Chapter 1
Aria Blake ~•~ “He’s not coming back… should I just refrigerate the food for you?” The maid’s voice dragged me out of my thoughts. It was two days after my husband and I’s wedding anniversary. We had been married for three years. Initially, things were going great between us, but all of a sudden, he switched. I’d been trying to talk to him, so we could fix things but he had been so adamant and uninterested. For our anniversary, he didn’t do anything, and I didn’t acknowledge it either. I gave him a few days, hoping he would apologize for ignoring it or do something special for us. But there was nothing. So I decided to spend the entire day cooking and set up a romantic dinner date for us at home. It was almost midnight and he hadn’t returned to the house. That was really weird because even if things had been rocky between us, Julian had never spent the night outside the house without telling me first. “Don’t worry,” I finally replied to the maid. “Maybe he’s having a late night at work. I’m sure he’ll come back soon.” She gave me a pitiful stare. “Are you sure?” That was just an excuse. I wasn’t sure. Julian would never stay out so late just because of work. He was the CEO of the company, and he wouldn’t stress himself like that. I nodded my head. “Yes… you can go to bed,” I answered, forcing my voice to stay steady. Soon enough, the maid retired to her room. I remained in the living room for a few more minutes before I finally let out a defeated sigh. Julian wasn’t coming home. As I cleared the table, I couldn’t help but wonder where he was. I had tried calling his phone several times, but it went straight to voicemail. I could only hope that he was okay. By the time I got back to my room, my phone started buzzing. I reached out for it quickly, hoping it was Julian who was calling me. But I let out a disappointed scoff when I saw my best friend’s name flashing across the screen. It wasn’t like I wasn’t happy to talk to her, but I just wanted it to be my husband. Letting out a deep exhale, I answered the phone. “Harper, hey…” My voice was almost inaudible. “Aria, are you okay?” Harper asked, her voice filled with concern. I swallowed the lump that had formed in my throat. “No,” I admitted, my voice tight. “I’m not okay… he didn’t come back home today.” Harper gasped. “What? And you spent the entire day cooking for him.” My chest tightened as she reminded me of my miseries. “Yes, I did,” I replied, running a hand through my hair. “I’m so sorry, Aria,” Harper said sympathetically. “Have you tried calling him? What did he say?” I shrugged my shoulders, exhausted. “I tried calling him but I couldn’t reach him. I have no idea where he is,” I continued solemnly. “I even reached out to his best friend, but he wouldn’t tell me anything.” Harper let out a sharp exhale. “So what are you going to do?” I rolled my eyes. “What am I supposed to do, Harper?” I asked quietly. “I’m tired of fighting for him when he clearly doesn’t want me anymore.” There was a beat of silence. “I’m sorry about what you’re going through right now, but maybe it’s just a phase…” Harper tried to comfort me but it wasn’t working. “Both of you are perfect for each other, and I’m sure that things will get back to normal soon.” I blinked back the tears that were threatening to fall. “You don’t know that.” “Yeah, I don’t, but I need you to be optimistic.” I rubbed my face tiredly. “I’ve been optimistic for a while now but nothing has changed.” “Just wait for him to return and have a conversation with him. If something is going on, he should tell you.” Harper and I talked for a while before the call finally ended. I couldn’t sleep, so I decided to scroll through my phone. While viewing posts, I came across one that involved my husband. He was seen at a jewelry shop, picking out an expensive piece. I looked closely to make sure it was him. My heart warmed when I saw that the jewelry was a silver necklace. That was my preferred choice of jewelry. So it was for me. For a moment, I forgot about all my sadness and kept smiling as I read the comments. People were praising him and saying how lucky I was to bag a man who would spoil me with expensive gifts. I’d been overthinking all this while. The jewelry was probably my late anniversary gift. It was a good thing I also got him some presents. Maybe my marriage wasn’t crumbling after all. I kept reading all the nice comments, but there were also some mean comments. After being married to a popular billionaire for three years, I had already learnt how to ignore the hate comments. I didn’t let them bother me anymore. A few moments later, I decided to try calling Julian one more time. Maybe he was actually working late. But just as I was about to scroll away, something caught my attention. As I stared at it, my smile faded slowly. The headlines made my stomach churn. The photo that was attached made my breath seize. My husband. Julian. He was spotted with his ex-girlfriend. And they were smiling at each other while he held her tightly like his life depended on it. The jewelry wasn’t for me. My marriage was actually crumbling. Was he acting weird all that time because of her?Chapter 102Aria Blake ~•~ Harper left because I told her that I needed time to process everything. But in reality, I just needed to ask for other people’s opinions. Since I didn’t have anything to do, I went over to my mom’s house. Claire would still be around for a few days before leaving for work. When she saw me, she was surprised. “You didn’t say you were coming,” she muttered. “How did the kids do on their first day of school?” I sank onto the couch and smiled. “I was worried at first because they were gloomy throughout the ride, but when they saw the teacher, they started smiling.”Claire leaned forward. “Why?” I shrugged. “I don’t really know. But I think it’s because she was polite, so they felt safe.” “I’m glad they’re happy and safe,” Claire said with a relieved breath. “So what are you doing here?” I tilted my head. “Can’t I come to my mom’s house whenever I want?” I asked defensively. Claire dragged a hand down her face. “You can, but I just can’t help but wonde
