Chapter 191: Is This Real?

River

My heart was beating so fast I had to clutch my chest just to make sure it hadn’t burst clean out of my ribs.

Hudson hadn’t said a word yet. Not even one.

He stood there in the middle of my bedroom, perfectly still, those cold eyes studying me like I was a problem that needed solving. Calculating. Analyzing. Turning what should have been a simple request into something that felt dangerous under his scrutiny.

Would he agree? Would he turn me down flat? Had he

River is bold I’ll give her that! Got me blushing hard at the interaction between these two. Seems like the unrequited love is not so unrequited if he knows her scent already. He’s used to being so stoic but I think there are cracks starting to form already!

  • From Lies To Loyalty    A Lot Of Work

Chapter 193: A Lot Of Work Reese “God, I hate cemeteries.”Alex had said it at least a hundred times since we arrived, and each repetition scraped further against my nerves. I nearly turned and punched him in the throat. “Good grief. Shut it already,” I hissed under my breath. “You’re the one who insisted on coming along. You were supposed to stay behind and look after Lizzie.”He laughed. “She doesn’t need protecting. She’s very capable of handling herself. If anything, the others in that house are the ones who need protection from her.”I couldn’t help the short laugh that escaped. He wasn’t wrong. Lizzie had a spine of steel and a tongue sharper than most knives in the manor. Still, capability didn’t erase the presence of vipers like Randall and Rosalie. I would always make certain she was safe—whether she needed me to or not.Charlotte and Ramsey would keep an eye on her in our absence. At least, I believed they would. Speaking of Ramsey… I hadn’t seen him at breakfast, nor

  • From Lies To Loyalty    A Statement Of Fact

Chapter 192: A Statement Of Fact River“Can you help me take off my clothes?” I asked again, softer this time, trying to sound more normal than desperate. “My water’s running cold.” The words seemed to pull Hudson out of whatever internal calculation he’d been running. His gaze flicked to the tub, where steam still rose but the water had begun to lose its sharp heat, then returned to me. His fists tightened at his sides, knuckles whitening for a brief second before he forced them to relax. “That is improper, Miss River,” he said, voice low and controlled. “Please be careful what you ask for.”“I’ll decide what is proper.” I lifted my chin, even though my heart was hammering. “Besides, it’s a harmless request, Hudson. I can’t help myself. My ankle—”He didn’t answer immediately. I could almost see the wheels turning behind those cold eyes, weighing risk against duty, desire against discipline—or maybe just deciding how best to shut this down without creating a larger problem. When

Turning what should have been a simple request into something that felt dangerous under his scrutiny.Would he agree? Would he turn me down flat? Had he already figured out that this was more than just a sprained ankle—that I was trying, however clumsily, to seduce him? It was possible. Hudson was terrifyingly smart and alert. Nothing ever seemed to slip past him.He pulled out his phone, typed something short, then slipped it back into his pocket. For some unexplainable reason, I wanted that phone in my hands. I wanted to know who he’d texted and what he’d said. Whether he’d reported to my father that his godson was now being asked to carry h

  • From Lies To Loyalty    Fresh Roses

Chapter 190: Fresh Roses River Reese and Alex left a few minutes later with the promise of checking in whenever they returned. The door closed behind them, leaving the room quieter than it had been all morning. Lizzie stayed, settling at the foot of my bed like she had no intention of going anywhere. Her eyes barely left my bandaged ankle, concern etched into every line of her face. “Does it hurt less now?” she asked, gently lifting the sheet for a closer look. “The swelling’s gone down a little. You should feel relieved now.”“Thanks to Alex,” I said, shifting carefully. The throb was still there, but the sharp edge had dulled into something more manageable. “He’s really good at this. Don't know why he keeps denying it.”Lizzie smiled, then glanced toward the closed door. “Still mad about earlier? Reese can be a little bossy, can’t he?” I swallowed, staring down at my hands. My fingers twisted in the sheets. “He’s right. I probably shouldn’t. Hudson is dangerous and—”“So is my

  • From Lies To Loyalty    Beneath The Frost

Chapter 189: Beneath The Frost River The door burst open without another knock. Reese strode in first, jaw tight with that familiar big-brother worry, his wife right on his heels. She immediately rushed to my side on the bed, her wild hair still messy from sleep and her glasses perched crookedly on her nose. The sight of her made my chest tighten with guilt.“What happened?!” Lizzie asked, eyes wide behind her lenses as she pushed them up the bridge of her nose. She perched on the edge of the mattress, her hand already reaching for mine. “We heard you scream all the way from our room.”I blushed furiously, heat flooding my cheeks. They had plans last night—intimate ones, I was sure. The last thing I wanted was to interrupt their time together or drag them into my mess. “I… fell,” I mumbled, embarrassed. “I’m really sorry for causing you any trouble.”“Why are you apologizing?” Lizzie brushed her hair back with one hand, the other gently lifting my feet to inspect my swollen ank

  • From Lies To Loyalty    A Body Bag

Chapter 188: A Body Bag River The first rays of dawn painted the estate grounds in soft golds and pinks, but my attention was fixed on one man. Hudson. Just like every other morning, he was out there pushing his body to its limits. No shirt, only a pair of black workout shorts that clung to his powerful thighs. Sweat glistened across the hard planes of his chest and abs, catching the light like liquid diamonds. The dog tag he always wore hung from his neck, sticking to his skin with every intense movement. I couldn’t stop watching. I never could. From the safety of my window, peeking through the narrow slit in the heavy curtains, I drank in every detail. My heart raced in that familiar, dangerous rhythm it always did around him. Calder Hudson wasn’t just a man—he was a force. Cold. Strong. A frost king who made my blood run hot despite the ice in his veins. This morning felt different, though. More intense. His punches and kicks landed on the makeshift bag with terrifying for
