Serena’s POV

I didn’t think when I yanked open the car door and threw myself inside. All I knew was survival. Escape. My voice cracked as I pleaded, “Please drive! Please help me!” My hands trembled, clutching my bag like my life depends on it. My mind is too lost to register who I was begging.

Then that voice - smooth, smug, and chillingly familiar - rang into my ears.

“Why should I help you?”

My blood froze.

Slowly, as if moving through circles, I turned my head.

The dim streetlight filtering through the window revealed his face - sharp jawline, piercing green eyes, and that infuriating smirk. Daniel.

The bastard who’d stolen my first kiss not even an hour ago.

My stomach churned, a sickening mix of dread and disbelief. I’d fled from Victor’s fire only to dive headfirst into Daniel’s inferno.

“Why is the universe so cruel to me? I cried silently.

“No,” I whispered, my voice barely audible, more to myself than him. My hand touched the door handle, survival instinct kicking in again. I had to get out. Now.

I turned sharply to the door as my bag slipped from my shoulder, but I didn’t care. I just needed to run - anywhere but here.

Before I could make a run for it , a strong hand clamped around my wrist, yanking me back with a force that made my breath catch.

I spun, as I crushed against Daniel’s chest, his grip unrelenting. His scent - expensive cologne and something dangerously masculine - invaded my senses, making my head spin.

I hated how my body reacted as heat pooled low despite the panic clawing at my throat.

“Let me go!” I hissed, tugging against his hold, but his fingers tightened, unyielding.

“Calm down, sweetheart,” he said, his voice low and infuriatingly calm. “Those guys chasing after you - they don’t look like the friendly type. Care to explain why they’re after you?”

I glared at him, my chest heaving. His green eyes glinted with curiosity, but there was something darker there, something predatory.

“It’s none of your damn business,” I snapped, my voice sharp enough for someone in trouble. I yanked my wrist free again, as he finally let go go. His grip was firm and tight, and I hated how small it made me feel.

I rubbed my wrist gently.

Daniel chuckled, making a low, mocking sound that sent a shiver down my spine.

“Not my business? You just threw yourself into my car, begging for help. Seems like it’s very much my business now.” He tilted his head, his smirk widening. “What’s the deal? You owe them money or something?”

I froze, my jaw clenching.

He is damn nosy, prodding at wounds he had no right to touch. Victor’s face flashed in my mind - his cold, calculating stare, the way his voice dripped with threats when he’d cornered me last week, demanding payment for my debts.

My sister’s college bills, my mother’s medical bills -they’d buried me in a hole I couldn’t climb out of. But I’d be damned if I let this arrogant bastard know any of that.

I pressed my lips into a tight line, refusing to answer.

My silence only seemed to amuse him further. His eyes roamed over me, lingering on my lips, my neck, the curve of my hips in the tight dress I wore for work.

I wanted to scream, to slap that smug look off his face, but I couldn’t afford to lose control. Not now.

Then his expression shifted, a glint of something calculating sparking in his eyes.

He then leaned closer, his voice dropping to a cheeky murmur that made my skin prickle. “You know, Serena, I could help you with those men. Make them disappear. For good.”

I blinked, my heart stuttering.

For a moment, hope flickered - stupid, reckless hope.

“What?” I whispered, hating how my voice trembled, how part of me wanted to believe he could fix this nightmare.

His smirk softened into something almost charming, but it didn’t reach his eyes. “I’m a man of power,” he said, his tone dripping with confidence. “I can settle whatever mess you’re in with those thugs. But…” He paused, his gaze locking onto mine, intense and piercing. “It comes with a price.”

My stomach twisted, suspicion coiling like a snake.

“What kind of price?” I asked, my voice barely above a whisper, though I already knew I wouldn’t like the answer.

His smile widened, predatory and deliberate as he ran his eyes through my book.

