INICIAR SESIÓNMorning jumped on me suddenly. The sun kissed my eyes the moment I pinched them open; I realized I had fallen asleep in my dressing chair, still wrapped in my towel.
I jerked awake and rushed to the bathroom to wash my face. Tyler was already up when I returned.
"What happened to sleeping in the bed with me last night? Got a problem with sharing your skin with me?" Tyler sipped his coffee slowly while standing behind the kitchen counter.
I was halfway down the stairs when I caught his eyes on me. He froze me with that question before I could even reach the bottom.
I could see trouble in his gaze.
"No, I just fell asleep in the chair. I guess I was just tired. I’m sorry."
"Hmm."
He was shirtless, his muscles fully visible. I could easily trace the veins on both his hands. His Adam’s apple traveled up and down as he swallowed his coffee bit by bit.
If I hadn’t known who he really was, he would be someone easily crushed on.
He was sexy as hell. However, he had no soul.
I knew he had suspected my actions since yesterday, but he didn't know exactly what I was hiding.
"I’m going out in a few minutes; don’t go anywhere unless I tell you to. Don’t make me regret sparing your father’s life three years ago."
"Okay, but can I go see the doctor today? I don’t feel so good."
He moved away from the counter slowly until he reached the spot where I stood.
My head was bent, afraid to look him in the face. He tucked my hair behind my ears and forced my head up to look at him.
"You have been acting funny, and I don’t know why. I hope it’s just me over thinking. Yes, you can go see the doctor, but be back before noon. When I call the house, I want you to pick up to make sure you’re home. Got it?"
"Y-yes."
At that moment, I could see lust already clouding his eyes. He pulled me close to his chest and planted a kiss on my lips.
He gripped me and stripped away my gown.
He owned me; even when I didn't feel like having sex, he always had his way.
I didn't get to choose what I wanted in my life.
He bent me over the counter and seized my hair from behind.
Before I could say a word, he forced himself into me. I gave a painful, involuntary grunt at the first thrust.
He held my waist with his other hand and stroked so hard I felt like my body would break.
The grunts turned into moans, then into screams. He moved with a forceful, repetitive violence.
In less than five minutes, he was done. He groaned deeply as he finished. He withdrew and walked away from me as if he didn't even know who I was.
I was just his toy. Nothing else.
I sat on the kitchen floor, resting my back against the counter with my arms wrapped around my legs. My knees became a resting place for my face.
My eyes were teary and my hair looked as if I had survived a stampede.
I was still on the floor, sobbing silently, when I heard his footsteps coming back down the stairs; he was dressed and ready to go.
"Be back before noon," he instructed, and quickly left through the front door.
I was left behind in the big house, which felt quieter than a graveyard. At least people visit graves; no one came here.
I sluggishly picked myself up and climbed the stairs to wash and get ready to see the "doctor."
It was already 8:00 AM.
I ran a quick shower. I had no time to dwell on my already miserable life; I forced my mind to stay focused only on the way forward.
I put on a dress that exposed my shoulders, dried my hair, and brushed it back for a simple look. I grabbed my dark shades and my purse.
I had no time for a skincare routine, but I made sure to use deodorant; I could not afford not to.

"Hi Nathan. Please, could you help me tell Tyler that I came to see you earlier today? Obviously I didn't, but cover for me, please?"
I called Nathan, our doctor, as soon as I started driving. Nathan had been extremely loyal to Tyler until we became friends; he became someone I could talk to, someone who offered pity, unlike my husband.
"Okay, I’ve got you. Just stay safe wherever you’re going and stay out of trouble."
"I will, Nathan. Thanks!" My voice rang out with excitement as the call ended.
Jane’s house was just a few kilometers away. I had saved her ass countless times at the bar where we worked three years ago.
I hoped she would return the favor now that I needed it; especially with the big plan brewing in my mind.
Tyler must never find out.
I sped off again after the light turned green.
