Chapter 2

Author: Moore
After handling the wedding matters, I dialed the hotel manager's number once again.

"The wedding is off. Cancel the presidential suite, ocean-view villas, private butler, private chef, yacht, private cars, and all services for the wedding day."

The manager paused for a moment.

"Ms. Olsen, are you certain? According to the contract, a portion of the deposit cannot be refunded."

"I'm sure."

Immediately following, I also canceled the photography team, makeup team, and floral services.

In less than half an hour, the wedding I had personally prepared for half a year was completely canceled.

I sat quietly on my suitcase, only now realizing that my hands and feet were getting numb.

Just as I was preparing to return to the villa, Harrison called.

"Lola, have you guys arrived at the pier?"

His voice was still gentle, as if he wasn't the one who had just driven me and my parents away.

"Almost."

I responded calmly, and Harrison let out a sigh of relief.

"That's good. Let the private butler know first that Mandy is allergic to seafood, so don't have them prepare lobster or crab. She has trouble sleeping in unfamiliar beds, so have the room scented with lavender aromatherapy ahead of time. Also, don't prepare milk for breakfast. She prefers oat milk."

He said a great deal in a single breath, terrified of missing any detail.

I listened quietly. Once he finished speaking, I asked a single sentence in a light voice.

"Is that all?"

The other end fell silent for a brief moment, then his voice turned cheerful.

"That's all for now. It's Mandy's first time going abroad. I'm afraid she won't be used to it, so look after her a bit more."

I suddenly felt it was ironic. Turns out, he was capable of remembering everything, but nothing concerning me.

After five years together, he didn't know that milk gave me a stomachache and that I was allergic to mangoes. He knew even less that I had to draw the curtains tightly to sleep and couldn't stand heavy perfume scents.

In the past, I always made excuses for him, feeling that he was merely busy with work and lacked the mind to remember these things.

Yet Mandy had only been acquainted with him for a month, and he remembered clear as day what she liked, what she avoided eating, and her sleep habits.

Only now did I understand that if a person truly keeps you in their heart, there is no need for reminders.

The phone rang again, another call from Harrison.

"Also, Mandy is a bit shy around strangers. Mention it to the private butler ahead of time so they're aware. In addition, arrange her parents' room in the position with the best view. It's their first time coming to Meridianna, so the experience must be excellent."

I gave a light response.

"Okay."

Hearing my response, he let out a satisfied laugh.

"You're still the sensible one. Once the wedding is over, I'll make it up to you."

The call hung up, and I remembered back to five years ago when I had just taken over the family pier. During an outing, several drunkards pestered me.

Though my bodyguards were nearby and could have arrived very quickly, Harrison didn't know that.

He rushed up without a single shred of hesitation to shield me, getting beaten until his face was black and blue.

That was the first time someone disregarded their own safety for mine. From that day on, I proactively pursued him.

To be with him, I concealed my identity as a capo of a mafia family, only saying that I managed a pier business.

His salary wasn't high, so I bore the vast majority of our dating expenses.

He wanted to achieve results in his work, so I used my network to introduce regular import-export enterprises.

I thought that to love a person meant maintaining his pride.

Only now did I realize that my constant compromises never bought his affection. In fact, it had only made him find everything more and more a matter of course.

Another message popped up, still from Harrison.

[Don't forget to have the hotel prepare welcome bouquets. Mandy likes white roses, not lilies.]

The sentence was short, yet felt like a needle, piercing through my last illusion.

I wiped my eyes and put away all my vulnerability.

From now on, I only had one identity—capo of Narshe's Olsen mafia family.

I dialed the hotel manager's phone once more.

"Don't reinstate any of the services canceled just now.

"In addition, for the rooms and all matching services freed up after the cancellation, do not allow anyone to check in under my name."

Since Harrison wanted to take care of Mandy so badly, for this trip to Meridianna, let him use his own salary of a few thousand dollars a month to take good care of her.

