CHAPTER 2

The first time Saul hit me, I was twelve.

He was fourteen and Grace had pushed me so the cup of lemonade I was taking to his elder sister had poured on him.

He'd been so pissed that he did it before thinking, like a normal bodily function.

I was shocked, he was shocked, the entire small crowd packed in the middle of the Parlour gasped loudly.

Then the Alpha's voice, my father, boomed from the door.

“Maya, stop being such a clumsy idiot and do what you're told!”

That was all the go-ahead anyone needed to torture me for the past six years.

“Today is your birthday,” he breathed, looking down on me in my bloodied clothes.

Blood that poured from the wounds he'd inflicted on me earlier.

They were all healed now, but I bled through the night and it showed on the yellow dress.

“Yes,” I answered, scared of the rage I saw in his eyes.

Rage and disbelief, a little bit of lust.

Okay, not so little, I looked down out of fear and saw his hard… member.

“This must be a mistake,” he spat, “the goddess can't have meant this. You're a mistake.”

“Yes,” I sniffled, holding the tears in my throat so hard but I couldn't.

Not with the pain I knew was coming.

“You're so pathetic, you can't even come up with more words than that! Always agreeing to everything anyone says. You're weak, a wasteful excuse for an Alpha's child. I should accept you and become the Alpha after your father dies but I'd rather bathe in lava than touch you with a nine-inch pole!”

My knees connected to the ground before I could stop it, his words piled in my head, my body shaking.

Before now, I heard these words and kind of grew a tough skin against them.

But now, coming from the man I'd metaphorically daydreamed for years to save me, it broke me.

Saul zeroed in on my weakness, slowly going to his knees and I felt his hands grab my shoulders.

“Here’s what's going to happen Maya. I’m going to reject you now. Your father will die without a child, and I will become the Alpha. You on the other hand, you better pray you're dead by the time that happens.”

“But –”

“Shut your mouth!” He snapped, “learn your place. You don't talk when I'm talking. I would have left this mark stay, punish you further for as long as I wish but the mere thought of people knowing you're connected to me gives me a migraine. So when I reject you, you must stay here, endure the pain. Quietly!”

“Okay,” I sobbed with quivering lips.

“Don't ever open your filthy mouth to tell anyone about it. You hear me?!”

“Yes.”

“Good. I, Saul Wilde, reject you…” he paused for a second, “Maya Sofie Blakewood as my mate.”

The bond snapped like a rubber band pulled too far and I felt it everywhere — chest, throat, behind my eyes.

But I didn't make a sound.

It was the most difficult thing in the world, holding my wolf down, struggling to keep the pain inside but I did, I held strong and I shut my eyes tightly.

If he was waiting for me to crumble in front of him he was going to wait a very long time.

But he wasn't, he stormed out of the room with loud, angry steps, leaving me to break into tiny pieces.

“I accept your rejection, Saul Wilde,” I muttered under my breath, letting go of everything that once connected us.

Along with the hopes of ever escaping the hell I'd grown up in.

It was clear, I was going to die in Greyhound Pack, if not at the hands of my father who detests my existence for killing his mate, then my former mate will finish the job.

***

Four hours later, I finally stopped crying.

Usually it takes 5 minutes max to come to terms with my reality – everybody hates me, I should have been a boy, my father hates me, I'm too weak to be a female Alpha and what else? I'm ugly as hell.

But now, knowing I'll never leave this place because the mate I was hoping would charge in and rescue and take me away from here was none other than Saul, the Beta's son who enjoyed tormenting me.

It's like he's unable to breathe properly if I wasn't in pain.

Everyday.

His rejection made sense, there was no coming back from the hell he put me through and the ones he made others put me through.

But as much as that hurt, what broke me was knowing he's right, my lineage would end with me, the Blakewood dynasty would end because I didn't come out of my mother's womb calmly.

I caused her to bleed and was crying so much that the midwife left her to come attend to me and the bleeding got out of control and she died.

And because of me, Beta Angus' son, a cruel wolf, will take over and run this Pack to the ground, after killing me of course.

So before it all began, I decided to mourn it, if only to be better prepared for the pain that lay ahead.

I was about to slink off to sleep, my only reprieve when I heard footsteps heading my way.

The store was away from the rest of the Pack house so it was only my room that could be the direction this person was headed.

I inhaled deeply.

My father.

I jumped off the bed and quickly headed to the door before he could get to it.

He pushed it open so hard that my knees buckled as I stepped back and I stilled as he looked at me.

“Good afternoon Alpha,” I greeted, addressing him the only way he accepted.

He would do anything to ensure I wasn't related to him but alas, fate was stubborn.

“I have finally found a use for your existence,” he grunted after looking me up and down an uncomfortable number of times.

His words made me perk up.

“What?”

“You will ask no questions, you will keep your head down and you will do exactly as you're told. Understand me?”

His Alpha command was strong, leaking from his pores and wrapping me in a vice grip.

What could this be that had him so tense and aggressive?

“Yes Alpha,” I accepted my fate.

Anything was better than death.

Right?

