LOGINCamille's POV
In the restaurant, Travis stared at me, his blue-gray eyes full of concern.
"Are you really sure about this, Camille?"
I nodded, my fingertips tracing the edge of the violin case.
"After my mom died, this was the only thing that got me through the hardest days. Every time I play, I remember her teaching us. I was such a fool—I let it collect dust for five years all for an alpha who wasn't worth it."
I let out a self-deprecating laugh.
"Besides, Rowan's health is back on track. He's the future leader of the Aurora Shadows and he's found a new mommy. He hasn't needed me for a long time."
"What about Lucian?" Travis asked. "With his ego, how's he going to react to you going back on stage?"
At the mention of that name, my gaze turned cold.
"My life belongs to me now. I don't need anyone's permission, especially not his."
Travis watched me for a moment, his worry deepening.
"Have you thought this through? That arrogant prick has always seen you as his property. He never liked you being around me."
"Nobody cares what he thinks."
When I first got with Lucian, I cut off all contact with Travis just because Lucian said he didn't like the guy.
Guilt washed over me at the thought. I leaned forward and took his hand.
"Listen, Travis, I owe you an apology. I was so stupid back then."
Travis shook his head and squeezed my hand back. His palm was warm and dry, giving me a strange sense of peace. "No, you don't owe me anything. It's my fault for not keeping the promise I made to your mother. I let you suffer in that pack for way too long."
I was about to say something to comfort him when a familiar voice piped up.
"Oh, Camille, what a coincidence. Am I interrupting your date?"
I turned around to see Lara standing behind me, arms crossed, wearing that fake smile I hated.
Meeting her twice in one day felt like a curse from the Moon Goddess.
"Lucian finally makes it home, and you—the woman who claims to love him—leave him in an empty house so you can come out on a date with another male? That's not a great look, is it?"
She sounded so innocent, playing the holy angel while making me out to be the heartless villain.
I set my fork down and caught the glint of triumph in her eyes.
"Why is Lucian rarely home? Because you occupy every second of his time with your pathetic excuses. Lucian isn't here, Lara. You can stop playing dumb."
Lara instantly looked panicked and reached out to grab my arm.
"Oh Camille, you've got it all wrong, I didn't mean it like that..."
I pulled my hand back, rolling my eyes.
"Save it. Lucian's not watching. Quit the act—it just makes you look cheap."
"Ah!"
The second I pulled away, Lara let out a sharp shriek. She threw herself backward with dramatic force, as if she'd been shoved by a massive wave.
Before I could even react, a tall figure charged forward with a violent aura, catching her before she hit the ground.
"Lara! Are you okay?"
It was Lucian.
Lara looked up, her face pale and her eyes brimming with tears, looking completely victimized.
"I'm fine... don't be mad. I'm sure Camille didn't mean it. She's just in a bad mood after what happened today. Please don't blame her, okay?"
Lucian's golden wolf eyes flared with pure rage.
He finally looked at me, his voice bone-chilling.
"Apologize to Lara. Right now."
I laughed. This scene had played out a thousand times over the last five years.
The old me would have panicked, explaining myself and begging for his forgiveness.
I knew that if I didn't bow down, Lucian would ghost me for weeks—he wouldn't come home, he'd block me on the mind-link, he'd even take Rowan away for days without warning just to punish me.
He'd do it until I obeyed.
Thinking of that, I let my own aura flare out to push back against him.
"Why should I?"
Lucian froze, as if I'd just told a ridiculous joke.
"What did you say?"
I stood up and looked him right in those threatening eyes.
"When I cared about you, every word you said was like a command I had to follow. But now? I don't care about you."
I took a step closer.
"So, who the hell do you think you are?"
Lucian's breath hitched.
I wasn't the Camille who lived in his shadow anymore.
His chest heaved as his gaze darted between me and Travis, his eyes bleeding into a crazed scarlet.
"Mommy, how could you turn into this?"
I flinched. Rowan peeked out from behind Lucian, looking at me with pure judgment before turning a worried face toward Lara.
"You owe Lara an apology."
