Chapter 1

Author: Kaka Mountain
My eldest brother, Adam Chapman, was the first to snap out of it. He shoved Sunny Sinclair aside and dropped to his knees beside me, trying to ease me down flat on my back.

"Nance! Nance, look at me! It's me, Adam! Take a deep breath!"

My second brother, Beau Chapman, came scrambling over, practically falling to the floor beside me. His hands shook as he frantically dug through my bag, searching for my medication.

My third brother, Claude Chapman, was a doctor. His face had gone pale as he pressed a finger beneath my nose, his voice trembling with panic. "Oxygen! Get the portable oxygen tank now!"

Sunny, who had been protected behind my brothers just moments ago, was now curled up in a corner, petrified. Tears streamed down her face.

"I-I didn't know Ms. Chapman would react like this. I just wanted to touch the bracelet. Is she mad at me? I-I'm so scared."

Hearing that fake, overly sweet voice of hers made my breathing grow even more labored.

I had always suffered from severe sensory hypersensitivity. When I was a baby, if the temperature in my room changed by even half a degree, I would cry all night until my lips turned blue.

If a single loose thread in my clothes brushed against me, my skin would break out in large patches of red rashes.

After our parents passed away, my brothers took turns holding me through countless sleepless nights. Whenever they carried me, they barely even dared to breathe too heavily.

No one understood my condition better than they did, yet today, for an intern they had barely known for three months, they let her wear the custom-made gown I treasured most and destroyed the only keepsake Mom had left me.

Claude pressed the oxygen mask over my face, but I clenched my teeth and refused to breathe, no matter what. "Nance, please, I'm begging you! Just inhale!"

I stared at him with wide, tear-filled eyes. Tears slipped down the corners of my eyes as my chest heaved violently from the lack of oxygen.

Sunny was still crying softly nearby. "Claude, is she just trying to scare us? Back in the countryside, I got bitten by dogs before and didn't even act this dramatically."

I ripped the oxygen mask off my face and pointed at her, screaming hysterically, "Who do you think you are, comparing me to you and a dog? Get out! Get out of my house!"

I screamed until my voice broke, scratching wildly at my neck. In an instant, my pale skin was covered with streaks of bloody scratches.

Adam grabbed my hands like he was losing his mind. "Nance, I'm sorry! I shouldn't have yelled at you!"

My reaction shook Sunny. She probably thought I would act like those arrogant heiresses on TV, looking down on her and slapping her across the face.

What she didn't understand, though, was that people with severe sensory hypersensitivity and overwhelming episodes didn't always care about their own safety once they broke down.

Sunny bit her lip, looking wronged. "Adam… I know I spoke without thinking, but how could she tell me to leave? It's pouring outside."

By then, I was utterly consumed by my emotions. I tore myself free from Adam's grip and grabbed the fruit knife from the table. "Leave, or I'll kill myself!"

The blade pressed against my neck.

Beau collapsed to his knees in fear. "Put the knife down, Nance! Please, I'm begging you!"

I stared straight at Sunny, madness burning in my eyes. "Aren't you Sunny the Sunshine? Aren't you the one who's so sensible and down-to-earth? What's a few raindrops going to do to you? Now, get out!"

Her face turned deathly pale as she turned to my brothers for help. This time, none of them dared to meet her eyes.

Adam clenched his jaw and pointed toward the door. "Sunny, I want you to leave. Now."

Six months later, I stood on the award stage at Clairmont Fashion Week, dressed in haute couture.Under the flashing lights, I smiled with radiating confidence. There was no trace of the once fragile and highly sensitive heiress who needed her brothers to protect her, no more of that woman who would break down whenever her emotions overwhelmed her. After the ceremony ended, Elliot handed me a glass of warm water backstage. The temperature was still precisely 98.6 degrees."Congratulations, Chief Designer," he said with a smile.I accepted the glass and took a sip. "Thank you for everything you've graciously done for me this past year."He raised an eyebrow. "Graciously?"He stepped closer, backing me against the edge of the vanity. "Nancy Chapman, after everything I've done for you, don't you think it's time to repay me a little?"I looked at his face so close to mine, a smile creeping onto my lips. "What do you want, Mr. Henderson?"Elliot lowered his head, just enough for hi

