"Are you sure you won't need a new identity, Ms Vale?" Felix, my personal assistant, asked again from behind me. His voice sounded so heavy with worry.
I stood at the long mirror in my room, turning around slowly. The black dress wrapped tight around my body, smooth and cool against my warm skin. It gripped my waist and pressed against my boobs, then flared into a long slit that ran high up my left thigh.
Every small shift sent the fabric sliding open, letting the room's cool air brush my open leg. A thin black fashion net covered only my eyes, soft and light like a secret. My lips shone deep red, full and wet under the warm lights.
I leaned in closer to the mirror, still admiring myself. The red color made my mouth look hungry and dangerous, just as I needed it to be. My perfume floated up from my neck and wrists—that sweet vanilla mixed with sharp spice that made my own nose tingle. I ran my hands down my hips. The dress felt slippery and alive under my fingers.
I stared at him through the mirror, finally giving him some attention. He stood there all this while, shoulders raised, his eyes fixed on me with that same protective look he always wore. I stepped down from the dressing stool. My black heels clicked sharp and loud on the floor.
"No," I said, my voice came out cold and flat.
Felix followed me out to the car. As soon as we sat in the back, the leather seat pressed cold against the backs of my thighs. He handed me my tablet without a word. I took it and smirked a little. He was always so sharp.
I glanced at him again. His forehead stayed creased, his eyes still worried.
"I really don't need a new name or a new identity," I told him, tapping the bright screen. "Getting my second contract will be quick. Trust me on this."
"You sure, Bella?" he asked, arching one brow at me.
I sighed and leaned back. The car engine hummed low under us. "Even if I happen to need a new name, I can just guess any." I reached over and tapped his shoulder gently, reassuring him.
His muscles felt tight under my fingers. "I just need some time, maybe some nights with him and I'm getting those contracts." I added, closing the subject then turned back to my tablet, the cool glass smooth under my red nails.
"They're the Thorne brothers?" Felix said. His fingers moved fast on his own screen.
"Wow!! He has a brother." I smiled softly, intrigued but no warmth touched my face. Just a spark of interest on my next target stirred inside me.
"An identical twin brother," he said. He did not smile back, his voice sounding as if it's a problem.
I looked at him harder, searching his face. Something in his eyes made my skin prickle.
"Damien Thorne and Xander Thorne," he went on. "It says here that they're known for their notorious and ruthless nature. They are very discreet in their business deals and..." He paused, his eyes widened a little as he zoomed in on his screen.
I stretched my neck slightly, keeping my breathing steady. The car rolled smoothly over the city streets. Outside, horns blared and tires hissed on the damp road.
"... They casually switch places during functions for personal reasons," Felix continued, nodding slowly. "This makes them invisible and sly in the business world. And very tricky."
"Oh shit!!" I blurted out. Heat rushed up my neck. My stomach twisted real hard. I had pictured this night going so smooth and fast. I dropped back to the seat, pressing my head into my hand. The leather creaked under me. "Why are you telling me this now?"
"Which of the brothers will be hosting the gala?" I asked, my voice low.
"Damien Thorne is the guy for the night," he answered. "But you can't be so sure. He might be his brother, Xander—"
His warning got swallowed by loud sounds outside. The car stopped. Paparazzi shouts and camera clicks exploded all around us.
"We're here," Felix said, looking straight at me. His face carried many silent words. The strongest one felt like a sharp push, telling me to be careful.
I unbuckled my seatbelt, so ready. The metal clicked loud in the sudden quiet inside the car. "Check on Lila before you go to bed."
I stepped out. My heel sank into the soft red carpet. Cool night air rushed over my skin and up the high slit of my dress, raising tiny bumps along my thigh. My heart slammed hard against my ribs. One mistake with the wrong brother and everything would burn. All my efforts would go down the drain.
I straightened my back, lifted my chin, and moved like everything in my life was perfect. But inside, my chest squeezed tight. Sweat prickled under the net over my eyes. My personal life lay in broken pieces. My company sat on the edge of ruin. Still, I smiled with my red lips, turned my body slowly for the cameras, and held each pose. The flashes burned hot against my skin. Shouts crashed in my ears.
My pulse roared loud in my head. Every step forward on the red carpet made the high slit open wider, letting cold air bite my thigh and sending fresh shivers racing up my spine.
The glowing entrance to the gala waited just ahead. Somewhere inside the gala room waited for my target; Damien Thorne—or maybe his ruthless twin. My plans felt sharper than ever, but so did the danger.
