The beginning
Rovak took a deep breath as he drank from the flask in his hand. He had played games before but this particular game filled him with trepidation. This was not the high-school games, he used to play. This was the game that would decide his future. Would he go back to his pack and live a boring life as the second son of an Alpha or would he have something different. He remembered his father's words earlier today. "I really don't care much for this hockey of yours. You could be in the pack doing better things" Alpha Perez had said. River sneered. "No, he would rather play make believe with those humans and deceive himself that he belongs with them" He had wisely kept quiet. It wasn't worth it to argue with River. "Just make sure you beat that Vergara kid" his father had said before leaving the house. Rovak sighed, his father and brother couldn't even be bothered to attend his games. He took another drink from the flask. "You shouldn't be drinking that" a low voice said. Rovak turned to see another boy close to him. He was wearing the uniform from the preppy school, he was supposed to play against today. "And what am I drinking?" Rovak asked with an arch of his eyebrows. "Wolfgang. It won't show on the humans alcohol tests but you shouldn't be taking that before games." Tanner replied. Rovak examined the newcomer from head to toe. He looked vaguely familiar. "I am Tanner Vergara" The boy said eagerly stretching his hand out for an handshake. Rovak didn't take his hand. "So you are Alpha Vergara's kid. Last I saw you, you were a short little thing in your preppy shirts" Tanner withdrew his hand. "And you looked like a scrappy little feral child" he snapped back. "Ooh little werewolf has claws" Rovak whistled. "I have to go, my parents will be wondering where I am" Tanner replied. "Your parents come to these things?" "Yes, they attend all my games. Doesn't Alpha Perez attend your games?" Tanner asked. Rovak clenched his jaw. "My father has way more importance things to do than to attend high school games" "Do you think you will be drafted to join a team?" Tanner suddenly asked. "I don't care. I just want to win your preppy ass" Rovak smirked. "In your dreams Perez" "want to bet on it?" Rovak asked. "sure, what are we betting on?" Tanner asked, an interested gleam in his eyes. "The loser bares his neck to the winner during the next game they meet" In the werewolf world, baring your neck meant submission. No self respecting werewolf would take such a deal. "Deal" Tanner replied, shocking Rovak. "Deal" Rovak replied, stretching forth his hand. The two shook on it. "See you later Perez" Tanner turned to leave. "Later Vergara" Rovak replied. ... The hockey game was intense, the crowd watched in bated breath, wondering which team would win. Everyone's focus was drawn to only two players. Rovak Perez and Tanner Vergara. They were fierce, attacking each other with fierce strength. Their pucks clashed against each other occasionally. Eventually the game came to an end. Rovak's team had won. Rovak smiled in relief. He had played a good game which would attract scouts and also beaten Tanner. As they shook hands before leaving. He leaned in to whisper. "don't forget our next game, you have to bare your neck" Tanner rolled his eyes. "what makes you certain we will ever play against each other again?" Rovak shrugged, "Just a little feeling" ... "So did you beat Vergara's kid?" Alpha Perez asked as soon as Rovak walked in. "Yes, my team won" He replied. "Good" Alpha Perez replied. That was all, no further comment about it. Neither did he show concern about his game. Rovak was used to it though. "That was your last game right?" "Yes father" he replied. "So you are done with that annoying human game, right?" "Father, I could get scouted into a team. And play professionally." Alpha Perez looked at him disdainfully. "And of what use would that be to the pack? You are done with hockey, understood?" "But father..." Rovak attempted to protest. His father slapped him. "You don't talk while I am talking. And we are done with this conversation. Do you understand me?" "Yes father" Rovak replied quietly and went to his room. "If it's not the star hockey player" River mocked as he went to his room. Rovak ignored him, River was an annoying snitch of an elder brother who was always looking for ways to be their father's favorite. "Are you ignoring me?" River asked. He slammed Rovak against the wall. "listen to me you little brat. Your days of being the star hockey player is done. From now on, you are going to be the has been washed up hockey player who peaked in high school and will spend the rest of your life as a miserable pathetic pack guard" River whispered. Rovak kept quiet. He could absolutely beat up River, he could. But then his father would get involved. So he simply kept quiet. "You are pathetic" River sneered and released me. Rovak entered his room, the moment he did, he went in a frenzy and threw things to the ground. His hockey medals, his championship cups. He threw them all. His father's words echoed in his ears. He would never play hockey again. Hockey was his only escape from his horrible home. And now he couldn't even have that. He would never leave this pack. He would die here."Wow! Dinner tastes much better" Tanner commented as he ate the food."Yeah, I wonder what changed today" Rovak replied."Maybe it's because it's our last night" Tanner suggested."And maybe it's because I came to save you boys from horrible meals" a female voice added. They looked up to see Luna Joan, standing by their table."Greetings Luna" they said together."Hello boys, may I join you?" she asked."Yes ma'am, please join us" Tanner said with a smile.Luna Joan sat with them. "How are you doing boys?" she asked."Fine ma'am" Rovak and Tanner replied.Rovak looked over at Joe curiously, "Won't Joe be angry that you are sitting with us instead of him?" he asked Luna Joan.Luna Joan chuckled, "Oh please, Joe told me to pretend we don't know each other here, he doesn't want to be called a mummy's boy"Rovak and Tanner laughed."Well we hope our company is enjoyable then" Rovak replied."It is dear" Luna Joan said with a smile. She reached out and removed a piece of grass from his hai
