Chapter 5

Maya was right. I just couldn’t take this and I needed to make a plan but before I had even thought of one, I had already drowned four bottles of alcohol and still thinking, ‘yeah, one more might fix this.’

Maya had left after she had a call from her current boyfriend. She didn’t stay long enough for me to get his name.

My head spun slightly. Even still drunk, I could still see that stupid video playing in my head.

The way he looked at her.

I took another sip.

“Idiot,” I whispered. “You’re such a fucking idiot.”

Then the door opened. I didn’t bother looking up but I knew it was Victor who was back from his law firm.

“Lyra,” he said, voice barely audible. His eyes scanned the room, the bottles, the glass and me sitting on the floor like I had lost a fight with life.

His jaw tightened. He looked at me mortified but I was honestly too tired to care. I lifted the glass slightly.

Before it touched my lips, he snatched the cup from my hand.

“Hey…” I tried to grab it back but he moved faster, placing it out of reach.

“What is wrong with you?” he snapped. I eyed him. He didn’t have the right to judge my life when he hadn’t even lived it yet.

“You are rude,” I slurred. He ignored me as he went to set everything aside before turning back to me.

“Talk to me,” he commanded.

I rolled my eyes. Look at him acting all high and mighty like hey, I am rich and I have a perfect life. Tell me your problems and I would make it go away.

They were all hypocrites. All of them. I stared up at the ceiling like the solution to my problem could probably be written up there.

“Victor?” I called. “Why does no one want me?”

I glanced at him.

Victor went still immediately.

“Lyra…”

“No, seriously,” I cut in, pushing myself up. “Four years Victor. Four years of giving him everything and he still…” I swallowed, clutching my chest. “He still chose someone else.”

“That doesn’t mean you’re not enough.”

“It literally does,” I snapped. “He said it himself. I am not fit to be Mrs. Cole. I’m too… what was it?” I laughed bitterly. “Loose? Easy? Have no boundaries? Take your pick.”

Victor’s expression darkened.

“Are you angry?”

“That what?”

“I am speaking about your friend like this?”

Victor knelt in front of me, holding my face in his hands. “Any man that treats a girl like he did doesn’t deserve to remain my friend.”

I shook my head, looking away. “You sound very confident for someone who barely knows me.”

“I do,” he insisted. “I’ve seen you. The way you take care of people. The way you put everyone else before yourself. That’s not ‘easy.’ That’s rare.”

I let out a dry laugh. “Yeah? Tell that to him.”

“I don’t need to,” Victor said, now readjusting himself between me so that he could have access to my face clearer. “His opinion doesn’t define you.”

I scoffed. What he didn’t know was if that was the man who had ever loved you your entire life, it kind of mattered.

The problem was that I loved him too much.  “How the hell am… I supposed to just… let go?”

Victor didn’t answer immediately and he really didn’t need to. I was only talking to myself but he surprised me when he asked. “What if you didn’t have to let it go?”

I frowned, opening my eyes. What the hell was he talking about?

“What if,” he continued, “you made him regret it instead?”

I swallowed.

“…what are you talking about Victor?”

Victor leaned back slightly, studying me.

“You asked why no one wants you,” he said. “That’s not true. But if you want proof…” he tilted his head. “Why not make him see what he has really lost?”

I stared at him. I didn’t even know what to say other than. “That sounds like a brilliant but terrible idea.”

He laughed and that warmed my heart. I hadn’t seen him laugh once.

“Oh, this is exactly what you need.” He said, completely ignoring me.

I crossed my arms. “So, you are talking about revenge.”

He shrugged. “Call it whatever you want.”

My fingers curled into my gown. A part of me, very stupid, very emotional part of me, was listening.

“And how exactly do you plan on doing that?”

Victor stood and lifted me onto the chair. He leaned closer to me until I could smell the scent of something chocolatey on him. “We make him jealous.”

“Oh, that’s all?” I muttered. “Easy. Let me just go find someone to…”

He didn’t look away. He stared at me for a moment, waiting for me to understand what he was saying but I couldn’t. Couldn’t this guy understand that my brain was already filled up?

He raised an eyebrow.

And then it fucking clicked.

I shook my head. “Hell, no!”

“Think about it, What if you marry me…”

“Marry…”

“No,” he cut me off. “We are faking it, of course”

Faking it? It sounds ridiculous and messy and I was already a disaster. I didn’t need to add fake relationships to the list!

“Do you want him back?” he urged.

My throat tightened because I knew the honest answer already.

“Yes,” I admitted. “Okay? Yes. I do. I want him to look at me and realize he made a mistake. I want him to…” I exhaled. “I want him to regret it.”

There was still one question that lingered in my mind but what if I didn’t want him anymore?

I shrugged, I guess it wouldn’t hurt either ways because there was no way, no fucking way that he would walk away from hurting me like this.

“But what about your relationship with Ronan?” I asked. “Wouldn’t this affect you?”

He waved me off. “Do you agree or not?”

“Fine. Let’s do this.”

His smile widened.

“Well, we have an engagement to announce,” Victor said, gaze locking onto mine. “and trust me, we’re going to make the entire world feel it.”

  • His Ex Is Now A Billionaire's Wife   Chapter 116

I was pregnant right now. Sure, this baby hadn't come into my life under the best circumstances, and yes, I'd once threatened Victor with an abortion just to scare him, but deep down I had known I could never go through with something like that. Not in this lifetime. Not even in my worst nightmare. This little life growing inside me was a part of me.No matter how complicated everything became, no matter how broken my marriage got or how much my world collapsed around me, I already loved this baby more than I could explain. If anyone tried to hurt my child, they would have to go through me first.Maybe that was what people meant when they talked about motherly instincts. They just... happened. No one taught you.One day you were thinking only about yourself, then suddenly every decision became about protecting someone who hadn't even been born yet. That was why I couldn't understand my own mother. How could someone carry a child for nine months, give birth to them, watch them grow...