Tyler's POV"Boss, I think we got a lead...""Talk, Williams."I lifted my stony face toward Williams. He was always fond of delivering information in the most cinematic way possible."One of the men... the digital researchers found a lead at one of the record labels in California. They searched all over New York and Phoenix, just as you instructed, but there was no facial resemblance to Evans. So, according to them, they went beyond their original assignment and started looking into other states. There was a match, but not under the name we know her by. She was registered as Claire Simon.""So you're saying this girl is my girl, but with a different name on the registry?""Uhm... Boss, not one hundred percent, but they're confident.""Williams, when I ask a goddamn question that deserves a yes or no, you give me a goddamn yes or no!"My voice echoed across the living room.I caught Williams flinch for a brief second, but he quickly steadied himself."Y-Yes, Boss. Yes, she's your girl
Without my knowledge, Drake drove me to his house. I hardly cared because I was absent-minded, my thoughts spinning with the possibility that Tyler might have discovered my whereabouts.I knew how dangerous he was. What if he hurt Jane or her father? It was almost 5:00 p.m., the time I was supposed to meet Mr. Smith about my original song, but it didn't matter anymore. How could I focus on my music when Tyler was closing in on me?"Hey."I slowly raised my eyelids. Drake had already opened the car door for me. He stretched out his hand, silently asking me to take it.I trusted him.I placed my hand in his, and he gently helped me out of the car. I was still wearing his jacket. The evening had grown chilly when we left the restaurant, so he had wrapped it around my shoulders before we got into the car."I've got you," he murmured softly as he caught me in his arms and guided me toward the house."Your house, huh?""Well, you looked like a frightened little puppy. I figured you'd feel s
Tyler’s POVThe cigarette burned slowly between my fingers as I stood in front of the floor-to-ceiling windows overlooking the city.Five weeks.Five damn weeks. And Evans had disappeared without leaving a single trace behind. The glowing ember reflected against the glass as I took another drag.Somewhere out there she was hiding, probably convincing herself she had won.Probably sleeping peacefully.Probably believing she was finally free.A bitter smile spread across my face.Nobody walked away from me.Nobody.Behind me, a chair scraped against the floor.Perry shifted uncomfortably.I glanced over my shoulder. The old man sat exactly where my men had left him.Tired and hungry. Yet somehow still stubborn.“You look terrible.”Perry ignored me.I expected nothing less. The man had spent weeks refusing to cooperate despite knowing how easily this could end.All he had to do was tell me where his daughter was.Simple.Instead, he chose suffering. Anyway, somehow I feel he doesn’t tr
In less than twenty minutes, Drake knocked on the front door, and I felt the urgent need to check myself in the mirror for what had to be the hundredth time.I stared at my reflection, smoothing down the fabric of my dress as nervous butterflies danced wildly in my stomach. Jane would probably laugh at me if she saw how ridiculous I was acting. It wasn’t as though I was going on my first date.At least, not technically. But this felt different.Everything about Drake felt different. For the first time in a very long time, I found myself looking forward to something. Looking forward to someone. The knock came again.“Coming!” I called out.I took a deep breath and headed for the door. The moment I opened it, my heart skipped a beat.Drake stood there with one hand tucked into the pocket of his dark trousers. His eyes lit up the second they landed on me, and a slow smile spread across his face. For a few seconds, neither of us spoke. His gaze travelled over me with an intensity that m
“I see someone did not ruin her relationship before it even started.”Jane blurted out at first sight of me as I walked through the door.I chuckled and ended up hugging Jane so dearly. It was as though I had needed that hug for a lifetime now.Jane didn’t hesitate to hug me back. It was always a pleasure for her to give me comfort.“It’s okay, Evans. I got you, darling.”The warmth in her voice instantly settled something restless inside me.“I see our Prince Charming brought you home. You could have invited him in.”“Drake? Into our house? No, thank you.”I laughed, and she giggled beside me as we took the stairs to our room. The thought of Drake alone was enough to make my cheeks warm.I couldn’t stop thinking about him.Actually, I wasn’t going to stop thinking about him. But, not tonight and definitely not after the way he had looked at me.Not after the way he always managed to make me feel safe.We got into the room, and I immediately sat on the bed while Jane dropped beside me
The car was not yet on the highway when Drake’s hand caressed my laps like he missed that feeling for ages. His hand literally slipped from the steering wheel down to my bare laps that were made visible because of the shorts I wore that day.In an SUV truck like his, with perfectly tinted glass, I was confident in anything that might go down.He moved my jaw without my notice and sucked my lips into his mouth. His hands ripped into my blouse and found a way to pull it open.“Do you normally do it?”I asked all of a sudden in the middle of the make out.“Do what?” he asked, trying to catch his breath and licking every part of me.“Put money in the purse of any girl you bring home.”He stopped after taking a last kiss from my lips.He paused and gazed deeply into my eyes.“No, I don’t bring girls home. And yes, I’ve slept with many girls in my life, but I don’t bring them home, Evans.”“Why did you do it then?”“Put money in your bag? Evans, I care about you. Aside from the breakfast, th
"I’m running away."Jane looked lost.It was as though the world were being created all over again right before her eyes."Let me get you a chilled glass of orange juice so you can cool your head. Then you can explain exactly what you just said, Evans," she said sarcastically.That was typical Jane;
"I-it’s my dad… he called to check in."My breath became unsteady and noisy. My eyes were begging God on my behalf, silent because they were too teary and pitiful to speak.Tyler bent over, picked up my phone, and scrolled through it."Evans, do you have something to say to me? Because I think now i
"Say my name!" Tyler’s voice boomed like thunder through the duplex hallway, echoing down the stairs. His large, powerful palm was wrapped around my neck; it felt as though he might twist it until I died if I tried anything stupid. The bed squeaked loudly, and the sound of his groans filled the
It was already 1:00 am. The entire house was hollow with silence; one could hear the tiniest sound in the world.I lay on the couch with my head up and my elbow resting on my forehead. I had been pacing everywhere with my phone, waiting for another call from the police, or perhaps from Evans, or eve
