Chapter 1

I couldn't look away from the explicit photos filling the giant screen.

Years ago, I trusted the wrong man. My ex-husband had posted those pictures online, and for a long time, that was all anyone saw when they looked at me.

Leon Coleman was the one who saved me from the depression that had driven me to the edge of suicide, warming my heart again little by little with his love.

"Gemma, I don't care about your past. From now on, I won't let anyone hurt you again."

I believed him.

It took me three years to open my heart again, warmed by what I thought was love. Somewhere along the way, I started thinking about marriage again.

For three months straight, I dreamed about this day, about walking down the aisle in a white dress and finally stepping into something that felt like happiness.

I never thought Allison Fleming could destroy it with a few photos.

The groomsmen noticed how pale I had gone and rushed to smooth things over.

"Allison's been one of us for years. That's just how she is. No filter."

"She doesn't mean anything by it. You chose to take those pictures. If you weren't ashamed of them then, why are you ashamed now? Just let it go."

Those photos should have been gone.

Instead, Allison had put them up here for everyone to see.

I let out a quiet laugh. "She ruined my wedding, and you're saying she doesn't mean anything?"

Their expressions tightened at once.

Allison stepped forward with reddened eyes, hitting her chest like she was owning it.

"Fine! If you're mad, take it out on me. Leon's one of us. What's wrong with us looking out for him? Better than letting him marry just anyone."

Her gaze flicked over me, light and dismissive.

"We just wanted everyone to get a good look. I still don't get what he sees in used goods like you."

My hands trembled.

Allison sighed, like she was the only reasonable one in the room.

"I told you, women like her are a pain. It's just a few photos, and she's still making a scene. Don't get married, guys. We're better off sticking together."

A laugh slipped out before I could stop it. "Then why doesn't he just marry you?"

The color drained from her face.

Leon stepped in front of her without hesitation.

"Gemma, that's enough. Allison's just looking out for me. She's not as sensitive as you, and she doesn't play those games. There's no need to push it this far."

I held his gaze.

Our wedding had turned into a spectacle, the room buzzing with whispers and speculation, and he was defending her.

Allison threw an arm around a few of the guys and grinned. "Alright, that's enough. It's Leon's big day. Do me a favor and let it go. Tonight, we're drinking until we drop!"

Leon looked at her with open indulgence.

Tonight was supposed to be our wedding night.

What she meant was obvious, and what hurt more was that he didn't object.

As the whispers behind me grew louder, I turned to leave.

Leon caught my hand, his voice softening. "Gemma, Allison's already let it go. Don't be petty, okay? You're the only one I love. You're the only one I'm marrying. Don't make a big deal out of this."

He stood there with one hand in his pocket, completely at ease, like none of this mattered.

He was sure that I wouldn't leave, that I loved him too much.

My hand drifted to my stomach, still flat beneath the dress.

This time, I really wanted to walk away.

I sued Leon and Allison for invasion of privacy, defamation, and the emotional and financial harm they had caused me. The authorities also opened a criminal investigation into the role they played in my mother's death. Any one of those charges would have been serious on its own.On the day of the hearing, they were escorted into the courtroom and seated at the defense table. The moment Allison saw me, she lunged forward, completely out of control. "Gemma, you tramp! You ruined me!" The bailiff forced her back into her seat.Leon didn't move. He sat there watching me the entire time without saying a word, regret and something close to pleading written plainly in his eyes. After the judge read the charges, I presented my evidence one piece at a time.Leon's affair. Allison's distribution of my private photos.Every photo, every text message, every document showed how the two of them had worked together to destroy my life. Each exhibit felt like another knife twisting in Leon'