“Be my mistress. For, let’s say, a year. You’ll live with me, cater to my needs, and in return, I’ll make sure those men never bother you again. You’ll be safe. Protected.”

The words hit me like a slap, igniting a storm of rage and humiliation.

My mouth fell open, shock rendering me speechless for a moment.

Mistress? Mistress?

He thinks he could buy me, like I was some cheap liability to be owned?

My hands shook, as I boiled over, drowning out the fear, the exhaustion, everything.

“How dare you?” I spat, my voice rising, sharp and venomous.

“You think I’m some kind of whore you can just… purchase? Fuck you, Daniel!” I yelled as my chest heaved with the force of my anger. “I’d rather die than let you touch me again!”

His eyes darkened, but that damn stupid smirk didn’t falter.

“Careful, sweetheart,” he said, his tone annoyingly calm.

“You’re running out of options. Those guys don’t look like they’re here to negotiate.”

I didn’t care. I didn’t care about Victor, or the danger, or the fact that I had nowhere to run.

All I could see was red, my pride and dignity being disregarded than any fear.

I spun toward the car door, my heels clicking furiously as I stepped out onto the pavement.

The night air was cold, biting against my skin, but it felt like freedom compared to the suffocating weight of Daniel’s presence.

“Don’t walk away from me, Serena,” he called, his voice sharp now, laced with something that sounded almost like desperation.

I didn’t look back. My heart pounded, my legs unsteady, but I kept moving, one step, then another, the sound of my heels echoing in the empty street.

Victor and his men were still out there, somewhere, but I’d rather face them than sell my soul to this devil.

“You’ll regret this,” Daniel’s voice rang out behind me, low and dangerous, sending a shiver down my spine as his car moved slowly behind me.

I stopped, just for a moment, my breath catching.

Then I turned, my eyes blazing as I met his gaze one last time. “The only thing I regret,” I said, my voice steady despite the storm inside me, “is ever letting you near me.”

  • His Forbidden Mistress   Chapter 91

VANESSA'S POVThe elevator doors slid shut behind me, and the moment they did, I let the mask drop.My shoulders caved first. Then the careful set of my jaw, the practiced coolness behind my eyes, all of it crumbled the second the mirrored walls closed me in. I stared at my own reflection and barely recognized the woman looking back. My lips are still perfect. My lashes still curled. The red dress is still doing exactly what red dresses were designed to do.But underneath all of it?It's a Wreckage.I pressed two fingers against my temple and closed my eyes. The lobby numbers ticked down above the doors. Thirty-two. Thirty-one. Thirty. She's going to be a problem. That thought had started as a whisper the moment Daniel's little houseguest was in the room. I had expected someone temporary. Someone who was just for the time being, the kind of woman men like Daniel kept around when he felt stuck. I had not expected the quiet steadiness in her eyes. The way she hadn't flinched. She hadn't

  • His Forbidden Mistress   Chapter 90

Serena's POVThe bedroom door had barely closed behind me before my legs gave out their confidence.I sat on the edge of the bed, as my hands folded in my lap, staring at nothing. Lila sat beside me without a word. That was one of the things I had always loved about her. She never rushed in with noise when silence was what was needed. She simply sat, her shoulder warm against mine, and let the moment breathe."You okay?" she asked finally, her voice soft."I don't know." I said honestly. I pressed my fingers together and looked down at them. "Who was she, Lila? The way she looked at me–" I paused, searching for the right word. "It wasn't just dislike. It was something personal. Like I had taken something that belonged to her."Lila was quiet for a moment. "Lila.""I don't know the full story," she said carefully. "But I think she's an ex. The tension between them was crazy." She reached over and squeezed my hand once. "But it shouldn't bother you. Daniel has his eyes on you." I want

