Mag-log in***Megan's POV***
As usual, I slipped into my disguise for mafia-related business: a black catsuit and thigh-high stiletto boots, pulling on my black veil. I descended the mini stairs in the back of the children’s room—stairs no one would ever suspect led anywhere serious. I punched an invisible button on the high end of the wall, and an underground route opened. Below, an underground garage was filled with all types of bikes from around the world. I stepped into my favorite one, which I called the Ravenclaw, sleek and black like a predator at night, just like me. I zoomed off in one go, the engine roaring behind me. An hour later, I arrived at the warehouse, and of course, Kai’s bike, Viper, was already parked in the garage, indicating he was inside. I pushed open the large warehouse doors and almost caught Kai’s men off guard. The ones on alert had already pulled out their pistols, pointing them at the open door. I stepped in proudly, and they lowered their weapons when they realized it was just me. “Hold fire!” Anton, Kai’s right-hand man, hissed as he stepped down from the stairs. “Welcome, Lady M.” I walked into the building, glaring at each man as they bowed their heads. They feared and revered me, and I, in turn, enjoyed their respect, even if I never showed it. “Next time,” I glared, “think before you aim. I’d hate to stain my boots with your brain matter.” “Apologies, boss.” “No disrespect,” the men muttered. Anton stepped forward, bowing his head slightly. “Forgive the boys, Lady M. We weren’t expecting company.” “Apology accepted. Back to work,” I motioned to the men, then turned to Anton. “Where’s the boss?” “In his office.” I nodded and climbed the stairs that led to Kai’s office while the men returned to their tasks, Anton barking orders at them. After ringing Kai’s doorbell once, the doors opened immediately. I walked in, my eyes landing on the lady who was sitting with her back to the door. My mind raced through many reasons why Kai would bring the caretaker into the warehouse, but I trusted his judgment. He rose to his feet when he saw me. “M, you arrived just in time. Meet the caretaker.” The lady stood and turned to face me, and my eyes widened under the veil in shock. The caretaker was none other than Katie, my helper back at Joe’s place. I held back a gasp and smirked at Kai. “You always leave me astonished each time, boss.” “It’s a trademark,” he smirked back. “Katie, meet your new boss.” “Hi, lady…” I sighed and took off my veil. “Hi, Katie.” “Ms!” She sprinted toward me but then held back. I smirked and opened my arms wide; she ran into my embrace, then stepped back, staring at me in amazement. “I can’t believe this, Ms. Meg.” “That’s right.” “You look so… different, and gorgeous yet so… fierce,” she whispered. “I’m so happy you’re alive.” “Why, did Joe publish that I was dead?” She shook her head, closing her mouth in shock. “Wow.” “Come on, let’s sit and catch up; it’s been so long.” My eyes felt teary, but I tried my best to hold back the tears. Kai excused himself like a gentleman, hinting that he would be back in an hour to discuss business. ****** An hour later, Katie and I were laughing and drinking wine when Kai finally walked in. “Time for business, ladies,” he said, addressing us as he took a seat and pulled out some documents. “So, Katie, you’ll be starting a new job as Ethan and Cole’s caretaker, and you’ll need to move in with Meg here at her place. You must remain discreet about this job; no one must know you’re working with her.” Katie mimed locking her lips. “My lips are sealed.” “They have to be, or you know what my men can do,” Kai chuckled, but I knew that wasn’t a joke. Kai didn’t play around when it came to Ethan and Cole. Even though we trusted Katie, he wouldn’t spare her if she betrayed us. I shook my head at him, signaling that he shouldn’t joke like that. “So, Katie, any questions?” “Yes… when can I see my little ones?” We both chuckled. “You can start work now if you’re ready, or tomorrow, and then you can meet them.” “I’m ready; my things are packed.” I smiled and turned to Kai. “Can you have Anton prepare us a ride? I’ll drive.” He nodded and punched his keys on the desktop in front of him. When I rode my bike here, it was with the intention of rejecting whoever Kai had prepared. No matter how much I trusted him, I couldn’t allow a stranger who knew about both my private and mafia life to take care of my kids. That would be putting them in danger. But with Katie, I felt assured and safe for the first time in a long while. I finally had someone from my past who shared my experiences and truly understood what I had gone through. It felt surreal to see her again; I had searched everywhere for her as soon as I landed, and somehow, Kai found her right away. While catching up, she admitted she had left weeks after I did. Joe had surprisingly searched all over for me. He had turned into an even fiercer beast, becoming more reckless than ever. Then he engaged Miranda, only to cheat on her like the jerk he had always been. It was no surprise he did that to her; after all, she was one of his many women. What annoyed me was that he used my departure as an excuse to become even more reckless, hurting those around him. I hated him even more. As Katie and I made our way back home through a normal route, I couldn’t help but wonder why he suddenly cared. I guess the saying goes, “You never know the value of what you had until you lose it,” whatever that means. What Katie didn’t know was that the kids were his. I couldn’t let anyone know about their true paternity— not now, nor ever. I never wanted Joe or anyone related to him in their lives. I was going to protect them at any cost.Joe’s POVI enjoyed a thick glass of wine in my penthouse, expecting the arrival of my esteemed guest, my legs crossed on the table, tie slightly undone and a knowing smirk sitting at the corner of my lips.Carl sat across from me typing furiously on his laptop as he kept stealing glances my way.“Ask,” I finally said, looking away in delight and suddenly growing bored of his quiet stares. “Why do you keep staring like you’ve suddenly lost your ability to speak these days?”“You look exceptionally confident these days,” Carl muttered. “For a man whose ex-wife and kids are currently being protected by another man.”“Point of correction,” I grinned. “My wife. Megan and I are still legally married. And second of all, the hell with that bastard. I have a sweet plan on how to win Megan back and have my kids calling me papa.”Carl rolled his eyes immediately.“This is the time to be careful, Joe. No time for those reckless steps you always took toward Megan. She’s feisty now and extremely g