After that night, the Chapman family became the city's laughingstock.Sunny, whose real name was Mary, was officially arrested on charges of commercial fraud, document forgery, and attempted murder.Inside Chapman Group, Elliot took the shares I had authorized him to utilize and intervened with ruthless efficiency. The veteran shareholders behind Mary's scheme, who manipulated everything from the shadows, were uprooted. He sent them all to prison.Chapman Group's stock price plummeted. Adam, overwhelmed by guilt and anger, spent two weeks hospitalized. On the day he was discharged, he, Beau, and Claude blocked the entrance to Elliot's estate. Rain poured from the sky. The three once-untouchable heirs of the Chapman family stood outside like stray dogs. For an entire night, they stayed there in the rain. The next morning, I walked outside holding an umbrella. The moment Beau saw me, he stumbled forward. "Nance, you finally agreed to see us!"His body was soaked through. His lips

Adam gritted his teeth and stepped forward as well. "Nancy, I'm begging you…"He lowered his head, his voice hoarse as he spoke to me. "For Billy's sake, for the man who sacrificed his life for us back then, withdraw the charges. Whatever compensation you want, I'll give it to you."I looked at them, so stubbornly refusing to see the truth. Suddenly, I felt nothing but pity. They were my brothers, yet for a debt of gratitude that didn't even exist, they were willing to abandon every boundary they once had."Adam, was your brain eaten by maggots?" I pulled a thick stack of documents from my bag and threw them in his face. "Open your eyes and see for yourselves. You'll find out if she's actually Billy's daughter."The documents were scattered across the floor. The one on top was a DNA test report. Claude picked it up with trembling hands. His eyes fell on the final line that read, "No biological relationship confirmed.""No way…" he mumbled.Elliot laughed coldly. "Billy's dau

When Adam, Beau, and Claude saw the document, their expressions shifted. Beau stepped in front of Sunny, shielding her behind him as he glared at me."Nancy, haven't you caused enough trouble? You were the one who said those sketches were waste paper. She was only trying to help you clean up."You even signed the designs away and gave them to her. Now that she's turned them into a finished collection, you've seriously come to steal her spotlight?"I looked at his self-righteous expression, finding it almost comical. "I signed them away?"I sneered, my eyes landing on the document in Sunny's hands. "Signature forgery is a criminal offense, Sunny."She shrank back in fear, tears rolling down her cheeks. "I didn't! That day, after you poured paint over my head, I was cleaning the floor when you threw the agreement at me. You said that as long as I signed it, those waste papers would belong to me."Claude wrapped an arm around her protectively, his face full of pity. He then turned

When I opened my eyes again, I wasn't on a flight to Silvania. Instead, I was lying in a lavish, elegantly furnished bedroom.A faint scent of agarwood lingered in the air, and the room was kept at a precise 76.1 degrees, the temperature I found most comfortable.A deep, commanding voice came from somewhere nearby. "You're up."I turned my head. Seated in the shadows was a man I recognized immediately. It was Elliot Henderson, the most respected man in the city and also the business rival my brothers feared more than anyone.I pushed myself upright, my throat still dry. "What brings you to the business of kidnapping people halfway through their journey, huh, Mr. Henderson?"Elliot walked over and handed me a glass of water. It was exactly 98.6 degrees."The Chapman brothers have lost their minds. They were actually going to send their sister to a psychiatric hospital. I happened to pass by, so I decided to pick up a bargain."He looked at me, amusement flickering in his deep e

My smile made the smug expression on Sunny's face freeze in place. She probably thought I would react like I always did, that my overwhelming episodes would cause me to break down or scream in panic. But I didn't.I simply got out of bed, reached for the fruit knife Sunny had left on the bedside table, and picked it up.Sunny yelped, and the apple slipped from her hand and rolled across the floor. I cornered her against the wall. "You enjoyed adding peanut butter to my oats, huh?"She trembled uncontrollably. Lost was the vicious and confident expression she had worn moments ago. "Ms. Chapman, please spare me… I was wrong. I'll never do it again!"I leaned close to her ear, but my voice was strangely polite. "Weren't you just so cocky? Come on. Keep taunting me."Just then, the hospital door was kicked open. Adam rushed in and roared, "Nancy, what on earth are you doing?"Beau and Claude followed right behind him. When they saw the scene, their faces dropped. Claude reacted th
