Neriah POV

I’m back in my room at home. Back with my father and stepmother, though that isn’t saying much. They always favored Jemisha over me. I was just a fool who tried and failed to win their affection.

When my mother passed away, my father was quick to remarry. I was young, still a pup. After they got married, Jemisha was born. My father seemed to forget I existed after that. I was always given the second pick of everything, while Jemisha always got the best. My entire life, I always took a back seat to my half-sister.

This time, though, I’m going to change my fate. This time, I’m not going to beg for affection that none of them have for me. I’m getting out of here. I’m eighteen, and I am free to do what I want.

I don’t get an allowance from my father, as Jemisha does. Still, the money I did get, which was only fifty dollars a month, I split and saved. I used half for my necessities and the other half I saved, in hopes that one day, when I turned eighteen, I could have a nice dress for my birthday. That fell through, though. My parents didn’t even celebrate it with me. My first shift was in the woods alone. I never showed anyone my wolf.

My wolf is unique. She is navy blue, and her eyes are mercury-silver. She’s beautiful, and she likes me. She never liked Silas, but I couldn’t be bothered to listen to her. In my last life, that cost me dearly. I didn’t just lose my ability to have pups, but I also lost my wolf. In this life, I will do everything I can to keep my wolf and not let history repeat itself.

Previously, my wolf, Nila, said she was special, but couldn’t explain it to me until we found our mate. We never found our mate because I was too hung up on Silas. What a waste of time.

‘Wait for our mate. He will find us, Neri,’ Nila said.

‘I know. This time is going to be different.’

‘I see what happened in your past life. That pathetic asshole didn’t deserve you. That pack didn’t deserve you, Neri.’

‘Don’t worry, Nila. This time, we are doing things differently.’

‘You should withdraw from the competition. That way, we can leave and search for our mate.’

‘Agreed. Let’s start with changing how our family looks at us.’

I got up, got ready, went downstairs, and didn’t bother greeting anyone. I opened the fridge and pulled out the juice that Jemisha loves so much, but I never got to drink, even though I liked it too.

“What are you doing?” Regina, my stepmother, asked.

“Drinking juice.”

“That is for Jemisha. You can have water.”

I looked at my father and chuckled sarcastically. “Really? You forget my eighteenth birthday, I shift outside, in the woods, alone, no party, celebration, or even a gift, and now you begrudge me a glass of juice, because it belongs to your precious Jemisha?”

“How dare you talk back?!” Regina said loudly with fake outrage.

My father’s eyes flickered with guilt. I didn’t break eye contact with him. Then he looked at Regina.

“Let her have the juice. One glass isn’t going to kill Jemisha,” then he looked at me. “I’m sorry we forgot your birthday. I’m sorry you shifted on your own. You did get your wolf though?”

I scoffed. That’s it. “Yeah, but please, don’t act as if you care. Ever since you brought that woman here and spawned that brat you favor over me, I long since stopped believing or desiring anyone’s affection in this house. I’m leaving. I have things to do.”

I drank the juice in one sitting, put the glass in the sink, and walked out. Before I turned, I saw my father’s eyes. Shock and guilt crossed. Regina’s face was turning red with rage. I smiled to myself. In this life, I know how to handle these fools.

In this life, no one will be playing me for a fool this time. I already know what stunts they are going to pull, and I am not going to run around, waiting for them to see me. Sometimes the best thing a person can do for herself is make them feel her absence. For now, though, this is just me pissing off Regina.

I walked out of the house and walked to the bus line to the capital where the show is going to be filmed. I already know how to win this competition. I don’t need anyone to tell me what to do. I just want out.

When the bus finally arrives and I board, I see pack members looking at me with disgust. In my past life, I would cower away. Now, I couldn’t be bothered to pay them any mind. Though one woman kept staring at me hard with disgust.

Finally, I’d had enough. “Do you mind letting me have my face, lady? Staring that hard might make everyone here think you are sexually attracted to me,” I said loudly and without shame.

Her eyes bulged, and she turned away. “Some she-wolves don’t know how to be a lady.”

I laughed loudly. “And some old she-wolves don’t know how to mind their own damn business.”

‘Yes! This is who we need to be, Neri!’ Nila said in my mind.

‘No one gets to make us feel small again, Nila. No one.’

I enjoyed this chapter. She’s tough. She’s not gonna let Silas and her sister put her down. Three years was too small. And her sister planting that poisonous snake to make her sterile and almost kill her. But this is her half sister. She has other family. She’s gotta find them. Her wolf is gonna her

  • Luna's Prime Time Rebirth   Chapter 14: Ambition

Ambrose POVWell, I suppose having a pet name from my mate is a step in the right direction. Amby sounds like an abandoned baby deer. I’m not hopeless, and I’m certainly not abandoned. Monte escorted Neriah back to her dressing room to get ready and then reported to me immediately. When he came back into the room, his expression was one of concern.“What happened?” I asked.“Alpha,” he began, “Luna’s family treats her terribly. I overheard one of their conversations before intervening.”My expression darkens. “What did you hear?”“Her father, stepmother, and sister tried to get her to share the dressing room. When Neriah declined, I heard her tell them every instance she could immediately recall of their neglect. The intent was to boot Neriah out of the dressing room you prepared for her. Just like they booted her from her own bedroom at Moon Heart, they gave her the smallest room, with a bed that apparently doesn’t hold her now. She made mention that the blankets don’t cover her. Her