Lucian's POVSoothed by Lara's gentle voice, Rowan finally stopped crying and fussing. To cheer him up, Lara suggested we grab a bite at a nearby restaurant. The three of us had just sat down when I spotted Camille and Finn not far away. They were sharing a strawberry milkshake, chatting and laughing every now and then, looking exactly like a close-knit mother and son.Damn it. I wanted to go somewhere else, but Rowan really loved the food here, so I had no choice but to flag down a waiter.A second later, Rowan noticed his mom too, and his anger started simmering again.Lara quickly noticed Rowan's shift in mood."Lucian, what exactly is going on between Camille and that kid, Finn? Why does it feel like she treats him even better than she treats Rowan?"I let out a cold scoff, already calculating in my head how to get Finn away from Camille."Dad, does Mom really not want me anymore?"Rowan's voice cracked with tears, making my heart ache.Lara beat me to it, gently stroking Rowan's
Camille's POV"Honestly, I don't really believe it." My voice was even colder than his."After all, just because he's mad at me, he had no problem lying in front of a crowd, claiming I wasn't his mom and just some lowly servant. So right now, there's a good chance he's lying about Finn just because he hates him."Lucian's pupils shrank to slits. His alpha aura vibrated in the air, the pressure so heavy it was hard to breathe."Camille, do you really think of your own son as such a despicable kid?""I didn't say that. But he's lied in public multiple times, so it's perfectly reasonable for me to doubt him."Lucian's aura grew heavier with my words, trying to force me into submission, but my wolf only felt disgusted."No matter what he did wrong, he is the child the Moon Goddess gave you. That's a fact. Camille, are you actually planning to abandon him?"I let out a bleak laugh and crossed my arms."You're wrong. He abandoned me. To him, I'm just a mother who brings him shame. He's prob
Camille's POVRowan guiltily looked away for a split second, but eventually gave a hesitant nod.His classmates instantly erupted into gasps of envy."Wow! Your dad is so handsome, and your mom is so pretty! Her pheromones smell amazing! Just like roses!"The praise from his peers made Rowan incredibly smug.He puffed out his chest and lied proudly, "My mom is the best violinist on the entire East Coast! In a few months, she's even having her own solo concert!"The other kids all let out another round of envious oohs and aahs."Oh my gosh! Rowan, your mom is that amazing?"Just then, a little she-wolf cub suddenly drooped her ears in dismay and muttered, "Man, I wish my mom was that cool. But she's just a commoner who stays home all day like an omega... It's so embarrassing. I never even talk about her at school."Suddenly, another student blinked in confusion."But Rowan, didn't another pretty she-wolf use to drive you to school every day? I thought she was your mom."Hearing that, R
Camille's POVFinn glared at Rowan and roared his final sentence."Camille is the most perfect mother in the world! If you don't want her, I do!"The teachers in the room were shocked by Finn's words. Their eyes darted back and forth between me, Lucian, and Lara. When they looked at me again, there was a lot more sympathy in their gazes. As for me, hearing what Finn just said made my eyes burn. I could only try my hardest to fight back the urge to cry.I had only been taking care of Finn for a few days, yet this child with absolutely no blood relation to me knew to stand up and protect me when I was being questioned.Meanwhile, Rowan—who I had spent five whole years of my youth painstakingly raising—used the most vicious words to accuse me, his own mother.Lucian's cold questioning interrupted my thoughts."Camille, did you not hear Rowan say it himself? This Finn has been secretly bullying him. Before you got here, Rowan also said Finn constantly shows off the food you make for him i
Camille's POVLucian irritably loosened his collar."Come on, for the Moon Goddess's sake, he's just a five-year-old kid!"I suddenly let out a laugh."So you're saying Lara, Gillian, and Rowan can slander and smear me all they want, but the moment I try to defend myself with evidence, I'm just being petty and unreasonable?"I stared numbly at his cold face."Alpha Lucian Lynch, does being marked by you mean permanently losing my dignity? Does it mean I have to bow down not just to you, but to every single friend you have? To live like a slave?"The scents of burnt wood and fir radiating from him violently clashed in the air.The veins on his forehead popped as he roared, "Camille! Are you really going to air our dirty laundry in a public place like a school?"I shot back without missing a beat, "You know what? I don't give a damn."Lucian's nostrils flared. I figured he must absolutely hate me right now—and that thought actually felt amazing. But the next second, Lara's fragile voice
Camille's POVLara seemed afraid that Rowan's words would trigger Lucian's guilt, so she hurriedly interrupted."Lucian, when you really get down to it, this whole thing isn't entirely Rowan's fault. Camille abandoned Rowan and ran off to take care of the Blood Curtain pack's heir..."She looked at me with a blaming gaze."Rowan is just using his own way to try and get a little bit of his mother's attention and pheromone comfort. What did he do wrong? At the end of the day, isn't it Camille who is failing her duties? Why are you ganging up with the academy's teachers here to bully your own son for the sake of an unrelated child?"I slowly stood up. Facing Lara's hypocrisy-filled face, I let out a somewhat sarcastic laugh."Then I would like to ask everyone sitting here: over the past five years, when Lara repeatedly provoked my dignity countless times, why did my mate and my son side with her without any bottom line?"Five-year-old Rowan couldn't understand this at all.He screamed in
Camille's POVDeclan gave me an appreciative glance before looking back at Lucian. "Alpha Lucian, you were nowhere to be found when Camille was being cornered. Now that she's safe, what are you doing here? Trying to take the credit?"Lucian's eyes darkened, but he didn't say a word.Lara spoke up i
Camille's POV"Who else could it be?" I let out a self-deprecating laugh. He let out a low rumble of laughter. "Camille, you don't need to overthink anything here. Just tell me: do you want me to stop it, or not?""Controlling the media won't be necessary. But there is something else I'd like your
Camille's POVSeeing Tom pull away and safely shield him inside the car was the only thing that let me finally breathe a sigh of relief. As more and more attackers closed in, I could only curl up on the concrete, wrapping my arms tight around my head. I let them rain down kicks and punches. Slowly,
Camille's POVAs we approached, a massive, stern-looking male wolf quickly stepped forward. He carried the powerful aura typical of a high-ranking werewolf and bowed to me."Good morning, Camille. I'm Tom, the driver alpha Declan sent to handle Finn's transportation."I doubted Tom was just a drive