Kelly shifted a little to give me space beside Nana's bed even though she really didn't need to. There was more than enough room for both of us.As I stood next to her, I had to remind myself to keep my face calm. Kelly had absolutely no idea what I'd done to her.She didn't know my father was the reason she'd been dragged into prison. She didn't know I had stood by while she was blamed for crimes she never committed. She didn't know the woman she was standing beside, comforting and worrying over, had directly become the reason her life fell apart.Worst of all… She looked at me with nothing but kindness."She's such a sweet angel," Kelly whispered as she looked back at Nana's unconscious body. "I don't think I'd even be alive without her."I looked between Kelly and Nana. "She saved your life?""In a way." Kelly smiled sadly. "When I found out about... myself... she was the first person who encouraged me not to hate who I was."I frowned. For a second I thought she was talking about

Both Ronan and Victor seemed to care about only one thing the moment they stepped into my room. Me.Neither of them tried to argue with the other. Neither of them tried to explain themselves or fight for my attention. They simply kept asking if I was alright."Are you okay?""Did the doctors check the baby?""Does anything hurt?""Are you dizzy?"It got to the point where I wanted to throw a pillow at both of them. "I'm perfectly fine," I said for what had to be the third time. "If I wasn't, I could have said it myself."The two of them exchanged an awkward glance before finally falling silent.Honestly, seeing them agree on something felt stranger than waking up in a hospital."Good." I sighed. "Now can someone tell me about the news? What are people saying?"Victor answered immediately. "Don't worry. I shut that down. It's ridiculous what people are willing to do just to make money. They saw a fire, realised you were missing, and decided to create the craziest story they could think

When I opened my eyes, the first person I saw was Dad. For a second, I just stared at him. Then my eyes wandered around the room. The walls. The machines. The expensive furniture. The silence. It didn't take a genius to figure out I was in one of the hospital's VIP suites. Even the air smelled expensive. My hand instinctively flew to my stomach.Dad noticed immediately. "You're fine," he said before I could even ask. "And so is the baby." The tightness in my chest eased a little. "But tell me," he continued, leaning forward in his chair, "how are you feeling right now?... Water," he said over his shoulder.Almost instantly, one of the nurses hurried forward with a glass.I slowly drank, realizing only then how dry my throat had become."How are you feeling, Mrs. Allen?" the nurse asked kindly.I took a second to assess myself. No dizziness. No blurred vision. No pain. Nothing unusual."I don't have any pain," I answered honestly. "My vision is normal."Being a nursing student came in

  • His Ex Is Now A Billionaire's Wife   Chapter 112

You know that feeling when your entire body suddenly stiffens? When the tiny hairs at the back of your neck stand up because you've just heard something so unexpected that your brain simply... stops?Like someone had left a bottle of water in the freezer overnight and then smashed the ice straight against your chest. That was exactly what I was feeling.Daniella was still talking. Her lips were moving. She kept explaining things, calmly, almost casually, but after those first few sentences, my mind completely checked out.I could hear her voice. I knew she was saying words. But none of them were actually registering anymore. I was too shaken."Once in a while we invite men here to help with... certain sexual needs," she explained as though she were talking about yoga classes. "Of course, they're all tested first. The same way every woman here is tested." She smiled reassuringly. "And don't worry. Everyone here is on contraceptives."I stared at her. I wouldn't say I was shocked. Not e

So I simply couldn't do it. I had to break Victor's heart. I had to go through with Christine's plan and simply move on.Maybe that was the only way everyone could walk away alive. It wouldn't even be that difficult if I really thought about it. Christine was beautiful. More than beautiful, actually. She was already part of Victor's world. She understood his work, his lifestyle, and the people he surrounded himself with. Eventually, he would move on from me. Maybe he would even fall in love with her.Maybe one day they'd become the happy family I was trying so hard to give him.As for me, I'd survive. I always had.The thought hurt more than I wanted to admit, but I forced myself to accept it.Sometimes loving someone meant stepping aside. At least that was the lie I kept telling myself.I walked over to the small wooden desk where a leather-bound journal rested. The woman who had welcomed me earlier had handed it to me with the warmest smile."Whenever your thoughts become too loud,"

I didn’t think Victor actually meant what he said. That he would help me get back at his friend. It didn’t make sense.I rolled out of bed and dragged myself to the bathroom, brushing my teeth like a zombie before crawling back under the sheets. My phone was in my hand before I even realized it.I

Ring. Ring. Ring.I groaned, dragging the pillow over my head. I waited for the phone to stop ringing but it didn’t. I blindly reached for it and then I saw the name. Maya. “What the hell?” I muttered, sitting up immediately. Maya was calling me?My chest tightened, something must be wrong, like

"She's choking!" I heard someone scream.I coughed violently, my entire body jerking as water forced its way out of my mouth. My lungs burned like someone had set them on fire. “Breathe,” a voice said. “Stay with me.”I sucked in a sharp breath, only to choke again, more water spilling out as I ga

  • His Ex Is Now A Billionaire's Wife   Chapter 2

Ronan walked out on me, leaving me standing in the room like an idiot. Wow, I should have seen this sooner. My chest hurt like hell, but I forced a laugh anyway. It was the only thing I could do right now. I was in the middle of changing my clothes when I heard someone screaming my name. A franti
