LOGINSienna's POV
The softness of the bed was different. I opened my eyes gently, remembering where I was. My old bed had been ironed. Hard. Cold. Something that matched the life I had been living. Waking up in luxury reminded me of my new reality. A reality I still wasn't quite sure was real.
I sat up, stretching my arms above my head. The silk sheets felt smooth against my skin. I remembered what today was all about. The legal stamping of the marriage agreement. And dinner with Sebastian's parents tonight. Both felt equally terrifying.
I got under the hot water of the tub, letting it fill with warmth. I washed myself slowly, letting the heat absorb into my body. I closed my eyes, focusing on the silence in the bathroom. The silence around me.
But silence never stayed with me for long.
I could hear faint voices below. Car honks on the street. The drop of water from the faucet. And then the flashes came. They always came when I was alone.
"I JUST USED YOU TO FIND MY REAL LOVE."
Dominic's voice. Cold. Calculated. Cruel.
Laughter. So much laughter. The sound of people finding entertainment in my pain.
The sound of gurgling. Water in my lungs. My body going under.
"YOUR PARENTS DIED IN AN ACCIDENT, YOU WOULD HAVE TO STAY AT THE ORPHANAGE FOR THE MEAN TIME, SIENNA."
A woman's voice. Harsh. Impersonal. The caseworker who had told me my world was ending.
"I LIKE YOU SIENNA. BE MY GIRLFRIEND."
Dominic again. So charming. So convincing. So full of lies.
"WHY DO YOU THINK YOU WERE TARGETED BY DOMINIC? THINK OF THIS AS HELPING EACH OTHER."
Sebastian's voice. But this time it felt different. This time it felt like another lie.
Ding dong! Ding dong!
The sound of the doorbell pushed me out of my spiraling flashes.
I sat up immediately, gasping for breath. Water cascaded down my face and down my body. My heart was racing. My hands were shaking.
"Good morning, ma'am," a lady's voice called from outside the bathroom door. "Breakfast is ready to serve."
I could hear footsteps retreating away. My breath evened. It had been a while since I had flashes like this. The words that a woman I did not know had said to me a week after my parents died, telling me I had to go to the orphanage. But right now, with everything that had happened recently, the flashes had come back. Stronger. Louder. More vivid.
I braced up. I could handle it. I had always handled it. I got out of the tub and did the other things. Dried myself. Got dressed.
Thirty minutes later, I was standing in front of the mirror wearing a floral gown I had always had eyes on. It was expensive. The kind of thing I could never afford before. But now I had it right on my body. My fingers traced the delicate embroidery at the neckline.
I blow-dried my hair carefully, oiling through it with my fingers, and packed it into a ponytail. I added a little makeup. I looked vibrant. I looked ready for whatever today would bring. I looked like someone who belonged in this world.
I got out of the elevator to the vibrance of the living room. It was shining. Luxurious. A few staff members in the same uniforms were cleaning everything. I saw no dirt but all they did was clean and clean. This was on another level. This world. His world.
A chef came forward, his expression professional and courteous.
"Ma'am, we prepared pasta carbonara with pan-seared scallops and a side of fresh fruit. Do you want us to change anything in the course?" he asked.
I stared at the sumptuous breakfast spread in front of me. This was way too nice for just a breakfast. Did Sebastian reject food? How would he prepare such nice foods and then not eat them?
"No, it's nice. I'm okay with it," I said.
I sat on the chair and looked around. Now that I was here, why hadn't I seen Sebastian come down? I shrugged it off and dug in, cutting into the perfectly cooked eggs and toast.
A few minutes later, my phone rang. It was him. His name gliding across the screen as I had saved it: Sebastian Ashford. I chuckled before picking up.
"Hello. Good morning," he greeted with that relaxed, unhurried tone that suddenly made my heart do strange things.
"Hello," I replied subtly, trying to keep my voice neutral.
