Sophia's POV

Nikolai’s eyes never left mine. Maybe he thought I was stupid, brave, or maybe both. I couldn’t tell what he was thinking.

“Why the hell would I do that?” His gun remained pointed at me.

I was officially being stupid.

I stammered, that’s what happens when you have a gun in your face.

“Think about it…” I started, “Look at him.” I looked to my father, who was cowering away in fear and sobbing. “He’s drunk! Half the time, he can’t even tie his shoelace; killing him isn’t the revenge you think it is.”

I waited. Something flickered in Nikolai’s eyes; maybe I was making some sense after all.

“Taking me?” I continued, “That would break him!” I drove my point home.

Nikolai let out a scoff, holding the gun even tighter.

“I have no use for you.”

With one snap of his finger, one of his men grabbed me, pulling me away from my father’s defence.

“No, please no…I will do anything, just don’t hurt him,” I begged.

Nikolai took slow and measured steps, his gun still marking its target, my father, till they were face to face.

“Look at me,” Nikolai said, my father could barely stand on his feet. “Look at me!” Nikolai screamed, forcing my father to face him, gun to his head.

“I’m sorry…” My father sobbed, his pants getting soaked with fear.

“Pathetic.” Nikolai said as he let out a low, sinister laugh, “You took away my father. Now, watch me take your daughter.”

“Take her,” Nikolai ordered his guard.

“No, please no.” My father sobbed uncontrollably.

“Dad, don’t worry, I’ll be okay.” I put on a brave face as the stupid guard manhandled me out of my home.

***

The city lights reflected right through the tinted windows. I kept my hands tightly folded in my lap. Nikolai, on the other hand, was nursing his bruised knuckles right beside me in the backseat of his car.

He stayed back for twenty minutes after I was tossed in the car. No doubt pummeling my father.

The bastard. I could feel the fumes coming out of my nostrils. Maybe I could push him out of the car, or stab him in the face with a pen? I hadn’t figured it out just yet.

Neither of us spoke, and the car ride felt like an eternity.

Finally, the car slowed against the gravel, stopping right at the entrance of some gateway mansion. My heart stopped the moment the engine died. I had given myself to a criminal, how the hell could I survive this?

He stepped out of the car before I could reach for the door, and one of his men opened it.

I hesitated. There was no turning back once I got out.

“Out,” Nikolai said quietly, but it was clearly not a suggestion.

I shivered at the thought of walking into his home, or should I say, my prison cell. I took a deep breath, the cold air welcoming my body as I stepped out.

“Inside,” Nikolai said simply.

I followed him inside, and I was breath taken. The floor-to-ceiling windows looked like something from a fancy magazine, and if I wasn’t being held captive, maybe I’d appreciate just how beautiful the whole place was.

I looked around, eyes wide, freezing, and scared to my bones.

A man in a black suit showed up and nodded toward the hallway.

“The guest room is ready, sir.”

Nikolai barely acknowledged him. Rude.

“Get her something warm to wear, and time for a shower. Then bring her to me.”

I rolled my eyes. Who the hell did he think he was?

I was going to say no to the shower or even the warm clothes, but God knows I needed both.

The guest bathroom was as luxurious as the entire house. I scrubbed away the trauma of the entire night. Slipping into a black sweater and black sweatpants left on the bed.

When I was finally escorted to the living area, there he was. Nikolai Lev.

He was out of the clothes he had stormed my home in. He stood by the windows with a glass of wine, and the sleeves of his black shirt rolled up, exposing his tattooed forearms.

“Sit, Sophia.” He said with his back to me.

I gently sat on the leather couch, my pulse racing half the time.

He finally turned around, a coy smile on his face.

“Feeling better?” He asked like he wasn’t the architect of my pain.

I stared at him plainly, “Uhm, let’s see…you dragged me out of my home, beat the crap out of my father, and now you’re holding me against my will.”

He let out a low chuckle, “Last I checked, you volunteered to be here.” His eyes were like magnets, “Darling.” He added with a drawl.

“I didn’t exactly have a choice. You were going to kill my father!”

He studied me for a while before sitting on the opposite couch.

“Tell you what.” He started, “I can have my driver take you back home, and your father can take your place.”

My stomach dropped, and I stared at him, too stunned to speak.

“No?” He asked amusingly, “Thought so.”

“What do you want?”

“I want your father to pay for what he did.”

I let out a scoff, “So what’s your plan exactly? Hold me here? Keep me as a prisoner.”

“I have a much better plan than that, Sophia.”

The urge to kick his smug face in got more intense with each second.

“Look. I am sorry about whatever you think my father did to your father. I’m sure this is all just a big misunderstanding.”

He let out a low sound, “Your father killed mine in cold blood. And you call it a misunderstanding?”

His eyes turned dark, “No, of course not.” I scrambled.

“Here’s how this is going to work.” He cleared his throat as his jaw tightened. “Your father lives. For now. But you…you belong to me until we even things out.”

“What does that mean?”

“It’s simple. Your father took something irreplaceable from me, and now his daughter is going to give me the next best thing.”

“What…what am I going to give you?”

There was that coy smile again, the corner of his lips curved, his eyes beaming with joy at the sight of my confusion.

“It’s simple, Sophia.” He said, “You get to give me an heir.”

