LOGINLORETTA
“Inform me if anything goes wrong” I instructed Abel's personal nurse just the driver arrived
Father gave me a small, tight smile. “Remember, you must act fast and find out his plans. That way you can be free from this marriage”
I nodded, then cast one long, lingering glance at the home I've lived in for twenty-three years of my life. The white walls, our little garden, the window I always looked out each morning
My heart bled to leave
“Time to go,” the driver said politely, throwing the last of my bag in the car trunk. My exhaled was short
My feet felt strangely heavy when I stepped toward the car, he pulled out of the driveway, and in a few minutes, the distance ate away my home, leaving only a memory of it behind
~
The drive to Elion's apartment was too quick. With every mile covered, reality dawned on me with frightening clarity.
I had signed a marriage contract with Elion Fitzpatrick, the same man I stood in court and lied against to save my father after he had angered Elion
I was stepping into my own personal nightmare, paying for sins I was forced to commit
My hands wrapped around my body, trying to provide me some warmth but all I felt was chilling cold.
When the driver pulled into an estate, I could tell which was Elion's house from three blocks away. It was a huge building of dark glass that reflected Seattle's gray sky. No warmth, just sharpness, cold luxury
Like him
The driver came to a stop at the entrance and killed the engine, I looked up at the magnificent penthouse through the window, the house seemed to stare back at me.
A cold weight settled in the pit of my stomach.
Find his secret. Nine months. Be free.
I could either use this fake marriage as an opportunity to know his grand plans and be free of him, or I could spend the rest of my life with a man who despises me and wants to see me suffer
I made my choice
“Do you have the access code?” I asked the driver when I reached the front double doors
He set my bag down by my side and looked at me in surprise. “No I don't. Mr. Fitzpatrick didn't provide one miss”
My fingers trembled against my thigh. “How then am I supposed to get inside?’
The driver had no answer for that. He gave me a small, apologetic nod, got back in the car, and drove away.
I stood on the pavement in front of Elion's building with four suitcases, a burner phone in one, and no access code to his house,
Thunder struck in the sky
“Just when I thought the day couldn't get any worse” I murmured
Luckily, there was a small waiting area at the side of the entrance, a fine bench, and a low table. I pulled my bags there and sat down, then I tried calling Elion
His cell number was provided in the contract. I called, once, twice, thrice....five times but he didn't pick up.
The headache blooming behind my eyes turned into a full-blown migraine. Since he wasn't picking up calls, I decided to text him
‘It's Loretta. I'm at your house but I don't have the access code’
No response.
I was tempted to order an Uber to take me home, but I know if I do so, I'll never have the courage to come back here
So I had only one option – wait for Elion to return from work

His Porsche pulled into the driveway at ten forty-seven pm. It's been hours since I was waiting outside in the cold
The building security guard had checked on me thrice, he too had tried reaching his Boss but to no avail.
When Elion stepped out from his car, clad in all black, I felt my breath hitch, not necessarily because of the cold.
He moved with a lethal grace anyone his size should not possess, his footsteps on the floor were silent and his face... that face of his was as blank as a slate
His coal-black eyes found mine, they were too dark, too void, I couldn't look for long.
I thought he would approach me in the waiting area, instead, he moved towards the front double doors and keyed in a code
The first wave of anger since...since ever hit me like a mallet. Elion had left me waiting for almost ten hours in this rainy weather and didn't have the courtesy to even acknowledge my presence
From the corner of my eye, I saw the security guard take some of my bags. “Miss” he called gently, drawing my attention away from the open doors to him. “We should go in now” he urged
I was tempted to ask if his Boss was this way to everyone– unwelcoming and ice cold, but I held my tongue
The guard led us through the foyer and towards the elevator. The penthouse was beautiful. While the outside was made of dark glass that made it ominous, the inside was...warmer. Enormous, immaculate. Wood, steel, floor to ceiling windows that made Seattle look like a watercolor painting.
Elion materialized by my side, making my heart skip a beat. He ignored me and gave some instructions to the guard who rolled by bags down a hallway
“Your room is that way” He gestured to where the guard was going, eyes glued to his phone as his fingers flew over the keypad
The wave of anger rose in my blood again. I stared at him, my nose flaring “You could have given me the access code yesterday” I began, stepping closer to him “But you didn't, you wanted me to wait”
His fingers paused, and he slid his phone into his pocket.
When his head swiveled my way, I had to take a step back, to protect myself from the intensity of his stare
It was Elion who stalked towards me now, like an apex predator prowling towards its prey. His eyes weren't helping at all, they were too black, a reflection of his heart that it felt as if I were drowning in an abyss
My heart beat accelerated, my skin prickled with awareness.
Elion paused, the side of his lips tilting into a wicked smirk “And here I thought you didn't have a mind of your own”
I didn't like that statement, I also didn't like the way my body reacted to the dark timber of his voice, the way it settled deep in some unexplored part of my stomach
“Breaking you will be more fun to watch this way” he added, and the smirk disappeared, replaced by something cruel, something hot enough to burn me to cinders if I continued standing here
I crinkled my nose at him and walked away, willing myself not to run even when I felt the heat of his stare on my back.
