The walls were beautifully painted in white, expensive furniture arranged in place. It announced luxury in every way possible, which was actually what the owner intended.
In the middle of this opulence, a young man in his twenties stood completely still. It was the stillness of a rabbit in a snare, a silent admission that any movement on his part was powerless to change what was happening around him. “What did you just say?” William asked, disbelief clear in his voice. He stared, shocked, at the man in his mid-fifties. “Who did you say is getting married!” William shouted, his eyes bloodshot, his heart beating fast. But why shouldn't it? His family was trying to sell him out to the man everyone feared. “You, William.” The old man, sitting comfortably on the white cushion, sipped his alcohol calmly, as if what he'd just said was not a big deal. Well, not for him. For William, it was everything. How could he do this to him? Arrange a marriage for him, without his consent? His whole world crumbled like a sandcastle. “How could you do this to me!” William's eyes felt moist, his body trembling. “I have tried to live as silent as a rat. But you dared to hand me to the devil.” He couldn't hold back the tears anymore; they fell like rain droplets on his proclean face. “I'm your son too, Dad.” “Yes, you are my son. That's why you should take on this responsibility.” “Your son.” William let out a painful, hollow laugh. “You were only my dad in name. We both know you were never a father to me. It has always been Alex. Never me.” Crash. His father threw the glass cup at his feet. It shattered into tiny pieces, like William's heart, leaving bruises on his white feet. “How dare you? Speaking to me like that!” The old man's chest heaved in anger. “Dad, calm down.” Alex rushed to him, rubbing his back gently. William stared at his snake of a brother in disgust. His mere presence was like a mosquito, forever buzzing in his life. “You should be honored that you're helping the family, little brother,” Alex said, his lips curling up in a beautiful arch. What did he just say? “Helping out the family?” William couldn't help but to say. “Alex between the both of us, who is supposed to be helping out the family?” Alex's smile suddenly disappeared without a trace like it was never there. “ What do you mean by that?” William folded his arms, staring straight at Alex like daggers. “Shouldn't you be the one getting married instead? Since you've been the one receiving all the good favors in this family. Big Brother.” “Why, you whore.” Slap. The sound of that slap on his cheek echoed in the room. A red mark visible on William's cheek. His mouth tasted like metal. The painful sting made the tears burst out. “Oh, mom! You shouldn't leave any mark where it'll be visible,” Alex said with his hand on his mouth but it couldn't hide the huge grin on his face. “Don't worry," A woman standing beside William said, cleaning her hand with a handkerchief taken from her gown’s pocket. “It will be gone before the wedding.” Then threw the handkerchief on William's face. William's face was filled with tears. He looked like a puppy left in the rain. He should be used to this by now. Yet he wasn't. His heart felt like it's being stabbed. Not once, not twice. His feet couldn't carry his weight anymore. And he fell to his knees. His back slouched. Painful sobs escaped his lips. His sobs were heart wrenching. Though it sounded like music to his so-called family. Alex looked at William and smirked. “Could you stop acting so pathetic?” he said, as he walked towards William, squatting in front of him and raised his face up. “ Dad only asked you to marry Jacob Adams. The one and only business dragon. You will be living in luxury”. “That's if he lives to enjoy it.” Alex's mother settled onto the armrest of his father's chair, crossing her legs. Her vivid red nails in view. “True.” Alex grasped William's chin, turning his face left, then right, inspecting him like livestock. “But your pretty face might make him keep you longer.” He tilted William's head up, forcing eye contact. “I hear he's into useless dolls like you.” “Do you think he will satisfy him?” Alex's mother said, as she gave her husband a kiss, licking away the drops of wine on his lips. “Jacob Adams is a dominant Alpha.” “Then let's hope you survive the wedding night” Alex said, pushing William to the ground. He stood, dusting his hands even though there wasn't a tiny bit of dirt on it. “But I doubt a recessive like you would”. William clasped his hand into a fist. His nails pierced through his skin. Sharp and deep, until he felt the sting of his flesh torn “I'm not going to marry him” “You have no choice William.” His father said, pointing at him. “Why should I marry him? And not your illegitimate son, Alex!!” He screamed the words with all the strength he had. He knew it was dangerous. But it's too late to take it back. Alex sharply turned. His hands around his neck. William struggled to set himself free. “What did you just say?” Alex's voice came through gritted teeth, his face inches away from Williams. “Who did you just call illegitimate, huh?” The look in Alex's eyes was like a psychopath. William grabbed Alex's wrist, trying to pry his hand away. From the corner of his eyes he saw his father watching. Doing nothing to stop Alex. His Struggles weakened. Then Alex let go. Cough, Cough. William gasped for breath, lying flat on his back. Alex looked down at him. “Now, what did you say?” William, through ragged breaths mumbled “You're illegitimate.” “Ahhhhhh” He screamed as Alex's foot connected with his stomach. The impact pushed him inches away. The pain stole his breath, leaving him dizzy. But that didn't stop his physical abuse. It never did.Birds chirped somewhere beyond the window, faint and persistent. William's eyes fluttered open to soft morning light filtering through the curtains, and Jacob's face hovered far closer than expected, watching him with that same unreadable stillness.William startled, jerking back against the pillow. "What the..."His heartbeat stuttered sharply against his ribs. Had Jacob been watching him sleep?"Looks like you're alright now." Jacob said, voice even. His gray eyes stayed fixed on William's face, like he was still checking for something.William blinked, disoriented, the room swimming for a second before it settled."What exactly happened in the study?" Jacob's expression made it clear he wasn't taking 'nothing' for an answer again.William sat up slowly, the sheets pooling at his waist. He straightened his posture, not quite meeting Jacob's eyes. "My dad found out you gave me a black card." He paused, thumb pressing into his own knuckle. "Then he asked, no, he ordered me to give h