The Colemans moved quickly. Three days later, the investigation was complete. It wasn't just the photos from the wedding. Every image circulating online had been orchestrated by Allison, including the latest wave of harassment. She had taken the photos my ex posted years ago and pushed them back into circulation.Leon's hands shook as he read the report.Seven years ago, those same photos had nearly driven me to suicide. He had been the one who stayed with me then, helping me out of that darkness, helping me believe I could start over. And now, at the wedding I had waited three years for, he had stood there while I was humiliated in front of everyone. If Allison had planned it all, then he had been right there beside her, letting it happen. That made him no better. He found Allison at a bar, drinking with a group of men. The moment she saw him, she brightened and rushed over."Leon, you finally came to see me! I knew you couldn't let me go."Leon didn't respond. He threw the r

I woke up three days later with a hollow ache low in my abdomen, like something important had been taken from me. The nurse told me I had miscarried, and then, almost as an afterthought, that my mom was gone, too. I lay there, staring at the ceiling while tears slid quietly into my hair. The door opened, a little too loud for the stillness in the room. Leon stepped in, careful, carrying a thermos. His eyes were swollen, his face drawn with exhaustion."You're awake," he said. "I made some soup. Try to eat a little."I turned my head away.He set the thermos down and sat beside my bed, tears falling. I stared at him, stunned. Leon had always carried himself like someone untouchable. I had never seen him look so defeated. For a moment, all I could see was myself apologizing through tears, begging him to save my mom while he looked at me without a shred of compassion."I'm sorry," he said, his voice hoarse. "I didn't know you were pregnant. If I had, I never would've…"I cut

I lost consciousness the moment I hit the lawn outside the villa.Leon ran downstairs, scooped me up, and drove straight to the hospital, running multiple red lights along the way. He kept his eyes forward, avoiding the blood, refusing to think about what it might mean.He waited outside for five hours before the doctor finally came out and spoke."Mr. Coleman, your wife came in with a threatened miscarriage. We couldn't save the baby."Leon went completely still. He stood there holding my blood-soaked body, his hands shaking. "What did you say? Say that again."The doctor sighed. "She suffered severe emotional distress, and there was external trauma. We couldn't save the pregnancy. We did everything we could."Leon's eyes turned red, his voice unsteady. "She was pregnant?"For a brief second, something like overwhelming relief flickered across his face, then disappeared just as quickly. The baby was gone. His child was gone. The doctor looked at him, confused. "Your wife w

The wedding was called off, and my mom was rushed to the hospital after collapsing. I sat outside the operating room, staring at the red light that never seemed to turn off, my heart pounding as I kept praying she would make it.Leon showed up with Allison, her eyes red. The moment he saw me, his expression hardened. "Allison's getting dragged online because of you."Someone had taken photos from the wedding, the moment Allison started taking off her clothes, edited them, and posted them online. The comments were filthy, calling her a mistress, a tramp, tearing her apart. Before I could even process it, Leon grabbed my arm and yanked me up from the chair. I was already weak from early pregnancy, and my legs gave out. I hit the cold floor hard, pain shooting through me, but he didn't even glance down."Apologize to Allison," he said. "If you hadn't made a scene at the wedding, none of this would've happened."Tears burned in my eyes as I pointed toward the operating room. "Sh

Leon reacted immediately, his voice sharp. "Gemma, have you lost your mind? You're making this into something it's not!"A faint, bitter smile crossed my face. Before I could respond, Allison clenched her jaw and grabbed her shirt."Fine. I'll do it. It's not like I care about this stuff." She glanced at Leon. "Watch closely. I'm not as uptight as your wife."She sounded confident, but after pulling her shirt halfway off and revealing a pale pink bra, her hands stalled."Go on," I said calmly. Her eyes reddened. After a brief pause, she yanked the rest of her shirt off in one sharp motion. Her back was covered in marks, dark and light, scattered across her skin.A murmur spread through the room. "Wait, isn't Allison single? Where'd all those hickeys come from?"Leon's expression hardened. He took off his suit jacket, wrapped it around her, and pulled her into his arms as if to block her from view. Then he turned to me, his gaze cold, and slapped me.The sound rang out, sharp
