For the first time, I wished my parents’ mansion was in another country.

But no, 'lucky' me, it was fifteen minutes away.

Still in the car, I decided to take Vance's call. He'd been calling non-stop after I texted him asking for Marshall's contact. Even before then he'd been calling like everyone else.

"Solayne, thank God you finally answered. I'm on my way to your place." His voice was taut with worry.

"I'm not home."

"Where are you?"

"My parents." I dragged my fingers through my hair. "You haven't sent the number, Vance."

"Because I don't have it. He changes his number too frequently. I don't have the current one, unless I ask my mum."

Fucking hell.

"Give me his address, then. Or is he at your parents?"

"Solayne, I need to know what's going on. What is that video all about?"

"Well, I don't know either!" My voice rose a notch. I forced in a breath, pressed a hand to my temple, and softened my tone. "I'm sorry, Vance. M—My head is a mess right now. Everyone's been calling. My dad wants to see me. I don't know what to do."

He was quiet.

"I'll explain everything to you once I'm done here. For now, just give me his address. Please."

"Fine. But I'm following you there. Let me know when you're going."

"Sure, thanks."

When the call ended, I set the phone beside me and gripped the steering wheel with both hands, took a really deep breath and said a prayer for myself.

Then, I stepped out of the car, ready to face a nightmare.

Brielle was the first person I saw. Of course she was. The universe had a sick sense of humor. She was perched on the couch in the downstairs living room, laughing into her phone. Her eyes met mine mid-laugh.

"She's here," she said sweetly to whoever was on the other end before hanging up.

"Wow. Marshall's New Slut." She rose slowly, crossing her arms like she’d been rehearsing this moment all morning.

My hand tightened around my bag strap.

"Who would've thought, Solayne, that you'd fall for one brother same night you were rejected by the younger one?"

"I hope this doesn't hurt your feelings, but you're the least of my problems," I told her, my eyes moving to the staircase as I wondered where I'd find dad.

She laughed, not looking a bit affected. How would she when she knew I was the only one hurting here?

I made for the stairs.

"Why don't you tell me how good it was? Are the rumours true? Is he really a monster in bed? Like, a real monster?"

I shook my head, not sparing her a look.

"You know this is worse than a scandal, right? You’ve brought shame to the family’s perfect little image. Better start saying goodbye to that company."

"You wish." I stopped on the third step, turning to glare at her. "The world could burn for all I care; you'll never take what is mine, Brielle. I'll never allow it."

Her brows lifted, a spark of challenge igniting in her eyes. "Then, dear sister, I'd like to see how you crawl out of this mess."

We locked eyes a moment longer before I turned and headed up.

Mum was waiting in the second living room, pacing. The moment she saw me, her expression hardened. The look she gave me as she rose to her feet was enough to make me take a step back.

She opened her mouth, fire already forming on her tongue, when Dad appeared in the doorway.

If Mum’s anger burned hot, Dad’s was ice-cold. It was the kind of look kids saw and ran under their beds.

"To my office. Now."

Mum went after him while I followed last. I'd already rehearsed everything in my head on my way here. Hopefully, I'd do a good performance.

Mum sat on the couch while Dad took his seat behind his desk. And me? I stood before him with my fingers fiddling with my bag strap like some prodigal daughter on trial.

For a while, no word was said. Then, tap. Tap. Tap.

Dad began drumming his pen against the desk.

My father was intimidating by default. He was large and had this permanent scowl. Growing up, I often wondered how two women ever fought over a man whose face looked allergic to smiling.

"You better start talking, Solayne. Because trust me, you don’t want me to be the first to open my mouth."

My palms became too sweaty. Shit. Get it together.

"I—I honestly don't know how the video leaked. I'm sorry, dad. Sorry if it—"

"Who cares about how the damn video leaked? I’m talking about you being wrapped around some playboy who uses and dumps women like garbage. People are calling you his slut. His slut, Solayne. How can the future CEO of Krestel Holdings carry that label? When did you become a whore?"

"I'm not a whore," I said too quickly. My eyes found the floor. "Marshall and I... we're dating. And last night, we were just saying our goodbyes. I don't know which enemy recorded and released that video."

His brows shot up. Slowly. "Did you say you and Marshall Domayne are in a relationship? That boy doesn't do relationships. Everyone knows that."

"Well, we have been in one for a long time now. We were just keeping it private until the right moment. I never intended for it to be revealed this way."

He looked confused as hell. He passed a glance at mum before looking back at me again. "I thought he just got back? How have you been in a relationship for a long time?"

"We've been... communicating on phone. Plus a couple of times now, I've flown over to see him. We've been cool, Dad."

God help my soul, I didn't even have the guy's number. I sincerely hoped this conversation would die in this office.

"Hm." He tapped his pen. "I see. Marshall Domayne. He's a good one. Quite successful. A name like that would bring good boost to the company's image."

My heartbeat relocated to my ears. What was he saying?

"Well, Solayne, I hope he loves you enough to get married to you. Henceforth, the people needs to think you two are engaged. I'll talk to the PR team and see how we can achieve that."