Music blasted through the club, bass thick enough to vibrate through his teeth. Light swept across the room in shifting colors, blue, then purple, then red, catching on glasses and skin and the haze of pheromones that hung thick enough to taste. Bodies moved against each other on the floor, drinks passed hand to hand at the bar. Alex's gaze swept the room, slow and deliberate, until it found Courtney, sitting near the edge of the floor, a drink loose in her hand. And across from her, Liam. He had been to clubs like this more times than he could count. But every other time, he had come here for something …a distraction, a body, a few hours lost in bliss. Tonight was different. Tonight he wasn't here to have fun. He was here for Liam. Alex's mouth curved into a slow smile. He started toward them, weaving through the crowd, the bass swallowing the sound of his footsteps but not the intent on his face. "Courtney." He came to a stop in front of them. Courtney tilted her head up, sur
The Stones Mansion. The moment Mr. Adams' car drove off, Vivian was already moving. Her heels struck the marble floor in short, urgent clicks that echoed down the hall. She didn't bother knocking. The study door swung open under her hand."Honey," she said quietly. "what happened?"Wilson stood with his back to her, shoulders rigid, one hand braced against the edge of his desk like it owed him money."He knows." Wilson's voice was flat.Vivian crossed the room and stopped in front of him, searching his face. "Honey, what are you saying?"He still wouldn't look at her. His jaw worked once, twice, before he finally turned, and the look in his eyes made her breath catch. It was anger unlike the kind she had ever seen on him before."William." He said the name like it cost him an arm. "He knows everything about the money."Vivian went still. What? How did that bastard know? "But how!""That night. After the wedding." Wilson's hands curled into fists at his sides. "He was outside our room.
William walked through the corridor to the dining area, but no one was there. Where did Sir Jacob go? Then he heard a maid’s voice behind him. "Mr Adams is waiting in the car." Thank goodness. He wanted to get out of here. William stepped outside. Alex and Vivian were waiting at the corner, but he didn't look at them. Jacob was already seated in the car, engine running, eyes on his phone. William got in. The door had barely shut before the car pulled away. In the side mirror, Vivian turned and hurried back inside. Alex stayed a second longer, watching the car go, then followed her. "What took you so long?" "Nothing." William said quietly. Jacob turned to look at him. His eyes lingered on him for a second too long, he didn't believe it. But before he could press, he saw it, the redness along his chin. He reached over and gripped William's face, tilting it toward the light. The temperature in the car seemed to drop a degree. A strong pheromone crashed into William befor
Wilson stepped away, took a deep breath, and regained his composure. “I don't have time for this.” He sneered. “Alex told me he saw you with a black card.” He turned toward William. “Is that true?” “Yes.” “Did Mr. Adams give it to you?” Of course he did. Did he think it had fallen from heaven? William kept his face blank, though his fingers curled against his palm, nails digging into his skin. “Yes.” Wilson held his chin, studying William the way he might study a product he had misjudged. “ I never thought Sir Jacob could give that to you.”A glint flickered in his eyes. “You aren't that useless after all.” The words landed exactly where they were meant to. William had heard a variations of them in his whole life, and his stomach still folded in on itself like it always did. But this time it didn't suffocate him. He breathed through it slowly. “I want you to give me fifty million. It wouldn't be so hard to do. If Mr Adams could give you a black card, getting Fifty million
This dinner couldn't be more enjoyable for William. Every bite tasted better than the last, not because of the food, but because of the stiff, thorny expressions worn by the three people sitting across from him. William glanced at his dad, then Alex, then Vivian, taking his time over each face like he was reading a picture book. He picked up his glass, swirled it once, and took a loud, deliberate sip just to watch Wilson's jaw tighten at the sound of it. He had never been happier to be eating beside Sir Jacob. These three would finally know what it felt like to choke down a meal in Sir Jacob's presence. May you all have terrible indigestion, he thought, and reached for another bite. Jacob watched him from the corner of his eye, the faint, goofy satisfaction William wasn't bothering to hide, the way he chewed a little too slowly, savoring it. Jacob's mouth didn't move, but something gleamed behind his eyes, there and gone, like a match struck and blown out before it caught. H
William sat still, trying to ignore the heavy presence of Jacob beside him. This was the first time he had ever seen Jacob drive. He hadn't even known Jacob could drive, the man always materialized already seated in the back of the car and chauffeured, as though the concept of a steering wheel was
The restaurant was crowded, the aroma of pork hanging heavily in the air. William's eyes darted around the place. “Will, over here.” Leo shouted. William immediately went over to where Leo was sitting and dropped down into the chair beside him. Leo pounced the moment he sat down. “Glad you ma
The curtains stayed drawn. Alex hadn't opened them in days. He told himself it was the headache, but the truth was simpler, he couldn't stand watching the world move on without him, especially not with William moving on in it. He lay half-sprawled across the bed, black eyes fixed on nothing. Da
The sunlight pierced through the curtains. William was sprawled across the bed, a smile already on his face before he was fully awake. He blinked slowly at the ceiling, then turned. The other side of the bed was empty. He touched it anyway, it was cool, long vacant, and his eyes flickered. Then l