"I needed to attend to some matters as quickly as possible. I would be back in a few minutes with the lawyer," he said.
"Alright then," I replied.
There was silence at his end for a few seconds. Like he was hesitating on something. Like there was something he wanted to say but couldn't quite find the words.
"My mum could not wait to meet you," he said gently.
I cut a piece of beef and put it in my mouth, smiling even though he couldn't see me.
"I hope she won't be disappointed," I replied.
The silence again. I could hear his breathing underneath the line. His breathing was steady. Controlled. But there was something else there too. Something I couldn't quite identify.
Then an intercom interrupted the silence.
"Sir, Mr. George is here," a voice said through the speaker on his end.
"I see you have work to do," I chipped in.
"Yeah. Would be there soon," he said.
The call ended as I slowly scooped more of the pasta into my fork and put it in my mouth. What was with all the silence with him? Was there something he wanted to say and he was hesitating about it? I tilted my head, thinking about his voice. About the way he said his mother was waiting to meet me. There was something underneath those words. Something he wasn't saying.
My phone rang again, diverting my thoughts.
It was an unknown number.
I stared at the screen for a moment before answering.
"Hello, Sienna. It's been a while," a feminine voice said.
I was hearing right. I knew this voice. I had definitely heard it somewhere before. A long time ago. A voice I had tried to forget.
"Who is this?" I asked, my fork pausing midway to my mouth.
"Oh, my baby, it's nice hearing your voice again," the middle-aged feminine voice said. "I am sorry I said you should stay at the orphanage for the meantime, but I totally forgot you there."
My entire body went cold.
I knew this voice now. It was the caseworker from the orphanage. The woman who had placed me there when I was six years old. The woman who had told me my parents were gone and I had no one left in the world. The woman I hadn't heard from in over 20 years.
"What do you want?" I asked, my voice suddenly very quiet.
Sienna's POVWe walked into the bustling building. As soon as they sensed his presence, heads were turning. Bowing. Eyes on us. Especially on me. Eyes wondering who was this new lady walking side by side with their boss. They didn't know yet. I was about to become their CEO.I saw the assistant coming toward us in a black corporate suit with two men in tow. She moved with the precision of someone who had been doing this for years. Everything about her screamed efficiency."Good morning, Mr. Sebastian," she greeted with a slight bow."The board is ready?" he asked, his voice suddenly serious. Not the warm, teasing voice I had recognized two minutes ago in the car. I wondered how many sides this man had. Warm in one minute. Cold and serious in a few seconds. Like flipping a switch."Yes, sir. They are waiting in the conference room," she replied. Her eyes flipped to me, and she bowed lightly."Hello, Mrs. Sienna," she greeted with a knowing smile. She already knows? I thought, my pulse
Sienna's POVThe day I was not expecting to arrive so quickly had come. I stood in front of the mirror, dressed in a powerful dress. It was a tailored navy blue suit with a crisp white silk blouse underneath. The jacket hugged my waist perfectly, showing off the curves I had hidden away for so long. The skirt fell just below the knee. Everything about it screamed confidence. Everything about it screamed power. This was a dress for someone becoming a CEO.I moved my hair to the other side, exposing my neck adorned with a necklace Sebastian had bought yesterday. He had called it one of the benefits of this marriage. I did not read any deeper meaning into it. What I had acquired in this agreement were benefits. Nothing more. Nothing less.Dominic and his cohorts had no idea what was about to happen today. I bet the news is going to be a shock to the whole world. The girl he had discarded. The girl he had thrown in a pool. The girl he had used and abused. That girl was about to become the
Sienna's POV"Honey, don't start in her presence," Mrs. Linda said, her voice carrying a warning."What? Sebastian is trying to prevent a simple greeting," his father replied, his tone sharp.Amidst the affection, there was still some hidden grudge within this family. I could feel it. The tension. The unspoken words. The anger simmering just below the surface."Dad?" Sophia yelled, frustration written all over her face.Victor raised his hands as he walked over to his seat beside his wife. I turned at Sebastian. He wasn't saying anything, and I wondered what the silence meant. What was he thinking? What was he protecting?"I'm sorry, sir, for the misunderstanding," I started to say."Can we get into what we came here for? I just came here to make you know my wife and not intimidate her," Sebastian suddenly said. His voice was cold and serious. There was a brief silence. I was getting very uncomfortable with the interaction. The way his father looked at me. The way his mother kept stud