Daniel's POVThe study door clicked shut behind us, sending a heavy sound that seemed to echo the storm raging inside my chest. Vanessa stood in the middle of the room, her designer heels striking the hardwood once as she faced me. The dim lighting carved sharp shadows across her face, catching the sharp line of her jaw, the calculating light in her eyes. She was still beautiful but whatever spell that beauty had once cast over me had burned itself out a long time ago.I didn't have time for this. Not today. Serena was downstairs with Elena and Lila. My entire world felt shaky now and the last thing I needed was Vanessa's chaos thrown into the middle of it."What the hell are you doing here?" I demanded, my voice low and cold, stripped of every courtesy I might have once offered her. "I told you we were done. I sent you money. That was the end of it. There is nothing left between us."She didn't answer with words.Instead, she moved. Two steps. It was deliberate and quick, closing the

  • His Forbidden Mistress   Chapter 88

Serena’s POVI woke up slowly, as the soft morning light creeped through the curtains of my bedroom. My body felt deliciously sore in all the right places, a reminder of the passionate night we had shared. As my eyes opened slowly, I found Daniel already awake, already propped up on one elbow, staring at me with an intensity that made my heart skip a beat. His dark eyes were fixed on my face, as if he had been watching me sleep for hours. A small, sleepy smile tugged at my lips. “You have to stop staring at me when I’m sleeping,” I murmured slowly, my voice still husky from sleep. “Isn't it cute?” He asked.“It’s creepy, Daniel.” I replied smiling. He didn’t smile back immediately.Instead, his gaze darkened with that familiar possessive hunger. “I can’t stop,” he said, his voice low and rough. “You look so peaceful. I could watch you forever.”Before I could tease him further, he leaned down and captured my mouth in a deep, hungry kiss. The kiss started slow but quickly turned heated

  • His Forbidden Mistress   Chapter 87

Daniel’s POVI left Elena in the living room with a quiet good night, my footsteps echoing down the hallway as I walked away. She had tried to keep the conversation going, but I needed space. My sister’s sudden return had stirred up too many old memories right from the day our mother left, the cold boarding school she was sent to, the lonely mansion grandmother raised me in. Elena had spent years trying to rebuild what was broken, reaching out again and again, while I pushed her away every single time. I told myself it was protection. That keeping her at a distance meant keeping her safe from my world. But tonight, watching her laugh with Serena and Lila, something inside me cracked. I cared about her. Deeply. More than I ever let myself admit. But I couldn’t tell her that. Not yet.She is going torture me with it for the tight of my life.As I walked toward my room, my mind kept circling back to what she had said about being engaged. Engaged. The word sounded funny and strange to m

Elena's POVBy the time we finally returned to the penthouse, my feet were killing me.The shopping bags hanging from my arms felt twice as heavy as they had at the mall, and every muscle in my body ached from hours of walking. But somehow, I still couldn't stop smiling. The entire day had been exactly what I needed. For the first time in weeks, I had forgotten about guest lists, wedding planners, venue disasters, and the endless pressure that seemed determined to crush the joy out of wedding preparations.Instead, I spent the day laughing with Serena and Lila. And they felt like my future family. The thought warmed my chest. As we stepped inside the penthouse, Serena immediately kicked off her shoes with a relieved groan."Oh thank God."Lila followed suit as she dropped into one of the couches dramatically."I swear if anyone asks me to walk another step today, I'm filing a lawsuit." She groaned as she rubbed her feet.I burst into laughter as I collapsed on the couch next to her."You

Lila’s POVThe restaurant Daniel had booked for us was nothing but short of breathtaking. Lila’s POVI was curled up on the oversized bed in my guest room, the silk sheets cool against my skin as golden afternoon light peed through the floor-to-ceiling windows. Vanessa’s POVThe line went dead as Daniel hung up on me.For a moment, I felt the world stop spinning. Daniel’s POVThe study was quiet except for the low sound of my laptop and the occasional click of the mouse as I reviewed quarterly reports. Numbers blurred on the screen, but my mind kept drifting back to Serena and the way she had teased me before leaving to go see Lila made it really hard. My p