"Dad—"

"It's to help with the scandal. It'll erase the narrative of you being his latest slut or whatever." He dropped the pen, picking up his phone as if finalizing a business deal.

"Tell him I want to see him tonight. I need him here for dinner."

SOLAYNE My palms were sweaty. I was so nervous I couldn't keep myself still.I was seated in the boardroom with every member of the board waiting. The only people left were Dad and Brielle.I was sure Dad would be here soon, but I couldn't say the same for Brielle. She'd been very distant since I left the company. I expected him to hand everything over to her immediately after I left two months ago, but he didn't. And over time, I was told she stopped showing up.It was last night when Dad called, telling me to be here for the board meeting. I had no doubt he had called me here to officially end my relationship with the company. This was why I was so nervous.I almost didn't want to show up; but Marshall convinced me and assured me he would wait in the car. So from time to time, I looked at the window, knowing my husband was out there waiting even though I couldn't see him from here.Dad walked in and everyone stood to their feet. The knot in my stomach became tighter.I wouldn't

SOLAYNE Marshall and I were getting married again. The last two weeks had been so calming for me.Marshall and I fell in love more than we thought was possible. We were always around each other and found it so hard keeping our hands off. True to his words, he took his therapy really seriously. Had the expert flown into the country and arranged for accommodation that was very close to ours. That way, the doctor was only a few minutes away if Marshall had an emergency with his urges.I believed in him. Mostly because there was no other option. I didn't see myself living without Marshall Domayne, monster or not. He had become the sun my whole world orbited. The only thought that filled my head when I went to sleep and woke up. Suddenly I started to wonder how I had been managing to live without him this whole time.So yes, the only option I had was to believe he'd overcome this and become better. Because God help me, I was sticking with him through it all.Vance turned up a week aft

SOLAYNE "Where is he?" I asked Marshall a long time later when we were the only ones left in the room.I had just finished eating, taking my drugs and being checked by the nurses."Who are you talking about?" Marshall tried to keep it cool. He was packing up the plates I ate from."You know who I'm talking about. Where's Vance?"He didn't answer or look at me until he was done packing them. Then he reclined in his seat and pinned me with a cold stare."Where he needs to be."He didn't look apologetic about the fact that he went back on his word and stopped trying to restrain himself. He gave me that look that told me he would do it all over again if he had to.I gulped hard, looked down at the floor for some seconds, then up at him."Where is he?" I asked again. "I want to see him."That pulled a surprised look from him. "Why would you want to see him?""I don't know; maybe because he almost killed me?" I fisted my hands. "Vance ruined my life. More than once. Yet I tried to igno

SOLAYNE Marshall and I really did make it happen. The wedding.Although we needed something small, by a private beach. It cost us a lot of money to have the entire place shut off to customers, but well, Marshall made it happen. This wasn't exactly the dream wedding I had in mind growing up. I had always pictured a large church hall filled with people who would all be smiling as I walked down the aisle. Always imagined a very large reception party with my red dress and wine in hand as I moved through the crowd greeting guests. The odds were against Marshall and me, but I was beyond glad we were actually making it happen. He was the last thing that mattered in my life. The only thing that didn't go away. And I also came to realize that losing him would kill me more than everything else did.As I came out of the parked Jeep to walk down the aisle, I noticed we actually had guests. That surprised me.Marshall was already at the altar, his eyes solely on me. So I kept my eyes on him to

II knew I sounded stupid. He had just made it clear our relationship didn't continue because of the deal.He put both hands on my waist again. "Solayne Krestel, just in case I hadn't been clear enough, I'm in love with you. Madly. Truly. I couldn't even let you go after finding out you betrayed me. What makes you think I would let you go even now? The deal has been dead to me a long time ago. You became the deal. And life with you would be beyond a dream come true."My heart was beating too loud. Too erratic."Marshall..." I called in a hushed tone. "I don't—You are..." I shook my head slowly. "You're a murderer.""I've been working on it." His voice turned desperate. "Now more than ever. Look, I am aware it was Vance who hurt you. Believe me, I have pictured multiple ways to make his life unbearable. But I haven't done any of those, babe. I thought of you and refused to hurt him despite how hard it's been. I'm trying to be less of a monster and become a better man for you. I—I badly

I felt cold outside despite how warm it was. I drove carefully, my eyes scanning the road like people would just come out of nowhere and start laughing at me.Okay. Maybe this didn't have to be so bad. Maybe I wouldn't even get to see anyone at all.It took me fifteen minutes to get to the location. It truly was a small facility and didn't look like it had enough equipment. Why would Kylie bring her victim here if she didn't want them to survive?Kylie was already pacing outside and ran to my car the moment she saw me.I hesitated coming out of the car. The road was too busy with too many people. Ninety-five percent of them had probably seen my video. They were all going to see me and laugh at me.Kylie rapped on my window, forcing me to open my door and leave the car."Thank you so much for coming, ma'am. You don't know how worried I was." She went ahead to start explaining how the accident happened. While she did, I kept looking around at the people who were obviously starting to no