Kai’s POVI didn’t know if it was just me, but the tension around the kids’ attendant felt a little too heavy for someone simply escorting a parent to the principal’s office.Or maybe she was nervous because the children in question were under her supervision.Either way, I needed to establish something very clearly in this school.Ethan and Cole were not children anyone could casually expose to strangers. The teacher finally stopped in front of the principal’s office and knocked softly, her hands trembling slightly at her sides.A quiet voice answered from inside.“Come in.”She pushed the door open gently and stepped aside for me to enter first.“Sir… this is one of the boys’ guardians. Ethan and Cole’s…”The principal barely looked up until he heard the twins’ names. The moment his eyes landed on me, recognition flashed across his face and his expression tightened.“Mr… Kai,” he muttered quickly, dismissing the teacher with a wave of his hand.“I see you still recognize me after al
Kai’s POVMegan noticed the shift in my expression immediately and sensed something was wrong. She ushered the kids toward the dining table for breakfast before slowly walking closer to me.“What is wrong?” she asked warily. “What did Anton say?”I hesitated for a moment, not wanting her to worry when what she truly needed was rest, but knowing Megan, she wouldn’t calm down until she knew the full situation herself.“It’s Joe” I said finally. “He had one of men patrolling around the estate. The guards found footage of him around the estate and near the school surveillance system.”“What?” Megan whispered, her hand slipping from the staircase railing she’d been holding onto moments ago in laughter and ease. Now her fingers trembled.“This was weeks ago,” I continued carefully. “Even before Joe arrived at the estate. His men had already found the kids’ school route and had been following your car before repeatedly losing the trail.”Megan exhaled shakily.“I guess after enough tries, he
Kai’s POVBy the time Megan and I were done training, we were both heaving in exhaustion, sweat clinging to our skin as we made jokes about each other’s stance and composure while fighting just to ease the mood around us, yet the lingering fear of Joe Julian taking the kids still weighed heavily in the air.On my part, I tried swaying Megan’s mind off the situation even if only for a short while so she could rest, but every now and then I still caught the worry in her face. She was scared. Not for herself. For the boys. For the tug of war that was coming.I could tell she barely had any proper sleep since Joe showed up at the estate with those DNA papers.I watched her as she lay on the mat, back flat against the floor, eyes wide open like she was afraid to spare even a second for rest.“When are you going to give yourself a break, Megan?”She turned toward me with a small smile.“Break? I’m literally resting right now, what do you mean?” she laughed lightly.“No, Megan. I mean actual
Megan’s POVEver since Joe had appeared at the estate waving those papers around, fear had settled deep into my bones like poison and I hated the thought of him feeling superior over me.—Him seeing me break.I hated jumping at every sound around my kids these past few days, hated being extremely careful around them so badly that even they sensed my fear and grew worried and alert around the house. They asked questions, pressed on about wanting to know who Joe was and if he was going to take them away.I hated having my kids feel unsafe even around me.I was slowly going back to being that broken woman Joe had once manipulated into his control and that was the worst image any mother would want her kids to see her through. The tossing and turning in my bed wasn’t helping matters. I could barely sleep these days, always walking around the house, checking my kids’ room every few minutes like Joe was going to slip in through the windows and steal them away even with the hefty guards patro
Megan's POVMy eyes kept darting from the door to the clock and back to the door as I and Kai waited patiently in Victoria's office, his hands resting over mine.Suddenly the doorknob twisted open revealing Victoria in all her glory, elegant as always in a fitted black suit and red heels that clicked sharply against the floor. But my chest was too heavy to admire her properly.“Welcome, Ms Megan and—?”“Kai Slayer,” Kai stood up almost immediately extending his hand for a handshake but Victoria only paused for a second, her eyes moving from him to me.“We're together,” I explained softly.A knowing look crossed her face before she finally took his handshake.“Welcome Mr Kai, please have a seat.”Kai nodded calmly and sat back down beside me while Victoria settled into her chair opposite us.“I noted your message from my secretary Mr Kai,” she began calmly, opening a file on her desk, “and I deeply understand the intensity of the situation.”I swallowed hard. The intensity. That was on
Megan’s POVThe very moment Flavio granted me permission to speak, every eye in the chamber locked on me—daring, snarling, already judging. But I couldn’t care less. I was here to liberate myself, and I was going to do just that.Kathie gave me one reassuring look before I made my way to the podium
Megan’s POVAs you might have guessed by now, anytime I had a difficult day ahead, sleep never came.It was as though the weight of everything had splurged out all the sleep in my eyes and completely drained me.I didn’t toss and turn on the bed. I succumbed to my nature and simply stayed awake. It
Megan’s POV“Are they sound asleep now?” I asked Kathie absentmindedly as soon as I heard her footsteps in the living room. The house was quiet now—too quiet. I sat stiffly on the couch, my elbows resting on my knees, fingers intertwined. The thought of losing to Joe was not as frightening as the t

It was a lion’s den.All of them wer
