LOGINMy Grandparents arrived the next day, but they were mostly focused on Amber’s wedding.
“Jay,” Kevin greeted me. “Is she coming over at some point?”
“Yeah, but only to school you,” I smirked.
According to our plan, Jenny would spend two mornings with us, and I’d spend two afternoons at her place. That way, we’d see each other almost every day and hopefully avoid too much family interrogation.
The morning after, Jenny arrived right after breakfast. I had been waiting, so I opened the door for her.
“I missed you,” I whispered, closing the entryway door behind her and pulling her into a kiss.
“I missed you too,” she smiled when I finally let her speak.
“I know—otherwise, you wouldn’t have let me do that,” I teased.
Once inside, my family surrounded her until Brad arrived. She was cheerful, kind, and absolutely gorgeous. I wanted to pull her away.
“Hey,” Kevin greeted her. “You look great today.”
“Thanks,” my girl smiled. “New girlfriend?” she asked curiously.
“What makes you think that?” Kevin looked surprised—I was too.
“Your hair is different, your shirt is new, and you’re wearing a new cologne,” Jenny laughed. I smirked.
“You know, nothing serious—I’m still waiting for you,” Kevin joked.
“Then keep waiting,” I laughed, stepping in and leading Jenny toward the kitchen—then quietly into the hallway.
“What are we doing here?” she asked as I closed the door behind us.
“Kissing,” I whispered against her lips, and she returned it passionately.
“Get a room,” Amber teased when she walked in on us. Jenny didn’t even blush this time—probably because it was Amber. “Brad and his family will be here any minute. You can come back in a few minutes.”
We returned to the kitchen, then the living room. Once Brad arrived with his family, we took advantage of the moment when no one was paying attention. The hallway was quiet—perfect for a quick kissing battle.
We didn’t stay away for more than a few minutes, but before lunch, Jenny just gave me a knowing look, and we disappeared separately.
“You wouldn’t have done this a few months ago,” I laughed against her lips.
“See? You’re leading me into temptation,” she teased.
After lunch, I walked her home. We took our time saying goodbye—I was invited over for lunch the next day.
Once she went inside, I headed back into the chaos.
Luckily, the family was busy getting to know Brad’s family, so only Kevin and Will focused on me.
“Hey, man,” Kevin said. “I was thinking of coming back for New Year’s.”
“For what?” I asked, surprised. Jenny would definitely piece things together.
“Apparently, there’s a great party here every year,” he said simply.
“Yeah, at Paul’s—my friend’s place,” I said. “Come if you want. If you need a place to stay, let me know.”
“Will?” I called across the living room. “You coming to our New Year’s party? Kevin’s coming back.”
“Sure, I’d love to,” Will said.
“Alright, I’ll talk to Paul about you guys crashing at his place.”
Tomorrow, I’d have to discuss this with my girlfriend.
After dinner, when everyone was getting ready for board games, Dad motioned for me to follow him into his study.
“Is something wrong?” I asked as he closed the door.
“Just wanted to say, son—try to be a little less obvious tomorrow. You are a guest, after all,” he smiled.
“I don’t think anyone noticed except you,” I grinned. “But I’ll tone it down.”
“That girl really is glowing,” he laughed as he opened the door.

The next morning, I sat down for my exam with Dave. A few minutes before the start, Karen and Miss Wenword arrived. My girlfriend looked stunning in her modest outfit, but I understood if some of the whistles were meant for Karen.“Good morning, everyone,” Karen greeted as Jenny started organizing the papers. “Please take your bags and move to the row assigned to your group.”She pointed out where each group should sit. I moved to the edge of my row—I had been placed in the hardest group.Jenny and Karen waited until everyone had moved, then handed out the test papers from opposite sides of the room. I heard a few guys making comments, but Jenny handled them effortlessly. Karen, being a teaching assistant, was treated with more respect.Dave sat a few desks away—he was in the middle category.
It was a huge venue—four identical bikini-clad dancers performed on small stages in each corner. Near the entrance, the DJ’s podium stood, where people could step up to request songs. Opposite the entrance, the bar wasn’t against the wall, allowing space for high-backed booths surrounding tables.“Look,” Mayoko pointed. “The DJ from last summer.”“Awesome, my girl’s number one fan,” I joked. Of course, he spotted us at the entrance and waved.Paul went to get drinks with Daryl and Brian while the rest of us found a free table.“Messyhair,” Jenny whispered in my ear after we sat down and started sipping our drinks. “Do me a favor—go congratulate them.”“Of course, beautiful,” I smiled and headed to the podium once everyone was seated. After the game, we waited until most of the crowd had cleared out.“Pizzeria?” Frankie asked while we waited.“It’s your birthday,” Brian smiled at him.“I hope you’re not upset about Daryl’s idea,” Diane said cautiously.“Not at all,” Frankie grinned. “You guys made this birthday unforgettable.”We left the stadium and Brian drove us to a pizzeria near the city park.It was a wooden building with large windows. The kitchen was right by the entrance, where a guy in colorful clothes and oversized glasses greeted us.The pizzeria had a nostalgic style—the waitresses wore quirky, colorful outfits or pants, accessorized with huge necklaces and headbands. Flowers and peace signs were painted all over the whit
“I’ll pick you up early tomorrow morning,” he said before walking me to the door.“Uncle Steve,” I said as we reached the entrance, “if it’s okay, I’d rather not tell anyone that I’m your apprentice.”“I wasn’t planning to either,” he smiled. “Anything else?”“For me, the bonus questions aren’t just optional, right?”“I don’t think I even need to answer that,” he laughed. “I liked your response to the alcohol question too.”We shook hands, and I stepped outside.“Messyhair,” Jenny ran after me once I was already on the street. “Just don’t leave me behind on Sunday.”Right there, in the open street, she wrapped her arms around my neck and kissed me. She never would have done that be
On Monday morning, we headed to school, but I knew that during the week, I’d only see her in the evenings because of the shop.“Where were you this weekend, Jay?” Phil asked before class.“With my girlfriend.”“You got a girlfriend pretty fast,” he laughed.“Luckily, that’s never been a problem,” I laughed. I didn’t feel like telling them who she was.Until midweek, our evenings together at her place were all we had. Once Paul returned, I usually slept at the dorm. A few more months, and we’d be together every day anyway. On Friday, after school, I drove us home—we took one car, so we had time to talk.“Babe,” I starte
“I’m a girl, and I read. Yes.” Jenny set her book down and stood up from the couch.“Babe,” I said matter-of-factly. She smiled awkwardly, but I didn’t correct myself. “There’s a statue of you. You know, at the exhibition where Bria
“Paul,” she said suspiciously, “why do you look so tense?” She paused. “Is something wrong?”“We need to talk, just the five of us,” Paul said.“About what?” Jenny ask
I was impatiently waiting for Saturday. I was alone because all my roommates had gone home for the weekend. Brian and I had planned everything so that everyone would arrive at his place an hour before Jenny, but I was the first to get there. Brian had already invited me over for
Once everyone had a copy, Karen wrote the remaining time on the board and quietly sat down next to Jenny, pulling out a book to read. I stayed low over my desk, scribbling my name on the paper and starting the test.People began whispering and pulling o
