Author: Peach on the Boat
Julian collapsed, bawling like he'd lost his mind.

Meredith looked at him and shook her head.

"Your family spoiled you. They never taught you right from wrong. That's why you turned out like this."

Julian kept screaming.

"Quiet. The surgery's over."

Meredith fell silent immediately and motioned for the bodyguards to drag Julian away.

My head was a mess, so I didn't answer her.Suri didn't push. She showed she cared without crossing the line. She'd only just woken up, so I told her to stop worrying about me and focus on the baby. She always said okay.Somehow, she still knew everything going on in my life.At first, I thought she only wanted our child to grow up with both parents. But later, I realized I hadn't been the only one overthinking our marriage. She had too. After we got married, I was constantly insecure. And because of that, I did plenty of things that got on her nerves."I always felt like we started the wrong way. Like you only ended up with me because of one mistake."You had so many amazing guys around you. I was scared one day you'd notice them and realize I wasn't anything special."One day, I finally told her what had been eating at me."Suri, the gap between us was huge. I never figured out how to deal with it. So when I asked for a divorce, it wasn't all on you. I had my own issues

I knew Suri couldn't hear me, but Meredith's words wouldn't leave my head.I needed to say it out loud."Suri, you don't want kids, right? Fine. Wake up, have the baby, and I'll raise them myself. They'll still call you Mom. You are their mother."Even after the divorce, we can stay civil. But I'm not staying single forever. Someday, your kid might call someone else Mom."I said it just to get a reaction.Truth was, I had no plans to remarry. Maybe I'd date eventually, but marriage? Never again."What about Keira? She's liked me for years, and she saved my life. She might make a decent stepmom—"Suri's finger twitched.Once.But she didn't wake up.Disappointment hit me hard."Suri, I'm serious. If you don't wake up soon, I'm really going to—"Her eyelids fluttered. This time, I knew I hadn't imagined it."Doctor!"My heart leaped as I rushed to call Nina. She was Suri's closest friend. Since the accident, she'd barely left the hospital. She hurried over with Suri's at

We'd never been close, but we respected each other. The doctor walked out.Meredith and I stepped forward together."How is she?"He let out a slow breath."We repaired the injury. Now... it depends on whether she pulls through."He chose his words carefully.Meredith and I both knew what he meant. After a long silence, Suri was moved to a VIP room.Meredith and I walked in t

I frowned and stepped back. Before I could leave, Julian blocked me again."You told her everything, didn't you?""Told her what?" I had no clue what he meant."You told her I'd been making your life hell behind your back. That I was trying to split you two up. That I shoved you into the pool. You ran to her and snitched, didn't you?"I gave a cold laugh."You did all of that. Scared people might find out?""I knew it was you!"He screamed and lunged.I dodged on instinct. Then I saw the knife in his hand.He was trying to kill me.He'd really snapped."Connor!"Someone screamed my name. But the pain never came. When I opened my eyes...Suri was standing in front of me.The knife was buried in her chest.Blood soaked through her clothes as all the color drained from her face.Even then, she kept staring at me, checking if I was okay. She slowly lifted a hand toward my cheek. It dropped before she could reach me."Suri!"I shouted her name. But she couldn't hear

Suri's eyes turned red."You don't want the SUV. You don't want the sports car. What about a house? Company shares? Anything I own... it's yours.""I don't know what else to do."Her voice cracked."We can fight all we want. I just don't want a divorce."I didn't need a public scene, so I grabbed her arm and pulled her into the SUV.Once we started moving, she looked even paler.I sighed. Then asked awkwardly, "You okay?"Suri straightened fast and shook her head."I'm fine..."Then she rested a hand on her stomach, hope written all over her face.I went quiet.I had no idea what to say. After a while, I finally got myself together.I took a breath."Suri, you don't have to do this. I don't blame you anymore. Saving Julian still hurt like hell, but I've made peace with everything else. We were never right for each other."You never made me feel secure, but I had my own issues too. I got jealous. Suspicious. I picked fights and made plenty of mistakes."Looking back, n

No wonder I wanted to forget. No wonder my mind had buried it all. Those memories hurt that bad.My whole body shook.Suri noticed. "What's wrong?""Suri... you make me sick."I stared at her, clutching my chest, then let out a tired breath.Truth was...I made myself sick too.I closed my eyes. Then everything went black.***When I woke up, I was back in a hospital bed.Same doctor as before. She was checking me over while Suri gripped my hand. The second my eyes opened, Suri called out, "Nina, he's awake."Nina checked my eyes. "He's fine. The emotional shock made him pass out. The swelling from his old head injury is down, so he just needs rest."Suri exhaled."When did you hit your head? Why didn't you tell me?"I pulled my hand away.My stare was colder than it had been when I lost my memory.Suri seemed to realize it.Her lips tightened."Connor... you..."I cut her off."It doesn't matter. I want a divorce."She swallowed, bitterness creeping into her