So, let's get the party started.
Cara's POV."I believe Mr. Hudson represents the future we all want to invest in," Tony's voice boomed across the boardroom table, steady and commanding.I sat at the front, with my legs crossed neatly under the table. The leather chair felt cool and firm against my back. The air in the room carried the rich scent of fresh coffee from the silver pots on the side cart and the faint, expensive cologne worn by the men around me. My notebook lay open in front of me, pen poised, but my mind already spun faster than any meeting notes ever could.Hudson leaned back in his seat at the head of the table opposite Tony. He was in his late fourties, sharp-featured with silver streaks in his dark hair. His tailored suit hugged his broad shoulders perfectly. Power radiated from him like heat from a fresh cup of espresso. The presidential election was getting real close, and everyone in this room knew he was the strongest candidate. His eyes scanned the room with calculated charm."Thank you, Tony,"
Tony's POVI was taken aback at first, then I kissed her back. Perhaps that's what I need to cool off tonight. Her lips pressed firm and warm against mine. They tasted of her lipstick and the red wine from earlier dinner. In the moment, the heat came up as we kissed, moving slowly toward the bed. Our feet shuffled across the thick carpet. My hands roamed her back, feeling the silk of her nightdress.I unbuckled my belt fast. The metal buckle clinked loudly in the quiet room. Then I zipped down fast. The zipper sound cut through the soft piano music still playing low from the hidden speakers. She dropped on the bed, smiling low. The bed dipped under her with a soft creak. "Juliana," I murmured, my voice rough.Right there, I pulled her nightdress up. The silk fabric bunched around her waist, smooth and cool against my palms. Her breasts spilled out from the top of the nightdress, full and exposed in the golden light. I stood at the edge of the bed, my feet planted firm on the cool
Tony's POV."You're back early," Juliana, my wife who sat down, facing the mirror, doing her night makeup finally said something the few minutes that i walked in to my room. The bedroom door clicked shut behind me with a heavy sound. The room smelled of her expensive face powder and the faint floral scent of her perfume that always hung in the air like a soft cloud. Soft golden lights from her dressing table, lit up the space, casting warm reflections on the large mirror and the wooden floors.I walked across the thick carpet, my shoes sinking in with each step. My body felt the full weight of the long day, muscles tight in my shoulders and back.I gave a quick glance but I didn't say anything. I set my suitcase down beside the bed with a dull thud, then removed my watch and cufflinks, placing them on the nightstand. The watch band left a faint red mark on my wrist. I rolled my neck slowly, hearing a small crack."Is everything good at work? You look downright flushed." She said, reall
Cara's POV."How were you able to convince that dick head to still work with us?" Tony blurted out as soon as we got in his office, collapsing on his chair. "Tell me,"The wooden door clicked shut behind us with a solid thud that echoed in his large office. Tony dropped into his big leather chair, He let out a long breath, his shoulders sinking back as the chair rolled slightly on the smooth floor.I stood in front of the desk, now back in full secretary mode for the rest of the day. My heels pressed firm into the soft carpet, keeping my posture straight and professional. I folded my hands neatly in front of me, the fabric of my skirt smooth against my legs. A faint smile played on my lips as I watched him."We just had a small business talk," I said, not willing to drag as I'm out of ideas. My voice came out calm and even, like it was the most normal thing in the world. I kept my eyes on his face, steady and unblinking. He gave me a sharp gaze, totally not buying that. His eyebrows p
Cara's POVI bit the button-shaped device hard. My teeth crushed it to a crisp inside my mouth. The plastic cracked and broke. I hid the pieces quickly under my tongue. The scanner moved slowly up my body, the red light crawled higher. My heart beat very fast as more sweat prickled on my back. If i
Cara's POV.I walked to his table now, setting the papers down in order. The office smelled strongly of whiskey and the sharp, musky scent of Adrian’s cologne mixed with the faint scent of his sweat. The air felt warm and heavy, pressing against my skin.Adrian sat behind his desk, a half-empty glas
Cara's POV.I scoffed low. The office had really been busy today, just because of a few pictures of the Valenti heir at his lowest. I worked on my desk, preparing the file. I got into my boss’s office now, submitting the documents. Just then, a worker ran in.“The press has been taken care of,” he
Adrian's POVI pushed the door to my office open so hard the heavy wood slammed against the wall with a loud bang that echoed through the hallway, my chest rising and falling fast. Sweat stuck my white shirt to my back, cold and clammy. The anger burned hot in my veins like liquid fire. My jaw clen
