When a letter inviting Rovak to play for the Delta Eagles, he wasn't excited. Rather it reminded him of what he couldn't have.

He hid the letter in his room, knowing River, he would snoop around in his room to cause mischief.

"Rovak! We are late" Alpha Perez called.

"I am coming father" he called back.

On a second thought, he put the letter into his bag.

"Let's go boys, the last I want is to be late and Alpha Vergara making a big deal about it"

Rovak sighed, the rivalry between his father and Alpha Vergara was honestly so annoying at this point.

They left the house and Rovak headed to the car.

"What are you doing?" Alpha Perez asked.

"Going to the car so we can drive to the meeting."

"Its in the next pack Rovak, barely thirty minutes away. We will run there. We are werewolves not those puny humans" Alpha Perez replied.

"Unless you are too weak to do so?" River asked.

"let's go father" Rovak replied his father ignoring River who was scowling beside their father.

He undressed and kept his clothes in the bag and shifted into his wolf form. His bones cracking and contorting. Fur bursting out of his skin.

Soon in his place, stood a pure black wolf that looked majestic in every form.

His father and brother had also shifted as well.

A black wolf which looked nearly identical to Rovak and a white wolf stood there. One of River's biggest greviances was that Rovak's wolf looked identical to their father.

They ran fast among the forest trail. Rovak stayed behind them, even though he could outrun them. The first time, he had showed he was faster. He had been beaten by River while his father turned a blind eye. A fourteen year old Rovak had quickly learnt to dim his light a little.

A short distance from the pack, they changed back to their human form and quickly dressed up.

Rovak followes his father and brother into the pack. They were at Deep Moon pack, Alpha Vergara's pack. The regional werewolf meeting was being held there.

"Hey, Alpha Perez from Crescent moon pack is here" Alpha Vergara announced as they entered the room.

Alpha Perez muttered something under his breath as they sat down. Rovak was pretty sure it was a curse.

He sat down behind his brother and father.

He felt eyes on him, he looked up to see Tanner staring at him.

What did the preppy boy want now.

He droned out through the meeting. He was so happy, he wasn't the eldest son, he couldn't imagine sitting through these boring meetings.

"So Alpha Vergara, what is going on with Tanner?" an alpha asked.

Rovak watched as Alpha Vergara smiled proudly and held Tanner's shoulders.

"well my star hockey boy was scouted by the Edo Sparrows. I couldn't be prouder. He is going to be a professional hockey player for the best team in the state" he said proudly.

"But isn't he going to be the next Alpha. Won't this interfere with his duties?"

Alpha Vergara shrugged. "I am still alive and am not dying soon. Tanner can live his life for now. Plus my son is perfect and I believe he can do both things"

Rovak watched bitterly. Of course the preppy boy had a supportive father who supported his dreams.

"What about you Alpha Perez, your son plays hockey too." the Alpha turned to ask Alpha Perez.

"Yes, Rovak plays hockey. As a matter of fact, his team won against Vergara's son team" Alpha Perez bragged.

Rovak rolled his eyes. His father was such a braggart.

"and was he scouted too? If he was so good." Alpha Vergara asked with a provoking smile.

Alpha Perez's smile dried up. Rovak looked up to see Tanner looking at him with a pitying smile.

One thing he wouldn't tolerate was this preppy boy pitying him.

He cleared his throat,"actually, I was scouted by a team as well. The Delta Eagles"

Alpha Perez's eyes lit up. "You did? Why didn't you say anything?" he asked.

"I wanted to tell you later. Plus, I am still thinking if I am going to accept the offer"

"Why wouldn't you accept the offer son? the Eagles are a very good team" Alpha Vergara asked.

Rovak glanced at his father. "I am thinking of staying to help father in the pack"

Alpha Perez came closer to him and slapped his shoulder. "nonsense son, you are going to accept the offer."

"i am?"

"Yes son, you are going to be a hockey player"

"But father, you said..." River tried to interrupt.

"shut up" Alpha Perez whispered.

Rovak knew exactly why his father had changed his mind. He couldn't stand Alpha Vergara having something he didn't. Their rivalry had made him approve Rovak continuing his career.

"I look forward to seeing you two face off in games" Alpha Vergara said.

"and Rovak is going to defeat your son just like he did in their last game" his father replied.

"heh...we will see"

"Indeed we will aee" Alpha Perez replied looking at Rovak.

Rovak knew that was his father's silent threat. He had better make sure he defeated Tanner every time they met.

....

Rovak stood in a quiet corner, taking a swig of Wolfgang.

"You shouldn't be drinking that" Tanner appeared.

