Adrian POV

“Adrian! Come on!” I heard Navy call out.

I chuckled. “Am I not allowed to be late to my own party?”

“No! Get your butt down here, or I’m sending Reid in!”

This time I really laughed. “That is not a threat. That’s an opportunity to screw with you.”

“Adrian Willis! You’re impossible!”

I finished combing my hair. It’s gotten longer. I really should get it cut, but it doesn’t really matter anymore. I’m not trying to look good for anyone anymore. Not since…her.

I don’t even want to say her name anymore. I don’t want to think about her either. I just want to close this chapter of my life and move on. I have been with Blue Moon for a total of four years. I just turned twenty-two last week. Reid and Navy were great. They celebrated my birthday, and everyone in the family called me.

I know everyone is trying to be careful around me. I appreciate their consideration, but I just want to move on. I don’t want them walking on eggshells for me. I’m hoping things will be different in Blackstone.

I came down to the dining hall. When I walked through the double doors, bangers and streamers burst through the air. Everyone is cheering, and a big banner is hung that says, “WE WILL MISS YOU! STAY!”

I chuckled. Reid came up to me and hugged me. “I hate that you are leaving, but I understand. The door is always open if you ever want to come back, brother.”

“Thanks, bro.”

Navy and Nala came up to me and hugged me. They both kissed my cheeks.

“Brother, you'd better come visit often!” Navy said.

Nala laughed. “We are going to be at Blackstone soon anyway. Mom and Dad are going to come, too!”

I smiled. “That’s great. I can’t wait to see you already!”

Jules comes up and claps my shoulder. “I can’t believe you are going, man. I get it, but I also hate it.”

“Blue Moon is getting an excellent Beta couple, Jules. Don’t hesitate to call me if you need advice.”

Renz and Lacey come up to me. Lacey hugs me, tears in her eyes. “Don’t you be a stranger! You need to keep in touch with us.”

“I promise, Aunt Lacey.”

“Damn right, you will. I will whoop your ass if you try to forget us, Adrian,” Renz said.

“I welcome a good sparring, anytime, Uncle Renz.”

I go around the room and talk with everyone. We all eat, and then several people start telling funny stories about me. I noticed no one touched the topic about her. I’m glad. She is the reason I’m leaving the place I called home for four years.

By the end of the night, everyone started saying their goodbyes and leaving one by one. Their expressions are somber now, compared to the beginning of the night. It’s okay, though. I understand the sadness all too well.

Reid pulled me aside before I called it a night. “Adrian,” he began. “I haven’t wanted to broach the subject, because I know you are hurting. But are you really okay? I know your reasons for leaving.”

“I need a change of scenery, Reid. Everything that happened felt like it broke something in me. I can’t walk around this pack without thinking of her. I can’t sleep in my room without thinking about her betrayal. I want and need to get past her. I can’t do that here. I’m okay, but I need to be better. I want to close this chapter.”

He clapped my shoulder. “It feels like you are running away.”

“I’m saying goodbye. Goodbye to her memory. It will live in my mind, but I don’t want the constant reminders, Reid. Plus, Aiden and Thalia are going to need help with their pups.”

Reid laughed. “Tell me about it. Floating pups! They will never stay out of the cookie jar in the kitchen.”

I laughed. “Don’t get me started with Rosie and Teagan. Those two are sassy like Thalia. When they want to tell you off, they shift into their wolf form and do it. No fear either.”

“Yeah, can you imagine when those two get mated. I feel sorry for their mates,” Reid chuckled.

“Tell me about it,” I smiled.

Reid became serious again for a moment. “If you ever feel like you need some place to call home, let me know. You always have a place here, brother.”

I hugged him. “Thanks, man.”

“Love you, little brother. It pains me to see you this way.”

“I’m sure the Moon Goddess had a reason to do this to me,” I said. “Good night.”

I walked upstairs and went to my new and temporary room. Tomorrow morning, I will go to Blackstone and assume my role as Beta there. Tonight, though, I sleep. In the morning, I will say goodbye to her one last time. Goodbye to the memories of her that linger here. Goodbye to a life that wasn’t happy. Goodbye to a bond that was stolen and then destroyed.

  • His Outcast Mate (Book 4: The 'His' Series   Chapter 25: Temptation

Adrian POVAiden, Isaiah, and I are talking about Candy. We are trying to figure out how Candy got onto the premises undetected.“Didn’t Ronan come in undetected? We know that he came in with the rogues.”“Yeah, but his scent could have gotten lost in the rogue’s scent,” I replied.“Thalia mentioned that she could have been recruited as a hitman,” Aiden said.“Yeah, but I doubt that human hitman know how to or if they even can hide their scents,” I countered. All three of us were stumped trying to figure it out, but we were coming up with nothing. Isaiah then switched gears.“How are things going between Sinclair and you?”“We are figuring it out. I messed things up pretty badly when I first realized she was my mate. She thought I didn’t want her because I left. Really, I was in shock. I was still grieving.”“You walked out on Sinclair?” Isaiah asked, stunned. “No wonder Kaia was ready to tear you apart. She wouldn’t tell me anything, but she was seriously ready to rip you a new one