The commissioner immediately came forward to welcome me."Ms. Olsen, welcome."Immediately following, the head of the port authority, the managers of major shipping companies, and the pier supervisors all greeted me simultaneously, their synchronized voices echoing across the entire pier."Capo."Harrison froze, his eyes full of disbelief. He stared blankly at me, doubting over and over again whether he had mistaken me for someone else. However, that face was something he couldn't be more familiar with.I gave a slight nod, following my father as we walked toward the meeting room. From beginning to end, I didn't cast a single glance at Harrison. It was only after my departing figure vanished from his line of sight that Harrison snapped back to his senses, grabbing a colleague beside him with a sudden jerk."She... How could she be here?"The colleague looked bewildered."You didn't know? That lady is the eldest daughter of the Olsen family and also the capo of East Port. Th

He pulled out his phone and dialed my number over and over again. However, the only response was the ice-cold automated prompt."The user you have dialed is temporarily unavailable."He opened his messaging app next. When he hit send, a single grey check mark jumped up beside the text—I had blocked him.Harrison’s mind grew increasingly chaotic. He turned around, preparing to head out and look for me, but Heidi blocked him immediately."What are you looking for her for? Isn't she just throwing a tantrum? Leave her alone for a few days, and she’ll crawl back on her own."Daniel followed suit."Exactly, you can't spoil this kind of woman. She dares to run away from home before even getting married. What will she do in the future then? If you ask me, it's better that she left. We can just call off the wedding, and you can marry Mandy instead."Mandy’s face flushed red. She lowered her head and whispered, "Heidi, Daniel, please don't say things like that..."Her mouth offered a ref

The barrage of phone calls left Harrison with zero desire to vacation, so he hurriedly cut the itinerary short and rushed everyone back to Narshe overnight.Upon returning to the office, Director Addams threw a list right in front of his face.On the list, a staggering twelve long-term cooperative enterprises had submitted applications to replace their customs declaration clerk."What's happening right now has severely impacted our work. Think long and hard about whether you've offended someone recently!""I'm giving you one day to handle this. If we lose all these enterprises, not only is your promotion a goner, but you can forget about being evaluated as employee of the year too."Walking out of the office, Harrison's back was already thoroughly drenched in cold sweat. He immediately dialed the number of the person in charge at the very first enterprise."Mr. Thomas, is there some sort of misunderstanding between us?"The other end of the line merely let out a polite laugh."

I returned to the Narshe manor. The black iron gates slowly swung open, and the car drove along the tree-lined avenue into the estate. The moment the car came to a steady halt, over a dozen household staff stood in an orderly line at the entrance."Miss, welcome home."I handed my coat to one and stepped into the grand hall. The familiarity of everything allowed my nerves, which had been strained for the past few days, to finally relax. This was the life that belonged to me. There was no need to accommodate anyone, and certainly no need to hide myself carefully just to protect someone's pride. The butler stepped forward with an expression of deep respect."Miss, several of the managers have already arrived in the meeting room. They are all waiting for you."I nodded, walking straight into the meeting room to take the main seat, and spoke faintly."Let's begin."Documents were quickly delivered before me one after another."East Port Pier's container throughput increased by

"Mr. Tucker, to rebook the presidential suite, private butler, yacht, private dinner, and seaside ceremony, the total fees will need to be paid anew."When the front desk handed him the bill, Harrison’s smile froze slightly. This sum of money far exceeded his expectations. However, standing behind him was Mandy’s family, as well as several colleagues from the department.Everyone knew that this Meridianna wedding was planned by him. If he backed down now, his reputation would go down the drain.Gritting his teeth, Harrison handed over his bank card. The first card had insufficient balance. The second card's payment failed. It was only upon reaching the third credit card that the entire pre-authorization was finally completed. The endless, uninterrupted stream of deduction text messages caused his hand to tremble from heartache, yet he still forced a supportive smile."Let's go. All expenses today are on me."Several colleagues instantly cast envious gazes over."Mr. Tucker, y

I leaned back against the couch, my voice so calm that it never wavered."I canceled it. Since you look after Mandy so well, you should hold the wedding with her."After a few seconds, a soft chuckle came from the phone."Lola, I thought some major disaster had happened. Turns out you're just jealous."Didn't I explain it to you already? Mandy is just my colleague. She's new to the unit and doesn't understand many things. Why is it a problem that I look after her a bit more? Can you stop overthinking things?""I know it was a hassle for you and your mom and dad to get to a ship today. That's on me. When you arrive at Meridianna, I'll make it up to you."I spoke faintly. "Harrison, there is no making up to me. We're over."Harrison let out a light laugh, his tone full of disregard."Lola, stop making a scene. You love me so much. How could you possibly leave?"Besides, I'm about to be promoted very soon. Management has already sought me out for a talk. When I go back, I will be