Chapter 101Aria Blake ~•~ Julian dropped me back at the house. When I went into my bedroom and changed into something more comfortable, I reached for my phone and dialed Samuel’s number. He answered immediately. “I’ve been trying to reach you, Aria. And I know you’ve been ignoring me on purpose,” he complained. “What were you doing?” I pressed a hand to my forehead. “Samuel, please…” “Do you know if it was an emergency?” “You would have sent a text if it were an emergency,” I replied softly. “So why were you calling?” He let out a deep exhale. “So you saw the calls and ignored me?” The disappointment in his voice was palpable. “I didn’t ignore you. I was busy with something,” I answered. “Busy with what?” “It was their first day of school, so I was occupied.” “Isla and Owen?” I nodded even though he couldn’t see me. “Yes.” “Wow,” Samuel muttered. “And you didn’t tell me about it. You didn’t even call me so I could talk to them.” I closed my eyes briefly. There was not
Chapter 100Aria Blake ~•~ It was Isla and Owen’s first day in their new school. I wasn’t sure how I felt. I was excited that they were finally starting school, but I was worried because they didn’t look too thrilled about it. We were in the living room, waiting for Julian to arrive. He said he wanted all of us to go together. He had missed out on so many parts of their lives and wanted to make new memories with them. I didn’t argue with him. “Can you guys smile or something?” I asked the kids who were still wearing gloomy faces. “Today is going to be great and exciting. You’ll meet new people.” They didn’t respond. I let out a deep sigh. “Even if you don’t make any friends, you have each other, and that’s all that matters,” I added, trying to cheer them up. “Okay, mommy,” Owen finally replied. If I could remember correctly, he was excited about his new school. I wondered what changed. Maybe Isla’s energy rubbed off on him. A few minutes later, Julian arrived at the house. I
Chapter 99Aria Blake ~•~ Julian eventually left. I was grateful he did because he was already causing a scene in the restaurant. I felt embarrassed as we still waited for our food. Everyone stole glances at us at intervals. When it was finally time to leave the restaurant, I was so relieved. Samuel drove us back to the house. But he refused to go inside the house because it was Julian who gave me the house. After the kids went inside, I stayed in the car with him for a while. “I don’t trust that guy,” he said, clearing his throat. “Julian is obsessed with you,” he added. “Julian isn’t obsessed with me,” I countered. “He just feels threatened because of the kids. He's scared they won’t love him as much as they love you.” Samuel was quiet for a beat. “Are you sure that his outburst was about the kids?” he asked quietly. “He also asked me to take my hands off you, and I think he still likes you.” “I can’t deny the fact that he likes me. But that’s all it’s going to be… one-
Chapter 98Julian Cross ~•~ The words blurred as I read the text message. My private investigator texted to say that Samuel was in New York and had been there for a few days. I already felt relieved because he didn’t show up the other time when Aria lied to me that he was moving to New York. But now, he was here. Did he finally move here, or did he come because of the funeral? That wasn’t where it ended. The investigator also told me he went to the apartment I’d gotten for Aria, and they all drove out to a restaurant. My blood was boiling intensely with rage. Without thinking, I picked up my keys and went to the car. I knew I was about to make a mistake, but I didn’t care. I wasn’t comfortable with the fact that he took my kids out without informing me. I wanted to pick them up. Besides, I was the one who got custody of them. In about fifteen minutes, I arrived at the restaurant. A part of me screamed that I should go back home, but the jealous and angry part made me step o
Chapter 97Aria Blake ~•~ “I want to see the kids before I leave,” Samuel whispered in my ear as he pulled me closer. “I’ve missed them so much.” The kids were with Julian. “Okay… I’ll make sure you spend some time with them before you go back,” I replied. “They miss you too. They keep asking about you.” Samuel hummed. “Okay, baby.” My family didn’t disturb us. We spent the night together. But the next morning, Samuel had to move to a hotel. I went over to Julian’s house to pick up the kids. Julian brought them to the car. “Hey, are you good?” he asked after I ushered the kids to the back seat. “You didn’t want me to come over yesterday.” I let out a deep exhale. “We didn’t want anyone at the house. It was already sad and we didn’t want more condolences to make us miserable.” Julian stroked his beard. “Oh, I understand,” he muttered. “But are you good?” I shrugged. “I don’t know. But I’ll be fine.” I didn’t believe those words but I just said them because I didn’t want a l
Chapter 77Aria Blake ~•~ “Are you still at his house?” That was the first thing Samuel asked me when he answered the phone. Not how is your health? Not how the kids are doing?I let it slide. He was still upset because I left Texas without telling him, and probably still mad that I went to Jul
Chapter 73Aria Blake~•~ When Julian came to Texas, he told me that he couldn’t move on with another woman because of how bad he was stuck on me. He said that he always felt we would find our way back to each other. He made me feel bad for moving on with Samuel even though he was the one who rui
Chapter 3Aria Blake ~•~ “Divorce papers… they’re divorce papers,” Julian replied as he took off his tie. “This isn’t working anymore and it’s best that we go our separate ways.” My eyelids twitched. “This isn’t working anymore?” I repeated with a hint of amusement and confusion in my voice. “Is
Chapter 2Aria Blake ~•~ Tears rolled down my face as I scrolled away and dialed his number. This time it didn’t go to voicemail, the phone was ringing. But Julian was ignoring me intentionally. My chest was tight. After everything we had been through, I couldn’t believe that he would do somet