Flashback...Talon found Ryder at the back of a building, he was drinking from a small flask."What are you drinking?" Talon asked."Wolfgang" Ryder replied."When did you start drinking Wolfgang? You always lecture me on the effects" Talon questioned."Tal, I am too tired to engage with you" Ryder told him, he tried to leave but Talon pulled him back and pinned him against the wall."why are you avoiding me?" Talon asked."I am not avoiding you" Ryder replied."Ry, since we kissed in the forest, you have been avoiding me, why?" Tanner asked."Didn't we say we would stop this?" Ryder asked, leaning his head against the wall."No, there was no 'we'. You said we should stop this, I didn't agree to anything""Tal...""Don't you like me?" Talon murmured.Ryder shook his head a little, he raised his hand, clenched and unclenched it several times and then he placed it on the back of Talon's hair."I like you a lot" Ryder replied."Are you not attracted to me?"Ryder groaned, he ran his han
"Hmmm, first in the blindfold, your fathers also took first" Alpha Jonathan murmured as he looked at Rovak and Tanner."We are just trying to follow in our father's example" Tanner replied."Hmmm" Alpha Jonathan murmured.Rovak stepped forward, "My father says I am to listen to you, because you are a perfect example of what an Alpha should be"Alpha Jonathan looked at him in surprise, "Ryder said that?""Yes he did, he said so when he called me earlier.""But he didn't say anything like that when we spoke" Alpha Jonathan said suspiciously. "You know how my father is, he won't say it to you directly" Rovak replied.Alpha Jonathan smiled a little, the first smile he had given them since they arrived. "Well Ryder has always been the reasonable one, unlike Talon. I wanted to befriend him back then but he only cared about his 'soul brother'.""Well, I guess with how things are now, he regrets not befriending you back then" Rovak continued. "Ah! Who would have thought the 'soul brothers'
Rovak and Tanner went back to their room after dinner. They stood looking at the single beds. "I think we should join the beds together" Tanner suggested.Rovak looked at him with a smirk, "You are so obsessed with me"Tanner shrugged, "True, I am obsessed with you, I want to spend the nights cuddling with you. I don't think we have ever had time to do that" he replied.Rovak melted, "Awwn my baby" he hugged Tanner.Tanner held his waist and leaned down to kiss him.Rovak's phone rang, he reluctantly left the kiss and checked his phone, it was his father. He sighed and picked up the call. Tanner went back to joining the two beds together."Hello father" he said as he picked up the call."How are you doing son? Is everything okay there?" Alpha Perez asked.Rovak was surprised, when did his father start caring about his well being."I am fine father" Rovak replied."Is Alpha Jonathan still an asshole?" Alpha Perez asked."Well...." Rovak trailed off."He is annoying, believe me, his fat
Flashback....Fire Moon Pack Training camp... "Come on, we will be late for practice" Ryder Perez urged Talon Vergara. "Ryder, we don't have to be so early, let's chill" Talon replied."Talon, you know Alpha Jon already has it out for you. Let's not give him more ammunition"Talon scoffed, "Yeah right, Alpha Jon has it out for anyone who isn't as perfect as Jonathan. I didn't even want to come to this thing. Everyone already thinks I will be a bad alpha, even my own dad, if he had another option, he wouldn't have picked me"Ryder held his shoulders and turned him to face him."What are we?" he asked."Soul brothers" Talon replied."and I believe you will be the best alpha that the pack has ever had. I believe in you""Thank you" Talon hugged him."You are welcome" Ryder replied.Talon nuzzled his neck, "Goddess you always smell so good" he muttered.Ryder
Fire Moon Pack....Tanner stood with the other trainee Alphas, he checked the time, Rovak still wasn't here. Where was he? Wasn't he coming?Alpha Jonathan stood in front of the young men, he counted them, "who is missing?" he asked. The young men looked at each other, they all kept quiet."I asked a question, who is missing?" Alpha Jonathan asked again."Rovak Perez sir" Tanner replied. At that moment, Rovak rushes in. "I am sorry I am late" he apologized."Rovak Perez, why are you late?" Alpha Jonathan asked."Traffic sir"Alpha Jonathan shook his head, "Your father was so disciplined, I thought you would be more like him, I was wrong""I am sorry sir" Rovak apologized again.Alpha Jonathan looked away dismissing Rovak.Rovak went to stand by Tanner, Tanner gave him a small nod, Rovak nodded back.Alpha Jonathan cleared his throat, they focused their attention on him."Now welcome to the training camp, I believe your fathers must have already given you some basic training, this is j

Tanner sat nervously opposite his parents as they had dinner. But he couldn't even hear a word they were saying. All that ran through his mind was what had happened earlier in the shower. Usually Rovak looked unapproachable but back then in the shower, his face had looked so entrancing. Oh godde