Jemisha POVI’m fuming at having to share a dressing room with two other contestants. My father and mother left because they had no other choice. My mother told me to make sure the other contestants know the favoritism being given to Neriah, so everyone shuns her. If I create the ripple, the effect will get bigger on its own. So, that’s what I do.“Hi. I’m Jemisha,” I said to the two women in the room. The first one to respond smiles brightly. “I’m Natalie.”She is cute, petite, and has big breasts. I’m sure there will be alphas who want her on that alone. The second one looks athletic but feminine.“I’m Heidi,” she said.“It’s nice to meet you both. My sister, Neriah, is in this competition, but she has her own dressing room, so I guess it’s just us three in here,” I said happily, knowing full well what I’m doing.Natalie and Heidi looked at each other, then turned away. “That’s good for your sister. Lucky her,” Natalie said.“Very lucky,” Heidi said.“I heard there was a last-minute

Neriah POV“The contestants eat dinner as a group. I was going to eat in my room and invite you, but if you would rather eat as a group, I will accompany you,” he added. He would do that for me? That I would love to see. I smirked. “Okay. I want to eat with the group and meet people.”His eyebrows furrowed. “Do you not meet people now?”I laughed sarcastically. “You’ve seen my file. You tell me.”“It’s not in your file. I’m asking you.”I sighed. “I was told I was not needed, growing up. Jemisha met people. She made friends, and any friends I made turned on me because of her. I’ve been a loner. Until I got Nila, I didn’t have anyone to talk to or be close to, Ambrose.”His eyes saddened. “I’m sorry, Neri.”I shrugged my shoulders. “The only person that ever gave me a shred of attention was Alpha Silas. But he isn’t the same anymore. I don’t want to deal with him in this competition, but I don’t think I’m going to have a way around that, now am I?”His eyes darkened. “I don’t think so.

  • Luna's Prime Time Rebirth   Chapter 11: Insane

Neriah POVAfter my disgraceful genetic relations left, Monte told me he had been asked to bring me to the producer's office. I grabbed my keycard, and I followed him. As we got closer, I started smelling pine and tobacco.I never imagined that Alpha Prince Ambrose would be my mate! I’m star-struck. This is insane! I’ve never been allowed to meet anyone important. My father always took Jemisha to important events and told me that I wasn’t needed. Now I don’t know how to act.Ambrose made me feel calm, though. He spoke to me like a regular person. He was transparent about why he joined, and then asked me to stand beside him. Not behind him, but beside him.Nila was urging me to say yes. Then I asked her if she had her gift.‘Not yet. We need to mate and mark each other. Then it will get released. We need to do that like right now.’‘Restrain your tits, Nila. We just met the guy!’‘He’s hot. He’s royal. I bet he is fantastic in bed and HE’S OUR MATE!’‘Stop. Being. A. Desperate. Hoe.’ I

Ambrose POV“Parker, I need to meet her before the group meeting. If we acknowledge the bond in front of everyone, then the media will catch wind of everything and a target will be on her back,” I said.“It’s against the rules.”“I didn’t sign a damn contract. Bring her here,” I said, looking at Monte. He nodded and left the room.“She signed a contract,” Parker muttered.I gave him a deadpan look. “Don’t act like a petulant child now.”After twenty minutes, Monte came back, and Neriah was behind him.“Mate!” she said, and her eyes widened.I smiled. “Mate!”I moved towards her and wanted to kiss her, but she moved back. “You’re my mate?”“Are you disappointed?”“Me? No. I mean…you’re you, obviously. But, I’m…I mean…I’m not…you,” she said, stumbling over her words.I chuckled. I waved everyone to leave the room. Once they closed the door behind them. I looked at her, amused. “Want to try that again in a language I can understand, Neriah?”She shook her head and took a deep breath. “You

  • Luna's Prime Time Rebirth   Chapter 9: For Jemisha

Neriah POVI’m sitting in my dressing room, relaxing. The couch in here is more comfortable than the twin bed my father begrudgingly gave me. Jemisha had a queen-size bed in her room. She always has the cushiest pillows and softest blankets.I was given a bedsheet and a flat pillow. A throw blanket that didn’t even cover me completely. On cold nights, I had to decide which body part I wanted to keep the warmest, because the blankets didn’t cover me completely. There are fruits and snacks in here, and considering I left without eating, I decided to eat a banana and a protein shake that was in the mini-fridge. Another luxury I’ve never had.‘Careful, Neri. You don’t want to get too comfortable. We can’t get used to these sorts of things. Remember, we are hitting the road to look for our mate when we get voted off.’‘I know, but I hardly think a protein shake and a banana is considered indulgence.’‘Agreed. I just don’t want us to get too used to this treatment. At least not until we find