His words felt like a gut punch. This can’t be happening to me.

Ch 15Nikolai's POVJack was waiting in the hallway, his demeanor carrying the same sense of urgency as his voice when he came to my door a couple of minutes earlier.“Two men. East fence. Armed.” He gave a quick debrief of the situation.I hated leaving Sophia by herself. I thought about her an unhealthy amount. The way her voice had softened when she told me to be careful. That fucked with my head more than anything Moretti could throw at me tonight. But there was no time for weakness tonight.I pulled my gun out from the holster at the side of my waist. “Are we sure it’s Moretti's men?”“Positive. They tried slipping through the blind spot near the old service road. The boys spotted them before they could get close.”“Take Petrov and three others. Bring them back alive. I need answers.”We moved out of the house with our guards up. Every step calculated, and our guns locked and ready to go. I could hear the low voices of my guards already in position. But somehow, everything in me

Sophia’s POVSitting through dinner with a room full of potentially dangerous men was one thing, but playing a doting wife to their boss was certainly another.Suffice to say, I’m pretty sure I nailed being the perfect wife. Now here I was, sharing the same air as Nikolai. I dropped the perfect wife act as soon as everyone walked out of the dining room, but somehow, there was a feeling of angst that remained stagnant in the air between us. His body caged mine so close that I could smell his cologne mixed with a light trace of wine. It felt like torture being so close, and my body responded to the space between us, or the lack thereof, in ways my brain couldn’t completely comprehend. I hated how my body remembered the way our lips touched, or the way his fingers made my skin pulse like there were bolts of electricity beneath it.He pulled away the moment he looked down at his phone. Whatever he read had changed his demeanor in an instant. His jaw tightened, and his eyes went cold.

  • His To Have And To Loathe   Chapter Thirteen

Nikolai's POVThe night was going according to plan. My men sat around the table, wine flowing, and just the right amount of fear beneath all the socializing. Yet, something felt different, and I knew it before I thought about it.It was because she was sitting right by my side.Sophia. My fake wife looked far too good in that black dress. I had to remind myself that it was all pretend. But not every part of me had gotten the memo. She looked good in that black dress. It hugged her body like it had been made just for her.The neckline plunged so far down that I had caught some of my men staring. Just one warning look from me was enough to make them back off. Then there was the red lipstick. My God. My mind wandered to our kiss. After she left the gym, I felt as though I had lost all sanity.Petra’s gaze stayed heavy on me. I hadn't forgotten how disrespectful she had been to Sophia. She was starting to become a liability.“Enough personal matters,” I turned my attention to the me

  • His To Have And To Loathe   Chapter Twelve

Sophia's POVHoly shit.I just kissed Nikolai Lev. And I liked it.All I could think of as I made my way up the stairs was how wrong all of this was.Nikolai was the enemy. Hating him was the only way to survive this marriage. Kissing him and enjoying it was the opposite of that."Get it together, Sophia," I whispered, shutting the door behind me.I scooped Loki out of his carrier immediately, burying my face in his soft fur as he purred against my chest. Easing me out of my angst. "I don't know what I'm doing, Loki," I murmured to him. "Dad’s probably passed out drunk on the floor somewhere, and here I am, kissing the devil.”My eyes landed on a pile of shopping bags and boxes in the corner. I set Loki on the bed and began digging through them. It had basically everything I had requested. Shoes, clothes, and, most importantly, there was also a new phone.Which was great, because I was slowly losing my mind here.I thought for a second who I could call. My best friend, Amaya, was pr

Niko's POVI was in the middle of bench presses in my home gym, trying to burn off some steam before tonight's dinner, when Ivan knocked and walked in."Some things arrived for Sophia Rossi." He looked at me like I had somehow become Sophia. Or should I say, my wife. The same woman who had accused my oldest friend of being a traitor. My nostrils flared at the mere thought of her words. She had no idea what she was talking about.I'd admit, my anger might have gotten the best of me, but Sophia had a way of infuriating me like no one else, while affecting me in a way I just couldn't bring myself to comprehend."How about you give it to her then?" I grunted, pushing the barbell back into the rack. "What should I do about the cat?""What cat?" I froze in place"Uh…this one?"My whole body snaps up, and my eyes instantly land on a pet carrier with what seems to be a small white cat behind the bars."What the hell..." I take a deep breath. How has she managed to piss me off twice in one da

Sophia's POV“My love,” He said performatively. Clearly putting on a show for his audience of one, Petra. I put on a fake smile, knowing I had to also play along to whatever this was.“Hi, baby…” I said softly, and a flicker of curiosity flashed in his eyes. He could probably tell how rusty I was in the writing department. I hadn't had a boyfriend in so long. Taking care of my father was a lot of work; ergo, I had no social life.Niki stretched out his hand for me to take, and after a second of hesitation, I did.He gently led me away from my hiding spot and into the office, where Petra looked unimpressed. Her left leg stuck out in front like a pose, revealing her thigh-high slit. Seriously, was there some kind of cocktail party this morning? She had her arms crossed across her chest, like she was ready for war.And to be honest, so was I. She stared at me, top to bottom. Like she was scanning me for some kind of virus.“Hello,” I said sweetly. I had to play the perfect wife, and t

Niko's POVI leaned back, taking all my plans in. Tonight was the night.