"Do you always come to where you aren't invited to give unsolicited advise"

"So I guess I will be seeing you at a game soon Perez"

"Yes and don't forget to bare your neck Vergara"

Tanner rolled his eyes. "You can be such an asshole"

"Good you know so when I defeat you, you don't go crying to Daddy"

"goddess, I will enjoy beating you" Tanner muttered.

"In your dreams Vergara" Rovak replied and walked off.

...Tanner came downstairs to see his parents."There he is" Luna Eve said kindly."Hey Kiddo! Are you okay?" Alpha Vergara asked."Yes father, I am really sorry for how I spoke to you earlier. I was just feeling a bit stressed out"Alpha Vergara clapped his shoulder. "You little brat! I am not mad at you at all. When was the last time you shifted?""It's been quite long" Tanner replied."When we get back, let's go on a little run. Hmm!"Tanner nodded."my son, I am so proud of you. That photo of you at the charity event with those celebrities, I had it framed" Luna Eve bragged, she pulled him to the wall to show him."There, do you see that? We are so proud of you" she told him."You really had it framed mom?" he asked with a smile."this is the second version" she replied."What was the first version?" Tanner asked curiously."Perez's kid was in it. I refuse to have anything related to him in my home" Alpha Vergara told him.Tanner looked at him and gulped, he wondered how his fathe

The star members of the hockey teams were invited to a charity event. This was the first time Tanner was going to be seeing Rovak since that night. He wiped his sweaty hands on his trousers. What would talking to him be like? Would he act like nothing had happened."So how have you been Tanner?" Frank asked."Everything has been chill""What about Rovak, how is he?" Frank asked.Tanner choked on his drink. "hey are you okay?" Frank asked in concern."Yes yes." Tanner replied, hoping he sounded okay."By the way, why were you asking me about Rovak?" Tanner asked."Because you two are always whispering at games, your fathers are close. You two probably saw each other a lot growing up"Tanner scoffed, "Our father being friends is so funny. I am pretty sure my father would beat up anyone who suggested that""Oh speak of the devil there he is" Frank spoke up.Tanner looked up to see Rovak walk in. His mouth went dry."Rovak" Frank called him over.Tanner watched as Rovak walked over. He cl

Tanner sat nervously opposite his parents as they had dinner. But he couldn't even hear a word they were saying. All that ran through his mind was what had happened earlier in the shower. Usually Rovak looked unapproachable but back then in the shower, his face had looked so entrancing. Oh goddess what was wrong with him? "Tan sweetie, are you okay?" Luna Eve asked her son. "I am fine mom." She reached out to hold his hand. "I am so proud of you for winning that award last night" "Yes, I have something to brag about to Perez the next time I see him" "Stop that honey. This win is for our son. Not your stupid rivalry with Alpha Perez" She looked at her son again, "sweetie, with your award, companies will reach out to you for sponsorships. We have to be prepared for business. But don't worry, I will help you" "Thanks mom" Tanner replied. He idly wondered if Rovak had anyone to help him with this stuff. "That Perez's kid is just like his father. You have to keep up the pace son

, Rovak didn't know what to feel as he heard the announcement. Tanner Vergara for Rookie of the year award. He felt envy, hot envy. Why did he have to have everything. Perfect family and now an award. He dreaded to think what his father would say when he discovered he didn't win the award. After the paparazzi were hounding them for interviews."So Rovak, how do you feel about losing the rookie of the year award?" a journalist asked him.Rovak resisted the urge to roll his eyes. These journalists were just like feral werewolves, waiting for him to make a slip so they could devour him.He plastered a practiced smile on his face,"Vergara has played a good game this year and he deserves this award""What about you, don't you think you deserved it too?" the journalist asked."Well, in the spirit of the game, it's all about the comradeship between players. So I am happy for him" Rovak rattled off a whole piece of sentimental nonsense and hoped it sounded okay. "Thank you" He escaped. He

The next couple of weeks went by in a blur for Rovak. He accepted the offer, he met with the team officials. He signed the contract and was assigned to a dorm with the other rookies.Rovak was happy. He was going to be away from River and his father."Don't be giddy yet, they will realize you are a pathetic excuse and send you back here" River told him.Rovak bit his tongue, he was so close to freedom, he wouldn't risk it by talking back to River. He just had to have patience. He went down to meet his father before making his way out of the pack."This isn't a permanent thing, do you understand?" Alpha Perez asked."Yes father""And make sure you defeat that Vergara's brat""I will do so father." he replied softly.....It was the first game of the season. Rovak nervously tapped his leg in the locker room.He could barely hear a word the coach was saying. He was playing against the Edo Sparrows. If he didn't win this game, his father could still pull him out of the team. He wasn't leg
