Lila shut the heavy door of her new bedroom and pressed her back against the cool wood, trying to steady her breathing. The room was absurdly luxurious — a king-sized bed with silk sheets the color of champagne, a crystal chandelier sparkling overhead, and a private balcony overlooking the moonlit ocean. This was supposed to be her fresh start. Instead, it felt like stepping into a gilded cage.

She changed out of her sundress into a simple black tank top and soft cotton shorts, the fabric light against her skin. The mansion was quiet now. Elena and Victor had left for some high-society gala, leaving behind only the low hum of staff and the heavy weight of Ronan Sterling’s presence.

*Stepbrother.* The word made her stomach twist.

She wandered downstairs around midnight, barefoot on the cool marble floors, hoping a glass of cold water would calm the strange heat still lingering under her skin from that charged moment in the foyer. The kitchen was massive, all dark granite and stainless steel gleaming under soft recessed lights.

She opened the fridge, the cool air washing over her bare legs.

A low, velvety voice cut through the silence behind her.

“Looking for something to satisfy that hunger, little stepsister?”

Lila startled, nearly dropping the water bottle. She turned slowly.

Ronan leaned against the massive kitchen island, arms crossed over his bare, sculpted chest. Black sweatpants hung dangerously low on his hips, revealing the deep V-lines that disappeared beneath the fabric. His jet-black hair was slightly tousled, grey eyes locked on her with predatory intensity. The same man who had looked at her like she was dirt earlier now looked like he wanted to devour her.

“I’m not your stepsister,” Lila said, keeping her voice steady even as her pulse raced. “And I’m just getting water. I didn’t come down here for you.”

Ronan pushed off the island and stalked toward her, each step deliberate. He stopped mere inches away, towering over her. The heat from his body wrapped around her like a dangerous embrace. He smelled like clean soap, expensive cologne, and raw masculinity.

“Yet here you are,” he murmured, voice dropping to a dangerous rumble. “In my house. Wearing almost nothing. Looking like sin wrapped in innocence.”

Lila’s breath caught as his fingers brushed a loose strand of her dark wavy hair behind her ear. The touch was light, but it sent electricity racing down her spine. Her nipples tightened against the thin fabric of her tank top. She hated how her body reacted.

“Don’t,” she whispered, but she didn’t move away.

Ronan’s lips curved into a dark smile. His hand trailed slowly down the side of her neck, thumb stroking the rapid flutter of her pulse. “Your heart is racing. Scared? Or something else?”

His palm slid lower, boldly cupping the side of her breast through the thin tank. His thumb brushed over her already-hard nipple, circling it slowly, teasing. A sharp jolt of pleasure shot straight between her legs. Lila bit her lip to stifle a moan, her thighs pressing together as warmth flooded her core.

*This is wrong. He’s your stepbrother. Push him away.*

But her body betrayed her. She arched slightly into his touch, craving more of that wicked friction. Ronan noticed. His grey eyes darkened with triumph.

“Look at you,” he whispered, voice thick with lust. “So fucking responsive. I bet you’re already wet for me, aren’t you?”

His other hand gripped her waist possessively, pulling her flush against his hard body. She could feel the thick ridge of his erection pressing against her stomach through his sweatpants. His fingers teased the hem of her shorts, brushing the sensitive skin of her inner thigh, inching higher, closer to where she ached.

Lila’s head spun. The pleasure was overwhelming. Her body screamed for him to touch her there, to slide those long fingers inside her and relieve the throbbing need. For one dizzying moment, she imagined him lifting her onto the counter and fucking her senseless.

Then shame and anger crashed over her like cold water.

“No!” She shoved him with all her strength. Ronan stumbled back a step, surprise flashing across his arrogant face.

*Slap!*

Her palm connected hard with his cheek, the sound cracking through the silent kitchen like a whip.

Ronan’s head snapped to the side. A bright red handprint bloomed on his skin.

For a heartbeat, stunned silence filled the air.

Then his eyes blazed with fury and raw, dangerous hunger.

