The General stepped forward, his expression glinting with every bit of mockery he could muster.

“I am not surprised,” he said, voice calm but cutting, “that you are still breathing. Were I the one whose sons were sent to the grave by your hand– three sons for that fact, I would have your head by now.”

The words stung me, but I let a cold, dry smile rise from my lips. “Ah,” I said, letting the syllable stretch. “And yet, here we are. I still have my head.”
