovered inside my brother's secret room. So... he had really been obsessed with Rose all this time? After all these years? I still couldn't believe it as I clutched my phone, anxiously waiting for Dave to reply.I was sitting inside Rose's bedroom, a room that had been specially prepared just for her. She was technically an outsider... my best friend, yet Dave had given her a room of her own, while I couldn't even stay in this apartment without getting kicked out sooner or later. That jerk! The unfairness of it all almost made me roll my eyes.Rose was busy in front of the laptop Dave had bought for her. Back then, he claimed it was only for work. Now I wasn't so sure anymore. Looking at her, everything suddenly felt suspicious. How had I never realized any of this before? I couldn't believe my brother had been this crazy about Rose all along. I regretted finding out only now. If only I had known sooner...Ever since last night,

  • Fat Girl's Nemesis   15. Pervert Teaser

"Rose... do you know anything about photography?" Dave asked the moment I opened my eyes. I had barely woken up, while he already looked annoyingly refreshed, his damp hair still dripping from the shower. As usual, he wasn't wearing a shirt, sitting comfortably on the edge of the bed as if walking around half-naked was the most natural thing in the world. Considering how often he posed shirtless for magazine shoots, maybe it really was. "Hmm... not really. Why?" I mumbled, rubbing the sleep from my eyes. My brain hadn't fully connected yet, and trying to process a serious conversation this early in the morning felt almost impossible. Dave remained focused on the laptop resting across his knees, his expression unusually tense. Whatever was on that screen clearly had his full attention. "What happened?" I asked again, quickly wiping the corner of my mouth just in case I'd been drooling in my sleep. Dave noticed the gesture but wisely chose not to comment. Instead, he reached for my ha