Sebastian's POVI was amused by where that boldness was coming from."And why do you want me to put you in that position?" I teased, leaning back slightly to study her reaction. She was serious. Dead serious."An idea just popped into my head," she started to explain.I chuckled, cutting her words short. She tilted her head, an eyebrow raised at my interruption."I know this request is out of nowhere, and I shouldn't be asking," she continued, her voice uncertain."Deal," I said simply. She froze and leaned back, surprise clearly written all over her face."That was quite fast. I mean, I was expecting you to disagree with me," she said."Do you want me to withdraw my answer back?" I asked, knowing full well what her response would be."No, no," she said quickly. There was a brief silence between us. I could see her mind working, trying to understand my quick acceptance. But she didn't need to understand. Not yet."These are things to do to make this marriage look real. And since you p
Dominic's POVI sat under the large umbrella in the picnic resort I had bought for our honeymoon. Katherine rested her head on my arm as we watched the lapping of the sea. The waves were calm. Everything was perfect. Everything was exactly as planned."Babe, you know sometimes looking at those waves reminded me of my childhood days," she said, her voice soft and dreamy."Really?" I asked, not really listening. My mind was elsewhere. On the empire I was building. She looked up, the hat making her face smaller, more delicate."Yes, you know, being an heiress to my royal family... You understand," she said."Of course I do, my love," I replied, kissing the top of her head. She rested back on my arm, sipping the fruit juice on the fancy table beside us. For a moment, I felt nothing but contempt for her. She was useful. She was beautiful. She was a means to an end. "I heard someone caused some trouble at the reception," she asked suddenly. I raised an eyebrow to her question, not expectin
Sebastian's POV"These are all the documents, sir," the private investigator said, placing the file on my table. I stared at it like something that would pounce on me if I stared at the devastating content inside it for too long.I couldn't bring myself to open it. Not yet. Not when I knew what it contained. Not when I knew what it would mean."I had to carefully access the server," the investigator continued. "Unfortunately, it was so exposed I think the person had forgotten it needed more tight security.""Or maybe they thought no one could think of that side," I completed, still not raising my head from the file."Yes, sir, that is true. The documents in the file are just receipts from Ashford Holdings. I was surprised it did not show who signed it off."I looked up at him then. His expression was careful. Measured. Like he was trying to soften the blow of what he was about to tell me."What do you mean? You said my father authorized the payment," I said, my voice steady even thoug
Sienna's POVI sat opposite him at the dining table. The spread was extraordinary. Multiple courses, each one more beautiful than the last. There were plates with food I couldn't even name. Vegetables I had never seen before. Fish that looked like it had been caught that morning. Meat that probably
Sienna's POVWaking up to a new morning meant waking up to a white Bentley parked in front of the apartment I was managing. A man and a lady in crisp black and white uniforms stood in front of my door, both smiling like they had known me their entire lives."Good morning, Mrs. Sienna," the lady sai
Sebastian's POVI sat in the back of my Aston Martin, scrolling through my tablet for the daily hand exercise game I did when I was stressed out. It was the most peaceful thing right now. The numbers and patterns kept my mind occupied. Kept me from thinking about things I didn't want to think about
Sienna's POVI folded my hands on my hips, wondering at the audacity of this man. The way he sat there like he knew everything about me. Like he had studied my life and found it entertaining."Well I know many things," Sebastian said, standing up from his desk. "Why do you think he never publicized