**“What!!! How dare you.”**

Six weeks later, the city was still talking. The photos had faded from the front pages, replaced by newer scandals, but the name *Sterling* still carried a different weight now. Ronan had walked away from the company. Victor had frozen accounts and released cold public statements. Elena had cried, screamed, and eventually gone quiet. Serena had disappeared from social circles after Marcus made sure every journalist knew she had tried to blackmail a pregnant woman. And through it all, Ronan never once let go of Lila’s hand. They were staying in a penthouse he owned under a different company name — high above the city, floor-to-ceiling windows, quiet. Safe. Lila stood on the balcony in one of his shirts, the ocean breeze from the distant coast mixing with the city air. Her hand rested on the soft curve of her lower belly. At three months, the bump was just starting to show.Behind her, the sliding door opened.Ronan stepped out, barefoot, wearing black sweatpants and nothing else. He wr

By 9 a.m. the story was everywhere.Lila sat on the edge of Ronan’s bed in one of his shirts, staring at her phone as the notifications piled up. Entertainment sites, Twitter, Instagram gossip pages — all of them had the photos. Blurry, grainy, but clear enough. The kind of calm that meant he had already decided something irreversible. He took the phone gently from her hands and tossed it onto the bed.“We’re going public,” he said. “On our terms.”Lila looked up at him. “How?”“Press conference. • ILLICIT OBSESSION    Breaking Point

Sleep never came.Lila lay awake in Ronan’s bed long after the thunder outside had faded, staring at the ceiling while his arm stayed locked around her waist. His hand rested protectively over her stomach even in sleep, as if he could shield the tiny life inside her from the war that had just been declared. Every time she closed her eyes she saw Victor’s face in the study. Heard the words *quietly given up*. Felt the ground disappearing under her feet.By 5 a.m. she couldn’t take it anymore. She slipped out of bed carefully, pulled on one of Ronan’s shirts, and went to the balcony. The ocean was black and restless. The coastal wind whipped her hair across her face. She wrapped her arms around herself and tried to breathe through the panic. This was her fault. If she had never moved into this house, if she had never let Ronan touch her, if she had been stronger—The balcony door opened behind her.Ronan stepped out wearing only sweatpants, hair messy, eyes still heavy with sleep but al

  • ILLICIT OBSESSION    The Reckoning

Victor Sterling’s study felt like a courtroom. The heavy oak door closed behind them with a soft, final click. Floor-to-ceiling windows looked out over the darkening ocean, but the only light came from the desk lamp, casting harsh shadows across Victor’s face. He stood behind the massive desk, the printed photo of Ronan and Lila on the parlour couch lying between them like evidence at a trial.Lila’s heart hammered so hard she could feel it in her throat. Ronan stood slightly in front of her, one hand still brushing the small of her back — a silent claim even now.Victor’s voice was cold enough to freeze blood. “Explain this.”Ronan didn’t flinch. “It’s exactly what it looks like.”“You are fucking your stepsister in my house,” Victor said, each word precise and cutting. “While your mother and I were away. While we are trying to present a united, respectable family image for the largest merger this company has ever seen. Do you have any idea what this photo would do if it reached the

The positive pregnancy test stayed hidden in the drawer of Lila’s nightstand, but its presence changed everything. Every glance Ronan gave her across the dinner table felt heavier. Every time his hand brushed her lower back in the hallway, it lingered just a second longer over the place where their secret grew. The mansion had become a pressure cooker, and Serena was the one turning up the heat.It started with the email.Lila was in the library the next morning, pretending to sketch while her stomach rolled with morning sickness, when her phone lit up. An email from an unknown address. Subject line: *Proof*.Attached were three photos. The first was the blurry one Serena had already sent — Ronan behind her on the parlour couch. The second was sharper: Lila’s face mid-moan, Ronan’s hand fisted in her hair. The third was new. A close-up of the pregnancy test she had taken, clearly photographed from inside her own bathroom. Somehow Serena had gotten access. Or paid someone who had.The

  • ILLICIT OBSESSION    The Secret Between Us

Three weeks after the parents returned, the mansion felt smaller. Every shared glance across the dinner table, every accidental brush of hands in the hallway, every late-night text that said *come to me* carried more weight. The stolen nights continued — quieter now, more careful, but no less intense. Ronan still took her like a man possessed, and Lila still came apart for him like she had no other choice. But something had changed in her body.It started with the nausea. Subtle at first — a wave of dizziness in the mornings, the smell of coffee suddenly too strong. Then her period didn’t come. At first she blamed stress. Serena’s threats had gone quiet for a few days after Ronan and Marcus paid her a visit, but the photo still existed. The fear still lived under her skin. Still, when the second week passed with nothing, Lila bought a test. She took it in the private bathroom of her suite at dawn, hands shaking so hard she almost dropped the stick. Two minutes felt like two hours. Whe