  • His Outcast Mate (Book 4: The 'His' Series   Chapter 24: Shopping

Sinclair POVKaia, Thalia, Mom, and Rory are all determined to take me shopping. I feel so out of my element. The only one who understands me is Mom.“When Austin first found me, I followed him. I left with the clothes on my back. The next day, Lacey took me shopping, and I felt the same way.”“Mom, how was your life before you found Dad?” I asked. All of us turned to Mom expectantly. She never really wanted to talk about her past. She’s always glossed over it. She focuses on all of us and not on herself. Dad doesn’t even talk about it because Mom doesn’t like bringing it up.“Let’s get lunch, and I will tell it to all of you. Then I will never speak of it again,” she said.We all agreed, got food, and literally sat for two hours talking about Mom’s past. When she was done explaining, she smiled.“I see myself in all of you. I see the fighters, the cleverness, the neglect, the abuse, and the loneliness. I felt it the same way Thalia, Kaia, and Sinclair have. The love I have for the fo

  • His Outcast Mate (Book 4: The 'His' Series   Chapter 23: The Warning

Candy POVI made it through undetected. I found her scent and followed it, just like he showed me. He wanted me to send a warning. So I tore up the cute little dress. The objective wasn’t to hide that I was there. It was to show her that I could get in undetected. My father is rotting in the basement of some freak wolf. Sinclair became a wolf. Disgusting. No wonder she was able to beat my Dad and brother. I was the only one who was spared from the basement because I was quick on my feet and managed to stab a security guard in the neck.Julian wanted me to bring her back. Ronan, however, said he would train me. Said he would show me how to make the potions, sneak in undetected, and then, when I’m ready, officially make me a hunter.Sinclair should not get to live better than me. She should not have the respect of a pack. She should not be smarter than me. She won’t be able to find me, but I know where she is. Ronan found out easily after he fought her. The fact that she is still alive

  • His Outcast Mate (Book 4: The 'His' Series   Chapter 22: Candy?

Adrian POV“Son of a bitch,” Aiden said. He reached for his phone and called Isaiah.“Brother, what’s up?”“Candy snuck onto our pack borders and destroyed Sinclair’s things,” Aiden said in a deathly tone.Isaiah snarled. “I’m coming now.”They hung up, but I’m the only one confused. I know Candy was a bully towards Sinclair, but I’m clearly missing something.“Can someone fill me in?” I asked.Aiden ignored me for a moment. “Sinclair, access all other security footage around the pack. I want to know how she got in.”Sinclair was already clicking away, and Thalia was behind her, observing the screen. I turn my attention back to Aiden and pull him aside. “Explain. What am I missing?”“What do you know?”“Sinclair told me about her foster families. The Crosses were the last ones. She said that her father sat around collecting the checks, neglected her, and allowed his asshole son to treat her like a servant, while doing nothing about Candy’s bullying. She said that Candy made her starve

  • His Outcast Mate (Book 4: The 'His' Series   Chapter 21: Hurt

Aiden POV“Something happened with Sinclair. Adrian is furious. I need to go to Sinclair’s room,” I said to my Mojito.“I’m coming,” she said definitively. We go down to the guest wing, and as soon as we are on the floor, I feel Adrian’s aura radiating throughout. I knock on Sinclair’s door, and Adrian opens it roughly.“I’m fucking killing someone, Aiden,” he growled.I looked behind him, and Sinclair was holding onto the dress that her brother had given her. It’s in shreds. My anger rises immediately.“Oh, Sinclair!” Thalia said, rushing over to her and hugging her.“Tally, I don’t understand this behavior. A rejected she-wolf is cast out of society? When did this become the standard?” she asked, crying.I’m fucking furious. I kneel in front of Sinclair. “This has never been the standard, Sinclair. Something is going on, and I’m going to find out what it is. If we have traitors in this pack and they are targeting you, they are dead.”Thalia continues holding Sinclair. She opens the p

  • His Outcast Mate (Book 4: The 'His' Series   Chapter 20: Who Dares?

Adrian POVThe pack not respecting Sinclair is my fault. Now she doesn’t trust them to do their jobs, and I can’t blame her.I grabbed her hand and led her out of the room, down the stairs, and into the dining hall. When we get there, everyone looks at us. Noses went up in the air.I marked her; she’s mine. They better not test my patience.“Who dares disrespect the beta female of this pack and my mate?” I asked in a low growl.Everyone’s eyes widened. Sinclair’s grip tightened on my hand. She is nervous. She is a fierce fighter, a fucking genius, and yet she is nervous.“Let me be clear about something right now,” I said loudly. I noticed my family sitting with smiles on their faces. I’ll deal with that in a minute. “When I walked out of my welcome party, it was from shock. Not because I was rejecting my mate. I needed time to come to terms with having a second-chance mate. Thoughts of rejecting my mate were NEVER on my mind. If I see my mate being disrespected, starved, or mocked beh
