KEIRA’S POV

“I remember him.”

The words left my mouth and the hospital room seemed to hold its breath. Magnus went completely still. His arms stayed wrapped around me, solid and warm, keeping me upright while the last pieces of the memory scattered like smoke through my mind. My heart slammed against my ribs so hard I wondered if he could feel it through his shirt. My fingers curled tighter into the fabric as if letting go would make the floor disappear beneath my feet.

KEIRA’S POV“I remember him.”The words left my mouth and the hospital room seemed to hold its breath. Magnus went completely still. His arms stayed wrapped around me, solid and warm, keeping me upright while the last pieces of the memory scattered like smoke through my mind. My heart slammed against my ribs so hard I wondered if he could feel it through his shirt. My fingers curled tighter into the fabric as if letting go would make the floor disappear beneath my feet.“I remember the thing that killed my brother,” I whispered. My voice came out hoarse and small.Magnus’s crimson eyes sharpened instantly. His hands flexed against my back. “What did you see?”I opened my mouth to answer but another wave of pain ripped through my skull like a hot blade. I gasped and pressed both palms against my temples. The hospital room vanished around me. Stone walls rose in its place. Cold, gray, and rough under my small fingers. Shadows danced across them from a flickering fire somewhere nearby.

MAGNUS’ POVThe door clicked shut behind me and the hallway lights suddenly felt too bright. I pressed one hand against the cool wall as my chest tightened with familiar burning pain. The episode I had pushed down earlier now clawed its way back up my throat. I didn’t even realize that I was bleeding from my nose until Torin pointed it out. “Your Majesty,” he called out, giving me a piece of paper towel. “You are bleeding from your nose.” I took the paper towel and dapped my nose with it. I looked at the blood smear and wondered if she had seen the bleeding earlier. Did she really see it? The fact that she might have seen the blood bothered me more than the pain I felt. Keira noticed things I spent years hiding from everyone else. She was way too smart for her status. I took a slow breath and forced my shoulders straight just as Torin handed me another paper towel. “Did she see the blood?” he asked quietly as his eyes flicked towards her room.I shook my head in confusion. “I’m no

KEIRA’S POVMagnus held me so tightly I felt his heartbeat thunder against my chest. His arms wrapped around me like steel bands while the chaos of the room slowly faded. Guards dragged Zeke away and his protests echoed down the hallway until the door clicked shut. I stood barefoot on the cold hospital floor with my hospital gown clinging to my sweat-damp skin. Exhaustion pulled at every muscle yet Magnus’s warmth anchored me in place. I breathed in his scent of pine and steel and let myself lean into him for a long moment. Then I noticed it. He was trembling, but not with the rage I expected after dealing with Zeke. His arms stayed tense around my back and his breathing came uneven and shallow. I pulled back just enough to look up at his face. His usual healthy color had drained away and left his skin unusually pale. Sweat beaded along his hairline. “Are you alright?” I asked softly. My voice still sounded rough from earlier coughing. “You don’t look good, Magnus.” He brushed the

MAGNUS’ POV I left the hospital room with my blood still boiling. Torin kept pace beside me as we moved down the brightly lit corridor. I had every intention of finding answers and Keira’s parents would provide them whether they wanted to or not. We made our first stop at the palace first. I rushed upstairs to have a change of clothes. I changed into formal black attire with the royal crest on the chest and fastened a heavy cloak around my shoulders. The fabric settled with a familiar weight. I climbed into the back of the armored SUV with Torin in the driver’s seat and we sped toward Iron Wood Pack territory. “Are you sure about this, Your Majesty?” Torin asked. “Going to Iron Wood like this could raise suspicions. What if they don’t give you what you want?” I sighed heavily. “I’m sure about this, Torin. I have to do this for her sake. Her parents should know what is wrong with her. Besides that’s not the only reason I’m going there.” He nodded as he sped the vehicle.

KEIRA’S POV I watched Magnus closely as the question left my lips. “What do you know about the Dark One?” I asked again. His entire body went rigid. The warmth in his crimson eyes vanished and left cold alertness in its place. His jaw tightened so hard a muscle jumped along the side of his face. He leaned forward with sudden intensity and gripped the edge of the hospital bed until his knuckles turned white. “You’ve got to tell me how you know that name,” he whispered. “Please, sunflower.” I took a deep breath and pushed myself higher against the pillows. My body still ached but the words from the garden burned inside me and refused to stay silent. “When I passed out I followed the voice in my head through the darkness. It led me to a glowing garden. A woman appeared with silver hair and eyes like moonlight. She called herself Aurelia the Moon Goddess. She told me the Dark One stirs after centuries of quiet. She warned me that he would come for me and that I must prepare and train

KEIRA’S POV I shifted against the hospital pillows as Magnus adjusted them behind my back with careful hands. The room still smelled of antiseptic and clean linen but his presence filled the space with familiar warmth and strength. He fluffed another pillow and tucked it under my knees then reached for the cup of water on the side table. He held it to my lips and waited while I took slow sips. The cool liquid soothed my raw throat. When I finished he set the cup down and brushed a strand of hair from my forehead with his thumb.“You need to eat something,” he said quietly. He signaled a nurse who brought in a tray of light broth and soft bread. Magnus sat on the edge of the bed and helped me hold the spoon when my hands still trembled. He watched every movement with focused crimson eyes making sure I swallowed each bite. The simple care in his actions wrapped around my chest and eased some of the lingering ache from the episode. Once I finished most of the broth he took the tray awa