He can try to break me, but he won't succeed
Because you can't break something that's already shattered
LORETTA “Shit” Elion’s reaction was instant.Immediately, the light beamed in on us, and he pulled me tighter against his chest, one large hand flying up to shield my face from the light, pressing it into the crook of his neck. He pressed me against the wall too, his broad body completely shielding mine as he yanked the hem of my soaked dress down over my thighs. My heart hammered without restraint, my adrenaline was high, Elion's breath was hot and uneven against my ear. I tried to pull back but he held me firmer, protecting me. “Stay still,” he whispered, voice low and rough. “Don’t make a sound.”I could hear the sound of the car drive farther down the street, becoming more distant, my eyes squeezed shut as my body trembled around him. The risk that we could be caught in a compromising position somehow made everything more intense. “Do you think whoever was driving that car saw us?” I asked quietly, my voice almost muffled I couldn't see his face, but I could tell his jaw was
LORETTA It wasn't a sniffIt was more. Elion brought my ruined panties to his nose and drew in a long, unhurried breath, like a man inhaling the scent of something sacred. “What are you doing?” It was a silly question to ask, being that I could see what exactly he was doing but I was running low on coherent thought and coherent sentencesHis eyes fluttered half-closed. “Memorizing you, baby” The deep growl of his voice and the raw hunger in his face made my core clench hardA small whimper escaped me. Greedily, I grounded my body against him, asking... begging “Fuck, Rea,” he hissed out, voice as rough as gravel. “You smell so much better than I imagined. I need more, fuck I need more of you”Heat flooded my cheeks, but I didn’t look away. I couldn’t. Elion had imagined this before? OhOhhhWith his dark hungry eyes fixed on mine, he tucked the torn lace into the back pocket of his suit trousers, His free hand slid up my thigh, pushing the soaked fabric of my dress higher until co
LORETTA The first taste of Elion's mouth was devastating in every sense of the wordThe second made me forget why I was even angry to begin with, and by the third....I didn't know my own nameThe kiss wasn't gentle, it wasn't even fair, not with the knowing way his lips and tongue captured mine prisoner, taking absolute control over meThe rain continued to fall around us, heavier now. The sky was dark, the city kept moving, but when Elion kissed me, nothing else excited me except his mouth on mineHe tasted of everything I've ever yearned for, of passion, and ecstacy and bliss and recklessness and so much more than I could fully process His mouth was hard against mine, his hands framing my jaw, a downpour of rain running between us, I raised a hand to clutch his shirt, to push him away but instead, I realized that I was only pulling him closer to my body so that my tender breasts flattened against his hard chestAnd so help me God, I could not stop. If a gun was pointed to my head
LORETTA He crossed the distance between us with long, furious strides that made the world narrow down to himThe traffic disappeared, the people on the sidewalk disappeared, even the ache in my heart disappeared Even though Elion was striding towards me with a dead look in his eyes, the first thing I felt — actually felt was relief He came. For one reckless, almost humiliating second of it all, I wanted to break into a run and wrap my hands around him, to let his warm hands and scent comfort me“Elion” my breath caught when he reached me and grabbed me by the shoulder, his large hands closing around my body hard but not hard enough to hurtI could see the dark energy rolling over him in waves, it should have scared me and it did, but...those coal dark eyes swept over me frantically, going over my face, my neck, my arms, down and back up againIt took me a second to understand what Elion was doing, and when I did realize that he was checking to see if I was okay, my heart melted in
LORRETA The taxi lurched forward, pulling into the road before I could hurl out a very colourful insult towards HeathHe leaned back against the seat, his notes crinkling as he glanced around the taxi. “You could have ...”“Did you seriously just pull the 'I'm the man, so I decide' card?” My voice came out sharper than I have ever used with him, I stared at this stranger who was seated beside me with new eyesHeath sighed softly, “Look, I didn't mean to...”“How dare you come at me with that sexist crap?" I snapped, not caring about what else he wanted, and planned on saying I was done hearing him out. I was D O N E. Genuine remorse crossed over his face, he reached a hand to touch me but I swatted it so fast and hard that Heath flinched, shifting backwards and away from me. “Lo, what's wrong with you?”Shock and agitation rippled through me “What's wrong with me? You dare ask me that question after this foolishness you just pulled?” My hands shook, not from fear this time but fr
LORETTA FIVE MINUTES EARLIER Heath's hand was extended out, hovering between us in a pregnant silence, hope lit up in his eyes “Come with me” he said again, as if he repeated it enough times, I might agree to I looked at his hand, then at his face, the boyish face I once admired years ago, and my heart softened for him “Heath…” I started gently, choosing my words with care. “I appreciate that you're looking out for me. I really do.” His eyes brightened even more, a slow smile spreading across his face. “So you'll come with me then.” It wasn't a question. “There's this new Michelin-star restaurant close to my place. We could check it out if you're up for a date.” His gaze drifted toward Rosa's, his nose wrinkling in disapproval. “It's a lot better than... whatever this is.” A sad smile settled on my lips. In some ways, Heath wasn't a bad person. He could be thoughtful, caring, and even incredibly kind to the people he considers his friends, but his biggest flaw had alw
LORETTA There was only one possible explanation for that question: Elion had amnesia. That had to be it, because there was absolutely no way possible that this man who had nearly kissed me in the middle of a public park three days ago suddenly didn't remember any of it There's no way he's sitting
LORETTAI wished I were one of those women who could raise their chin high and not deflect.I wished I could say I wasn't one to run and hide but that would be the biggest lie of the year. That is exactly the kind of person I am. One who runs and hides from her problems rather than facing them head
LORETTAThe animalistic growl that came out of Elion should have scared me.It should have made me take off for the hills and never look backIt should have reminded me exactly who this man was beneath his thousand-dollar suits and cold expression - the Devil who would ruin me whether I gave him th
ELION The shift in the air happened instantly. Years of instinct sharpened by prison, boardrooms, and enemies who smiled before they stabbed me in the back had taught me to notice things most people missed. A stare that lingered too long, an expression that hid more than it revealed, a moveme