  • His Defiant Little Breeder   Chapter 166

The Pack gathered after we'd gotten some food into everyone which was a lot especially on such short notice. It was past midnight, but Iron Claw and the Allied Packs gathered together under the moonlight and we made our plans. Gertrude has cooked a special herb in a very large pot and she took her time, touching everyone's forehead with it. A protection that I hoped would work some magic on Caden. I'd put him in our room but I had gotten some warriors to install an iron door in there. Then I moved Aida to the Alpha's house, alongside fifteen other warriors. They weren't just keeping him safe, they were keeping him locked. The meeting was short; it was simply to let everyone know what was going to happen, and luckily, the Iron Claw warriors were happy with the plan. Then I went back to my mate. He held me throughout the night, and I taught him how to caress my scalp the way he used to, and he did that until I fell asleep. But bright and early the next morning, we were up. Th

I brought Caden down from the room carefully, one arm wrapped tight around his waist. He walked beside me like a caged storm, yellow eyes darting everywhere, muscles coiled so tight I could feel them vibrating through his shirt. My heart beat wildly, who knows how he'll react around people? The moment we stepped out of the Pack house, everyone froze.Hundreds of eyes turned to us.Shit.Fear rippled through the crowd like a wave and I watched it with clenching fists. Warriors who had fought beside Caden for years took instinctive steps back. Mothers pulled their children closer. Caden's lips pulled back, showing feral teeth.Killian, standing at the front with the other Alphas, took one hopeful step forward."Brother..."A savage snarl ripped out of Caden's throat. He lunged half a step, claws flashing.I cursed, yanking him back by the arm. I barely held him.Killian jerked back just in time, hands raised, a forced laugh breaking from his throat though his eyes were wide. "Whoa, e

The meeting dragged on for another hour, but the energy in the hall had finally shifted. Plans were being made. Teams assigned. Supplies gathered. For the first time since we arrived, the Alphas and warriors looked like they had a purpose again instead of just fear.I looked outside the windows and realised evening had fallen.Shit, Caden hadn't eaten.Killian stood at the front, arms crossed, voice steady as he made the final call.Thank goodness, my ass ached and not in a good way.“We go as a large army to Iron Claw first,” he declared. “We retrieve more warriors, secure the territory, and most importantly, we keep Caden where he won’t be taken no matter what happens. He stays under our protection until we destroy Derrick and his band of rogues."Murmurs of agreement rippled through the room. No one argued. The decision felt right.I stood slowly, my body still aching from the night before, my heart heavy wi

The hall buzzed with voices, each one louder than the last. We'd been at this for the last two hours.I'd thought giving them hope and direction would make much of a difference but no, Derrick was in too deep now, too powerful and everyone else was so terrified it was like an elephant matching on ants.Which is crazy because he's a weakling, always running behind stronger people, yet, he now has ten strong warriors who will suck his damn cock if he asked them to.I want to say we should wait it out but I don't think I want to leave my son in the hands of a desperate coward.I tuned into the meeting again and nearly groaned.“We hit their supply lines again — harder this time,” a warrior shouted. “Starve them out like they tried to starve us!”Alpha Jon shook his head immediately. “We tried that two weeks ago. They reinforced the routes with three times the guards. We lost twelve good men for nothing.” Alpha Tok

The hall was packed within minutes.Killian had sent word the second Fiona told him I was ready, and wolves from the four different Packs filled every bench and lined the walls. Iron Claw should be here too but no one can leave this Pack if it's not for hunting or it's time to fight.Security was very tight, I don't know how I didn't notice that when we were coming in.I walked into the large hall that was usually used for parties and all eyes turned to me, and I looked at them as well. The air was thick with tension, anger, and fear. Some were still wincing from unhealed wounds from recent fights. Others looked like they've lost all hope and are just here because of their Alphas.I walked to the front where Killian stood, his hands behind his back. My body still felt strange — heavier in some places, empty in others. My breasts were sore and leaking, a constant painful reminder that my son was somewhere else

I slipped out of the room quietly, legs still trembling, my body marked and aching in the most intimate ways. I made my way to the bathroom on shaky feet, the evidence of what we’d just done leaking down my thighs with every step.Cold water cascaded over me as I stood under the shower, trying to scrub myself clean. But no matter how hard I scrubbed, I couldn’t wash away the guilt. Our little boy was still out there. In Derrick's cruel hands. Crying for me, for the bond we're supposed to be creating, for breast milk that's currently wasting away. Possibly hurting. Goddess above, what if he's hurting him in a bid to get to to me?Testing his blood? And I had just spent hours letting Caden fuck me like a feral animal in heat — screaming, squirting, begging for more while our baby was missing.Tears mixed with the water on my face. I pressed my forehead against the cool stone wall and sobbed quietly, should

CADEN'S POV I was in that spot for hours. You'd expect a sense of urgency to settle over me, you'd expect me to lose my shit, to throw caution to the wind and start running like a headless chicken. And one part of my body screamed for that, screamed for me to make the world bleed, to feel my pain

  • His Defiant Little Breeder   Chapter 120

I don't know when I fell asleep, but I was being hoisted off the ground with the chains digging into my stomach when I woke up.The pain was sharp and breathing was difficult.I tried talking but that stupid, smelling cloth dug deeper into my mouth and I just changed my mind about it. When she drag

  • His Defiant Little Breeder   Chapter 119

My eyes fluttered open quietly. My hands tried to stretch out for Caden on the bed, as I usually did every morning, but I was confused to find out I couldn't move them. That's when I woke up. "Sofie!" "I've been trying to wake you up for the past hour! She's gone, we need to run now!" "Run? Go

  • His Defiant Little Breeder   Chapter 118

CADEN'S POV We'd been running for three days. I didn't let anyone take even as little as a water break. We ran through the snow, forests, dirt and muddy paths and at night or in the stubborn sunlight. And the closer I got to the Pack, the tenser I got So I urged everyone to run faster.
